 MAN  IN  THE  STREET

Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema casi exclusivamente desde una perspectiva histórica, es como una pieza curiosa que más que por lo extrictamente musical aparecerá por el peso específico de su cantante, Bruce Dickinson, en sus primeros escarceos con el sonido que posteriormente ayudaría tanto a engrandecer. Se trata de la banda "Speed", que fue hogar primigenio del gran vocalista, y donde unido al teclista y compositor Paul White, editan en 1980 este single con otros músicos de sesión. Sin duda sirve para mostrar las capacidas y potencial de lo que vendría después, aunque sea una pena la calidad productiva del tema que por otra parte tiene cierto gancho, muy hija de su momento y de ese incipiente heavy mental de la NWOBHM que arrasaría el planeta en los años que venían. Canciones para una vida - Skiltron - Triumph And Devotion, As We Fight

 

TRIUMPH  AND  DEVOTION,  AS  WE  FIGHT

Llevaban ya unos años estos chicos argentinos sin darnos señales de vida compositiva, más allá de su colaboración en 2020 con la banda Celtica Nova versionando el clásico de Europe "The final countdown". Exactamente era desde 2016, fecha de publicación de su quinto LP de estudio, "Legacy of blood", desde que no nos mostraban material nuevo, y finalmente, cuando agoniza ya este 2023, editan su sexto disco de estudio, "Bruadarach" para alegría de su parroquia. Estamos ante un nuevo ejemplo del sonido que ha sido estandarte de la banda desde el inicio, todos los ingredientes se pueden encontrar una vez más, y como buen ejemplo dejo hoy en el blog el mismisimo inicio de la obra, su intro junto con su primer disparo, "As we fight", tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Theocracy - Anonymous

 

ANONYMOUS

Siempre desde el principio de su carrera esta banda estadounidense me ha dado la misma impresión, la de la calidad por encima de otras consideraciones, la sensación de que quieren respetarse a si mismos como grupo, siguiendo un sendero, como es el progresivo, que encuentra menos apoyo en el gran público que otros géneros, pero poniendo ese irresistible contrapunto power para capturar más miradas, sonido elaborado, limpio, composiciones ricas y llenas de matices, y crecimiento musical que les debería dar a largo plazo buenos frutos, sobre todo si son capaces de mostrar al mundo más material, o reducir los tiempos entre obras en un mundo actual tan inmediato. Sea como fuere, "Theocracy" nos dejan en este 2023 su quinto LP de estudio lleno de buenos momentos, un gran disco como nos tienen acostumbrados, y del que dejo hoy en el blog otro de sus temas, hoy "Anonymous", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

COME  UNDOME

A estas alturas de la película, nadie duda, o al menos nadie debería hacerlo, de la importante reputación del guitarrista y compositor griego Gus G., debido a su trayectoria en las diferentes bandas, colaboraciones y carrera en solitario, siendo una figura importante, por ejemplo, en el boom actual de calidad y cantidad de bandas griegas que de pripmer nivel que encontramos en la escena internacional actual. Una de las primeras paradas del guitarrista y una de las más antiguas en la que sigue enrolado es "Firewind", que desde 1998 ha dejado 9 LP's de estudio, 10 si contamos el inminente ya "Stand United" que se espera para comienzos de 2024, y que en estos días nos deja otro adelanto de lo que será la obra, en esta ocasión "Come undone" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Vandenberg - Sin

 

SIN

El holandes Adrian Vandenberg es uno de esos músicos que llevan desde siempre en esto del heavy y el hard rock, desde los inicios de la década de los 80, y desde bien temprano, formó su propia banda, bajo su propio nombre, en ese marco sonoro a medio camino entre el hard rock y el heavy, en este caso melódico y con algunos tintes Sred. Después llegaron los momentos de su participación en grandes bandas, destacando los Whitesnake ochenteros. Como dato curioso, le gusta encargarse del "Artwork" de sus obras y así lo ha hecho en todas ellas. Es, igualmente uno de esos músicos que han decidido relanzar su carrera en solitario en los últimos años, y bajo el nombre de "Vandenberg" desde 2020 ha editado dos LP's que se suman a su discografía que estaba en dique seco desde 1985 en que sacó su tercer disco, "Alibi". Así pues el total de obras bajo este nombre es de cinco LP's, y del último de ellos, "Sin" de este 2023 quiero hoy dejar en el blog uno de los temas que lo componen, concretamente el que da nombre a la obra, "Sin", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - From North - Raven Banner

 

RAVEN  BANNER

Desde luego que se lo van tomando con calma estos suecos, From North, a la hora de desarrollar su carrera, formados en 2016, en seguida sacaron un primer LP muy prometedor, "From North" en 2017, pero después, hasta este 2023 no han editado un segundo, "Raven Banner" editado de forma oficial el 24 de noviembre, si bien es cierto que en 2020 sacaron dos EP's que les mantenían con vida a los ojos del público en su incipiente carrera. El sonido de la banda parece no alterar su objetivo en este segundo esfuerzo en relación al debut, hablamos de un folk metal de sabor vikingo, con temáticas nórdicas y unas atmósferas muy acordes, un tanto oscuro, con momentos asperos pero un transfondo muy accesible. A  NEW  DAWN

Vamos con un poco de power germano, a través de la banda "Ignition", formada en 2014 y con tres LP's de estudio a sus espaldas, 2017, 2020 y este "Vengeance" del presente 2023. Estamos ante una banda que factura un sonido familiar para los estandares del power de corte europeo, pero saltando de una parte a la ptra dentro del citado subgénero, desde momentos blindguardianistas hasta otros más cortantes, no diré que americanos, pero si a lo mystic prophecy de hace unos años, aunque siempre se deja entrever ese concepto personal en la elección de sus composiciones. La temática es épico histórico fantástica, y de este tercer LP de su carrera quiero hoy dejar en el blog el tema "A new dawn" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

HELL , FIRE  AND  DAMNATION

Incombustibles, una de las bandas que deberían ser reconocidad por todos como uno de los pilares del heavy metal, que, sin descanso de épocas, atravesando momentos compositivos diferentes pero siempre con su propia identidad, han y siguen completando una carrera con ya 27 LP's de estudio (contando este "Hell Fire and damnation" cuya salida oficial se espera para el 19 de enero del inminente 2024), solo por esas cifras merecen el respeto y más si a los números les acompaña la caidad, y la honestidad de seguir su propia senda. En estos día la banda nos deja el primer adelanto de la nueva obra, la canción que la da nombre y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial, "Saxon", ni más ni menos.

ETERNAL  PARADISE 

Claramente los franceses Galderia siguen la senda musical de ese power "happy" que por ejemplo bandas como Freedom Call han adoptado como santo y seña para desarrollar su carrera, siempre power, de corte europeo, lustroso, pegajoso, facilón, del que tarareas enseguida. La carrera del grupo ya se extiende por más de una década, formados en 2006, y con tres LP's de estudio a los que añadir dos EP's. El último de sus discos, a fecha de esta reseña, "Endless Horizon" de 2022, en estos días se cumple un año de su publicación, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de sus temas, "Eternal Paradise" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Ring Of Fire - Gravity

 

GRAVITY

Los alemanes "Ring of fire" siguen su camino de ya largo recorrido, (se forman en 2000), a pesar de que su discografía cuenta tan solo con cinco LP's de estudio en este largo periodo de 23 años. Es cierto que la banda tuvo un parón al menos compositivo de una década para retomar la actividad en ese sentido en 2014, pero en líneas generales siempre se han tomado su tiempo, (mucho) entre obra y obra. 2022 fue la fecha de su último trabajo, "Gravity", disco para el que hay una profunda renovación en los componentes de la banda, (que no en el concepto de la misma), ya que siguen con su toque progresivo y una mezcla entre el heavy y el power. Magnífico ejemplo de como rememorar el espiritu ochentero con los medios actuales, el que practican los suecos "Air Raid" cuyo sonido podríamos etiquetar como un hard 'n heavy melódico, lleno de guiños a la citada década. Canciones para una vida - Rigorious - Lost

 

LOST

Otra banda que va dando los primeros pasos en su carrera son los germanos Rigorious, quienes se formaron en 2021 y que en este 2023 editan su primer LP "Night of retribution", tras su debut presentación de 2022 en formato EP "Iron Wings/Power of my sword" cuyas versiones digamos normales están incluidas también en el debut en formato LP de este 2023. El sonido se enmarca en un power de corte europeo, con el apoyo a la hora de grabar la obra de Chris Boltendahl de Grave Digger, un buen padrino para esto del heavy metal. TO  VICTORY

Los suizos "Morgarten" son un grupo de folk metal en su vertiente oscura, black death melódico con el ingrediente épico, de ese que se refleja por ejemplo a través de coros y melodías. Son así mismo uno de esos grupos que han decidido tomarse su carrera con parsimonia, demasiada, ya que desde su formación en 2005 solo dos LP's conforman su discografía, el último de ellos de 2021, y el primero de 2015. desde luego han pasado bastante desapercibidos, pero si  tienen el suficiente interés como para dedicarles algo de tiempo para investigar sus obras, y de la segunda de ellas, "Cry of the lost" quiero hoy dejar uno de sus temas en el blog, "To Victory" con la que la abren, con los citados coros, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

CHILDREN  OF  THE  NIGHT

De vuelta a esos magníficos años para el heavy metal que fueron la década de los ochenta, particularmente la primera mitad, dejo hoy en el blog a otra banda que cumple perfectamente con toda esa serie de premisas que la hacen pertenecer por derecho propio al citado club, el sonido por supuesto, con ese aire de la vieja escuela, lo breve de su carrera, en este caso de los franceses "Steel Angel" entre 1983 y 1987, dandoles tiempo a editar dos LP's de estudio, en 1985 el debut y un año después este "Kiss of steel" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, concretamente "Children of the night" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Frozen Crown - Until The end

 

UNTIL  THE  END

Otro grupo que está en pleno proceso de asentamiento, de confirmación total de un planteamiento son los italianos "Frozen Crown", sobre todo tras una profunda remodelación en la formación que sucedió en 2021, que hizo pensar que la banda aún de crota trayectoria pudiera resentirse definitivamente pero que ha sabido rehacerse con total eficacia. En realidad si nos fijamos en la trayectoria del grupo vemos que son aún una joven banda formada en 2017, pero que han editado cuatro LP's de estudio a buen ritmo a pesar del citado contratiempo, y que han sabido destacar con su power de corte europeo, con rasgos modernos, y un tanto épicos en el oncepto clásico, dandose ese espacio necesario para mantener la atención del gran público.
