FIGHT  FIRE  WITH  FIRE

Podría, sin duda, haber sido un primer paso prometedor para una banda más de la escena estadounidense de mitad de los ochenta, pero como tantas veces ha ocurrido en la historia de nuestro sonido, fue también el último material editado por este grupo que practicaba un hard 'n heavy melódico, con muy buena ejecución y un gran potencial. Formados en 1984, como digo editan este LP de identico nombre al de la banda, "Diamond" en 1986 y después de eso ninguna noticia, ni siquiera del su separación definitiva. Como digo, como primer paso compositivo no tienen nada que envidiar a otros grupos de su momento, una vez más la sobresaturación de bandas de la época tuvo que ser parte de la culpa de que no asomasen apenas la cabeza en la escena internacional. Canciones para una vida - Rage - Nevermore

 

NEVERMORE

La eficacia, la eficiencia, el buen hacer y la constancia son rasgos comunes a las obras de los de Peavy Wagner, los germanos Rage se han ganado a pulso desde la década de los ochenta en que comenzasen, el respeto de propios y ajenos por la intachable carrera musical y sus muchos frutos cosechados en forma de LP. La verdad es que, sobre todo al inicio de su carrera, supieron hacer una apuesta estilística variada, que intentase atraer a los más variopintos metalheads a sus calor, tomando rasgos compositivos del heavy metal, de su vertiente más acelerada, el speed y del propio thrash, y posteriormente y de forma abierta del power metal, esta formula arriesgada en principio les ha dado grandes resultados haciendo de su sonido un sello facil de distinguir y reconocible. En 1993, editaban el que era su séptimo LP de estudio, "The missing link" que para muchos ponía punto y seguido a una primera fase de su carrera y que se trataba de un refugio, uno de los pocos en esa década, para los amantes del heavy metal, ya que la escena atravesaba malos momentos en general y solo un puñado de bandas mantenían el impulso en esa línea. Canciones para una vida - At Vance - Seven Seas

 

SEVEN  SEAS

Vamos hoy con un poco de power clásico, este facturado con la innegable influencia del sonido que se denominó neo clasico, con un regusto por lo tanto barroco, elaborado, un sonido cuidado, de la factoría sueca, en estaba resurgiendo con fuerza a través de muchas bandas en ese momento. Hablamos de At Vance, y de su debut, "No escape" de 1999, un disco que ponía bajo los focos sobre todo a su vocalista Oliver Hartmann, que durante el lustro siguiente sería una pieza recurrente en colaboraciones diversas y sonadas, (algunas del calibre de Avantasia). Por encima de todo la obra destila calidad, y en lo sonoro, por ejemplo en el tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "Seven Seas", vemos reminiscencias de Axel Rudi Pell por ejemplo, un aire a ciertos momentos de Yngwie en sus temas más veloces pero con mayor sentido melódico, suenan a At Vance en definitiva, y sus cuatro primeras obras para mi gusto son las mejores. Cnaciones para una vida - Iron Maiden - Drifter

 

DRIFTER

Como me gusta esta obra de los inmensos Maiden, a nivel personal fue el primer material del grupo que cayó en mis manos, y eso marca, sin duda, pero tratando de ver las cosas objetivamente en 1981, años de este "Killers", los Maiden estaban en ese punto especial, con la experiencia de su debut a sus espaldas, pero con el hambre absoluto de quienes están empezando, sin haber llegado a ser aún nada más que una promesa que se realizaba, las virtudes mostradas en esta obra son todas, incluso la impresionante interpretación de Di Ano a la voz, eclipsado después en dotes innatas por Dickinson, pero con ese toque tan especial, tan honesto que queda perfecto en el album, siempre he dicho que prefiero sus dos primeros discos con DiAno que si los hubieran regrabado con Dickinson, este Killers es algo absolutamente especial. Canciones para una vida - Running Wild - Lions Of The Sea

 

LIONS  OF  THE  SEA

Volvamos a uno de los estandartes que en la primera parte de la década de los 90 se mantuvieron firmes en el espíritu clásico, uno de esos no muchos que supieron mantenerse fieles a las raices, al sonido que les hizo grandes y reconocibles, una década complicada para el heavy metal, con las multiples evoluciones, los cambios e influencias o la "extremización", sea como fuere, Running Wild en los 90 parió algunos de sus mejores LP's manteniendo ese hilo de vida de la escena del heavy metal, uno de los que contribuyeron a no dejarlo morir para que renaciese luego con más fuerza casi casi. En 1995, a la banda le tocaba dar continuidad al enorme "Black hand inn", a nivel personal uno de los discos de mi vida, y claro, no resultaba fácil, sin embargo "Masquerade" es un digno sucesor, seguramente tendría mejores sensaciones si no le hubiese tocaso suceder a aquel, pero tomado como obra en si misma es absolutamente "Runningwildesco", como por ejemplo en el tema "Lions of the sea" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - U.D.O. - Forever Free

 

FOREVER  FREE

Imparable la carrera de U.D.O. con su carismático vocalista a la cabeza, echando la vista atrás, el cantante ha editado ya 17 LP's de estudio, contando este "Touchdown" que verá la luz de forma oficial en agosto de este 2023, desde que separase su camino del de Accept allá por 1987.El grupo, por lo tanto, muchisimo más que asentado, con una idea compositiva muy clara, que nunca se alejó demasiado del concepto propuesto por los propios Accept, sigue dando pasos al frente, y desde 2022, con la incorporación del bajista Peter Baltes, quien compartiese formación con Udo en Accept, promete continuar con el citado concepto compositivo. Canciones para una vida - Fates Warning - The Apparition

 

THE  APPARITION

Nueva visita a una de esas obras de obligada mención, en su conjunto, es uno de esos LP's en los que la mayor parte de la gente está de acuerdo en considerar como un hito no solo en la carrera de la banda sino del heavy metal en general, de haber parido más obras de este nivelón general estaríamos hablando de un grupo tan grande como los mismisimos Maiden. Hablamos por supuesto de los estadounidenses Fates Warning y de su "The spectre Within" de 1985. Es evidente que el toque progresivo de este grupo puede ser más limitador para el gran público que un sonido más directo como por ejemplo el de los mencionados Maiden sobre todo los discos ochenteros, pero la calidad de esta obra, es tan aplastante que a pocos se les debería resistir, otro buen ejemplo es el tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "The Apparition", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Heidra - Corrupted Shores

 

CORRUPTED  SHORES

Vamos con un poquito de death melódico danes, con la banda "Heidra", un grupo que ha demostrado claramente su buen hacer, su potencial y su calidad, desde 2006 en que se formaron, aunque han espaciado mucho sus obras de estudio, (2014, 2018 y 2022) lo que plantea esa duda una vez más de si es mejor la calidad o la cantidad, claramente la calidad debe estar presente siempre, aunque una espera larga entre obra y obra hace que se resienta el crecimiento de una banda que al final necesita del reconocimiento del público para llegar a niveles superiores, desde luego la calidad no será un problema. Canciones para una vida - Warlock - Metal Tango

 

METAL  TANGO

Hay discos que tienen un significado especial, o un cierto peso extra, por motivos a veces incluso externos a lo musical propiamente dicho, a lo compositivo, son obras que en su momento deslumbraron convirtiendose en pieza clave, de esas obras que hay que tener aunque sea por el pedacito de historia metálica que son, uno de esos discos es este "Triumph and agony" de los alemanes "Warlock". Quizá uno de los motivos del éxito de la banda Warlock esté en la figura de Doro, por aquellos años la indiscutible metal queen de la escena del heavy metal internacional, que atraía las miradas de muchos que después se quedaban por la propuesta clásica de heavy metal de la banda, el éxito del disco en concreto va de la mano de ser creado en uno de los mejores momentos de la banda, a lo que se puede sumar un elemento estético más como es la impecable portada que lleno muchas carpetas de los jovenes estudiantes de la época, una suma de factores que deja a esta obra entre esas elegidas para muchos. Canciones para una vida - Cloven Hoof - Forgotten Heroes

 

FORGOTTEN  HEROES

Quiero hoy retornar a la discografía de los británicos "Cloven Hoof" para hablar de otro de sus momentos, seguramente uno de los que les pudo hacer brillar más, aunque siempre termine por tener esa sensación de banda maltratada por la crítica, o por el gran público, sobre todo entonces, ya que la mirada de la misma con la prespectiva del tiempo les va poniendo poco a poco en su sitio. Hablamos de 1989, de su tercera obra de estudio, "A sultan's Ransom", un disco fenomenal, que quizá en el apartado estilístico llegaba un poquito tarde, en un momento en el que la pegada del estilo clásico más allá de Maiden o Judas no era una apuesta segura en lo que a ventas se refiere, había demasiadas evoluciones, pero esta obra es un auténtico placer para los oidos del amante de la vieja escuela, bastante maideniano, en momentos encontraremos reminiscencias de Judas, de Accept, o incluso en lo vocal de Queensryche, una obra que sorprenderá a muchos de los que no la hayan prestado atención con anterioridad y de la que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a su segundo tema "Forgotten Heroes" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dynazty - Starlight

 

STARLIGHT

El tercero de los trabajos de estudio de los suecos "Dynazty", de título "Renatus", sirvio para aumentar su popularidad, siendo desde luego una propuesta que enganchó a muchos de sus seguidores, que seguramente en su mayoría habrán permanecido fieles a la propuesta de la banda en adelante. Dynazty es uno de esos grupos que lleva en su ADN el sello sueco lo que implica esa calidad en producción, y esa capacidad de crear música que se te mete en la cabeza para permanecer allí. A su favor está también lo consistente de su composición, editando obras cada par de años sin que la calidad se resienta, todo ello hace de su propuesta un valor seguro, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de los temas que forman parte de su tercer album, el citado "Renatus" de 2014, del que hoy dejo el tema "Starlight", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida Iron Maiden - The Trooper

 

THE  TROOPER

Como siempre ocurre en estos casos, (Iron Maiden, década de los ochenta), solo con pensar en los debates manidos, en los argumentos repetidos y las disputas de cuando eran mejores o peores, de desde cuando se echaron a perder o no, la verdad es que a uno se le quitan las ganas, pero más allá del nombre, de su historia, de su innegable capacidad para generar opiniones, a favor o no, de todo eso que ya hemos dicho y leido tantas veces, Maiden es, fue y será siempre eso, Maiden, y ese es un valor considero que suficiente para muchas cosas, si además le acompañan los argumentos puramente conpositivos, como en esta su cuarta obra de estudio, "Piece of mind", 1983, la verdad es que lo demás sobra, que te gusta, genial, que no, igualmente respetable, hoy dejo otro ejemplo de buen hacer, mejor vender, y argumento para mantenerse arriba en el futuro, temas como este son base para directos, exito casi eterno, asegurado, y cuando se repite a lo largo de una discografía surgen mitos más que bandas, mitos como Iron Maiden, hoy "The Trooper" uno de esos singles por antonomasia, del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

THE  ROCK

Mirada de nuevo a esa época tan sobre todo honesta en lo que se refiere a componer un disco de heavy metal, los ochenta, en este caso la parte final, lo que puede chocar algo más puesto que entramos en el recurrente argumento de la diversificación estilística que tanto daño hizo al heavy metal como tal, desde la defensa del concepto clásico, que empezó a golpear con fuerza desde mediados de los ochenta y que para finales era evidente y patente. Pero Saint, para este su segundo LP de estudio, había compuesto una de esas obras completamente en clave de heavy clásico, una propuesta homogenea, rayando a una altura general alta, una demostración de como editar un disco compacto, sin fisuras aunque posiblemente también sin un mega single que fuese la presentación de la obra para mayor número de posibles fans, más allá del tema título. Estamos hablando de 1988 y de "Too late for living", disco del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de sus temas, en concreto "The rock" que habla bien del citado nivel medio alto de toda la obra de los estado unidenses, un tema del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Cloven Hoof - Warrior Of The Wasteland

 

WARRIOR  OF  THE  WASTELAND

Vamos con otra de las obras de los británicos "Cloven Hoof", otra banda un poco maltratada desde la perspectiva del gran público, que nació con todas las promesas basadas en un debut mucho más que notable, y que, quizá por la situación de la época, (comienzos de los 80) y la conocida saturación de bandas, quizá por metersela en el abarrotado cajon de la NWOBHM, se quedó solo en promesa y para el segundo de sus LP's se vio obligada a remodelar cosas, cambiar miembros, replantearse a través de inventos como un falso directo,enfocarse de nuevo con nueva imagen hacia un "segundo debut" ya en 1988, el que nos ocupa, el buen disco "Dominator". En realidad sería ya el tercero de esta banda formada en 1979, aunque el citado invento del falso directo es arriesgado de considerar como LP, el caso es que estamos ante un ejercicio de buen heavy metal de la old school, sobre todo en esa primer parte de su carrera, y este Dominator de 1988 contiene interesantes temas como este "Warrior of the wasteland" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Scorpions - Bad Boys Running Wild

 

BAD  BOYS  RUNNING  WILD

Vamos hoy de nuevo con un clásico, y que hay más clásico que Scorpions y su material ochentero, en concreto su dico de 1984 "Love at first sting" hogar de el archi famoso "Still loving you", una de esas canciones que ha trascendido las fronteras metálicas para pasar a ser patrimonio de la humanidad, y además, resulta que para 1984 la banda estaba a nivelón, se conocían ya de memoria, y tenían ese toque, ese don de saber lo que ofrecer para que su propuesta fuera atractiva para millones, estaban en su momento seguramente de mayor fama mundial. Otra de las canciones que utilizaron para promocionar su obra fue "Bad boys running wild", tipico single de Scorpions y canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.
