THE  ROADS  TO  ILIAD

Vamos con una mezcla, digamos, poco habitual, el thrash con un concepto compositivo progresivo, a ello, hay que añadir el dato del momento en que se dió, finales de los 80, una época fenomenal para el thrash, pero no tanto para la vertiente progresiva, y menos unida, como decía más arriba, al thrash. Se trata de los germanos "Sieges Even", un grupo que intermitentemente siguió sacando material de estudio, aunque cambiando un poco su estilo, centrándolo poco a poco más en la vertiente progresiva, con cambios también incluidos de nombre de la banda. El caso es que entre 1982 y 2008, en diferentes épocas editaron un total de 7 LP's de estudio, el primero de ellos de 1988, "Lifecycle", con el enfoque más "Thrash" de todas sus obras, pero con ese trasfondo progresivo absolutamente presente, y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, concretamente uno de los temas instrumentales, "The roads to Iliad" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

STAND  UP  (WATCH  OUT)

La enésima banda de esas absolutamente anónimas, con potencial, de breve carrera, de aún más breve discografía, que desarrollo su carrera en la década de los ochenta y en el marco sonoro del heavy metal de corte clásico, estos de origen y escuela estado unidense. Al final todas estas bandas, con sus breves incursiones, con esa demostración de potencial lo que nos cuentan es, sobre todo ese innegable poder para generar bandas en la década de los ochenta, que como siempre decimos, en una escena tan saturada apenas tenían una ocasión de asomarse para sumergirse de nuevo en la marea anónima de bandas condenadas al olvido. Segundo adelanto del nuevo LP de los germanos, la banda tras la que Piet Sielk se muestra como el lider que es, siempre con una importante carga histórica muchas veces ya explicada en este blog, y que aunque parezca que a fuego lento por el gran número de años de acitividad, la discografía de Iron Savior va poco a poco aumentando su importancia, su reconocimiento y su peso específico. De vuelta al cuarto LP de Gloryhammer, el primero con el nuevo vocalista, "Return to the kingdom of Fife" de este 2023, un disco que ha llegado para mostrar que la sensible baja de Thomas a la voz se ha suplido con calidad, que esa no será la excusa para que la banda deje de editar material, el grupo está muy vivo, en un gran momento compositivo y el nuevo disco brilla a gran altura en su totalidad, con grandes destellos como por ejemplo este "Sword Lord Of The Goblin Horde" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Volvamos al segundo LP de los finlandeses "Frozen Land" para destacar otro de sus temas incluidos en este "Out of the dark" del presente 2023. Desde luego que esta banda desde su debut demostró el enorme potencial que atesoran, mostró por donde podían ir los tiros compositivos para su carrera futura e ilusionó a mucha gente con el posible futuro que prometen. Canciones para una vida - Insomnium - Song Of The Dusk

 

SONG  OF  THE  DUSK

Los finlandeses Insomnium, dueños de un reconocido, reconocible y fino death melódico, han editado este 2023 su noveno album de estudio, y han decidido la formula de tratar de vender los temas escogidos para formar parte de los bonus track de las ediciones especiales del citado noveno album, en formato EP reuniendo los tres temas. Más allá de la intención recaudatoria o no de la banda, es además una ocasión de hacerse con los tres bonus si te habías hecho con la edición inicial, y además, supuestamente este triplete de temas ofrecen un final alternativo al hilo conductor de la historia del disco. Canciones para una vida - Tower Hill - Deathstalker

 

DEATHSTALKER

Primer paso en formato LP de la banda canadiense Tower Hill que tan buena impresión dejase en su primer material editado en formato demo . Parece indudable que al final van a dar que hablar, a juzgar por el primero de los adelantos del que será su primer album para finales de este 2023. Los canadienses han firmado con el sello "No remorse" y parece que la banda, apoyada en principio solo en el músico R.F. Traynor, que se encarga de todos los instrumntos y la composición así como de la parte vocal, se ha reforzado con dos guitarristas, bajista y batería.El primero de los adelantos lleva el nombre del disco , "Deathstalker", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Icon Of Sin - The Scarlet Gospels

 

THE  SCARLET  GOSPELS

Vamos con otra banda de reciente formación, en esta ocasión de la cantera brasileña, la cual, con mayor o menor acierto es una cantera que da muchísimos grupos, aunque realmente son solo un puñado de ellos los que conquistan en mayor o menor medida la atención del gran público. Formados en 2020 han editado ya dos LP's de estdio en este breve periodo, el segundo de ellos, "Legends" en este 2023, (oficialmente el cuatro de agosto). Su sonido camina a media distancia entre varias cosas, acercádose más al heavy metal clásico que a otros subgéneros, y con unas tesituras vocales y en ocasiones compositivas que pueden traer reminiscencias maidenianas. Canciones para una vida - Philadelphis - Razor's Edge

 

RAZOR'S  EDGE

Seguimos en esa línea de bandas desconocidas, ochenteras, con poca discografía aunque interesante, en este caso de otra de las grandes escenas de la época, la estadounidense. Son "Philadelphia", que editaron tan solo bajo este nombre dos LP's de estudio en la primera parte de su carrera, que luego, como ha ocurrido en otros muchos casos con bandas de este tipo, intentaron una segunda parte varias décadas después, y como suele ser también costumbre, con poca repercusión igualmente en este reintento. En este caso editan su tercer LP en 2016, aunque siguen en teoría en activo. La banda practicaba un heavy metal de corte clásico, propio de la escuela de la que vienen, mostrando ese punto interesante que los grupos de esos años tenían. El primero de sus discos llevó por título "Tell the truth" de 1984, y de él quiero dejar en el blog el tema "Razor's Edge" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Chinawhite - Run For Cover

 

RUN  FOR  COVER

De nuevo otra banda más monodisco, una de esas muchas que intentaron abrirse camino para chocarse con la realidad de la saturación de la década ochentera a la que pertenecieron, una más de las casi infinitas que se englobaron en el movimiento de la NWOBHM, británicos por lo tanto. Es un grupo más, con todo lo que ello implica, que quedó enterrado en el olvido antes siquiera de haber arrancado, y como muchas de esas bandas, con su lado interesante al menos, con muchoas aspectos mejorables, por supuesto, entre ellos la producción, pero con ese aura que las bandas ochenteras poseían, quizá también por el mismo hecho de la falta de los medios actuales, lo que les hacía sonar absolutamente auténticos. Formados en 1981, "Chinawhite" editan solo un LP en 1984, de título "Run for cover", en una clave de heavy metal melódico, un cierto toque a los primeros Def Leppard si se quiere. Con los medios justos, incluidas sus dotes musicales, si que supieron encontrar ese espíritu al que me refería más arriba, por ejemplo en temas como el que da nombre a la obra, y del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Percival - Hold On Tight

 

HOLD  ON  TIGHT

Aún sin sello discográfico que les apoye, a pesar del magnífico trabajo que presentaron en su debut, los argentinos "Percival" se disponen a dar su segundo paso en forma de LP, "The seventh seal" obra que ha visto la luz de forma oficial el 18 de este mes de agosto. La verdad es que aún no he tenido tiempo de escuchar entero el disco, pero me basta con la promesa de los adelantos y la del pasado debut que me pareció suficientemente interesante para que hoy debieran tener alguna discográfica detrás promocionando su potencial. Canciones para una vida - Skull & Crossbones - Sungazer

 

SUNGAZER

 Skull & Crossbones son una banda alemana de reciente formación (2019) que realiza un sonido clásico de heavy metal del de toda la vida, seguramente porque la banda esta creada basicamente por ex miembros de la banda clásica "Stormwitch". Por el momento tan solo han editado un unico LP de estudio en este 2023, "Sungazer", que saldrá de forma oficial a la venta el próximo e inminente 8 de septiembre. Desde luego que no inventan nada nuevo, pero siempre es interesante escuchar material nuevo de músico experimentados y con una trayectoria tras ellos, como es el caso de estos "Skull & Crossbones". Canciones para una vida - Great Master - Montecristo

 

MONTECRISTO

Nuevo LP de estudio a la vista por parte de los italianos "Great Master", el que supondrá el sexto de su discografía y cuya salida oficial se espera para el 21 de septiembre. Llevará por título "Montecristo" y debería estar destinado a confirmar el camino en ascenso de los últimos discos de la banda que lleva en activo desde 1993, aunque no comenzasen a editar material hasta 2009, con el citado salto de calidad en mi opinión desde 2016 en adelante. BEWARE  THE  FURY

Los suecos "Raven Banner" son una banda de reciente formación a pesar de que la componen músicos experimentados procedentes de otras bandas y proyectos. Fijando su mirada en las bandas nórdicas que afloraron en la primera década de este siglo, su sonido bebe del death melódico así como de ese componente épico con líricas vikingas tan apropiadas a su origen.Se forman en 2021 y de momento tan solo han editado un único LP, "Rise up clan" de este 2023. cuya salida oficial se espara para el primero de septiembre. Ya han dejado un par de adelantos de este debut y hoy quiero dejar en el blog un enlace a youtube de uno de ellos, "Beware the fury".

Canciones para una vida - Blazon Rite - Autumn Fear Brings Winter Doom

 

AUTUMN  FEAR  BRINGS  WINTER  DOOM

 

2023 ha sido el año escogido por los estadounidenses "Blazon Rite" para continuar su historia musical personal a través de su segundo LP "Wild rites and ancient songs" que ha visto la luz de forma oficial el pasado mes de abril. Como ya nos dejaron claro en el anterior LP, el grupo se nutre de la tradición power épica de su escena natal clásica, es un concepto diferente al del europower, con canciones que uno debe trabajar más a la hora de la escucha para sacar todo el jugo, un poco en la onda de sus compatriotas "Visigoth" por ejemplo, en terminos de bandas actuales, o con el espejo clásico de los "Cirith Ungol" y similares. El caso es que la banda parece haber trazado su camino en esa dirección y este segundo album es una confirmación de ello.
