CARRY  ON

Otra banda de nueva creación, con la vista puesta en el concepto clásico de heavy metal pero como digo formados en 2024, son los Serbio croata británicos "Power Surge", una banda internacional que en este 2025 ha publicado el pasado 2 de mayo su debut "Shadows Warning". De momento está claro que no es uno de esos grupos que vayan a revolucionar nada, pero hacen su propuesta que gustará a todos los seguidores de los conceptos clásicos. De su primer LP dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Carry On", una versión de la banda Warriors para la que cuentan con la colaboración en voces y guitarra de la banda serbia Claymorean, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Stratovarius - Will The Sun Rise - Canciones Para Una Vida

WILL  THE  SUN  RISE

Vamos con una obra clásica de una banda de las también clásicas dentro del power, se trata de los finlandeses Stratovarius y su "Episode", a mi parecer uno de sus mejores discos que sin duda alguna forman parte de la banda sonora de mi vida. Corría el año 1996, el heavy metal se había diversificado y como tal casi extinguido en su vertiente más clásica, y esos primeros años de los 90 sobre todo el power metal vino a llenar ese hueco compositivo en muchos metalheads, para ese año 1996, Stratovarius ya se había hecho con un nombre que con esta obra terminaría de encumbrar para hacerse una de las cabezas visibles del por entonces aún incipiente euro power caracterizado por esa cuidada producción y todos los demás atributos que nunca ha dejado de tener. De esta obra puede destacarse casi todo, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus singles más icónicos, "Will the sun rise", temazo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Segundo adelanto del quinto LP de estudio de la banda internacional Warkings, un proyecto cada vez menos proyecto y cada vez más estable como banda a tiempo completo como queda patente en estos siete años de actividad. Battle Beast - Last Goodbye - Canciones Para Una Vida

LAST  GOODBYE

Otra de las grandes bandas actuales mueve ficha en estos días presentando un nuevo single que puede ser el preludio de un nuevo album del que todavía no tengo noticia, se trata de los finlandeses Battle Beast y de su single "Last Goodbye", una vez más un tema con el sello de la banda que parece haber encontrado la senda del éxito y han decidido continuar por ella sin torcerse en su propuesta, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

John Norum - Love Is Meant (To Last Forever) - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

LOVE  IS  MEANT  (TO  LAS  FOREVER)

Hablemos ahora de otra de esas circunstacias que en esto de la música, (más acusadamente si cabe dentro del mundillo heavy), ocurren con frecuencia, en ocasiones para bien y en otras no tanto, que es el hecho de relacionar a un nombre con otro (en este caso John Norum y la banda Europe), lo que injustamente lastra digamos al más vulnerable de los dos para el resto de su existencia.En este caso el enorme nombre de Europe, sobre todo en los ochenta, arrastraba por completo todo lo demás que pudiese nacer a su alrededor, como la carrera en solitario de John Norum, quien haciendo una apuesta más guitarrera era siempre tildado como el guitarrista de Europe, grupo dentro del heavy metal en general menospreciado por muchos, sobre todo publicamente, a pesar de la calidad de la banda, pero el éxito que en este caso concreto fue más allá de los géneros musicales, fue global, no era algo que un metalhead de la época pudiera asumir de buen grado, y el bueno de John Norum pudo pagar ese peaje, incluso a pesar de la calidad de su trabajo en solitario. Ocho discos de estudio conforman su discografía a fecha de esta reseña, y mirando hacia atrás quiero hoy rescatar su debut en solitario, "Total control" de 1987, sacado solo un año después del celebre "The final countdown" de Europe, lo que agudizó más el argumentario de más arriba. A pesar de todo se juntá en lo vocal nada menos que con Goran Edman, cantante con mayúsculas para parir una obra mucho más que interesante con temas como este "Love Is Meant (To last forever)" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Malice - Against The Empire - Canciones Para Una Vida

AGAINST  THE  EMPIRE

Vamos con otra de esas historias de la segunda fila del heavy metal, una de las que a juzgar por los méritos y potencial podrían sin duda haber formado parte de la primera división de las bandas internacionales, pero siempre hay, ha habido y habrá factores más allá de lo estrictamente musical que marcan a las bandas más incluso que lo musical, una vez más una pena. Este es el caso de los estadounidenses Malice, la enésima banda ochentera ahogada en el maremagnum de grupos que abarrotaban la escena musical de la época, la historia una vez más de lo que pudo ser y se quedó solo en una fracción. Malice comienza su andadura en 1980 y es otro de esos grupos que lo intentó en varias épocas y con varios nombres para terminar dejando auténticas perlas pero una carrera prematuramente terminada. En 1985 sacan su debut "In the beginnig", enrome disco de presentación del que ya he dejado algún tema en el blog, al que seguiría este "Licence to kill" en 1987, y del que hoy quiero dejar un tema, digno sucesor y en algunos aspectos superior, como en cuestiones productivas. Con él alcanzarían mayores cotas de popularidad que les llevaría a girar por Europa, atendiendo a la circunstancia de que se equivocaron quizá de banda con la que girar ya que su estilo no se correspondía al thrash agresivo y extremo de sus teloneados, Slayer, y el público reunido en el evento no asumió el hecho con buenos ojos, injustisimamente para Malice. En 1989 editan un EP mucho más hard 'n heavy lo que será el remate de la banda. Luego cambios de nombre, una reactivación en 2006 que duraría 10 años y que dejaría como fruto un tercer LP en 2012 con guitarrista y bajista como únicos miembros originales de la banda. En definitiva, otra historia de lo que pudo ser pero no fue. Dejo hoy en el blog el tema "Against the empire" de su segundo album, "Licence to kill", nadie puede negar el potencial para haber llegado bien alto.

Strega - Stryx Strega Stregae - Canciones Para Una Vida

STRYX  STREGA  STREGAE

Nuevo proyecto musical creado en este mismo 2025, de músicos italianos procedentes de tres bandas bastante desconocidas a nivel global y que el pasado 30 de abril publicaron su primer material de estudio, el EP "Stryx Strega Stregae", se trata de Strega, una propuesta en clave de heavy metal pero con un aire oscuro, una producción que buscada o no te retrotrae a la década de los ochenta, y una propuesta que ha buscado un argumentario propio, incluyendo unas letras en una lengua supuestamente inventada por la banda. El caso es que pueden ser elemento que bien planteados les auguren un futuro prometedor. De momento, en sus primeros pasos muestran buenas maneras como por ejemplo en el tema que da nombre al EP, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Angel Sword - Night Rider - Canciones Para Una Vida

NIGHT  RIDER 

Los finlandeses Angel Sword se sumaron desde el inicio de su carrera a la fórmula clásica del heavy metal de la old school, ese nuevo viejo heavy metal que ha repuntado desde hace más de una década a nivel global. Formados en 2010 llevan,a fecha de esta reseña, tres LP's de estudio más dos EP's para abrir boca en su carrera. Manowar - Defender - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

DEFENDER

Vuelta a los guerreros americanos Manowar para repasar una vez más una de sus grandes obras, "Fighting the world" de 1987, una obra tan breve como buena, poco más de media hora para mostrar al planeta metálico su concepto del true metal después tantas veces imitado. La banda no dejaba de crecer y tras su fulgurante comienzo, (que ya quisiéramos ver ahora, un disco o más por año), en 1987 llegaba su quinto LP donde trataban de alcanzar un escalón más en lo que a impacto global se refiere. El disco es imponente desde el principio al final y a medida que avanza, las canciones se van tornando más épicas, quizá menos "singles" pero demoledoramente épicas, y el tema "Defender", cocinado a medio gas, es ese punto de inflexión en el disco, tema que cuenta con la introducción de Orson Welles, y que después gana potencia y derrocha, en general, la citada épica, una canción fundamental de la que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Skyforger - Velnakmens - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

VELNAKMENS

Toda una década ha pasado desde la salida de su anterior trabajo de estudio allá por 2015, se trata de los letones Skyforger y su séptimo LP de estudio "Teikas" cuya salida oficial ha sucedido este 1 de mayo. Quienes conozcan a la banda ya saben que aquí encontramos un sonido a medio camino del balck metal y el folk nórdico y a juzgar por las primeras escuchas de la obra no han cambiado su planteamiento tras esa década de silencio. Black Majesty - Dragon Lord - Canciones Para Una Vida

DRAGON  LORD 

Otra banda más que ha estado siempre haciendo las cosas mucho mejor que lo que su reconocimiento general indica, ya que aún son una banda bastante anónima a pesar de que estos australianos llevan en activo desde 2001 y han publicado ocho albumes de estudio desde sus incios si incluimos este "Oceans of black" cuya salida oficial se espera para el 20 de junio y del que va desgranandose ya su primera adelanto. Hablamos de power metal, en su vertiente europower, con la mayoría de elementos esperables en ese contexto compositivo, y su nueva obra llega tras siete años de silencio compositivo. El citado adelanto de la nueva obra lleva por título "Dragon Lord" y de él dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube de su lyric video oficial.

Nuevo single de los finlandeses Beast In Black, quienes el pasado 2024 editaron un EP con un tema nuevo y tres canciones viejas más en directo, y quien sabe si ahora se trata del preludio de un disco nuevo el que sería ya el cuarto de la banda y que por tiempo ya les va tocando. Sabaton - Templars - Canciones Para Una Vida

Va llegando el momento también para esta banda, atendiendo a su ciclo compositivo de aproximadamente una obra cada tres años, de publicar un album nuevo, y el hecho de este nuevo single "Templars" hace pensar que eso puede ser así. El último LP publicado "The war to end all wars" data de 2022 y aunque entre medias han publicado tres EP's y un disco en vivo, lo que podría variar el citado ciclo, esperemos que en breve tengamos noticias de un nuevo album que contenga entre otros temas este "Templars" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Tyranny - Manipulator - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

MANIPULATOR

Vairas han sido las bandas que han escogido el nombre de Tyranny para desarrollar su carrera, y varias de ellas además procedían de Estados Unidos, hoy quiero rescatar a una de ellas, una de las estadounidenses, la californiana activas desde 1983 hasta finales de los ochenta y que después se reactivaría a comienzos de los 2000 para en teoría permanecer en activo hasta hoy, eso si, solo tres LP's dan forma a su discografía, uno en su primera época "Manipulator" de 1987, y dos en la segunda, (2007 y 2012) por lo que si es cierto que siguen en activo llevan ya trece años sin dar señales de vida compositiva. Volviendo a su primer periodo, en 1987 editaban "Manipulator" en una clave de heavy metal - hard 'n heavy, ese sonido tan característico de esos años, y de ese citado LP quiero dejar hoy en el blog el tema que le daba nombre y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
