LIONS  OF  THE  SEA

Tres de tres, los adelantos del nuevo disco de Grave Digger parecen prometer una obra que destacará entre los lanzamientos de este 2020, con ese guiño a los mejores momentos power de la historia de la banda, con la épica en los coros y en los acordes, en las letras históricas y en general en el ambiente que va envolviendo la obra que está por venir. Este tercer adelanto del "Fields Of Blood" que verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo 29 de mayo, se titula "Lions Of The Sea", tema muy en la onda épica de la banda, un tanto simple si se quiere pero igualmente efectivo, con muchos de los ingredientes típicos y esperables de Grave Digger, y de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Alestorm - Tortuga

TORTUGA

Dificil ya catalogar a una banda como "Alestorm", sobre todo teniendo en cuenta la progresiva dirección que va tomando la banda. Quiza sea motivo de la creación de la banda "Gloryhammer" por parte de Christopher Bowes (alma mater de Alestorm además de teclista y cantante) el hecho de dar salida a toda la vertiente más puramente Power, dejanto abierta de para en par la puerta a sonidos y estructuras más heterodoxas y gamberras, de fusiones casi imposibles que se dan hoy en día en Alestorm. Sea como sea ya está de nuevo aquí la banda escocesa corsaria con su ovtavo album de estudio "Curse of the crystal coconut" cuya salida oficial se espera para este 29 de mayo. Y de ella hoy dejo en el blog su segundo adelanto "Tortuga", buen ejemplo de lo anteriormente expuesto, un tema que he tenido que escuchar varias veces para decidir realmente en que lado de la balanza ponerlo, pero que finalmente, con su extraña capacidad de enganche he decidido traer al blog, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Aether Realm - TMHC

TMHC

Recientemente salido a la venta este pasado 1 de mayo, el cuarto LP de los estadounidenses "Aether Realm" se titula "Redneck vikings from hell". Esta banda es una de esas a las que su sonido parece no acompañar exactamente con el origen y escuela a la que pertenecen, es decir, a pesar de su origen norteamericano su sonido parece más afin al norteeuropeo, en la parte inicial de su carrera con ese toque folk death melódico con un tufillo a Ensiferum, para progresivamente ir evolucionando hacia un sonido más death melódico técnico en plan Children Of Bodom si se quiere. No se puede negar tampoco el gusto por la experimentación haciendo guiños a sonidos más electrónicos, un tanto "Synthwave", pero siempre con ese buen gusto compositivo y de calidad como seña de identidad. Como digo, a medida que la carrera del grupo avanza, el ambiente Folk va desapareciendo y esta cuarta entrega es mucho más death técnico. Canciones para una vida - Ensiferum - Rum, Women, Victory

RUM,  WOMEN,  VICTORY

 Como siempre ocurre con bandas de este calibre, y, además, entrando en lo personal, Ensiferum es una de esas bandas que durante mucho tiempo ocupó el cenit absoluto de mi top de bandas, la simple salida de material nuevo suscita ilusión instantaneamente. En este caso, y teniendo en cuenta su último trabajo  "Two Paths" de 2017, casi en la misma medida que ilusión miedo, de ver que dirección decide tomar un grupo como este. He de decir, que ya desde la primera escucha de su primer adelanto, "Rum, women, victory" he notado esa sensación calida y conocida que me hace tener esperanza, pues el sonido es claramente Ensiferum, y mirando las canciones que componen la obra y viendo su duración se podría intuir que los experimentos se pueden haber dejado fuera, (dicho sea con todas las precauciones). Veremos. De momento he notado la incorporación nueva del cantante de voces limpias y teclista Pekka Montin, que le da un toque claramente más power a sus partes, curioso por inesperado, pero prometedor, nuevamente veremos. De momento dejo un enlace a youtube de este "Rum Women victory", perteneciente al que será octavo album de estudio del grupo, de título "Thalassic" y cuya salida oficial se espera para el próximo 10 de Julio.

Canciones para una vida - ATC - I'm Alive

I'M  ALIVE

 Recuperemos otra de las muchas bandas "monodisco" de esas que se dieron en la década de los ochenta y de esas que pasaron sin pena ni gloria por la escena internacional, una vez más sin tener nada que ver en ello la calidad y potencial. Rebuscando hoy en la escena sueca de la época encontramos a "ATC", un grupo en clave de heavy metal - Hard 'n heavy, con un sonido muy de la primera mitad de los 80. Se formaron en 1978, estando en activo hasta 1985, tiempo en el que editaron tan solo un LP, "Cut In Ice" de 1984. Destaca de estre sus miembros la figura del guitarrista Mats "Mappe" Bjorkman, quien tras su inicio en esta banda recalaría en "Candlemass" donde ha desarrollado la mayor parte de su carrera musical. Volviendo al sonido de "ATC", un heavy metal con un aire un tanto hardrockero como decía más arriba, un tanto sencillo pero que gustará a los amantes del sonido ochentero, como ilustra bien la canción "I'm Alive" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Sonata Arctica - The Wolves Die Young

THE  WOLVES  DIE  YOUNG

Poco que decir de este grupo, para lo bueno y para lo malo, y poco que, a nivel personal, no haya dicho ya con anterioridad en el blog, tan solo repetir ese sentimiento de añoranza de tiempos pasados llenos de velocidad y contundencia dentro del power que hicieron suyo muy desde el inicio de su carrera. Siguiendo con esa idea, tiempo hace ya que su sonido se ralentizó demasiado, casi haciendo sentir a los fans de los comienzos de la banda una sensación casi de traición por la necesidad de seguir discfrutando más tiempo de ese concepto, e igualmente, siempre que se intuye que una canción en concreto va en esa línea, aunque sea minimamente se hace un esfuerzo más por ilusionarse con una posible vuelta a los "Ecliptica" y sucesores, algo que por desgracia nunca llega. Sea como fuere la calidad en la banda es innegable y suelen dejar pinceladas de su clase en cada obra, y de la "Pariah Child" de 2014 el single "The wolves die young" muestra esa clase, aún a un nivel más ralentizado, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Firewind - Welcome To The Empire

WELCOME  TO  THE  EMPIRE

 Esat es una de esas bandas en las que, echando la vista atrás te das cuenta de que ya llevan a sus espaldas una larga carrera que empezó hace un montón de años, (1998), y que sigue en la brecha en plena forma, continuando ese concepto que empezaron a medio camino entre el heavy y el power. Como he dicho ya en más ocasiones la figura fundamental de esta banda en el guitarrista griego Gus G., el único nexo común en todas la obras de la banda, (Nueve ya), y que recientemente ha cambiado de cantante, estrenando puesto para su noveno disco, "Firewind" a punto de salir en este 2020, (15 de mayo). Hoy quiero dejar en el blog el segundo single de esta obra, canción titulada "Welcomen to the empire", y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Luca Turilli - To Magic Horizons & Black Dragon

TO  MAGIC  HORIZONS  &  BLACK  DRAGON

Retomemos el inicio de la carrera del guitarrista italiano Luca Turilli en solitario, alla por el final del pasado siglo, cuando el concepto esgrimido por el músico no distaba demasiado de lo hecho por su banda madre "Rhapsody". Debemos tener en cuenta que, a pesar de que la carrera de la banda citada, "Rhapsody" era aún más bien incipiente, Luca Turilli ya tenía la necesidad en ese año 1999 de mostrar su propia versión de la música, en ese momento clónica a la de Rhapsody, lo que auguraba lo que estaba por suceder años más tarde, y es que el ego de este artísta debe ser demasiado grande para que su nombre no figure por encima del de los demás, o al menos esa es la sensación que siempre he tenido. Eso quedará demostrado más adelante de este momento histórico de la banda, cuando empiece a hacer más consistente su prooyecto paralelo, y a medida que ocurre, ir perdiendose en un concepto tan personal que al menos yo soy incapaz de seguir. Luego las separaciones, conflictos, fichajes de ex compañeros, etc, vaya, el culebrón que todos conocemos. Pero centrándonos de nuevo en su inicio, esta obra resulta fundamental para los seguidores de aquellos primeros Rhapsody, y de ella hoy quiero dejar en el blog su intro y primer tema, "To magic horizons & black dragon", de las que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Astralion - Mysterious & Victorious

MYSTERIOUS  &  VICTORIOUS

Astralion es una banda de Power metal finlandesa cuya carrera comenzó en 2011. Su sonido, dentro del power, es lo que uno esperaría que fuese teniendo en cuenta su origen, corte europeo y escuela nordica, buena producción, arreglos cuidados y una composición melódica, limpia y enganchona, coros incluidos. Han editado dos LP's de estudio, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, el primero de ellos "Astralion" de 2014 y el segundo "Outlaw" de 2016. No está formada por músicos de renombre ni procedentes de otras bandas, tratandose de un proyecto original. Como digo llevan desde 2016 sin editar nada de material de estudio pero sin embargo aparecen en activo, veremos que nos depara el futuro. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su debut "Astralion", en concreto la canción que abre la obra, toda una declaración de intenciones, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Edguy - Defenders Of The Crown

DEFENDERS  OF  THE  CROWN

Hace ya mucho tiempo que el bueno de Tobias Sammet saco material de estudio con su banda madre "Edguy" por última vez, exactamente desde 2014 con "Space Police - Defenders Of The Crown". Es cierto que la gran inquietud de este músico le ha hecho abrir quizás demasiados frentes al mismo tiempo, y ello le ha terminado obligando a desatender las necesidades de una banda tan importante como Edguy a nivel internacional, hasta el punto de que por el momento la continuidad del grupo esta "en el aire". Como digo, son ya seis años sin editar material de estudio salvo el recopilatorio "Monuments" de 2017, y sería una pena que la banda terminase por disolverse tras una carrera llena de momentos más que importantes. Mismamente, atendiendo a su último material editado encontramos una obra de buen nivel que da motivos para pensar en su continuidad sin problemas, claro está, si se le dedica tiempo completo, cosa que Sammet no creo que tenga atendiendo las necesidades también de Avantasia. Sea como sea, es siempre buen momento de recuperar las perlas de este grupo, y hoy quiero hacerlo con su "Space Police - defenders of the crown", y su tema casi homónimo "Defenders of the crown" del que dejo un enlace a youtube. Esperemos ver más capítulos en un futuro, sería una pena dejar morir a una banda como esta.

SHADOWS  OF  THE  DYING  SUN

Hablamos, al referirnos a este grupo, "Insomnium" de la esencia misma del death melódico de la escuela finlandesa, puesto que es una de esas bandas que encarnan las virtudes del subgénero en su totalidad. Hablamos pues de calidad, de acierto compositivo desde el comienzo de la andadura del grupo, allá por 1997, y, a medida que pasa el tiempo y se suceden las obras, hablamos ya de una importante producción musical con 8 LP's de estudio. Hoy quiero recuperar el sexto disco de la banda, "Shadows of the dying sun", de 2014, para el que resulta absolutamente válido lo anteriormente expuesto, grandes melodías, en una obra completa y de alto nivel de la que se pueden destacar muchos temas como por ejemplo el que da nombre a la obra, "Shadows of the dying sun", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Equilibrium - Wellengang

WELLENGANG

Despojado, como ha sido en este tramo final de su carrera, particularmente en su sexto y, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, último LP de estudio, de prácticamente toda seña de identidad, de esa que les hizo salir de la marea del anonimato, Equilibrium ha ido evolucionando en su sonido desde la primera obra. Tan lícita forma de enfocar su carrera musical se torna casi en un sentimiento de traición al dar ya pasos que se alejan tanto de lo que cabría esperar de una obra heredera de otras que han escrito páginas superlativas en esto del sonido metálico. Veremos hacia donde les llevan sus pasos en el futuro, pero no estaría nada mal retornar a las raices que les hicieron merecedores de la etiqueta de "Epic folk death metal melódico", ya que más de la mitad de dichos apelativos han degenerado en otra cosa. Sea como fuere, es siempre un placer recuperar momentos brillantes de los muchos que ha creado este grupo en el pasado, como los que destellan en su "Erdentempel" de 2014. Canciones para una vida - Wolfhorde - Black Song

BLACK  SONG

 El segundo LP de los finlandeses "Wolfhorde" se titula "Hounds of perdition" y salió a la venta el pasado 2019. A pesar de llevar tan dolo dos LP's en su discografía no debemos dejarnos engañar con la posibloe idea de falta de experiencia en esto de la música ya que las raices de la banda proceden de una banda anterior y con la denominación de "Wolfhorde" llevan dando guerra desde comienzos de siglo. Además complementan su discografía con tres EP's lo que da algo más de consistencia a su aventura musical. Su sonido se centra en un black metal con aire folk, con melodía y buen hacer en todos sus apartados.Son tres unicamente los miembros que componen el grupo y que se encargan de todos los instrumentos y voz, incluidos instrumentos tradicionales en ocasiones. De este segundo LP dejop hoy en el blog la canción "Black Song", con un aire enganchón desde la primera escucha, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

THREADING  THE  NEEDLE

Nuevo ejemplo de como esta banda puede encontrarse equidistante a varios conceptos musicales siempre manteniendo en todo ellos un alto nivel, de esta manera tenemos temas que se acercan más al power metal, otros con una base más heavy y otros con un aire más hard rockero, pero como digo, siempre con la calidad por bandera, algo que es cada vez más evidente, y más entrando en este momento del grupo de una ya cierta madurez en este su séptimo LP de estudio, "the dark delight" del presente 2020. Canciones para una vida - Magnus Karlsson's Free Fall - Queen Of Fire

QUEEN  OF  FIRE

Segundo adelanto de la tercera obra de estudio en solitario del músico poliinstrumentista y cantante Magnus Kalrsson. Ya es por todos conocida su costumbre de componer para múltiples proyectos o bandas, y en su material en solitario de hacerse acompañar por músicos de primera línea, sobre todo en funciones vocales. Para este segundo adelanto es esto lo que precisamente hace y además con una de las voces más de moda del panorama internacional, Noora Louhimo, (Battle Beast), que presta su voz a esta especie de medio tiempo lleno de sentimiento y fuerza, algo que casa bien con el registro de la cantante finlandesa.
