SWORD OF SAGON
Un nuevo vistazo a otra banda clásica que ya he traido al blog en varias ocasiones, se trata de los alemanes "Stormwitch". Hoy quiero volver la mirada muy al comienzo de su carrera, en concreto para dejar un tema de su segundo larga duración "Tales of terror", de 1985. Stormwitch es
uno
de esos grupos fundamentales para entender el power metal de hoy en
día. Menos conocidos en general de lo que merecen han sido una gran
influencia musical para muchas de las bandas más conocidas hoy en día y
cuyo máximo exponente lo encontramos en Hammerfall con su famosa versión
de Ravenlord, canción de Stormwitch perteneciente al disco Stronger
Than Heaven de 1986. Stormwitch se forma en 1979 bajo el nombre de
"Lemon
Sylvan" con el que funcionaron hasta 1981 en que se cambian a
Stormwitch. Con la nueva denominación comienzan a sacar obras de estudio
en 1984 hasta crear 9 discos en total hasta 2004. En 1994 la banda se
separa para retomarlo en 2002 sacando dos discos y un tercero, el
décimo de su carrera, "Season of the witch" que ha visto la luz en enero
de este 2015. Su power metal
es una gran influencia para lo que posteriormente se hizo y si nunca los
has escuchado te sorprenderá lo vigente de sus conceptos musicales, si
vamos más allá de la diferente producción que presentaban los discos en
los 80 y hoy en día. Como decía más arriba hoy quiero volver la mirada hacia su segunda obra de estudio, "Tales of terror", de 1985, un disco que recomiendo escuchar completo si es que aún no lo has hecho, y del que hoy quiero concretamente dejar el tema "Sword of Sagon", con su comienzo narrado, bastante "dramatizado" que da paso a un tema que desde el inicio te engancha, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
Once upon a time, in a land far far away
a savage dragon descended on the peaceful town of Sagon.
It burned the fields with its flaming breath,
darkening the skies.
In their despair, the inhabitants prayed to the gods of light,
who had mercy on them, and sent them an old blind swordsmith.
He lit up the forge and began to strike the iron,
the anvil hammered the steel began to glow.
After seven days and seven nights he immersed the steel
in a cauldron of human blood.
As the spirit of the blood hardened the red-hot metal,
the swordsmith fell down and died.
And the light of the glowing day was reflected by the
silvery blade of a wonderful weapon.
