Canciones para una vida - Atorc - Shieldwall

 

SHIELDWALL 

Volvamos a la escena británica, a los terrenos folk metálicos, con ese componente épico para enmarcar el sonido de "Atorc", un grupo que por el momento no ha tenido mucha repercusión pero que lleva ya una década en activo y que ha editado, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, un total de dos LP's y un EP. En ocasiones introducen en sus canciones elementos tradicionales y por lo general se nota en la atmósfera de sus discos. En 2019 editaron su último trabajo de estudio, "Under the raven banner" de manera independiente, y del citado disco quiero dejar hoy en el blog su tema "Shieldwall" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Fifth Angel - Resist The Tyrant

 

RESIST  THE  TYRANT

Los estadounidenses Fifth Angel, siempre gozaron de un cierto estatus de banda de culto, fueron uno de esos grupos que lanzaron en los ochenta un par de LP's que dejaron un enorme sabor de boca en los seguidores y después, tres décadas de silencio compositivo, siempre con esa sensación de habernos quedado sin una gran banda sin un motivo aparente, y con un potencial tan enorme que resultaba casi trágico. Finalmente la banda comienza a hacer sus escarceos para reunirse allá por 2010, todos menos el vocalista original, y desde 2017 se reactivan definitivamente para dejarnos desde entonces dos nuevos albumes, que no hacen sino demostrar lo dicho, de haber seguido en activo nos habrían dejado un gran carrera que quien sabe hasta donde les hubiera podido llevar. Canciones para una vida - Metallica - Through The Never

 

THROUGH  THE  NEVER

Si hay una banda  que ofrezca la posibilidad de toda crítica, para bien o para mal, de seguidores fieles o incluso detractores, es Metallica, primero por el hecho de ser de esas bandas que han transcendido a las fornteras metalicas en si, siendo patrimonio incluso de las niñitas que se compran sus camisetas en los Primark del mundo sin saber nada más allá, segundo por ser de esas bandas que han tenido un descarado cambio de estilo, actitud, siempre gracias a su potencial de venta, al poderio de su sello "Metallica" como iman de venta, pero si nos ceñimos a lo estrictamente musical, Metallica tiene que ser importante aunque sea solo por un puñado de discos, que sobre todo en sus inicios formaron parte del motor impulsor del sonido heavy, en este caso el thrash. Hablar además de un disco como "Metallica" de 1991, es hacerlo de uno de sus puntos de inflexión, también de la mano de una década como la de los 90 que tan en peligro puso a los conceptos ochenteros clásicos. Sin duda como digo este disco es un punto de inflexión en la banda, que sobre todo con sus dos baladas abrio de par en par su camino hacia la riqueza a nivel planetario, a pesar de que sea también uno de los últimos discos donde hay  una verdadera conexion con su pasado más glorioso, aunténtico, que es lo que les empezó a dar la posibilidad de destacar. HIGHWAY  TO  PARADISE

Vamos hoy con una vertinte musical más melodica, más cercana al hard melódico, pero de alto nivel, de esas bandas que se forman con colaboración de grandes músicos pertenecientes a bandas punteras de la escena sueca, un proyecto llamado "Gathering of kings", una buena "Reunión de reyes" que ya ha dejado tres LP's de estudio en los últimos años, el segundo de ellos de 2020 al que titularon "Discovery" y del que hoy dejo en el blog otra de sus canciones, "Highway to paradise" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

DESCENSION

Claramente la banda sueca Narnia ha vuelto a lograrlo, sigue en ascenso , evolucionando su sonido pero manteniendo toda la esencia de más de dos décadas. Este nuevo album de 2023, el noveno de su carrera, "Ghost Town" destaca por la melodía, aderezada como siempre con rasgos power, rasgos progresivos, y un cierto aire del hard ' n heavy moderno de la escuela sueca, el resultado, como siempre un impecable ejercicio melódico de producción impoluta, que promete de nuevo un futuro cercano bastante brillante. Canciones para una vida - Elvenking - The Winter Wake

 

THE  WINTER  WAKE

Siempre tiendo a buscar el primer material de esta banda italiana, "Elvenking" a la hora de enfrentarme a su discografía, y es que, sobre todo en el caso de su debut, su propuesta resultaba especialmente atractiva, quiza novedosa en algún aspecto y después, aunque reconozca su valía la verdad es que se ha transformado en una banda algo monótona para mi gusto. Hoy, por lo tanto, quiero retornar a su tercera obra de estudio, "The winter wake", donde aún parecía que seguían creciendo, que tenían un futuro más brillante, que podían llegar a la cima, cosa que sin desmerecer su quehacer, no se ha producido a ese nivel que prometían. Canciones para una vida - Seventh Wonder - Taint The Sky

 

TAINT  THE  SKY

"Seventh Wonder" es una banda sueca de esas que realizan un sonido a medio camino de varias cosas, pero para poder acotarlo deberíamos mencionar el Power metal y la vertiente progresiva del mismo. Formados a comienzos del presente siglo, la realidad es que la constancia no ha sido su rasgo más característico, han carecido seguramente de una mayor productividad de obras, han tenido demasiados periodos en que no editaron nada para llegar a solo 6 LP's en más de veinte años de carrera. Es cierto que la calidad parece ser un concepto al que han ido apuntando por encima de la cantidad, pues la escuela de la que proceden donde por lo general cuidar la producción es una constante se encarna bien en su sonido. Otro rasgo que favorece la calidad, o el saber lo que una banda quiere y lograrlo, suele venir de la mano de la estabilidad en la formación, algo que aquí se da de una manera notable, la mayoría continúan desde el inicio. Canciones para una vida - Equilibrium - Shelter

 

SHELTER

No cabe duda alguna de que en general, el sendero compositivo que había ido tomando la banda germana Equlibrium, era como mínimo cuestionado por muchos de sus seguidores, algo que se intensificaba obra tras obras en los últimos años respecto a los fans primigenios sobre todo, los que comenzasen a seguir al grupo allá por sus inicios encarnados en "Turis Fratyr" en 2005. Claramente las bandas están en su derecho a experimentar, a cambiar de rumbo compositivo, pero creo que dejar de mirar a las raices es siempre un error, para eso hay opciones mucho menos traumáticas, desde el punto de vista del fan, como los proyectos paralelos de parte de las bandas, o icluso de ellas al completo bajo otro nombre, y es que el problema de perder el norte compositivo es que en el camino se pierde la credibilidad y el apoyo fiel de quien y lo que te ayudó a crecer. La banda en 2021, decide separar su destino musical de una parte de su formación, de una en concreto muy visible como es siempre el puesto de vocalista, pero creo que la idea de cambiar algo en su inercia negativa puede tener algo que ver en esto. En estos días nos llega el primer material editado con su nuevo cantante, que no es sino un single de presentación, "Shelter" del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Accept - Walking In The Shadows

 

WALKING  IN  THE  SHADOWS

Hablaba hace pocos días de UDO, y de la importancia que Accept mostro al mundo siendo capaz de aunar fuerzas con un músico de ese calibre (Udo) y además continuar su carrera también sin él, con mejores y peores momentos claro, y con el resurgimiento posterior, actual, con el señor Tornillo a la voz. Pero hoy quiero retornar a la época dorada de la banda, la anterior a 1987 en que los caminos de Udo y Accept se separan por vez primera, en que comienza la carrera de aquel en solitario, y dejar clara esa idea de lo importante de la banda, (Accept) como uno de los motores impulsores, influyentes y formadores del heavy metal en general, y además saliendo de la escena germana, que en los años iniciales del sonido no era la más importante o influyente, poco era importante si no salia de las escenas Yankee o Británica, eran los princios de los ochenta. Queiero rescatar de nuevo uno de esos discos magníficos dentro de nuestro sonido, "Russian Roulette" de 1986, el séptimo del grupo, en un momento excelente de la banda y previo a la salida de Udo, su comienzo en solitario, y el comienzo del largo bache de Accept hasta que se reencontró décadas después. Del citado discazo, "Roussian roulette", destacable practicamente todo, obra completa de banda Top, hoy como escaparate de la misma, "Walking in the shadows", poco más que añadir.

Canciones para una vida - Virgin Steele - Go Down Fighting

 

GO  DOWN  FIGHTING

Una de las muchas cosas que pueden echarse de menos de la escena ochentera, es el concepto de componer discos de calidad, mucho material en poco tiempo, era común que las bandas editasen un LP por año sin que se notase aparentemente en la calidad final del producto, además las bandas no se cortaban en editar singles ni Ep's en el mismo año en que editaban un LP, y de esa manera uno siempre encontraba material que comprar sin esperar largos años entre obra y obra de sus heroes metálicos. En 1983, por ejemplo, los estadounidenses Virgin Steele editaban un LP, "Guardians of the flame", un single, "A cry in the night" con un tema no incluido en el citado LP, y el EP "Wait for the night", y además en 1982 habían editado su debut . Sin duda era otro concepto, y en ocasiones ese espíritu se echa de menos. Canciones para una vida - DSG - A Raven At Midnight

 

A  RAVEN  AT  MIDNIGHT

Vamos con un grupo de power con cierto regusto "Shred" gracias al guitarrista David Shankle, que a comienzos de los años 2000 decide dar forma a esta banda que después, con el paso de los años, no parece que haya tenido la consistencia suficiente, desde la perspectiva de la edición de musica, lo que siempre limita mucho la repercusión en la escena internacional de cualquier tipo de banda, no solo basta con tener calidad, además hay que ser consistente y sistemático a la hora de mostrarlo. Su debut se produce en 2003 con esta obra, "Ashes to ashes" de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de sus temas, concretamente "A raven at midnight" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - Sleepless

 

SLEEPLESS

Vamos con una de esas instituciones dentro del heavy metal, los alemanes Grave Digger, que llevan ya una buena colección de décadas en activo, (desde comienzos de los 80), e igualmente llevan una buena colección de LP's, (así como 21, que ya es decir). Está claro que entre tantas obras hay momentos mejores y peores, o quizá mejor dicho momentos de un nivel medio más elevado y otros menos inspirados, pues en general las obras de esta banda suelen mantener un nivel homogéneo y alto. En 2005 el grupo sacaba uno de esos discos menos celebrados que otros, (que no ni de lejos malos) y del que siempre se pueden rescatar momentos importantes. La obra "The last Supper", fue su undécima en formato LP, y de ella hoy quiero dejar en el blog su canción "Sleepless", 100% Grave Digge, incluida como bonus fuera de la edición regular  y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Chasar - Visions Of Time

 

VISIONS  OF  TIME

Sigamos con la enormemente fertil escena británica de los ochenta, sobre todo de las bandas que escogieron ese estilo de heavy metal por entonces novedoso y que se englobaron en el famoso movimiento de la NWOBHM. Hoy traigo al blog a otra banda de las que solo editaron una obra, "Chasar", con el mismo título en principio en 1983 en que la publican y que curiosamente en 1987, bajo el título de "Gypsy roller" volvieron a publicar exactamente con los mismos temas. El grupo fue originario de Escocia y desde 2009 se supone que han retornado a la actividad, aunque de momento sin nigún nuevo material editado, a fecha de esta reseña. En pleno e irrefrenable crecimiento la banda sueca "Eclipse" sigue a lo suyo, con esa aparente facilidad para componer temas con gancho que no hace sino incrementar la diversidad de fans que les siguen, es evidente que obra tras obra la banda sigue agrandando su historia, y en este 2023 veremos la publicación de su novena obra de estudio, "Megalomanium", de la que en estos días dejan su segundo adelanto, "Hearts Collide", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Serenity - Ritter Tod Und Teufel (Knightfall)

 

RITTER  TOD  UND  TEUFEL  (KNIGHTFALL)

Nueva muestra de vida de los austriacos Serenity, confirmación de que a pesar de la actividad grande de su cantante fuera de la banda el futuro parece asegurado en lo que a continuidad de la banda se refiere, afortunadamente ya que han demostrado a lo largo ya de estos veintitantos años que tienen un puesto entre los grandes del subgénero power sinfónico. Este tema que hoy adelantan "Ritter tod und teufel (knightfall)" pertenecerá al próximo album de estudio del que aún no han trascendido fecha o título, y que será el octavo de su discografía, por el momento dejo un enlace a youtube de este single de adelanto.
