POSSESSION  OF  POWER  &  ANCIENT  PROPHECY

A finales de los 90 y principios de los 2000, en ese momento tan bueno para la propuesta épico fantástica euro power metalera, se estilaba mucho la utilización de elementos digamos ornamentales para complementar lo que era la música en sí, de esta manera las narraciones eran parte habitual de muchas bandas que en ocasiones terminaban incluso por abusar de ellas, haciendo de la virtud de su uso concreto algo menos bueno que terminaba espantando a muchos de la escucha de obras completas por tal motivo. Es cierto que ese toque digamos extra, podía dar una dimensión más profunda a obras conceptuales o no, pero que requerían de un contexto que explicase su hilo conductor, pero en ocasiones daban ganas de saltarlas para llegar al meollo de la cuestión. Hoy he querido ilustrar lo dicho a través de uno de los temas de la primera de las obras en formato LP de los suecos Morifade, que tan bien se desempeñaron en la citada época de finales de los 90 e inicios de los 2000, dejando esta intro de la obra añadiendole el tema final de la misma pero sin la "chachara" del inicio, quizá en una de esas ocasiones en que este gran tema, "Ancient Prophecy" tema puede perder efectividad por tal cuetión, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Repasando los frutos del pasado 2022 hoy me he vuelto a reencontrar con esta, su segunda obra, de los griegos "Steel Arctus", perteneciente como digo a esa escena actualmente tan envidiable como es la griega, en plena forma, cosechando el trabajo bien hecho durante muchos años atrás, y que practican, (estos Steel Arctus), ese sonido también de sello característicamente griego, con ese patrón de epicidad entendida como un tanto "True metalera", que se apoya en temáticas historico fantásticas, espadas y batallas, coros y demás. Un disco este segundo, "Master of war" del que ya he hablado anteriormente en el blog y del que hoy dejo otro de sus temas, en concreto "Black Mountains" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Jag Panzer - Prey

 

PREY

Jag Panzer, dueños de una extensa y casi ininterrumpida carrera desde inicios de los 80 salvo por ese parón de cinco años en la década de los 90, han mantenido bastante bien su esencia, su sello personal a lo largo de su carrera, y de sus doce LP' s de estudio, el último de ellos de este 2023, "The Hallowed". Evidentemente aquí su origen les delata, su heavy metal, muchas veces oscuro, suena muy americano, pero yankee del de la vieja escuela, (de la que realmente forman parte), y sin duda alguna han sido influencia para muchos. Canciones para una vida - Palantir - Engage & Distant Place

 

ENGAGE  &  DISTANT  PLACE

Los suecos Palantir dan muestra de actividad en este 2023 a través de su nuevo EP, "Nightmare Opus" compuesto por siete canciones de apenas media hora de duración conjunta. Estamos una vez más ante una confirmación de que el grupo va un poco por libre en lo que se refiere a las etiquetas, o a las corrientes, si que se queda en el oido un regusto power de corte europeo casi como hilo conductor de la obra, pero en ocasiones resulta más dificil de encontrar ese nexo, aunque en temas productivos se nota esa tendencia sueca a un sonido pulcro. Así pues la banda demuestra que la intención es la de ir editando material, acorde a los tiempos que corren, aunque no sea en un formato LP estandard, la cuestión en este momento para muchos grupos parece ser menos cantidad más veces, para no diluirse entre la gran marea de bandas que llegan a la escena internacional. Canciones para una vida - Sorcerer - Morning Star

 

MORNING  STAR

Curioso el camino de este grupo, que comenzase sus primeros pasos de actividad hace más de tres décadas, (1988), pero aquel primer intento se quedo solo en un par de demos hasta 1992, donde parte del grupo se fue incorporando a otros proyectos dejando a Sorcerer solo la salida de la separación. En 2010 reactivan su actividad y es desde 2015 donde se plasma en nuevo material de estudio, hasta la fecha de esta reseña son cuatro los LP's que hablan de una banda en franco crecimiento a medida que se asientan en su concepto heavy metalico de corte épico. Es un grupo sueco que no destaca exactamente por practicar el sonido más esperable de esa escuela, son algo más oscuros, sin caer en la vertiente atmosférica, pero como decía más arriba en crecimiento y asentamiento compositivo. Este 2023 ha sido testigo de su cuarto LP, ·Reign of the reaper" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog su tema "Morning star" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

OUR  TIME  HAS  COME

La verdad es que esta banda desde el comienzo de su carrera parecía condenada a vivir en la sombra de sus abiertamente admirados Manowar, sobre todo tras su prometedor y bastante personal debut de 2000 "Keep it true". Después se enfocarían aún más hacia ese concepto true metalero manowarístico, que pocas más opciones les dejaba que seguir la senda ya mencionada. Sin embargo, cuando echamos la vista atrás nos damos cuenta ya de que su carrera de ya más de veite años ha seguido adelante, y ha cosechado ya diez LP's de estudio, con un progresivo avance compositivo poco a poco más "powerizado", siempre fieles a ese espíritu "true", pero algo más "finos" componiendo. "Back to attack" es la décima obra de estudio de la banda que ha llegado en este 2023 tras cinco años de silencio compositivo, y hoy dejo en el blog uno de esos temas que ilustran lo dicho, "Our time has come" con un gancho más power, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - KK's Priest - Keeper Of The Grave

 

KEEPER  OF  THE  GRAVES

Lo que comenzó como una aventura en solitario del ex de Judas, KK Downing ve en este 2023 la continuidad al proyecto en su segundo LP "Sinner rides again", confirmando sonido, actitud y muchos de los integrantes del debut, aunque el batería Les Binks que compartiese banda con Downing en Judas y formase parte de KK's Priest en el disco de presentación en sociedad, deja el proyecto banda para esta segunda entrega se supone que por motivos de salud. El sonido es predecible solo con los antecedentes, desde luego es una onda Judas, quizá un tanto más crudo, quizá también a consecuencia de la forma de cantar de Tim Ripper Owens, pero sin duda igualmente hará las delicias de los amantes de ese sonido clasico. Canciones para una vida - Holland - Gotta Run

 

GOTTA  RUN

De nuevo nos adentramos en la década de los ochenta dentro del sonido a medio camino del heavy metal y el hard rock para acercarnos al sonido de los estadounidenses Holland, quienes dejaron solo unas pinceladas de lo que podría haber sido a través de su único LP de estudio "Little monsters" de 1985. Se supone que han vuelto a la actividad desde 2021, sin embargo no tengo información de que hayan editado nada nuevo. Como digo hard n' heavy, con una cierta capacidad de crear temas muy audibles o vendibles como es el caso del tema que dejo hoy en el blog, "Gotta Run" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

     VALIANT

Evidenciando su asentamiento tras su debut de 2021, los argentintos Percival vuelven a la carga con "The seventh seal" en la misma onda heavy metal de corte épico, y de momento de forma independiente, desarrollando su sonido de una forma homogénea, dejandonos un disco bastante completo, sin destacar algunos temas sobre otros, su fuerza parece estar en el conjunto de las obras. Canciones para una vida - Mystic Prophecy - Metal Attack

 

METAL  ATTACK

Doce LP's de estudio para una carrera que ocupa desde justo el comienzo de este siglo es la propuesta de esta banda germana de power metal que en cierto modo ha ido cambiando su concepto compositivo, siempre dentro del power metal pero enfocandolo al comienzo más desde una perspectiva amercana para porgresivamente ir europeizandolo. En el apartado de los integrantes grandes nombres han pasado por sus filas pero en la actualidad tan solo el vocalista Roberto Liapakis permanece en activo desde el inicio de la banda, ejerciendo también como motor impulsor y nexo común entre todos los momentos de actividad del grupo. El ültimo de sus LP's "Hellriot" se ha editado en este 2023 y de el dejo hoy en el blog otro de sus temas, concretamente "Metal Attack" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - DArtagnan - Drei Schwanze Reiter

 

DREI  SCHWANZE  REITER

"Felsenfest" es el quinto album de estudio de la banda germana "DArtagnan", un grupo que poco a poco va dando pasos adelante en su carrera, en la buena dirección y que se mueven en ese terreno tan germano del folk metal de toque medieval y cantado en alemán, con ese cuidado aspecto incluso en sus indumentarias en lo que es ya una franquicia sonora en si misma. La carrera del grupo evidencia su productividad con cinco LP's desde 2015 en que se formaron, con dos miembros provenientes de "Feuerschwanz", lo que explica también esa afinidad sonora entre ambas bandas. POWER  OF  THE  TRIFORCE

Dragonforce va mostrando detalles del que será su noveno LP de estudio en los veite ya años de carrera de la banda, sin duda es otro de esos grupos que paso a paso ha ido creciendo y estos con una buena acogida entre el gran público, siempre es un buen barómetro de esa aceptación el número de visualizaciones de una canción nueva de las bandas, y en este caso, con este adelanto, "Power of the triforce" no hay lugar a dudas. Se supone que la nueva obra traerá algunas novedades compositivas pero manteniendose fieles a las raices. El disco, "Warp speed warriors" verá la luz a mediados de marzo del ya próximo 2024, y como digo el segundo adelanto de la obra lleva por título "Power of the triforce", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

FIRELAND

El joven guitarrista italiano Valentino Francavilla continua su carrera en solitario bajo su nombre con un segundo LP "Midnight Dreams" que ha visto la luz de forma oficial el día 17 de este mes de octubre. De momento este músico multiinstrumentista, que además pone la voz a sus discos, va dando los pasos en la buena dirección para llegar a alcanzar mayores recompensas, en lo que a reconocimiento por parte del gran público se refiere, porque ya desde el debut ha demostrado ese sello personal de calidad y mezcla de elementos más que interesante. Hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube de uno de los temas de este segundo album, concretamente "Fireland".

Canciones para una vida - Winterstorm - Final Journey

 

FINAL  JOURNEY

Otra banda que poco a poco va cumpliendo años en activo, estos ya 15 años en los que han editado 5 LP's de estudio, lo que les da ya cierta solidez, con un camino que ha ido evolucionando de ese concepto casi épico folk de los inicios hacia un power más standard, pero siempre cuidando estos alemanes el tema de la producción. Winterstorm edita en este 2023 su quinto LP "Everfrost" tras un largo silencio desde su anterior disco de 2016, "Cube of infinity", lo que me hacía temer por su continuidad, pero parecen en plena forma, esperemos que sigan creciendo y nos den más muestras de su calidad. Hoy dejo otro de sus últimos temas, en concreto "Final Journey" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
