NO  HAVEN  FOR  THE  RAVEN

Centrandonos de nuevo en uno de esos años clave, de esos años perfectos en lo que al heavy metal se refiere como fue 1985, traigo hoy al blog otra de esas bandas cuya calidad no se vio refrendada por las ventas, las críticas o el reconocimiento general en su época, otro de esos grupos a los que solo les quedó la aceptación de que la saturada escena de la época no daba ocasión a todos por igual, y, como digo, aceptando el grupo que si dandolo todo no eran capaces de asomar la cabeza decidirían separarse, por desgracia. Estos chicos, "Malice", pertenecían a la escuela estadounidense, que por esos años hacía su oposición a una de las escenas más importantes, si no la que más, de la escena metálica internacional y con esa seña de identidad tan reconocible en ese momento. Pues bien, Malice es uno de esos ejemplos de heavy metal de la old school, de esos que eran capaces de editar obras como su debut, "In the beginning", como digo de 1985, como aquel que no se esfuerza, de maneral tan natural como extraordinaria. Estamos ante una obra que a medida que ha pasado el tiempo ha visto revalorizado su poder compositivo, y es que si amas el heavy clásico este disco no debe faltar entre tus discos de cabecera. Como digo su carrera fue demasiado breve, de 1980 a 1989 con dos LP's y un EP en dicho periodo, para un intento de resurrección en 2006 que quedó en eso, un intento, con un tercer LP pero sin toda la fuerza, ni algunos de los miembros originales. Canciones para una vida - Burning Point - Blast In The Past

 

BLAST  IN  THE  PAST

La ya veterana banda finlandesa "Burning Point" está mostrando en estos días las primeras pinceladas del que será su octavo LP de estudio, "Arsonit of the soul" que verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo mes de octubre. Como es habitual en ellos su sonido se centra en esta ocasión también en un power de corte europeo en sintonía con lo que venían haciendo en los pasados LP's y en general a lo largo de toda su obra, sin embargo, para la ocasión ha habido una importante reestructuración en la formación desde 2019 en adelante cambiando de nuevo de vocalista femenina a masculino, o mejor dicho eliminando el factor vocalista femenino que recaía en Nitte Valo desde 2014 (Ex de Battle Beast), ya que Pete Ahonen, (motor de la banda y único miembro fundador que aún continúa, se ha encargado siempre también del apartado vocal que ahora compartirá con Luca Sturniolo. Como digo, el primero de los adelantos de la nueva obra se titula "Blast in the past" y de ella dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dartagnan - C'est La Vie

 

C'EST  LA  VIE

La inquietud de los grupos y músicos por buscar un nicho sonoro nuevo no tiene límites, y así, desde alemania llegan estos chicos que según su propia denominación hacen un "Rock mosquetero". En realidad esa denominación debería más bien aplicarse a la temática lírica de sus obras, puesto que en lo estrictamente musical, se les puede anglobar en ese sonido de las bandas alemanas que cantan en su lengua natal y dejan pinceladas folk aquí y allá con esa tendencia barroca, renacentista o medieval incluida. El caso es que Dartagnan llevan ya unos cuantos años en escena, (desde 2015) habiendo editado ya cuatro LP's de estudio, el último de ellos "Feuer & Flamme" del presente 2021 del que hoy dejo en el blog la canción "C'est la vie". Así pues, rock metal germano cantado en su lengua natal, de temática mosquetera que queda patente en su puesta en escena más que otra cosa.

Canciones para una vida - Suidakra - Resurgence

 

RESURGENCE

Mirando la historia de esta banda alemana nos damos cuenta que estamos ante la definición misma del concepto de constancia, ya que el periodo más largo que han dejado entre disco y disco no ha superado los tres años lo que justifica los quince LP's de estudio que componen su discografía. El decimo quinto de esos disco se edita este 2021, concretamente saldrá a la venta de forma oficial el día 25 de este mes de junio, de título "Wolfbite", y de él nos van llegando los primeros ecos en forma del single "Resurgence", con todos los ingredientes de la banda, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Frozen Crown - The Water Dancer

 

THE  WATER  DANCER

Los italianos "Frozen Crown" son una banda de reciente formación, (2017) que sin embargo a comenzado su carrera a todo trapo, editando este año 2021 su ya tercer LP de estudio, "Winterbane", y habiendose tenido que enfrentar en el pasado 2020 a la salida de gran parte de la banda que iniciase el proyecto, concretamente la guitarrista, el bajista y el batería que han sido sustituidos para afrontar lo que venga en adelante. Para el tercer mencionado disco el proceso de grabación ya habia sido completado cuando se marcharon los integrantes, veremos pues en adelante el calado de las bajas en su futuro cercano como banda. En lo referente a la tercera de las obras vemos que la carrera del grupo, además de rápida, es acertada mostrandose como una de las bandas que más aceptación está recibiendo en tan corto periodo de tiempo, y este "Winterbane" les confirma en dicha línea ascendente. Canciones para una vida - Bloodbound - Gathering Of Souls

 

GATHERING  OF  SOULS

Está muy claro, por la deriva compositiva de las últimas obras de esta banda sueca que están muy a gusto con ese aire "Sabatoniano" que adquiere su sonido, algo que por otra parte no tiene por que ser malo en si mismo, quizá solo desde la perspectiva de en cierto modo perder tu propia identidad como banda, pero siempre hay que mirar a los mejores si se quiere crecer, y Sabaton sin duda lo son. Es igualmente de justicia, mencionar que la banda lleva ya tiempo suficiente en esas intenciones y su sonido es ya reconocible así, aunque siga siendo inevitable mencionar a Sabaton al escuchar material nuevo de ellos. Un buen ejemplo ilustrativo de lo que digo es este tema, "Gathering of souls", de su octavo LP de estudio "Creatures of the dark realm" del presente 2021, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Glenmore - Speak To Me

 

SPEAK  TO  ME

Vamos a la escena alemana de nuevo, uno de los valores seguros en esto del heavy metal, para recurrir en esta ocasión a uno de esos momentos difíciles para el heavy en general, como fueron los años que terminaron la década de los ochenta y la primera mitad de los 90. Con años dificiles me refiero al contexto del heavy metal crudo, el de la vieja escuela, el sonido clásico que en la citada época le tocó lidiar con otros subgéneros evolucionados de él, hacia dos vertientes diferenciadas, el hard rock, que en su vertiente americana arrasaba en muchos aspectos casi seduciendo a bandas puramente heavy's como Accept, o Judas, o Saxon, o la primera evolución hacia el power que terminaría por eclipsar al heavy de la old school en la siguiente década. Además otros subgéneros como el progresivo cobraban nuevo impulso, y otros movimientos más hacían que a mitad de los 90 o antes hubiera un bajón de bandas en este sentido heavy metal clásico. Hoy quiero rescatar otra banda desconocida, en este cso como decía al inicio de la escuela germana, enmarcado en un sonido personal con guiños a muchas cosas, que desarrollo su carrera en ese corto periodo de tiempo tan crítico, "Glenmore" cuya discografía con solo dos LP's se dió entre 1993 y 1994 para fundirse en una anónima disolución sin haber levantado apenas expectación. De su primera obra, "Materialized", de 1993, quiero hoy dejar uno de sus temas, "Speak to me" buen ejemplo de lo interesantes que sonaban estos chicos, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Laaz Rockit - City's Gonna Burn

 

CITY'S  GONNA  BURN

Escuela estadounidense dentro del Heavy Meatla clásico, y de la década de los ochenta, hablamos de "Laaz Rockit", una banda que ha ido saltando los límites de una a otra obra flirteando con el citado heavy metal de la vieja escuela o dandole un punto más de velocidad para rozar el "Speed metal" y caer en ocasiones en el "Thrash", o acercarse. posteriormente, en la parte más tardía de su carrera se le da incluso la etiqueta de "power". Sea como sea, y más allá de etiquetas hablamos de una banda con una carrera larga, centrandose una importante parte de la misma en la década de los ochenta, en que editó 4 de sus 6 LP's, pudiendose icluir el quinto de sus discos en ese primer paquete ya que lo editan en 1991, y tras el que cerraron una primera etapa que es sin duda la que les dio todo lo conseguido. Realmente no han tenido un reconocimiento general, siendo de esas bandas de "segunda fila" teniendo argumentos para aspirar a algo más. Canciones para una vida - Starforger - Just Another Sinner

 

JUST  ANOTHER  SINNER

 

Starforger es una banda británica que se mueve dentro del death melódico. Formados a mediados de la pasada década han editado aún muy poco material de estudio, limitandose su producción musical a un EP en 2016 y un LP este 2021, concretamente su disco "Wreath of frost" que vio la luz el pasado mes de febrero. La banda recurre argumentalmente a la serie de videojuegos "Final Fantasy" para poner letras a sus composiciones y en lo musical se aprecia un componente sinfónico de arreglos a esa base death llena de melodías. Si bien la escena británica no es el estilo por el que más destaca, estos chicos en no pocas ocasiones podrían pasar por ser originarios de los paises escandinavos reyes indiscutibles del subgénero. Canciones para una vida - Powerwolf - Beast Of Gevaudan

 

BEAST  OF  GEVAUDAN

Este año es también el escogido por los alemanes "Powerwolf" para editar material nuevo de estudio, otra de esas bandas que mueven el interes de una legión de seguidores y cuyo sonido ha alcanzado una identidad propia reconocida, reconocible e imitada. La nueva obra se titula "Call of the wild", décimo LP del grupo, y saldra a la venta de forma oficial el 9 de julio de este 2021 y de ella, a juzgar por el sonido de su adelanto, "Beast of Gevaudan" se confirma una vez más el camino escogido por la banda en sus último LP's  Dejo un enlace a youtube de este primer single "Beast Of Gevaudan".

Canciones para una vida - Great Master - Randy Dandy Oh

 

RANDY  DANDY  OH

Una de las grandes y agradables sorpresas para mí de 2019 fue el disco que se sacaron de la manga estos italianos, Great Master, "Skull and bones", obra que recuerda a muchas cosas y que retoma el argumentario corsario tan de moda en estos días para dar un paso adelante en su carrera que ha sido evidente. Este 2021 dan continuidad a su buen momento con la edición de otra obra, considerada un LP por los 9 temas que contiene aunque creo que habría sido más apropiado catalogarlo como un EP, ya que algunos de los temas que incluye son versiones acusticas o promocionales junto con algunos temas nuevos. Desde luego sea como sea la catalogación de la obra, si que siguen en la buena senda mostrada en su anterior disco mencionado, y quizá arrastrados por el reconocimiento a ese gran disco incluyen temas regrabados o variados, como para llamar la atención sobre el material anterior y su carrera previa antes de que el público se olvide de ellos. Canciones para una vida - Marius Danielsen's Legend Of Valley Doom - Journey To The North

 

JOURNEY  TO  THE  NORTH

Desde Noruega llega en este 2021 la tercera entrega del músico Marius Danielsen con su proyecto familiar y de colaboraciones "Legend of valley doom" ya en su tercer episodio como digo. Este proyecto comenzó en 2005 como idea y se plasmó diez años más tarde en el primero de los episodios de esta historia llena de colaboraciones de lujo y enmarcada en un power metal con arreglos y un hilo argumental en plena onda a los primeros discos de Avantasia. Estamos ante una "opera metalica" que se ha repetido en muchas versiones en las últimas décadas, es decir que como idea no descubre nada nuevo, sin embargo, el transcurrir de la carrera del grupo va mostrando un mejor hacer progresivamente y en este tercer episodio se alcanzan cotas altas que los amantes del subgénero power celebrarán sin duda. Canciones para una vida - Incursed - Who Stole My Beer

 

WHO  STOLE  MY  BEER

Tiempo llevaba ya queriendo traer material de los españoles "Incursed" al blog, y el nuevo material de estudio de la banda, "Baskavigin" del presente 2021 es la escusa perfecta. El grupo se forma en Burgos, (Aranda de Duero) en 2007 para "emigrar" a Bilbao en 2009, buscando imagino mayor apoyo y posibilidades promocionales y de grabación..Siempre se han movido en el entorno estilistico del death melódico con tintes folk y una base instrumental en ocasiones cercana al power para ir desarrollando un estilo personal que ha ido afinandose a medida que avanzaba su carrera. Cinco LP's de estudio más dos EP's componen su discografía y de los miembros originales tan solo el batería permanece en la banda, eso se ha notado también en la inclusión de letras en euskera, además de otras en inglés, en algunos de sus temas desde 2016 en adelante, con la entrada a la banda de sangre nueva de su zona de residencia. Sea como sea, la banda parece ir, como digo, en franco crecimiento y su quinto LP de estudio así lo demuestra, "Baskavigin" salido a la venta el pasado mes de febrero, obra de la que dejo hoy en el blog el tema "Who stole my beer", con ese innegable aire finlandés y nórdico, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Helloween - Fear Of The Fallen

 

FEAR  OF  THE  FALLEN

Absolutamente vigente lo dicho en el primer adelanto de la esperada obra reunión de los miticos "Helloween", quienes nos dejan estos días otro de los adelantos de su obra homónima "Helloween" que saldrá a la venta de forma oficial el 18 de junio. El nuevo tema se titula "Fear of the fallen" y en él encontramos más motivos para esperar un importante disco que veremos si encuentra continuidad a largo plazo, o a corto medio en sucesivas obras. Desde luego la idea que mostraba yo en la entrada "Skyfall" no hace sino  acudir de nuevo a mi cabeza, ¿como se repartirán el protagonismo vocal Deris y Kiske?,¿alcanzarán el equilibrio perfecto y necesario para no entrar en conflicto?, sea como sea esta obra será seguramente un regalo para los que amamos el sonido de la banda, de las diferentes épocas, y desde luego de lo que no cabe duda alguna es de la magia compositiva del genio Hansen, cuya figura no hace sino crecer con los años, y este es un paso más en esa dirección de crecimiento. Canciones para una vida - Evermore - See No Evil

 

SEE  NO  EVIL

Gratisisma sorpresa la de estos suecos para mí de reciente descubrimiento, aunque en general se les pueda atribuir la etiqueta de banda nueva ya que su formación se remonta al pasado 2020. Ya dejé una de las canciones que componen su primer LP "Court of the tyrant king" en el blog y hoy quiero dejar otra de las que me han llamado la atención, aunque en general me parece un buen debut, "See no evil", tema de esos que se meten rápido en la cabeza y que uno tararea el estribillo desde la primera escucha, esperemos que la carrera de la banda siga en crecimiento pues de hacerlo así darán mucho que hablar.
