Canciones para una vida - Viva - Break Out

BREAK OUT

Una de esas bandas pioneras para hoy. Se trata de los alemanes "Viva", formados en 1980. Son como digo un grupo pionero puesto que se les considera como uno de los primeros grupos en hacer heavy metal "de verdad" en Alemania junto con Trance y Accept. Como digo su música es un heavy metal con un punto Hard Rock, un sonido muy en alza en los años de los que estamos hablando. A lo largo de su carrera han sacado 5 discos de estudio entre los años 1980 y 1996 más un EP. Supuestamente han retomado la actividad desde 2007 pero sin editar material alguno. Jamás alcanzaron los niveles de popularidad de sus compatriotas Accept pero en cuestiones de calidad no tienen nada que envidiar a dicha banda. En cuanto a sus miembros haremos referencia a su vocalista inicial, Marco Paganini, quien estuvo con la banda hasta 1983 y que parece haberse reenganchado a esta nueva etapa iniciada en 2007, un cantante con una carrera musical en solitario con cierto éxito bajo el nombre de Paganini y como cantante para "Tygers of Pang Tang". Además podemos destacar que en referencia al grupo al que nos referimos hoy, su guitarrista Kai Reuter grabó con tan solo 15 años su primera obra de estudio, "Born to rock", de 1980. Así que hoy quiero dejar una canción en el blog de su segunda obra de estudio titulada "What the hell is going on", de 1981, en que la que queda demostrado lo que os comento de su calidad y su cierto parecido estilístico a sus compatriotas y coetáneos Accept, con un adolescente a la guitarra y Paganini a la voz. Siempre es bueno echar un vistazo hacia atrás para darnos cuenta globalmente de donde nos encontramos hoy y por la sinceridad de los grupos de antes, una sinceridad acompañada en muchas ocasiones por una gran calidad, como es el caso al que nos referimos hoy. Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - Abyss Of The Void

ABYSS OF THE VOID

Que decir de una de las grandes bandas de la escena internacional dentro de nuestra música que ya no sepa todo el mundo. Hagamos un breve paso por su historia. Cuando kai Hansen salio de Helloween en 1989, formó este grupo, sin en principio grandes pretensiones, y tras haber pasado un tiempo haciendo colaboraciones con otras bandas como Blind Guardian. Es en ese mismo 1989 cuando decide formar Gamma Ray, junto a otros músicos como Ralf Scheepers, hasta entonces vocalista de Tyran Pace. En 1990 editan su primera obra de estudio que es inmediatamente un rotundo éxito, como no podía ser de otra manera pues estamos ante uno de los "reyes Midas" en esto del Heavy que parecen convertir en oro todo lo que tocan. Desde entonces y hasta la fecha de esta reseña 11 discos de estudio y 3 EP's hablan de un grupo consolidado en lo más alto de la cima metálica. Esta es la primera de las referencias que haremos a este gran grupo en este blog pero no será la última. Para hoy una canción de uno de sus discos más respetados y uno de mis favoritos, el "Land  of the free" de 1995, su cuarta obra de estudio, y la primera en la que, tras la salida de Gamma Ray de Ralf Scheepers en 1994 por supuestas razones logísticas de la banda, Kai Hansen se haría con las funciones de vocalista, al igual que lo hiciera ya antes en Helloween en sus inicios. El disco "land of the free" es antológico, con grandes canciones entre las que es dificil escoger, incluso con una con la colaboración de Michael Kiske a la voz, en el tema "Time to break free". Canciones para una vida - Scarlet Red - You Live Fast

YOU LIVE FAST

Hablar de los últimos ochenta es hacerlo también de música más hardrockera, y en esa época había infinidad de bandas, muchas de las cuales alcanzaron un notable éxito internacional, otras sin embargo fueron poco más que una aventura de un solo disco y apenas fueron conocidas a nivel internacional. Un caso de estos podría ser Scarlet Red, un grupo de origen estadounidense,  que hacía un hard rock cercano al heavy, con ese sonido tan característico de esa época, y que sacaron solo una obra de estudio, en 1989, titulada "Don't dance with danger", un poco si se quiere en onda Stryper. Quiero dejar hoy el tema "you live fast" de dicho disco, un tema enganchón y facil de escuchar que representa una parte de lo que se hacía a finales de los ochenta y principios de los noventa. Canciones para una vida - Pretty Maids - Fantasy

FANTASY

Uno de los grandes grupos internacionales daneses para hoy. Ya hemos hablado de ellos antes en este blog y como dijimos, Pretty Maids es una banda que comenzó en 1981 como un grupo que hacia versiones principalmente de Thin Lizzy con cierto éxito en Dinamarca y que al incorporar en 1982 a Ronnie Atkins a la voz, comenzaron a grabar su propio material. Han sacado a la venta 14 albumes de estudio y puede decirse que son uno de los grupos clásicos más respetados de los que continuan desde principios de los ochenta. Con un estilo heavy metal melódico que se ha ido adaptando a los tiempos que corren son una banda de esas que nunca te defraudan y que entre su extenso material tienen una gran cantidad de canciones espectaculares. Hoy quiero referirme a su primer EP, editado en 1983, antes de su primer larga duracion "Red, Hot and Heavy" que saldría al año siguiente, en 1984. Pues bien, en dicho EP del 83 ya se les veía del pie que iban a cojear, pues destilaban calidad desde sus inicios. El EP "Pretty Maids" es impresionante, sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que es su debut, y sino escucha temas como "Shelly the Maid", "Bad boys" o "Fantasy", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Keldian - Requiem For The Light

REQUIEM FOR THE LIGHT

Ya hemos hablado del grupazo Keldian en este blog y como ya dijimos, estos noruegos hacen una musica diferente, basada en melodias de sintetizador que le dan un aire electronico a su musica pero con un toque muy epico y tambien muy espacial en algunos de sus temas y con potentes riffs de guitarra, en un power metal muy limpio. Tienen tres discos de estudio, autoproducidos y esto no debe asustarnos pues es una producción muy cuidada que saca un sonido limpisimo. Formados en 2005, este par de noruegos funcionaron bajo el nombre de Keld hasta 2006 en que cambian su nombre a Keldian.Será en 2007 cuando saquen su primer larga duración, este "Heaven's Gate" del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a una de sus canciones, la impresionante "requiem for the light", una canción espectacular al más puro estilo Keldian. Después han sacado otro par de discos, en 2008 y 2013, siempre autoproducidos, y con dificultades económicas, y al escuchar su material uno solo puede preguntarse como es posible que ninguna discográfica les apoye, habiendo tanta basura publicada con el apoyo de una multinacional.... en fin... cosas del mundo de la música. Keldian es un grupo extraordinario, que evidentemente a mi me gusta mucho, y que creo que merecen una oportunidad, sino, estudiate su discografía y me darás la razón. Canciones para una vida - Judas Priest - Blood Red Skies

BLOOD RED SKIES

Como ya hemos dicho en la anterior entrada de Judas Priest, se formaron en Inglaterra en 1969, bajo el nombre Freight por dos de sus miembros, K.K. Downing e Ian Hill, que eran compañeros de escuela. En 1970 dan un paso adelante e incorporan a Al Atkins en funciones de vocalista cambiando su nombre al de Judas Priest. Asi van funcionando sacando demos hasta 1973. En 1974 hay un cambio decisivo pues el vocalista pasa a ser Rob Halford, uno de los sellos representativos de esta superbanda. Desde ese momento 17 obras de estudio hablan de una de las bandas más grandes que ha dado nuestra música. Ante la extensa carrera musical que han desarrollado, y ante la calidad de la misma, es una de esas bandas a la que aludiremos en varias ocasiones. Esta vez me quiero referir a su obra "Ram It down", su undécima obra de estudio, de 1988. Quiero dejar un enlace de su tema "Blood Red Skies", una canción que desde la primera vez que la escuché siempre me ha llamado la atención, y es que con sus casi 8 minutos tiene tiempo para meterte en ella y engancharte, siendo una de las que más me gustan de este disco, que por otra parte tiene un gran nivel en general, como no podía ser de otra manera viniendo de los Judas. Canciones para una vida - Dignity - Icarus

ICARUS

Dignity es un grupo austriaco de power metal melódico, creado en 2006 por el batería en aquel momento de Edenbridge, Roland Navratil, y el teclista Frank Pitters. Pronto se les une John Boy Bastard al bajo y Martin Mayr a la guitarra, actualmente sustituido por Phil Porter. Con esa formación se centran en grabar material y sacan su primera demo en 2007. En ese momento buscan un vocalista y es Jake E. Berg el elegido, quien será sustituido por Soren Adamsen en su segunda obra de estudio. En 2008, y enfocados solo en Dignity, la banda saca su primer larga duración, Project Destiny, un disco estupendo que será el primero de los dos que hasta la fecha tienen editado. La segunda obra se titula Balance of Power, y salió en 2013. Este grupo es uno de esos que no me sorprendería que diesen la campanada un día u otro, si consiguen un poco de estabilidad, pues la calidad les sobra, como puede escucharse por ejemplo en este temazo , Icarus, del que dejo un enlace a youtube, sacado de su primera obra de 2008  Project Destiny, que es la que más completa me parece y la que más me gusta hasta la fecha de esta reseña.

Canciones para una vida - Attack - Light In The Dark

LIGHT IN THE DARK

Como ya dijimos en la anterior entrada de Attack,  estos alemanes son una banda de esas que no son demasiado conocidas a pesar de contar con cinco discos de estudio a sus espaldas,entre los años 1984 y 1995. Se trata de un Heavy-power metal solo que de la vieja escuela, sin duda el sonido nos sonara a eso, a la vieja escuela pero es enganchón, a lo largo de sus discos encontrareis buenas canciones que merecen una oportunidad. Comienzan su andadura musical alla por 1983, sacando su primer larga duración en 1984. y a pesar de supuestamente no estar separados, no han sacado nada de estudio desde este "The secret place" que hoy quiero dejar en el blog. Se trata como digo de su quinta y última obra, de 1995, en la que encontramos buenos temas como este "Light in the dark". Muy en el estilo del grupo, que parece anclado en 1986 musicalmente hablando, aunque dicho sea como un piropo, ya que destila autenticidad en cada nota. Merece la pena acercarse a este buen grupo, demasiado infravalorado para la calidad que poseen, según mi humilde opinión. Dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Audiovision - Keep The Fire Burning

KEEP THE FIRE BURNING

Audiovision es un proyecto paralelo del cantante y compositor Christian Rivel, conocido por sus trabajos en bandas como DivineFire o Narnia, de la que hablaremos en este blog en alguna ocasión. En el año 2003 este sueco crea Audiovision para dar rienda suelta a composiciones no sujetas al criterio de otros musicos, encaminando su música a un hard, heavy , melodic power metal, de corte moderno con un cierto aire electrónico, un poco en la línea de los también nórdicos Brother Firetribe (Finlandia) o Prime Time (Dinamarca), con ese sonido tan pulido y bien producido. Audiovision tiene dos discos de estudio, The Calling, de 2005, y este Focus de 2010, del que se extrae este tema del que quiero dejar un enlace hoy, "Keep the fire burning", facil de escuchar, que llega a la primera escucha, un tema con un estructura clásica compositivamente pero con un sonido moderno. Canciones para una vida - Doro - Raise Your Fist In The Air

RAISE YOUR FIST IN THE AIR

Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de la vocalista y compositora alemana Doro Pesch, que  como todos sabemos, Warlock fue su banda original. La formación original de Warlock fue perdiendo miembros desde su segundo disco, hasta que tras el disco "triumph and agony" en 1987, tan solo Doro quedaba como miembro fundador de la banda y decide cesar la actividad como Warlock para pasar la banda a funcionar bajo el nombre de Doro, momento desde el que la banda ha sacado 12 Discos de estudio y numerosos EP's. Se puede decir que Doro por lo tanto es una continuación de Warlock pero su música ha evolucionado desde los tiempos de su banda madre, aunque utiliza habitualmente en su repertorio en directo temas de Warlock. El disco al que me voy a referir es su última obra de estudio hasta la fecha de esta reseña, titulado "Raise your fist", del año 2012, y el tema el que casi da titulo a la obra, Raise your fist in the air, todo un ejemplo del sonido de esta musico de larga trayectoria en la escena musical. Canciones para una vida - Q5 - Steel The Light

STEEL THE LIGHT

Q5 es una banda de Hard ' n ' heavy de Estados Unidos, formada en 1983 por entre otros Floyd Rose en la guitarra, musico e ingeniero, conocido en el mundo de la música por la creación de un revolucionario puente de guitarra llamada  The Floyd Rose Locking Tremolo, o simplemente Floyd Rose. Es un tipo de puente que sujeta las cuerdas con tornillos y se balancea en resortes o muelles, y que será popularizado los guitarristas de heavy metal de la década de los ochenta. Como grupo, Q5 tiene dos discos de estudio, de los años 1984 y 1985, separandose en 1986 y recientemente volviendo a juntarse este año 2014, ya veremos con que resultado. Canciones para una vida - At Vance - Soldier Of Time

SOLDIER OF TIME

Como ya hemos dicho en este blog, esta banda alemana nace  bajo el nombre de Centers y comienzan a utilizar el nombre de At Vance a partir de 1998, sacando su primera obra de estudio es 1999, desde ese momento 9 LP's han visto la luz y el grupo ha sufrido varios cambios en la formación original, así, de los dos integrantes originales, Olaf Lenk en las guitarras y teclados y Oliver Hartmann a la voz, tan solo Olaf continua, abandonando Oliver la formación en 2003. En cierto modo, la característica y portentosa voz de Oliver Hartmann fue marca del grupo, aunque a nivel compositivo si que se ha mantenido el grupo al mismo nivel a pesar de los cambios en el puesto de cantante. Hoy quiero dejar una canción del grupo, de su primera época con Oliver a la voz, concretamente de su segunda obra de estudio, del año 2000. Canciones para una vida - AC/DC - Hells Bells

HELLS BELLS

Si hay un grupo australiano conocido y reconocido a nivel planetario, ese es sin duda AC DC, y es que las ventas de obras de esta banda son alucinantes. Tan solo del disco que hoy quiero dejar en el blog, este "Back In Black" se calcula que han vendido más de 50 millones de copias. En 1973, Malmcom Young y Angus Young formaron AC/DC, reclutando al bajista Larry Van Kriedt, al cantante Dave Evans y al batería Colin Burgess. En 1974, Angus y Malcolm se deshicieron del resto del grupo e iniciaron la búsqueda de miembros para una nueva formación. Bon Scott se hará cargo de las voces hasta su trágica muerte en 1980 por una intoxicación etílica. Este disco fue el noveno de la banda y el primero con Brian Johnson como vocalista. Desde sus comienzos más de 20 obras de estudio nos hablan de un mito más que de una banda, en la que ambos vocalistas marcarán la historia del grupo. Singles hay infinidad, y si tuviese que escoger un disco de esta banda me quedaría sin duda con su The Razords edge, de 1990, al que inevitablemente haremos referencia en este blog, pero hoy quiero referirme a su archiconocido himno "Hells Bells", como digo de su disco Back In Black, de 1980, su novena obra de estudio, y la que marca el cambio de vocalista. Hells Bells resulta una canción de esas necesarias para cualquier amante de nuestro género que no podia pasar desapercibida sin que la mencionasemos en este blog, al igual que la banda AC DC. Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Eternity

ETERNITY

Volvemos a Stratovarius en este blog, y muy probablemente no será la última vez que lo hagamos, pues como ya dije en la anterior entrada de estos finlandeses, se trata de una banda que no necesita de ninguna presentación. Como ya dije, dos grandes nombres han marcado la historia de este grupo, Timo Tolkki a la guitarra y Timo Kotipelto a la voz, a pesar de que ninguno de ellos fuera mienbro fundador de la banda. El primero de ambos que se incorporó fue Tolkki muy al principio tocando desde la primera obra de estudio y ocupándose de las funciones de vocalista también en los tres primeros discos. En 1994, y para la grabación de su quinta obra Fourth dimension se incorpora Kotipelto a la voz. Desde esa época el grupo no dejó de crecer y crecer y podemos decir que su éxito fue el abono perfecto para el sugimiento posterior de tantas y tan impresionantes bandas finlandesas en el escenario internacional. Quiero pararme hoy en esta obra, Episode, de 1996, su sexta obra de estudio, en la que muestran una consolidación dentro del estilo, y en la que se reconoce, en gran parte, el sonido que harán desde entonces. El disco a mi juicio es perfecto siendo uno de los que más, si no el que más, me gusta de la banda y escoger una canción tan solo, se antoja dificil. Me decantaré en esta ocasión por su "eternity" un tema de casi siete minutos que realmente se hace hasta corto, y que desde el comienzo se hace enganchón, con un toque un poco progresivo y una composición impecable. En fin, este discazo es uno de esos que hay simplemente que comprarse. Dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dark Moor - Green Eyes

GREEN EYES

Hoy traigo a unos compatriotas, los españoles Dark Moor. Se trata de una buena banda con un ya largo recorrido en esto de la música, pues se forman en 1993, permaneciendo en la escena underground hasta 1998 en que ve la luz su demo. Al año siguiente, en 1999 publican su primer disco de estudio y desde entonces, con varios cambios en la formación han editado 9 discos de estudio más dos EP's hasta la fecha de esta reseña. Su musica es un power metal clásico con ciertas influencias medievales en ocasiones y de temática fantástica. Quiero dejar un tema del disco Beyond the sea, su quinta obra de estudio, de 2005, llamado Green Eyes, basado en un poema de Becquer, una de las canciones que más me gustan de toda su discografía, del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
