Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - The Grave Is Yours

THE  GRAVE  IS  YOURS

Tras la aventura solitaria de Chris Boltendhal en su "Steelhammer", algo que sinceramente me ha parecido que no ha aportado demasiado a su carrera, la banda "Grave Digger" regresa al estudio para reclamar de nuevo su territorio, de enorgullecerse de su larguísima carrera, de sus inicios clásicos que han sido su guía compositiva en todas estas décadas de discos, (ya 21 en formato LP), conformando una carrera consistente, y cada vez más fundamental para la propia histpria del heavy metal. En este año 2024 comenzamos con dos temas nuevos que forman parte de un single, con el que estrenan guitarrista Tobias Kersting, tras la salida de Alex Ritt guitarrista del grupo los últimos tres lustros. El caso es que la banda se encuentra en plena forma y así nos lo demuestran a través de esta dupla de temas, el primero de ellos "The grave is yours" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Jorn - Ode To The Black Nightshade

ODE  TO  THE  BLACK  NIGHTSHADE

Mucho tiempo ha pasado ya desde que el noruego Jorn Lande comenzase su andadura en solitario bajo su propio nombre, tras haber comenzado en otros proyectos que le dieron el impulso necesario para mostrar al mundo su carismática voz, concretamente desde 2000 Jorn como banda está en activo, y han editado en este tiempo, y a fecha de esta reseña un total de 15 LP's de estudio. Canciones para una vida - Krokus - Highway Song

HIGHWAY  SONG

Krokus es otra de esas bandas referente que ha sido siempre injustamente relegada a un segundo plano, y han sido por ejemplo referente en longevidad del grupo, que se formó en 1975 y que hasta 2021 mantuvieron su carrera ininterrumpidamente, en 2021 se deciden separar para regresar al año siguiente y seguir en activo en la actualidad, aún sin noticias de material nuevo. Referentes también en calidad y cantidad de LP's, 18 albumes de estudio, siempre fieles a ese hard 'n heavy clásico. Y referentes una vez más en cuanto a bandas fuera de Inglaterra o Estados Unidos que comenzaron al mismo tiempo que el heavy metal en sí, por lo tanto contribuyentes directos del crecimiento de nuestro sonido. WAR

Vamos de nuevo a la escena sueca, que por lo general tantas alegrías nos da a los amantes de la calidad, hoy para recuperar otra canción de la banda Veonity, un grupo en clave de power metal de corte europeo lleno de melodía que va entrando ya en un momento de su carrera maduro, ya que llevan ya más de una década de actividad con cinco frutos compositivos en forma de LP, van poco a poco dando forma a una carrera que antes o después debería alcanzar cotas más elevadas de reconocimiento atendiendo a su buen hacer. Canciones para una vida - Deep Purple - Smoke On The Water

SMOKE  ON  THE  WATER

Vamos con uno de los riffs por antonomasia en el heavy metal en general, el que parieron los británicos Deep Purple para su ya sexta obra de estudio en 1972 en su disco "Machine head", se trata por supuesto de "Smoke on the water" que todo aquel que haya tenido una guitarra en sus manos alguna vez habra tratado de emular, y además con bastante éxito, es un riff tan reconocible y efectivo como simple, pero no por ello menos importante. Deep Purple es otra de esas bandas que podría luchar por el título de primera banda en practicar heavy metal, ellos pusieron una gran piedra más que un granito de arena, en lo compositivo y en lo influyente para la creación del heavy metal globalmente, quizá más desde la vertiente del hard 'n heavy. Canciones para una vida - Skalmold - Verdandi

 

VERDANDI

De vuelta en el pasado 2023, los islandeses Skalmold editaron su sexto LP de estudio tras cinco años de silencio. Verdaderamente un lustro se antoja demasiado tiempo de silencio, sobre todo para una banda del calibre de Skalmold, pero según el grupo ya en 2019 se habían propuesto levantar el pie, lo que no contaban es con la pandemia que por una parte alargo su periodo de inactividad y por otra les ayudó a cargarse de energía para lo que estaba por venir, el disco "Ydalir" parece haber salido favorecido de una composición meditada y relajada pues muestra una energía acorde a lo esperable y mejor aún. Buen ejemplo de lo que podemos encontrar en esta obra es por ejemplo el tema "Verdandi" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Black Sabbath - Iron Man

IRON  MAN

Para mucha gente, como idea ya preconcebida, en el argumentario general del metalhead de "a pie", Black Sabbath fue prácticamente inventora del heavy metal, se da por hecho que su nombre va unido al inicio de ese sonido, pero a mi me parece que focalizar tanto, a pesar de que pueda llevar una parte de la razón, se antoja un tanto injusto o irreal respecto al  concepto de evolución progresiva del sonido procedente de otros y evolucionado por muchos, para llegar a lo que es hoy en día, y de entre esos ingredientes sin duda alguna el de Black Sabbath no es solo importante sino innegable además. En 1970 editaban su segundo LP de estudio, "Paranoid", donde se podía mascar ya mucho sonido afín al heavy metal, temas como "Iron Man", del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube, Balck Sabbath, cimientos clásicos.

Canciones para una vida - 8 Point Rose - Endless Rage

 

 ENDLESS  RAGE

8 Point Rose es una banda sueca de power metal que forma parte de ese grupo de bandas que a pesar de su buen hacer, su calidad, su demostración de potencial han editado un único LP de estudio y han cesado  en sus pretensiones demasiado pronto. Formados en 2002 aunque bajo el nombre de "Evermoore", en 2009 cambian su nombre a 8 Point Rose para editar su único disco de estudio "Primigenia" al año siguiente (2010) y separarse al poco. De nuevo una auténtica lástima ya que su sonido podría haberles llevado muy lejos. Canciones para una vida - Scorpions - Speedy's Coming

SPEEDY'S  COMING

Otra banda legendaria, una de las que más discos ha vendido a lo largo de su historia, una de las pioneras dentro del heavy metal y el hard rock, con un sello personal reconocible desde sus inicios, capaces de seguir sacando LP's alucinantes casi seis décadas después de su formación allá por 1964, son los alemanes Scorpions. Echando un vistazo a sus  comienzos, hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas incluidos en su segundo LP de estudio, "Fly to the rainbow" de 1974, continuador de su debut de 1972, y poniendo claramente sus credenciales a banda importante en un futuro próximo desde tan temprano. Canciones para una vida - Royal Jester - Lightning Strikes

LIGHTNING  STRIKES

Lo de los suecos Royal Jester es un ejemplo casi perfecto, prototípico de los que pasa a veces con las bandas, proyectos que surgen al reunirse gente procedente de otras bandas, editar algún material de estudio casi a cuentagotas de innegable calidad, que solo te deja la posibilidad de hacerte a ti mismo una pregunta, ¿Pero por que estos tíos no han llegado más alto?. Es así, calidad en cada recoveco de la obra, solo dos LP's editados y además con ocho años de diferencia entre uno y otro, (2010 y 2018), en clave de europower, con el sello sueco que suele ser en casi todos los casos sinónimo y garantía de calidad, aquí de sobra cumplida. Una pena la falta de continuidad, hoy traigo al blog su segundo LP para mostrar algo de su calidad en forma del tema "Lightning Strikes" de su disco "Breaking the chains", una canción que da la sensación de haberseles quedado demasiado corta, deberían haberla duplicado en longitud por lo enganchona que es, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Rainbow - Run With The Wolf

RUN  WITH  THE  WOLF

Vamos con los primeros pasos musicales de una de esas bandas influyentes unidas a nombres míticos que tanto ayudaron a la evolución y engrandecimiento de nuestro sonido, hablamos de Rainbow. Evidentemente sobran las presentaciones, su nombre y su música hablan suficientemente de ellos, de su importancia, y si echamos la vista atrás, a sus inicios a mitad de los 70, entendemos como desde el principio de su carrera pusieron el listón bien alto, atrayendo las miradas hacia lo que hacían en ese camino a equidistante entre el hard rock y el heavy metal. Su segundo LP, "Rising" de 1976, les hacía dueños de un sonido atractivo, imitable, con solo seis temas en poco más de media hora pero entre los que están algunos clásicos metálicos muy versionados. Canciones para una vida - Halén - There's No Use

THERE'S  NO  USE

La banda sueca Halén, o lo que es lo mismo el proyecto del músico multi instrumentista y cantante Ola Halén, comenzó su andadura en 2015 y desde entonces ha editado dos LP's de estudio. Tras su paso y pertenencia a bandas como Insania o Shadow Past, Halén decide probar suerte en solitario, literalmente, pues en sus obras se encarga de todo él mismo, voz incluida. Su sonido es un power metal innegablemente sueco, euro power por lo tanto, limpio en la producción, y a pesar de ser auto producido no se echa en falta la mano de una discográfica detrás. Su primera obra "Nackscott" la edita en 2016 y la segunda, "Idleness" en 2020, y es de este segundo trabajo del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, concretamente "There's no use", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Stormage - Put The Hammer Down

PUT  THE  HAMMER  DOWN

Los alemanes "Stormage" practican un contundente heavy metal, con una vertiente sonora que quiere traer ese sabor más propio del otro lado del charco que de lo que suelen acostumbrar las bandas europeas. Formados en 2003 se trata de otra de esas bandas que no se caracterizan precisamente por editar mucho material ya que "Ashes of doom" publicado en mayo del pasado 2023 supone tan solo su cuarto LP de estudio, sin embargo encontramos un sonido interesante como mínimo para meter la nariz en su corta discografía. Canciones para una vida - Judas Priest - Rocka Rolla

ROCKA  ROLLA

Hablemos de nuevo de los principios, y de entre todas las bandas eternas, que las hay, Judas Priest es desde luego una de las indiscutibles candidatas a haber podido ser la primera en facturar el sonido heavy metal como tal. Hace poco leí una entrevista en la que a Halford se le hacía esa pregunta, su opinión de quien fue la primera banda en practicar un sonido heavy como tal, que si Purple, que si Sabbath, y desde luego él, barriendo para casa atribuyó a los suyos tal mérito. Como siempre digo es dificil buscar ese momento concreto en ese lugar específico, pero desde luego buscarlo en la discografía de Judas Priest podría ser una buena idea. Formados en 1970, para 1974 editaban su disco debut, "Rocka Rolla", con cierta influencia o tendencia del hard rock de la época, el heavy aún estaba en pleno proceso de nacimiento y este disco es un buen ejemplo de ello. Otros que llevaban ya un buen puñado de años sin dar señales de vida compositiva eran los italianos No man eyes, ya que desde 2016 no sacaban disco nuevo, y este recién pasado 2023 han roto ese record negativo. Estamos ante una banda con una cierta trayectoria a sus espaldas, formados en 2011 han editado solo otros dos LP's antes de hacerlo con este tercero en su historia personal. La obra "Harness the sun" ha sido editada digitalmente y de forma independiente, y en ella encontraremos un heavy metal clásico en algunos aspectos, con cierta intención power con cierto aire progresivo, dejando un buen sabor de boca. Dejo hoy en el blog el inicio de la obra, la intro junto con el primer tema "Craving tomorrow", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
