Canciones para una vida - Heavens Gate - Terminated World

TERMINATED  WORLD

Hagamos hoy un ejercicio de justicia recuperando una vez más a una de las bandas en que más diferencia hay o hubo entre su estatus real y el que deberían haber alcanzado a nivel global, los alemanes Heavens Gate, heavy metal clásico, del que aguantó el tirón en la parte final de los ochenta y la primera mitad de los noventa, uno de los pocos que se mantuvieron firmes para evitar la muerte del sonido clásico en esos años de diversificación. Y quiero rescatar uno de los albumes del grupo que no son los más recurrentes o famosos, el cuarto de su discografía "Planet E", de 1996, para el que el grupo introduce algunos pequeños cambios compositivos, como echando el resto para asaltar la cima, con rasgos progresivos o un cierto cambio en la producción, el grupo en definitiva se sacó de la manga un señor discazo que definitivamente tampoco les sirvió para cambiar su fortuna de cara al gran público en general, otra cosa es el reconocimiento que a posteriori va cosechando este señor grupazo. Canciones para una vida - Quartz - Mainline Riders

 

 MAINLINE  RIDERS

Los británicos Quartz son otro caso prototípico de banda que debería haber alcanzado mayor importancia general de la que realmente ha cosechado, pudiendo considerarseles como uno de los pioneros de la NWOBHM a pesar de lo corto de su carrera y su prematura separación en su primera etapa, que, gracias a Dios tuvo continuidad hace una década lo que ha servido para confirmar el tremendo potencial que esta banda atesora y atesoraba y que podría haberles hecho un nombre gigantesco en la escena del heavy metal clásico. Su primer periodo de actividad se da entre 1977 y 1983, publicando tres grandes LP's, el primero de ellos "Quartz" de 1977 y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog su tema "Mainline Riders" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

OCEAN  TWILIGHT

De nuevo una banda más a la que en principio, por el planteamiento previo y su etiqueta de metal sinfónico con voz femenina, no habría prestado mucha atención por el alto riesgo de "opereta" que encuentro en este tipo de bandas, pero que, en ocasiones, me hacen mantener la esperanza de que el intento de clonar al sonido Nightwish no ha de ser siempre la norma, máxime cuando uno lee que en la canción que hoy traigo al blog se ha producido la colaboración de un músico llamado Nicolaj Ruhnow. Timeless Rage, desde Alemania y su debut en formato LP "Untold" de 2022 con la canción "Ocean Twilight" con algunos toques progresivos y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Pagan Altar - Judgement Of The Dead

JUDGEMENT  OF  THE  DEAD

Si hay algo, por encima de todo lo demás, que ofrece la búsqueda de las raíces de nuestro sonido, es la sensación global que uno adquiere en el viaje, y la sensación inequívoca de que todo ha evolucionado pero mantiene un sorprendente nexo común, presente, pasado y casi seguramente futuro se dan la mano para crear variaciones con ese núcleo común. Hoy quiero rescatar otra banda más de las que comenzaron todo esto, como no de la escena británica, son Pagan Altar, grupo que comenzó su carrera en 1978 grabando varias demos hasta 1985 pero sin editar un LP como tal, y centrando su sonido en un proto doom desde luego bastante adelantado a su época. La banda terminaría por arrancar su carrera a finales de los 90 editando todo el viejo material y continuando su carrera, pero hoy, en este repaso histórico de nuestro sonido quiero recuperar algo de aquel primer material, concretamente la canción grabada en 1978 "Judgement of the dead", como digo sorprendentemente adelantada a la década en que se creó, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

MEN  IN  ARMOR

Lo que en un principio podía parecer una banda más que aparecía en el firmamento sonoro internacional va poco a poco tomando forma a medida que su carrera va dando pasos adelante, se trata de los argentinos Percival quien en una clave de heavy metal de corte y aspiraciones épicas ha editado, a fecha de esta reseña dos LP's de estudio, el último de ellos el pasado 2023, y que en este 2024 trata de mantenerse a la vista de todos editando un nuevo single, quien sabe si preludio del tercer album del que aún no tengo constancia. Canciones para una vida - Astral Doors - Vikings Rise

VIKINGS  RISE

Los suecos Astral Doors son uno de esos grupos que me dan la sensación de estar siempre como en un segundo plano, como si fuesen incapaces de dar el salto definitivo a la primerisima línea de bandas internacionales y solo van haciendose un nombre a base de tesçon y de que su carrera a estas alturas es ya muy larga, ya que desde 2002 en que se forman han pasado más de dos décadas y diez LP's de estudio si contamos "The end of it all" que verá la luz de forma oficial en apenas una semana. Por lo demás, desde luego poco o nada tienen que envidiar a otras bandas similares, pero quizá con mejor acogida entre el gran público, power metal de corte europeo, bien ejecutado y producido como sigue evidenciandose en los adelantos de la nueva obra, como por ejemplo en este "Vikings rise" del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - In Flames - Moonshield

 

MOONSHIELD

In Flames es una de esas bandas que ha sido pionera en lo suyo, un grupo que decidió emprender un camino compositivo que después de crear escuela fue seguido por muchos otros creandose así un nuevo subgénero llamado death melódico, si juntamos a In Flames con otro par de bandas como Dark Tranquility y At The Gates, todos suecos y todos de la misma localidad (Gotthenburg) vemos claramente que al death melódico se le puede atribuir un origen sueco, llamandosele también sonido Gotthemburgo. Formados en 1990 la banda ha editado a fecha de esta reseña, 14 LP's de estudio y como digo es considerado como un referencia dentro del subgénero. Echando la vista atrás a los comienzos de su carrera quiero dejar en el blog hoy una de las canciones de su segundo trabajo de estudio "The Jester Race" de 1996, disco respaldado por crítica y fans y del que dejo la canción "Moonshield" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

BANQUET  HALL  MASSACRE

Segundo LP de estudio de los suizos Battle Tales que llega tras seis años desde el debut de 2018 con un EP entre medias (2019), es por lo tanto una obra de confirmación, estilística y meramente de continuidad de su actividad. Así pues encontramos de nuevo su propuesta folk, casi céltica y como digo en la línea de su debut. Canciones para una vida - Krilloan - Atlantean Sword

ATLANTEAN  SWORD

Hablar de power es en no pocas ocasiones sinónimo de hacerlo de Suecia, casi siempre enfocando la propuesta compositiva desde la calidad, haciendo casi propio el sonido internacional y llevandolo a cotas elevadas, además de ser una casi inagotable cantera de bandas nuevas que fijandose en lo hecho por compatriotas antes que ellos desarrollan esa sensación casi de propiedad de subgénero con una naturalidad pasmosa. Lleno con muchos de los cliches esperables del citado sonido llega Krilloan, formados en 2020 y que en este 2024 editan su segundo LP tras su debut de 2022. Camciones para una vida - Neptune - Metal Hearts

  

METAL  HEARTS

Hablamos hoy de otro grupo de larguísimo recorrido, aunque bajo un nombre diferente, a inicios de la década de los ochenta, los suecos Neptune comenzaban su andadura bajo el nombre de "warriens" entre 1980 y 1987 editando cuatro demos antes de separarse, luego, en 2018 tras el cambio de nombre recopilan esos temas en un disco para iniciar esta segundo parte de su andadura. En 2020 editaron su primer LP propiamente dicho para en este 2024 dar continuidad a su carrera con "End of time" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, concretamente "Metal hearts" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Legions Of The Night - Darkness

 

DARKNESS

Desde el inicio de su carrera esta banda germana Legions of the night, me ha parecido poseedora de un sonido de calidad, dificil de encasillar en una sola etiqueta, captando elementos desde el heavy metal al power y con elementos progresivos. Formados en 2020 el grupo ha cogido una inercia compositiva alta, editando en este 2024 su ya tercer LP de estudio que lleva por título "Darkness" y cuya salida a la venta concretamente se produjo el pasado 12 de julio. Esa tendencia progresiva se aprecia muy bien en temas como el que da nombre a la obra "Darkness", con ese uso de los teclados a lo Shadow Gallery, y por supuesto los cambios de ritmo, un tema del que hoy deo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Parche - Son Of A Healer

SON  OF  A  HEALER

Otra banda más de las que su historia y su propio nombre van unidas a un músico, en esta ocasión al guitarrista y compositor Alex Parche, alemán, quien presta su nombre a la banda y en el poco tiempo de actividad de la misma, (1992 a 1995) es el que lleva las riendas. Se trata de un sonido a medio camino del heavy metal y el hard rock, y para 1993 editaban su segundo LP, "Son of a healer" para el que reune además una respetable lista de músicos invitados de la talla de Udo o Fernando Garcia de Victory, como en el tema del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace y que da nombre a la obra, "Son of a healer", para mí un punto extra personalmente por lo que me gusta el trabajo vocal del ex de Victory, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Deep Purple - Fireball

 

FIREBALL

Volvamos a bucear en los comienzos del sonido heavy metal, y al hacerlo obligatoriamente hay que hacer una inmersión en la década de los 70, y es igualmente obligado hacerlo en la discografía de los británicos Deep Purple y en la era de su mítica formación MKII, Lord, Glover Gillan, Blackmore y Paice, ahí es nada. En 1971 la banda editaba ya nada menos que su quinto LP de estudio, "Fireball" obra no tan reconocida como otras entre otras razones por ser la que enlazaba el cuarto trabajo "In Rock" con el sexto, "Machine head" ambos enormemente ensalzados por la crítica internacional y consideradas como obras esenciales de nuestro sonido, sin embargo "Fireball" no deja de ser un discazo con temas como el que abre la obra y le da nombre "Fireball" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Skyeye - Nightfall

 

NIGHTFALL

Con una década ya de actividad los eslovenos Skyeye han editado desde 2014, año de su creación, un total de tres LP's de estudio, el más nuevo de los mismos de este 2024 (19 de julio). Se trata de una banda que gusta de ese sonido a medio camino del heavy metal tradicional y el power metal en una energica mezcla que satisfará a mas de un tipo de oyente. Parecen haber dado un paso al frente respecto a sus dos anteriores obras (2018 y 2021) y su carrera parece por lo tanto en pleno ascenso, De su tercera, y a fecha de esta reseña última obra, "New Horizons" quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, "Nightfall" en una vena muy power, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

RIDING  THE  DRAGONS

El quinto disco de los estadounidenses Ironflame, "Kingdom torn asunder" no es sino una confirmación de lo que viene siendo su carrera desde el comienzo en 2016, ese concepto épico muy en la línea ochentera de las bandas americanas donde todo se realiza con cuerdas, percusión y voz alejandose de los arreglos dramáticos pero redundando en la temática fantástica de espada y brujería. En este 2024 pues sigue la conquista de fans a través de la fórmula cruda pero eficaz de su sonido, otro ejemplo "Riding the dragons" del que dejo un enlace a Youtube.
