SABBATH  BLOODY  SABBATH

Para 1973, los británicos Black Sabbath ya habían editado cinco LP's de estudio, "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" era el quinto de ellos del citado año, e igualmente para muchos habían puesto las bases para la llegada de lo que vendría en denominarse como Heavy Metal. La verdad es que adjudicar el mérito de todo un sonido a una única banda me ha resultado siempre algo demasaido aventurado, pero de lo que no hay duda alguna es de lo fundamental de esta banda para explicar lo que vendría, sin duda fueron ejemplo para muchos. "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" hablaba compositivamente de una banda muy consolidada ya, muy importante por el éxito cosechado hasta la fecha, y para el que cambiaron de aires a la hora de componerlo, como buscando un nuevo retiro, en este caso a Gales y uno de sus castillos para encontrar la inspiración, desde luego les salio redonda la jugada pues la obra contiene clásicos del grupo y del rock como este "Sabbath bloody sabbath" que da nombre a la obra y del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Raging Fate - Blood Red Sky

BLOOD  RED  SKY

Que puedo decir, si una banda sueca, (con el respeto que a priori me causa esa escena), se dedica a un sonido heavy power de corte europeo, (con el tirón que ese tipo de sonido tiene para mi), y además tiene el espejo en el que mirarse en un sonido a lo Running Wild, (sin duda una de mis bandas), pues eso, que me tiene ganado. En este 2025, Raging Fate ha editado su tercer LP "Munity" (11 de enero), para deleite de aquellos que como yo gusten de las premisas musicales antes expuestas, buen ejemplo de ello el tema "Blood red sky" perteneciente a este "Munity" y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Unicorn - The Last Command

THE  LAST  COMMAND

Estamos ante el típico ejemplo de banda con potencial, en la década de los ochenta, en este caso en la escuela alemana, y una de esas que llegaba tarde al sonido en el que intentaba desarrollar su carrera, ya que hablamos de la segunda parte de la citada década y del heavy metal de concepción clásica, una vez más una lástima ya que la promesa de una carrera estaba ahí. Formados en 1986 bajo el nombre de Headhunter, bajo el que deitan un par de demos, cambian a Unicorn para dejarnos su único EP en 1987. Se trata por lo tanto de otra de esas bandas que quedaron en el camino demasiado pronto, antes de saber si realmente habrían podido llegar a mucha gente. Canciones para una vida - Sacred - Caught In A Snowstorm

CAUGHT  IN  A  SNOWSTORM

Otra banda sueca que nace, desde un punto de vista de publicación de LP's, en este 2025, son Sacred, formados en 2019 y que solo habían publicado un par de singles en 2020 y 2024, y que como digo en este 2025 editan su primer larga duración "Fire to ice", con todos los ingredientes esperables dentro de una banda de power metal sueca, calidad, producción, y filo en los temas, prometiendo a través de su debut un futuro próximo brillante, sin descubrir nada nuevo eso sí, pero con una innegable capacidad para llegar de lleno al oyente amante de ese estilo, como queda patente por ejemplo en "Caught in a snowstorm", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

SIN  CITY

Para el año 1978, los australianos editaban ya su quinto LP de estudio, "Powerage", para el que estrenaban bajista, (Cliff Williams tras la salida de Mark Evans), y a estas alturas la banda era ya conocida, respetada y seguida a un nivel bastante internacional. Una vez más hablamos de ventas millonarias, pero es que estamos ante una de las bandas que más han vendido, solo en Estados Unidos alcanzaron también con esta obra la certificación de disco de platino por vender más de un millón de copias de este "Powerage", que cuenta con grandes canciones como "Sin City" de la que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Judas Priest - Sinner

 

SINNER

No por mucho repetirlo va a ser menos evidente, Judas Priest son una de esas piezas clave en lo que se llama heavy metal,y además deben ser considerados como uno de los pioneros entre los pioneros en el impulso de ese sonido recien nacido en los inicios de la banda, o incluso inexistente como tal. Para 1977 Judas grababa su ya tercer album de estudio, y un disco que destila heavy metal como ninguno otro hasta esa fecha lo había hecho. Después muchas bandas seguirían esa senda, que en solo un lustro desde la publicación de este album sería norma en la escena internacional, el heavy metal estaba aquí. FIRE'S  ON

2025 es el testigo del debut musical de los españoles Sinner Rage, otra banda más que se contagia de esa tendencia global de mirar hacia el sonido clásico de la vieja escuela, heavy metal clásico sin adornos, voz, guitarra, bajo y percusión en este caso en un concepto también un poco hard n' heavy, sin duda por encima de todo de regusto clásico. También la escena alemana mostraba su inquietud por contribuir al heavy primigenio, al sonido que estaba evolucionando y creciendo alimentado por bandas grandes y otras no tanto, como fue el caso de Arktis, un grupo que apenas salió de la escena underground de su país, funcionando a base de demos y poco material publicado en formato EP, como "On the rocks", que recogía seis temas de las demos iniciales del grupo, hablamos de la primera mitad de los setenta sobre todo, material valiente para la época, que mostraba una base novedosa para aquel entonces y se nota hacia donde evolusionaría el sonido general de este tipo de gupos, el heavy metal como tal estaba dando sus primeros pasos y pronto estallaría a nivel planetario. PIRATES  BLOODY  PIRATES

Los finlandeses enmascarados Dragonknight siguen adelante con la presentación de la banda en sociedad a través de otro de sus adelantos, "Pirates Bloody Pirates", en el que muestran un mimetismo compositivo con Running Wild, (algo podíamos sospechar solo con el título de la canción), pero lo que demuestra la banda con este segundo adelanto es su versatilidad, que si se perpetua será un gran punto a favor de la banda en estos tiempos de semejante volumen de grupos en la escena internacional. Canciones para una vida - Buffalo - Sunrise (Come My Way)

SUNRISE  (COME  MY  WAY)

Si pensamos en bandas pioneras de origen australiano es obligatorio e inevitable acordarse de AC/DC, una de las más famosas bandas del rock en general, pero en los primeros pasos del heavy metal en Australia no solo ellos estaban dando el callo, como en todas partes hubo más bandas que pusieron su granito de arena a la escena propia y a la general, y en Australia "Buffalo" desarrollaron desde muy temprano su propia carrera partiendo del hard rock y endureciendolo hacia el heavy metal en una suerte de hard 'n heavy. Formados en 1971 de las cenizas de "Head" entre el 68 y el 71, y su carrera solo se prolongaría hasta 1977 dejando en el camino cinco LP's de estudio. El segundo de ellos, "Volcanic rock", editado en 1973, presentaba grandes temas como este "Sunrise (Come my way)" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

 A  BETTER  WORLD

Vamos con un poco de Thrash encarnado en la banda Estadounidense Warbringer, un grupo que lleva muchos años ya haciendo las cosas bien, (formados en 2004) y que llevaba ya, hasta este 2025 un lustro sin sacar material nuevo. "Wrath and ruin" será su séptimo LP de estudio y verá la luz de forma oficial el 14 de marzo, hasta entonces han empezado a dejarnos su primer aperitivo en forma de single, "A better world", del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial. Por cierto, la portada a cargo de Andreas Marschall, (este tío debería hacerle la portada a todas las bandas, es insuperable).

Canciones para una vida - Dark Ages - Dark Ages

DARK  AGES

Otra banda desconocida, los italianos Dark Ages, de esas que han pasado de puntillas por la escena internacional a pesar de llevar largo tiempo de actividad, repartida eso sí en dos periodos diferentes y separados por 20 años, de 1982 a 1991, con actividad underground y un solo LP editado, "Saturnalia" de 1991, en una clave de heavy metal de corte clásico, y el periodo desde 2011 hasta la actualidad, con cuatro LP's más editados, en este caso con una orientación más progresiva. Volviendo a su primer material, encontramos en "Saturnalia" una interesante obra, con ese aire de heavy metal que por otra parte parecía dejar intuir el aire progresivo que posteriormente cogería la banda, y no deja de encontrarse un cierto aire oscurillo, con cantante femenina, haciendo de la mezcla heterogénea algo como mínimo particular e interesante, como por ejemplo se muestra en el tema "Dark Ages" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Steel Rath - Fury Road

 

FURY  ROAD

Brasil es una de esas escenas musicales indudablemente prolífica, desde luego no siempre encuentra uno entre tanta cantidad la calidad en cada ocasión, pero si aumentan las posibilidades de hacerlo matematicamente hablando cuanto mayor es el número de elementos, y en Brasil hay muchos. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de la banda Steel Rath, banda que gusta de ese estilo clásico, heavy metal de la vieja escuela, marcado por las melodías de guitarra, con una ejecución más que correcta que sin deslumbrar en ningún puesto si que conforman un conjunto que ha de ser del gusto de los amantes del sonido de la vieja escuela. En 2023 editaban su segundo LP "Prayers of war" del que hoy dejo en el blog su canción "Fury Road" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Vicious Rumors - Worlds And Machines

WORLDS  AND  MACHINES

Muchas son las canciones que puede uno destacar de esta obra, no solo para mí, el momento cumbre en la discografía de los estadounidenses Vicious Rumors, y esto lo considero así, por el momento de la banda y el momento del heavy metal como conjunto, era el momento de sacar una obra como esta, y era la formación prefecta de la banda para hacerlo, de hecho, en este disco se juntan y durante ocho años no cambian nada, solo la muerte del cantante Carl Albert cambiaría ese punto. El caso es que estamos ante un clásico, uno de esos discos que marcan a una banda como creadora de la obra, y a muchas otras como espejo en el que mirarse, "Digital Dictator" de 1988 merece el aura de obra de culto que ahora ostenta, y casi escogiendo cualquier tema puede quedar claro, hoy yo me he encaprichado de este "Worlds and machines" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
