LOVEHUNTER

Para finales de los setenta, tras su paso por Deep Purple entre 1973 y 1976, David Coverdale, fundador de Whitesnake en 1978, decide buscar su propia banda, más influenciada por el hard rock e incluso en ocasiones el blues, un grupo que reunió a grandes nombres como Micky Moody y Bernie Marsden a la guitarra, Neil Murray al bajo, Peter Solley a los teclados que en seguida sería sustituido por Jon Lord, (también ex de los Purple), o Dave Dowle a la batería que pronto sería sustituido por Ian Paice, sea como sea el baile de nombres es lo suficientemente importante como para que no debiera sorprenderse nadie de las cotas de éxito que alcanzaría la banda. Como decía, en 1979 la banda graba su segundo LP de estudio, "Lovehunter", que sería el disco que daría a la banda un escalon ya importante de reconocimiento a través del éxito en las listas de ventas británicas, alcanzando en ellas por vez primera el top 30. CREEPSHOW

Tobias Sammet, centrado ya por completo desde hace mucho, dejando en el limbo a Edguy, se ha transformado en una de esas figuras importantes dentro de nuestro mundillo, uno de esos músicos que además, por la naturaleza de Avantasia, ha establecido prósperas relaciones con enormes músicos internacionales lo que a su vez ha agrandado aún más su propia figura, es por tanto uno de esos nombres ante los que todas las miradas apuntan cada vez que hace un movimiento compositivo, y en esas estamos, en el inminente 2025 editará de forma oficial su décimo ya LP de estudio, "Here be dragons", del que en estos días ha dejado su primer adelanto, "Creepshow" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Death SS - Murder Angels

MURDER  ANGELS

Vamos con otra banda pionera, otra que demuestra que el inicio  de nuestro sonido actual fue mucho más global que las consabidas escenas británica y estadounidense, aunque en lo que todos estamos de acuerdo es que el vloumen inmenso de grupos se centraba sobre todo en las dos citadas naciones en los comienzos, había bandas experimentando, abriendo senderos en los lugares más variopintos, hoy, a través de Death SS nos referiremos a la escena italiana, con un sonido incipiente de heavy metal doom metal de aire absolutamente oscuro, sin duda adelantados a su época en este concepto, Death SS son un grupo que ha tenido una carrera larga (desde 1977 hasta la actualidad), aunque irregular (repartida en no menos de cinco épocas diferentes, una de ellas con cambio de nombre incluido "Sylvester's Death"), para terminar editando, a fecha de esta reseña, un total de 10 LP`s de estudio a los que añadir otros cuatro trabajos en formato EP. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog algo de su primera época tan underground, compuesto antes de los 80 aunque recopilado posteriormente en 1987 bajo el nombre de "1977 - 1984", concretamente la canción de 1979 "Murder Angels" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Eluveitie - Premonition

 

PREMONITION

Desde 2019 los suizos Eluveitie no sacan nuevo material en formato LP, apenas un par de singles nos han servido en este lustro para intuir que la banda sigue en activo, un grupo, Eluveitie, que parece haber dejado atrás su mejor momento, parece haber sufrido un profunda crisis en su línea compositiva, con la ida de miembros pero al mismo tiempo el tesón para seguir editando obras (ocho hasta la fecha de esta reseña), que esperemos que se vean aumentadas en breve. Por el momento este 2024 acaba de ser testigo de su nuevo single "Premonition" que esperemos sea la premonición de un nuevo LP, que a juzgar por el sonido del mismo, podría augurar un buen retorno de la banda. Canciones para una vida - Bow Wow - Silver Lightning

SILVER  LIGHTNING

La evolución del sonido setentero, del rock al hard rock y a algo más llegó a muchos rincones del planeta, a muchos más de los que las teorías o las miradas no suficientemente curiosas pudieran llegar a mostrar, una de esas escenas más inesperadas en la época fue la japonesa a través por ejemplo de la banda "Bow Wow", un grupo formado en 1975 y que desde entonces ha desarrollado su carrera hasta el presente, grabando 25 LP's de estudio. Sin haber llegado nunca a la cima internacional, su sonido es sin embargo interesante y recomendable, en esa línea difusa que separa el hard rock del heavy metal, y además tienen ese añadido que suelen tener los grupos pioneros como lo fueron estos en la escena de su Japón natal y en esa zona del Oriente en general. Su primer LP en inglés fue "Signal Fire" de 1977, y de dicha obra quiero hoy dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, "Silver Lightning", una canción que deja claro que formaron parte de las bandas pioneras del heavy metal, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

SUNRAVEN

Los suecos Grand Magus han editado en este 2024 su décimo LP de estudio "Sunraven" tras todo un lustro de silencio compositivo en una obra que quizá nos muestra una perspectiva más melódica de lo que es la media tradicional en las obras de la banda, pero que sigue contando con su esperada y esperable dosis de oscurete doom metal, vamos, que su sonido resulta ser muy reconocible para celebración de sus seguidores y en definitiva para los amantes del heavy metal de corte clásico. Canciones para una vida - Ultra - Mutants

 

MUTANTS

Ultra es otro de esos ejemplos de bandas desconocidas, en este caso concreto en la década de los setenta, así que estamos en ese momento en el que, bebiendo de muchas fuentes, el sonido heavy estaba en plena formación, consolidación y evolución, y muchas bandas conocidas y desconocidas se apuntaban a ese caldo de cultivo que después estallaría a nivel mundial llamado Heavy Metal. El caso es que como decía más arriba, muchas de esas bandas apenas llegaban a asomar la cabeza antes de hundirse en el olvido, y esto "Ultra", canadienses, fueron uno de esos grupos. Procedentes del grupo "Homer", alguno de sus integrantes se separan y dan lugar a este grupo, y en 1977 editarán su album homónimo "Ultra", del que quiero dejar hoy en el blog una de sus canciones, con un sonido orientado hacia el hard rock, a veces algo más contundente, otras veces algo más blues y southern, la canción mencionada para hoy es "Mutants" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

CHOKEHOLD

Fieles a la cita con los estudios cada tres o cuatro años, la banda-proyecto internacional The Ferrymen, editará de forma oficial el próximo 24 de enero de 2025 su cuarto trabajo de estudio que llevará por título "Iron Will". Estamos ante uno de esos proyectos que uno agradece que se cronifiquen, que se terminen perpetuando como no debería ser de otra manera a juzgar por la calidad contrastada de los miembros que lo componen, Magnus Karlsson a la guitarra bajo y teclados además de llevar el peso compositivo, Mike Terrana a la batería y Ronnie Romero a la voz. Como desde el comienzo, ese aire progresivo característico se ve reflejado en los primeros detalles de la obra que nos van llegando poco a poco, como es el caso de la canción "Choke Hold" que abrirá el disco y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

TEMPLE  OF  SET

Vamos con otra de esas bandas que apenas dejaron una pequeña muestra de su capacidad, hablamos de la década de los ochenta y del marco sonoro del heavy metal, y, seguramente ese dato sea clave para saber el motivo de su corta existencia, ya que hablamos de la parte final de la década de los ochenta que como todos sabemos desembocaría en una negación casi generalizada del sonido heavy clásico de la vieja escuela, todo evolucionaba y los estadounidenses Street Child, que así se llama la banda a la que hoy hago referencia, llegaban tarde a la fiesta a pesar de su buena predisposición compositiva, (si la hubieran desarrollado unos años antes), el caso es que solo dejarían un trabajo grabado, en este caso en formato EP, "Street Child" de 1989, cuatro temas de entre los que dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Temple of Set" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Rüsty Diamönds - Fear Of Death

FEAR  OF  DEATH

Más material nuevo enfocado al sonido clásico, en esta ocasión procedente de la escena austriaca a través de la banda Rüsty Diamönds, formados en 2020 y que a fecha de esta reseña han editado tan solo un par de trabajos en formato EP "Rusty Diamonds" en 2021 y "Stormbringer" de este 2024. Como digo encontramos en sus composiciones un innegable aroma ochentero de heavy metal sin adornos, sonido adornado con coros poderosos siempre compatibles con ese heavy metal de la old school. Canciones para una vida - Tzimani - We Stand And Fight

WE  STAND  AND  FIGHT

La banda estadounidense Tzimani, editó el pasado 15 de noviembre su primer trabajo en formato LP, "I feel Fine", un destacado trabajo altamente recomendable si lo tuyo es el heavy metal de manofactura clásica. Es ya una fiebre generalizada a lo largo y ancho ese regreso imparable de las bandas que rememoran el sonido de la década de los ochenta, sonido sobre todo honesto, sin aditivos, sin ningún otro elemento más allá del de las guitarras, el bajo la voz y la batería. El grupo se forma en 2017, editando en 2018 su primer material, en este caso en formato EP "Tzimani", ya mostrando cual era el camino que pretendían seguir y que en este "I feel fine" se ve absolutamente refrendado, basta escuchar temas como este "We stand and fight" que dejo hoy en el blog y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Subway To Sally - Stahl Auf Stahl

STAHL  AUF  STAHL

Vamos hoy con una banda que ha pasado más bien de roce por el sonido metálico, con claras influencias desde el principio en este sentido pero con, sobre todo, unos comienzos mucho más folk rock y su sonido germánico, Subway To Sally ha ido variando hacia un sonido más pesado a medida que avanzaba su carrera que comienza en 1992 en su Alemania natal, cantando en principio en inglés se terminan decantando por su lengua madre que actualmente utilizan casi en exclusiva para sus canciones, casi pues por ejemplo en el tema que dejo hoy usan el inglés a medias con el alemán. Catorce son los LP's de estudio que han grabado a los que sumar "Post Mortem" de este 2024 y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, "Stahl Auf Stahl"  para la que cuentan con la colaboración en las voces del cantante de Warkings, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Dawn Of Destiny - Crown Of Creation

CROWN  OF  CREATION

Los alemanes Dawn Of Destiny son uno de esos claros ejemplos de como la calidad y el reconocimiento no siempre van de manera acorde, y en concreto, en este tipo de ocasiones, ante una banda de largo recorrido, (desde 2005 con ya nueve LP's de estudio a sus espaldas si incluimos el último de ellos de finales de noviembre de este 2024), dicha afirmación se hace aún más evidente. Se trata de una banda que ha pasado demasiado desapercibida en terminos generales, practicando un tipo de power metal muy personal y disfrutable, siempre con voz femenina presidiendo sus obras el grupo goza de una gran estabilidad por parte de sus miembros, lo que suele también en no pocas ocasiones ir de la mano de la calidad. En 2021 el bajista y cantante Marko Hietala abandona definitivamente Nightwish, y se suponía que lo hacía para abandonar el mundillo de la música por el hartazgo y la depresión, sin embargo, en este 2024 ha reactivado su banda Tarot y en 2025 el artista saca nuevo material en solitario, su obra "Roses from the deep" (Febrero), del que en estos días ha dejado otro de sus adelantos, "Impatient Zero". Se supone que la obra, como suele ser costumbre en el artísta, bebe de fuentes sinfónicas a la par que un tanto progresivas e incluso folk, sin olvidar un cierto enfoque incluso gótico. Canciones para una vida - Sellsword - New Gods

NEW  GODS

Si algo caracteriza la música de los británicos Sellsword es la versatilidad, además de su calidad contrastable su potencial ya demostrado en sus dos primeras obras de estudio (2016 y 2019) ha provocado que les siga la pista desde sus inicios, y desde ese citado 2019 no ha habido notificación oficial de un tercer LP, sin embargo, durante este 2024 que ya agoniza, han ido editando singles que imagino que terminarán por incluirse en un próximo album, a través de los cuales no hacen sino mantener viva mi sensación de que pueden llegar muy arriba estos chicos. El último de sus singles publicados ha sido "New Gods" (el 29 de noviembre) y de él dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.
