SPEEDY'S  COMING

Otra banda legendaria, una de las que más discos ha vendido a lo largo de su historia, una de las pioneras dentro del heavy metal y el hard rock, con un sello personal reconocible desde sus inicios, capaces de seguir sacando LP's alucinantes casi seis décadas después de su formación allá por 1964, son los alemanes Scorpions. Echando un vistazo a sus  comienzos, hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas incluidos en su segundo LP de estudio, "Fly to the rainbow" de 1974, continuador de su debut de 1972, y poniendo claramente sus credenciales a banda importante en un futuro próximo desde tan temprano. Canciones para una vida - Royal Jester - Lightning Strikes

LIGHTNING  STRIKES

Lo de los suecos Royal Jester es un ejemplo casi perfecto, prototípico de los que pasa a veces con las bandas, proyectos que surgen al reunirse gente procedente de otras bandas, editar algún material de estudio casi a cuentagotas de innegable calidad, que solo te deja la posibilidad de hacerte a ti mismo una pregunta, ¿Pero por que estos tíos no han llegado más alto?. Es así, calidad en cada recoveco de la obra, solo dos LP's editados y además con ocho años de diferencia entre uno y otro, (2010 y 2018), en clave de europower, con el sello sueco que suele ser en casi todos los casos sinónimo y garantía de calidad, aquí de sobra cumplida. Una pena la falta de continuidad, hoy traigo al blog su segundo LP para mostrar algo de su calidad en forma del tema "Lightning Strikes" de su disco "Breaking the chains", una canción que da la sensación de haberseles quedado demasiado corta, deberían haberla duplicado en longitud por lo enganchona que es, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Rainbow - Run With The Wolf

RUN  WITH  THE  WOLF

Vamos con los primeros pasos musicales de una de esas bandas influyentes unidas a nombres míticos que tanto ayudaron a la evolución y engrandecimiento de nuestro sonido, hablamos de Rainbow. Evidentemente sobran las presentaciones, su nombre y su música hablan suficientemente de ellos, de su importancia, y si echamos la vista atrás, a sus inicios a mitad de los 70, entendemos como desde el principio de su carrera pusieron el listón bien alto, atrayendo las miradas hacia lo que hacían en ese camino a equidistante entre el hard rock y el heavy metal. Su segundo LP, "Rising" de 1976, les hacía dueños de un sonido atractivo, imitable, con solo seis temas en poco más de media hora pero entre los que están algunos clásicos metálicos muy versionados. Canciones para una vida - Halén - There's No Use

THERE'S  NO  USE

La banda sueca Halén, o lo que es lo mismo el proyecto del músico multi instrumentista y cantante Ola Halén, comenzó su andadura en 2015 y desde entonces ha editado dos LP's de estudio. Tras su paso y pertenencia a bandas como Insania o Shadow Past, Halén decide probar suerte en solitario, literalmente, pues en sus obras se encarga de todo él mismo, voz incluida. Su sonido es un power metal innegablemente sueco, euro power por lo tanto, limpio en la producción, y a pesar de ser auto producido no se echa en falta la mano de una discográfica detrás. Su primera obra "Nackscott" la edita en 2016 y la segunda, "Idleness" en 2020, y es de este segundo trabajo del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, concretamente "There's no use", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Stormage - Put The Hammer Down

PUT  THE  HAMMER  DOWN

Los alemanes "Stormage" practican un contundente heavy metal, con una vertiente sonora que quiere traer ese sabor más propio del otro lado del charco que de lo que suelen acostumbrar las bandas europeas. Formados en 2003 se trata de otra de esas bandas que no se caracterizan precisamente por editar mucho material ya que "Ashes of doom" publicado en mayo del pasado 2023 supone tan solo su cuarto LP de estudio, sin embargo encontramos un sonido interesante como mínimo para meter la nariz en su corta discografía. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas que componen su obra más nueva, (hasta la fecha de esta reseña), concretamente "Put The Hammer Down", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Judas Priest - Rocka Rolla

ROCKA  ROLLA

Hablemos de nuevo de los principios, y de entre todas las bandas eternas, que las hay, Judas Priest es desde luego una de las indiscutibles candidatas a haber podido ser la primera en facturar el sonido heavy metal como tal. Hace poco leí una entrevista en la que a Halford se le hacía esa pregunta, su opinión de quien fue la primera banda en practicar un sonido heavy como tal, que si Purple, que si Sabbath, y desde luego él, barriendo para casa atribuyó a los suyos tal mérito. Como siempre digo es dificil buscar ese momento concreto en ese lugar específico, pero desde luego buscarlo en la discografía de Judas Priest podría ser una buena idea. Formados en 1970, para 1974 editaban su disco debut, "Rocka Rolla", con cierta influencia o tendencia del hard rock de la época, el heavy aún estaba en pleno proceso de nacimiento y este disco es un buen ejemplo de ello. Canciones para una vida - No Man Eyes - The Altar Of Science + Craving Tomorrow

 

THE  ALTAR  OF  SCIENCE  +  CRAVING  TOMORROW

Otros que llevaban ya un buen puñado de años sin dar señales de vida compositiva eran los italianos No man eyes, ya que desde 2016 no sacaban disco nuevo, y este recién pasado 2023 han roto ese record negativo. Estamos ante una banda con una cierta trayectoria a sus espaldas, formados en 2011 han editado solo otros dos LP's antes de hacerlo con este tercero en su historia personal. La obra "Harness the sun" ha sido editada digitalmente y de forma independiente, y en ella encontraremos un heavy metal clásico en algunos aspectos, con cierta intención power con cierto aire progresivo, dejando un buen sabor de boca. Canciones para una vida - Saxon - Rainbow Theme / Frozen Rainbow

RAINBOW  THEME /  FROZEN  RAINBOW

Para el nacimiento de esta inmortal banda británica, Saxon, allá por 1978, gran parte de sus miembros habían formado parte juntos de otros proyectos, o más bien habían tocado juntos bajo otros nombres desde comienzos de esa década de los 70, pero el cambio de nombre, unido a la NWOBHM, les hizo nacer ya como Saxon con un formato absolutamente heavy metal clásico. Su debut así lo atestigua, "Saxon", 1979, una obra que muestra claramente que el concepto básico de la banda ha permanecido incorruptible a lo largo de todas estas décadas. Canciones para una vida - Leatherwolf - Madhouse

 

MADHOUSE

Leatherwolf se sacó de la manga en 2022 un auténtico discazo, volviendo a la primera plana para muchos metalheads que les habían enterrado por enésima vez gracias a la irregular carrera de la banda en lo que a continuidad compositiva se refiere. Además, presentar nuevo vocalista tras un silencio compositivo de más de una década abría en muchos una sensación mayor de incertidumbre previa a la escucha del nuevo material, pero estos tíos, de haber tenido mayor constancia podrían haber llegado mucho más alto. Y es que "Kill the hunted" ha resultado ser un disco de heavy metal americano de primer nivel, completo, contundente, enganchón, variado, una demostración de buen hacer que esperemos que ne el futuro tenga un sucesor sin tener que esperar otra década. De esta citada obra, la sexta de la banda en cuatro décadas de actividad, quiero dejar en el blog el tema "Madhouse", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

SOUNDS  OF  WAR

Con el nuevo año que se inicia he querido incluir una idea que hace ya mucho me rondaba por la cabeza, hacer mención al sonido aún más primigenio, ese importante paso que desembocaría en el posteriormente llamado heavy metal, un sonido este nuestro que ha ido creciendo, evolucionando de otros previos, no nació así sin más, y es difícil acotar desde cuando se puede acuñar "heavy metal" como concepto, yo había puesto la raya con el inicio de la década de los 80 sobre todo por empezar por alguna parte, y coincidiendo con la explosión de bandas de heavy metal británicas que en 1980 comenzó a popularizar el sonido, pero siempre es injusto dejar fuera el sonido setentero germen de lo que vendría, por eso, con la etiqueta "1979 Prev" pretendo traer al blog ese sonido previo, entre el que nació nuestro sonido, hijo de muchas fuentes, por lo que puede aparecer una corriente más hardrockera, más progresiva e incluso más rockera o psicodélica o folk, sea como sea ese mestizaje sonoro trajo al mundo el heavy metal clásico, y sus muchas evoluciones posteriores. Para empezar con esta nueva colección de canciones he querido traer al blog una banda muy querida para mí, una de mis primeras bandas preferidas, y de ella, los germanos Accept, su obra debut, con un sonido inicial ya muy heavy, y su primer disco "Accept" editado en 1979 mostraba ya más bien a una banda creada en el concepto "Heavy Metal" desde sus mismos cimientos. Canciones para una vida - Project Arcadia - Rusty Cage

RUSTY  CAGE

Desde Bulgaria toma aliento un proyecto ya con un cierto recorrido "Project Arcadia", con poca repercusión eso sí, pero que llevan en activo desde 2007 habiendo editado en este tiempo tres LP's de estudio si incluimos el tercero de ellos, "Of sins and other tales", que verá la luz de forma oficial a finales de Enero de 2024 tras una década desde la publicación de su anterior trabajo de 2014 "A time of changes". Hablamos de power metal con un cierto aire heavy metálico, y con una mezcla de escuelas, por momentos europower por momentos un sonido algo más americano. Canciones para una vida - Vanir - Twisting The Knife

TWISTING  THE  KNIFE

Va siendo ya largo el recorrido de esta banda desde su formación en 2009. Los daneses han editado en estos años siete LP's de estudio si tenemos en cuenta también  "Epitome" el séptimo de sus discos que verá la luz de forma oficial a mitad de febrero de 2024. Hablamos por supuesto de death melódico con un componente grande vikingo, épico, nórdico por lo que la mitología nórdica y la exaltación del alcohol están presentes siempre en su argumentario. En estos días han ido dejando alguna pincelada de lo que será su trabajo nuevo, como el tema que abrirá la obra, "Twisting the knife" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

THE  PROPHECY

Vindictiv fue una interesante banda sueca de power metal con un componente progresivo que en la actualidad parece no seguir en activo, no dan muestras de actividad desde 2015 y a pesar de que oficialmente no han dado el proyecto por zanjado si que parece que por ahí puedan ir los tiros. Durante su periodo de actividad que abarca desde 2004 al citado 2015, editaron un total de cuatro LP's de estudio, el último de ellos de 2015, "World of fear" y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, "The prophecy" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

DEFY  THE  NIGHT

Otra banda más de reciente formación cuya incipiente carrera comienza a dar frutos compositivos en este 2023. Se trata del proyecto internacional "Glyph" que comenzó su andadura en el pasado 2022 y que en este 2023 ha visto editar su primer material en forma de EP, "When the world was young". Estamos de nuevo en los terrenos del power metal, bastante tendente al euro power, y con un prometedor gancho que presagia que su nombre se vaya a empezar a oir en los círculos internacionales. NECROPOLITANS

La evolución sonora de los Daneses Manticora es un hecho, formados en 1997, desde su inicial power metal puro, y a través de los nueve LP's de estudio que componen su discografía, el grupo ha ido evolucionando introduciendo elementos desde progresivos a sinfónicos, desde heavy metálicos hasta death melódicos, oscureciendo un poco su concepto que desde lo lírico alcanza desde lo fantástico a lo literario y redundan en lo conceptual incluso con apoyo compositivo de elementos progresivos, en definitiva una banda madura en sus ideas que ha llegado a este punto de su carrera con un camino largo y variado, y que en este 2024 verá su décimo capitulo bajo el título "Mycelium" otra obra conceptual, en sus palabras más cruda, oscura y de temática casi de película  -serie de terror. dejo en el blog uno de los temas que formarán parte del disco, "necropolitans", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
