Canciones para una vida - Demonaz - All Blackened Sky

ALL BLACKENED SKY

Un artista noruego para escuchar hoy, se trata de Harald Nævdal, conocido como  Demonaz por sus trabajos previos en la banda de black metal Inmortal. Con inmortal se encargaba de tocar la guitarra, y compartía labores de composición hasta completar 8 obras de estudio entre los años 1992 y 2009. Sin embargo, en 1997, se le diagnostican problemas de tendinitis crónica, algo desastroso para un guitarrista, sobre todo para uno con una técnica ultraveloz como la que le dio fama dentro del mundillo. A partir de ese año, la velocidad requerida para ejercer de guitarrista para Inmortal no fue suficiente y sus tareas en la banda se limitan a cuestiones compositivas. Es en 2007 cuando decide crear la banda bajo su seudónimo, Demonaz, encaminada a una música más "relajada" que la que tocaba con Inmortal, aunque la base sigue siendo un black metal la tendencia es mucho más hacia el viking, más épica si se quiere, y además la complementa con composiciones para videojuegos. En fin , en esta tarea de reinventarse nos ha dejado de momento un discazo, este March of the norse, de 2011, una obra muy buena de la que se pueden destacar muchos temas, y de la que quiero destacar el All Blackened Sky del que dejo un enlace a youtube y que muestra su potencial a pesar de sus problemas médicos.

Canciones para una vida - Ayreon - River Of Time

RIVER OF TIME

Hablemos hoy de un proyecto musical llamado Ayreon, un proyecto centrado en musica progresiva con un toque tanto medieval en algunas obras como futurista en otras y tras el que encontramos a la mente creadora de Arjen Lucassen. Se puede decir que Arjen es el único nexo común en toda su discografía, pues para cada obra se nutre de artistas invitados, de gran nombre y reputación en muchos casos. Arjen es multiinstrumentista y además se encarga de cantar en todas sus obras. La realidad es que su música tiene un punto en el que en no pocas ocasiones te pierdes un poco. Su caracteristica de opera rock hace que los discos sean conceptuales siguiendo una linea argumental en ocasiones demasiado rebuscada y he de confesar que siempre se me hace largo escuchar un disco entero de este compositor, pero cuando da en el clavo, da en el clavo. Ayreon se forma en 1994 y es en 1995 cuando este holandes comienza a editar material bajo este nombre, desde entonces 9 obras de estudio le contemplan más un EP. He querido dejar en el blog un enlace a youtube de la canción River of time, extraido de su octava y penúltima obra de estudio hasta la fecha de esta reseña llamado 01011001, del año 2008, en la que colabora nada menos que con Hansi Kursch de Blind Guardian y Bob Catley de Magnum, todo un lujo en una canción que suena perfecta. Canciones para una vida - Vicious Rumors - Digital Dictator

DIGITAL DICTATOR

Todo un clásico para hoy en nuestro blog, se trata de los Estadounidenses Vicious Rumors con su Digital Dictator. Esta banda se forma a comienzos de los 80 en una zona como la California Bay Area, tan prolífica en aquellos años y de la que salieron también en la misma época grupos como Exodus, Metallica o Death Angel. Vicious Rumors se forma en 1979 y comienza a sacar demos en 1982. Su alma mater, uno de sus fundadores y su único miembro que aun sigue con la banda Geoff Thorpe, comenzó a editar material de estudio en 1985, llevando ya 11 discos hasta el momento de esta reseña, el último de ellos del pasado 2013. Vicious Rumors hacen un power speed metal, que poco a poco ha ido rolando hacia el power sin más en sus últimas obras.Como decía los continuos cambios en su formación han podido contribuir a este leve cambio en su estilo, aunque la mano de Thorpe se ve claramente en su discografía. Hoy he querido traer una canción de su segunda obra de estudio, Digital Dictator,de 1988, del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su tema homónimo, uno de los más populares y aclamados de su discografía. Canciones para una vida - Suidakra - March Of Conquest

MARCH OF CONQUEST

Grupazo Alemán que hace un extraordinario Melodic Death Metal con toques épicos y bastantes momentos instrumentales aproximandose en muchas ocasiones al llamado viking metal en melodia e incluso temática. Con clara influencia céltica no dudan en incluir elementos folk como gaitas, flautas etc para terminar de dar forma a su sonido, siendo uno de los grupos con mayúsculas dentro del género y uno de los que más me agradan. La banda se forma en 1994, bajo el nombre de Gloryfication, y así sacan una demo llamada XIII.  Arkadius Antonik, alma mater del grupo, se encargaba por aquella época de las voces, guitarras y teclados, y de los miembros originales del grupo es el único que permanece aún en la banda hoy en día. En 1995 cambian su nombre a Suidakra, que curiosamente es el nombre de Arkadius dado la vuelta. Desde 1995 en que sacan su demo, han realizado 11 discos de estudio y un EP. Hoy quiero hablaros de lo que hasta la fecha de esta reseña es su última obra de estudio, Eternal Defiance, de 2013, una obra de arte de principio a fin, todo un discazo que hay que escuchar, y de él quiero dejaros un enlace a youtube de su tema March of conquest, un temazo épico de esos que se meten hasta dentro a la primera, y que tararearás su estribillo nada más escucharlo. TUNGUR KNIVUR

Hablar de Jorn Lande es hablar de un músico de reputación internacional que ha colaborado con muchísima gente en esto de la música. Así, además de hablar de sus siete discos de estudio, y de sus dos discos de versiones, bajo su propio nombre, hemos de referirinos a bandas como Vagabond (!994 - 1996), The Snakes (1998), Millennium (2000), ARK (2000 - 2001), Beyond Twilight (2002), o Masterplan con tres obras de estudio (2002 - 2010), así como su banda paralela con Russell Allen, alma mater de Symphony X, como Allen - Lande, con la que ya llevan 4 obras de estudio, la última de ellas salida hace escasamente un mes y que promete mucho, hasta el punto de que muy posiblemente hablemos de ella por este blog. Además colaboraciones tan importantes como Avantasia o Ayreon entre 2008 y 2010. En fin todo un talento este Noruego. Quiero traer al blog una canción que a mi me gusta mucho, de su segunda obra de estudio bajo su nombre, Worldchanger, de 2001. La canción es Tungur Knivur, con un toque muy vikingo, no en vano, se basa en la mitologia noruega. El disco entero Wolrdchanger es bastante bueno, y nos da una buena muestra de lo que es capaz de ofrecer este gran músico noruego, al que volveremos inevitablemente en alguna otra ocasión en este blog. UNDER JOLLY ROGER

Canción antológica de un disco antológico de un grupo igualmente antológico. Es evidente que este grupo nos fascina por estas tierras bloguísticas. Poco que añadir a la reseña anterior a esta banda. Simplemente majestuosos. Quiero acercaros este disco de 1987 que se ha ganado por derecho propio un lugar entre los clásicos. Se trata de la tercera obra de estudio de los alemanes Running Wild, en que dan rienda suelta a su heavy - speed metal pirata y que tiene grandes temas en general haciendo de este cd una obra para tener en cuenta en su conjunto, y en el que se pondrían las bases, junto con su posterior Port Royal de 1988, para crear su sello tan personal, el posterior sonido tan reconocible de Running Wild. Canciones para una vida - Messenger - Pray To Odin

 

PRAY TO ODIN

 

Hoy quiero hablar de un grupo Alemán no demasiado conocido a pesar de llevar muchisimos años funcionando, me refiero a Messenger. Estos chicos comenzaron su andadura musical allá por el año 1990, cuando editan su primera obra de estudio, Titanic Suicide. En total cuentan con 5 obras de estudio más dos EP's, pero de los componentes iniciales tan solo queda uno de los guitarristas, Patrick Deckarm. La banda ha sufrido una evolución a nivel musical, para mi gusto a mejor, hasta alcanzar su punto óptimo en sus tres últimas obras, y es que parece haber habido un renacer a partir de 2003 en que sacan una nueva demo tras llevar ya 2 discos de estudio y un EP a sus espaldas, pero es que los cambios incluidos en la formación parecen haber dado más estabilidad y productividad, asi como calidad al grupo. Tras otro EP en 2005, sacan en 2006 lo que será su tercera obra de estudio, aunque podriamos considerarlo como la primera obra de la segunda etapa, este disco Under The Sign, del que os dejo la canción Pray to Odin, en plan true Metal, con un toque muy chulo que a mi me gusta mucho. Sacarían 5 años después su discazo See You In Hell, que a mi particularmente es el que más me gusta de la banda y del que hablaremos en este blog en otra ocasión. Para terminar su discografía en 2013 sacaron su última obra hasta la fecha de gran nivel también. Como tantos otros grupos, por calidad merecerían mayor reconocimiento estos Messenger, pues calidad tienen sin duda. Dejo un enlace a youtube de su Pray to Odin.

Canciones para una vida - Domine - Icarus Ascending

ICARUS ASCENDING

Domine es un grupo italiano de power metal que se formó en 1983 y que comenzó a sacar material en forma de demos en 1986. Tuvo una larga época de funcionamiento underground, con cuatro demos hasta 1994, una demo cada tres años hasta que en 1997 dan un paso adelante sacando su primer larga duración. Los miembros fundadores, los hermanos Riccardo y Enrico Paoli al bajo y la guitarra, Carlo funaioli a la bateria sustituyen a Stefano Mazella en funciones vocales por Morby, y con ello dotaron a la banda con una seña de identidad inconfundible, pues se trata de un vocalista extraordinario. Su primer disco resulta bastante flojillo pero sirve para ver su potencial, que confirman en su segunda obra Dragonlord (Tales of the noble steel), de 1999 que tiene gran acogida entre el público, que les proporciona la posibilidad de girar por Europa llegando a tocar con bandas como Running Wild o Grave Digger. En total Domine han editado 5 obras de estudio y aunque se supone que siguen en activo, desde 2007 no han dado señales de vida a nivel compositivo. Quiero dejar en el blog una canción de su cuarta obra, emperor of the black runes, de 2004, uno de sus discos que más me gustan, se trata de una obra muy buena en general y de ella dejaré un enlace a youtube de su tema Icarus Ascending. Domine es un grupo con cierto paralelísmo a Rhapsody, aunque su música tiene un corte más clásico, menos apoyado en los teclados y arreglos orquestales y creo que merecen más repercusión de la que tienen por su innegable calidad.

Canciones para una vida - Pink Cream 69 - Keep Your Eye On The Twisted

KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE TWISTED

Ya nos hemos referido a Pink Cream 69 anteriormente en este blog y lo volveremos a hacer  puesto que su discografía da para varias referencias. De nuevo quiero hablar de la primera época de esta fenomenal banda alemana, cuando Andi Deris se encargaba de cantar, antes justo de marcharse a Helloween. Como digo este es el último disco con Deris a la voz, del año 1993, y que resulta ser un disco extraordinario, es uno de esos que merece la pena tener original puesto en tu estantería. El resto de la formación son Dennins Ward, al bajo, Kosta Zafiriou a la bateria, y Alfred Koffler en la guitarra, junto al citado Andi Deris, el grupo original que fundo la banda en 1987. Canciones para una vida - Thaurorod - Warrior's Heart

WARRIOR'S  HEART

La inacabable cantera finlandesa no deja de producir buenos grupos, un ejemplo más son Thaurorod, grupo que debe su nombre a la lengua Quenya, lengua mitológica, también llamada alto élfico o lengua de los elfos de Valinor, sacada de la mente de Tolkien y en la que Thaurorod significa Montaña del mal. Eso ya nos puede servir para ver por donde pueden ir los tiros musicales de esta banda, con un power metal basado en fantasía, con algunos pasajes instrumentales y un cierto toque épico. Thaurorod se forma en 2002 en Jokela, Finlandia, funcionando en el mundillo underground con 3 demos de 2005, 6, y 7, hasta que en 2010 sacan su primer disco de estudio, este Upon a haunted Battlefield. En este disco el vocalista es Markku Kuikka, actualmente en funciones vocales con Kenziner, que aparece solo en esta obra de Thaurorod pues sería sustituido por Andi Kravljaca, de un nivel vocal superior, y de cierta fama por su labor en Silent Call o Seventh Wonder. Sin embargo, a nivel compositivo, el siguiente y último disco de Thaurorod, Anteinferno, de 2013, me parece bastante peor que su primera obra. Quiero pues dejar un enlace a youtube de una canción de su primer disco, llamada Warrior's Heart, un tema que enseña el potencial que atesoran estos chicos.

Canciones para una vida - Ensiferum - Dragonheads

DRAGONHEADS

Ya hemos hablado de esta gran banda en nuestro blog, y volveremos a hacerlo puesto que su obra da para mencionar más de una canción y más de un disco, pues como ya dije es uno de mis grupos preferidos. Formados en 1995, funcionaron con demos hasta 2001 en que sacan su primer larga duración. Los dos primeros discos de estudio tenian al genial Jari Maempaa a la voz, (Ensiferum de 2001 y Iron de 2004), momento en que deja la banda para crear la también magnifica Wintersun, de la que hablaremos aquí. A partir de 2004 , Ensiferum se hace con lor servicios de Petri Lidroos, que realizaba esa función en Norther, al que también haremos referencia en este blog. La primera obra con Petri Lidroos a la voz con Ensiferum es este EP, Dragonheads, con seis canciones, todas recomendables, como toda su obra para mi, y de la que quiero dejar un enlace al tema homónimo al EP, Dragonheads, una gozada para los oidos, al más puro estilo Ensiferum. A LAST REGRET

Skiltron es un grupo argentino que hace un celtic folk power metal, aderezado con instrumentos tradicionales como gaitas y otros por el estilo. Sus letras están escritas en inglés y eso, junto con la calidad compositiva y su estilo de corte muy europeo les ha proporcionado un cierto éxito internacional merecido. Esta banda comenzó su andadura musical en 1997, cuando Emilio Souto y Matias Pena crearon la banda bajo el nombre de Century, nombre con el que funcionarían hasta 2004 en que ante la perspectiva de una mayor proyección y reestructuración en la banda cambian a Skiltron. Ya bajo el nuevo nombre comienzan a editar material en 2004 con su demo y en 2006 con su primer larga duración. Desde entonces han editado 4 discos de estudio. En 2011 tras la edición de su tercera obra, este The highland way, de 2010, cuatro miembros de Skiltron dejan la formación para crear un proyecto similar llamado Triddana, del que hablaremos en este blog. Quiero dejar un enlace , como digo de su tercer disco de estudio de 2010, The highland Way, de la canción A Last Regret, un buen tema que puede sin duda dar una buena idea de como suenan estos chicos si aún no los conoces.

Canciones para una vida - TYR - Hold The Heathen Hammer High

HOLD THE HEATHEN HAMMER HIGH

TYR es un grupo creado en las Islas Feroe, un pequeño archipiélago situado entre Escocia, Noruega e Islandia, independizado de Dinamarca y con apenas 50.000 habitantes. Comienzan su andadura musical como banda en 1998 y suelen utilizar varios idiomas en sus canciones, como el Feroés, el danés o el inglés. Heri Joensen y Kari Streymoy deciden fundar la banda en Copenhague, adoptando el nombre de TYR procedente del dios de la guerra de la mitología nórdica. En un principio su música esta influida por la música tradicional Feroesa para poco a poco y sin dejar sus raices van girando hacia el viking metal con un toque progresivo, pero con una importante base de power metal que se hace más patente en los dos últimos discos de estudio. Hasta la fecha de esta reseña han editado 7 obras, la primera de ellas de 2002, y la última del año pasado. Quiero recomendar hoy su quinta obra de estudio, este by the light of the northern star, de 2009, un disco muy completo y posiblemente una de sus mejores obras de la que os dejo un enlace a youtube al tema Hold the heathen hammer high, uno de sus himnos más aclamados. Volveremos a TYR más adelante para hablar de algún otro tema.

Canciones para una vida - Blind Guardian - Bright Eyes

BRIGHT EYES

Ya hemos hablado antes de Blind Guardian en este blog, y en general poco hay que decir que ya no se sepa de esta extraordinaria banda alemana, tan solo una breve referencia a su largo historial musical. Blind Guardian se formó en 1984 en Alemania, bajo el nombre de Lucifer's Heritage, con el que funcionaron hasta 1986, en que cambian a Blind Guardian. Los miembros fundadores fueron Hansi Kursch y Andre Olbrich, incorporándose al poco tiempo Thomen Stauch y Marcus Siepen. De ellos solo Thomen Stauch ha dejado la banda en 2005. Algunos otros músicos han pasado por el grupo y grandes colaboraciones como la de Kai Hansen, pero en general Blind Guardian han tenido mucha estabilidad en su formación. Influenciados por la literatura, (sobre todo Tolkien y Stephen King) y el cine, sus letras hacen referencia a esos temas y en ocasiones ayudan a la linea argumental de canciones de la banda o incluso de discos enteros. Tienen 9 discos de estudio, a cual mejor, lo que les ha creado un nombre entre los grupos internacionales más respetados dentro de nuestro mundillo. Quiero hoy hacer referencia a uno de sus mejores discos a mi entender, el Imaginations from the other side, de 1995, con unos Blind Guardian ya en su cenit, y en plena forma, un disco con temas memorables en esta su quinta obra de estudio, de la que pueden destacarse todos y cada uno de los temas, aunque por recomendar solo uno dejare un enlace a youtube de su Bright Eyes, un tema increíble.

Canciones para una vida - Iron Savior - Watcher In The Sky

WATCHER IN THE SKY

Hablar de Iron Savior es hablar de músicos y bandas legendarias como Helloween. Formados en 1996 por Piet Sielk y Kai Hansen, Iron Savior es una banda que surgió porque parece que ese era su destino, y me explico. Kai Hansen y Piet Sielk se conocian tiempo atrás, en los inicios de sus carreras musicales pues ambos militaban en el grupo Gentry, que cambiaría su nombre a Second Hell más adelante, el los tiempos pre - Helloween. Con ellos tocaban Markus Grosskopf al bajo e Ingo Schwitchtenberg a la bateria, la formación inicial de Helloween casi al completo. Al formarse Helloween Piet deja la banda y durante unos años se dedica a funciones de técnico de sonido. Durante esos primeros años en Gentry y Second Hell se crearon algunas de las canciones para Helloween de los primeros años, sobre todo del walls of Jericho, así como algún tema que seria utilizado por Kai Hansen en su primer disco con Gamma Ray tras su salida de Helloween, como la canción Heading for tomorrow. Kai y Piet siguieron caminos separados hasta que en 1996 crean Iron Savior, invitando al batería Thomen Stauch de Blind Guardian asi como con colaboraciones de Hansi Kursch. La banda sigue una linea argumental de ciencia ficción que utilizarán conceptualmente en los primeros discos. Kai Hansen que se encarga de las funciones vocales principales, permanecerá en la banda hasta 2001, hasta su tercer disco Dark Assault, tras el que dejará a Piet liderando el grupo, y encargandose de la parte vocal, siendo hoy en día el único miembro fundador que queda, y el único que ha estado de forma constante. Iron Savior ha sacado 8 discos de estudio y 2 EP's hasta la fecha de esta reseña de un fantástico power metal de corte alemán. Quiero recomendar su primer disco, homónimo a la banda, y del que recomiendo escucharlo entero, pues se trata de una obra increible, aunque por destacar un tema recomendaré este Watcher in the Sky, que aparece en el disco de Gamma Ray Somewhere out in space, también de 1997 y que curiosamente aparece en ambas bandas pues fue compuesto por los dos músicos, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
