MADNESS  IS  KING

En muchos, o practicamente en todos los sitios se considera a esta banda germana como un grupo que practica un power metal de carácter folk aunque creo que esa manera de acotar su sonido es algo inprecisa, y a medida que avanza su carrera se acusa esa tendencia, así, tildarles con un poco de death melódico no está de más, de esa manera, podemos encontrar en el grupo rasgos sonoros desde el europower moderno sabatoniano al death melódico y folk de grupos también europeos, un tanto eluveitianos, sin caer nunca en ninguno de ellos por completo, dando así a su sonido unos rasgos personales reconocibles. un tanto neoclásicos en momentos con sonnido Falconeriano, o la tematica corsaria que te trae un aire Alestormiano sin caer en sus cliches festivos. Como digo la mezcla es como poco interesante y ya la van defendiendo a lo largo de más de una década. En este 2023 editan su cuarto LP de estudio, "Kingdom of exiles" que ha visto la luz de forma oficial el pasado 20 de enero, y hoy de dicha obra quiero dejar en el blog su tema inicial, "Madness is king" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Cruachan - The Reaper

 

THE  REAPER

La novena obra de estudio de los irlandeses Cruachan se titulará "The living and the dead" y verá la luz de forma oficial este próximo mes de marzo. El grupo ha ido desvelando poco a poco singles de adelanto que pertenecerán a esta obra desde 2020, el último de ellos, "The reaper" hace solo unos días, a finales de enero, y según la banda es un tema muy especial para el grupo, muy emotivo ya que se lo dedican al padre recientemente fallecido de uno de sus miembros, Keith faith, guitarra, voz y teclados. Como siempre en al referirnos a esta banda hablamos de ese sonido un tanto crudo, black céltico, folk metal, a medida que avanza su carrera cada vez más reconocido. Canciones para una vida - Powerwolf - Poison

 

POISON

Siempre parece ir de la mano el hecho del crecimiento de un grupo a niveles máximos, con el hecho de empezar a editar material que quizá de otra manera no se hubiese realizado, recopilatorios, discos en vivo, discos de versiones propias y ajenas, o singles aparentemente pertenecientes a ninguna obra como es el caso que hoy nos ocupa. Se trata del single de la canción "Poison", tema original de Alice Cooper, que los alemanes Powerwolf han aprovechado a versionar con la excusa del cumpleaños del artísta. Podemos ver la reflexión inicial de esta reseña como algo casi negativo, desde una perspectiva esclusivamente recaudatoria, o podemos hacerlo desde la oportunidad de tener más material adicional de un grupo de calidad, máxime en esta ocasión cuando el tema en cuestión tiene el nivel compositivo y contrastado de uno de esos temas fundamentales, como es "Poison". Seguro que cada uno tendremos nuestro propio enfoque, el caso es que el tema ha saildo de forma oficial hace un par de días y de él dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube. Un clásico.

Canciones para una vida - Magnus Karlsson's Free Fall - Hunt The Flame

 

HUNT  THE  FLAME

Cuarta entrega de la banda - proyecto en solitario, del multiinstrumentisata y compositor sueco Magnus Karlsson, que es uno de esos músicos implicados en multiples bandas de primera línea y colaborador en muchas otras bien sea a través de la composición de las canciones como a la interpretación de las mismas. En 2011 decide emprender su camino en solitario del que en este 2023 veremos su cuarto fruto en forma de LP, "Hunt The Flame", de la que en estos días nos llega su primer sencillo que será el que de nombre a la obra, un tema del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Saint Deamon - At Break Of Dawn

 

AT  BREAK  OF  DAWN

Los suecos Saint Deamon son una de esas bandas que van administrando quizá demasiado, sus esfuerzos compositivos, plasmándose estos en quizá también, demasiado poco volumen de LP's atendiendo a la cantidad de años que llevan en activo (desde 2006), y siendo solo cuatro los LP's editados incluyendo el último de ellos, "League of the serpent" que verá la luz de forma oficial este próximo 21 de abril de 2023. Desde luego la calidad nunca ha sido un problema, antes al contrario, no puede caber duda alguna de su capacidad para hacer e interpretar música, lo que agudiza esa sensación de quedarse corto mirando su discografía. El caso es que tenemos ya entre manos los primeros destellos del nuevo disco en forma del single de adelanto "At break of dawn", una confirmación más de todo lo expuesto, una canción de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Angus McSix - Master Of The Universe

 

MASTER  OF  THE  UNIVERSE

Desconozco exactamente cual fue el motivo de la salida de Thomas Winkler de la banda Gloryhammer, e igualmente si esta salida se hizo de manera digamos civilizada o de la otra, pero lo que si está claro es que esta historia que se nos presenta bajo el nombre de Angus McSix es una hisoria vieja como la música. Es decir, dejo un grupo por el motivo que sea, para dar salida a mi propio material, mi enfoque, en la línea absoluta compositiva de lo que venía haciendo en la banda original. Pongamonos en el caso uno, la salida fue traumática. Pues bien, el bueno de Thomas, a través de este primer adelanto, deja bien claro que es más que capaz de hacer un sonido al nivel de Gloryhammer sin el resto de sus ex compañeros. Pongamonos en el segundo supuesto, separación civilizada, consensuada y meditada, está claro que la compañía que se ha buscado para la obra el bueno de Thomas le hace ganar muchos enteros si es que se decide continuar con la banda, ya que nada menos que Seeb Levermann aparece tras los hilos de esta trama, se nota en lo compositivo, sobre todo en la parte de coros, y en lo sonoro, por lo que un enfoque por parte de Thomas de hacer un grupo a su gusto tambén cabría aquí como teoría. Sea como sea, los amantes del power están de enhorabuena ante la perspectiva que se abre, como queda patente en el single "Master of the universe" que sirve para presentar el primer disco de la banda, "And the sword of power" cuya salida oficial se espera para el mes de abril, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

BORN  IN  VALHALLA

De vuelta al proyecto germano "All For Metal" impulsado como proyecto personal de la discográfica AFM, siguen dando pasos adelante en lo que se refiere a la promoción de su primer LP del que de momento desconozco tanto el título que tendrá como por supuesto su fecha de lanzamiento. En estos días se ha promocionado su tercer single y yo hoy quiero dejar en el blog el segundo de ellos, "Born In Valhalla", un poco al calor de bandas como los suecos "Brothers of metal" está claro que la discográfica ha visto el filón y ha querido comerse su propia parte de ese pastel, veremos como evoluciona en el futuro. Canciones para una vida - Crowne - Champions

 

CHAMPIONS

Crowne, la banda sueca que tan buenas sensaciones nos diera en su debut "Kings in the north" en 2021, da su segundo paso en este inicio de 2023 con "Operation Phoenix" en lo que es indudablemente una confirmación de lo en serio que va esto, una demostración de la calidad que pondrá otra banda más de nivel máximo y origen sueco en la escena internacional dentro de ese sonido a medio camino entre el hard rock moderno y el heavy melódico, en una onda Eclipse, H.E.A.T., o Dynazty por ejemplo. El grupo es garantía de calidad aunque solo sea por el tipo de músicos que se ha juntado aquí, así, aparecen nombres de bandas tales como Dynazty, H.E.A.T. Europe o The Poodles, ahí es nada. Canciones para una vida - Isengard - Stormcrow

 

STORMCROW

No por muchas veces mencionado es menos cierto, que la década de los noventa, la segunda mitad sobre todo y el comienzo de los 2000 fueron años donde las bandas dentro del power metal de corte europeo y de temática fantástico histórica abundaron, encontraron un terreno perfecto para desarrollarse, retroalimentandose unas con otras hasta engrosar la legión de seguidores que seguían este tipo de sonido. Entre tantas bandas muchas de ellas apenas despuntaron, en ocasiones por falta de calidad, falta de constancia, o falta de promoción, pero es siempre un gusto sumergirse entre los grupos menos conocidos para tratar de descubrir pequeños tesoros en forma de canciones o de albumes completos que te sorprenden de alguna manera. En este marco encontramos a los suecos Isengard, con tal nombre tolkieniano uno se puede hacer idea de que cumplen con muchos de los clichés mencionados hoy, y así es. Es una banda claramente de temas sueltos para mí, de pescar en su discografía para descubrir momentos especiales como el que hoy dejo en el blog, perteneciente a su último LP de estudio "Crownless Majesty" de 2001, el tercero de la banda, el tema "Stormcrow", absolutamente evocador, lleno de ese toque fantástico y en cierta medida épico, canción de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

HALL  OF  THE  SLAIN

Vamos hoy con la banda serbia "Oathbringer", un grupo de reciente formación, (2020, 2019 si tenemos en cuenta su primer periodo como "Riddle of steel"). Estamos ante un sonido que podríamos considerar como heavy metal clásico con cierto tufillo true metalero y vcación épico fantástica. Parece igualmente que han empezado con las ideas muy claras puesto que su primer LP, del que hablaré en el blog, vio la luz este recién pasado 2022, y durante este 2023 verá la luz su segunda obra de estudio a la que pretenecerá este tema que hoy traigo al blog, el single "Hall of the slain", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Megadeth - Peace Sells

 

PEACE  SELLS

El 86 fue un gran año musicla dentro de nuestras fronteras metálicas, y concretamente en el terreno thrash se editaron importantes obras no solo a nivel compositivo sino además desde la perspectiva de las ventas. Entre los que dieron en el clavo en lo que a discos importantes en general se refiere estuvieron los estadounidense Megadeth, siempre controvertidos, siempre en ese filo para el gran público que les empuja hacia arriba o hacia abajo casi con igual impulso, pero más alla de eso, de esa eterna discusión, estamos ante uno de sus momentos cimbre en este 1986 con su "Peace sells... but who's Buying", por el alto nivel general de la obra, es decir que se mantiene estable rayando a gran altura desde el comienzo. Para ese año la banda estaba ya consolidada en lo que querían hacer, tenían un debut que les puso en el mapa precediendo este trabajo, y con el trataron de tapar algunas bocas. La obra abre impresionante y la primera mitad de la misma es simplemente intachable, buen ejemplo el tema que da nombre a la misma, "Peace sells", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube, todo un clásico del thrash metal.

Canciones para una vida - John Norum - Eternal Flame

 

ETERNAL  FLAME

Vamos hoy con un sonido enfocado al hard rock, aunque desde una perspectiva guitarrista siempre he visto a John Norum como heavy metal melódico aunque desde el enfoque vocal su sonido pueda ser facilmente enmarcable en el rock duro. El caso es que, tras su salida de Europe para iniciar su carrera en solitario, el guitarrista sueco siempre supo rodearse de buenos músicos a los que, sumando el buen hacer de él mismo, tan solo podía dar como resultado calidad. El primero de sus albumes se llamó "Total Control" de 1987, tras la salida de Europe despues de la gira de "The Final Countdown", y para él contó con la colaboración vocal en tres de sus temas del cantante Goran Edman, el resto fue cantado por él mismo. Como decía más arriba, heavy metal melódico, hard 'n heavy o hard rock, sea como fuere calidad total, como queda bien patente en temas como "Eternal Flame" de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Running Wild - Calico Jack

 

CALICO  JACK

Siempre es un gustazo retornar a las grandes bandas, y más hacerlo a las preferidas personales en su momento más brillante, en este caso a los germanos Running Wild en la década de los 80, donde llenos por la potente pegada, la incontrolable energía, descargaban su furia metálica sobre un público sediento de épica, jamás llegaron a tener el favor unánime del gran público, pero en lo personal desde siempre a mí me conquistaron con su propuesta. "Port Royal" llegaba en 1988, para dar forma al cuarto de sus albumes de estudio, como digo en un momento de la banda en que no hacían concesiones, inmersos ya de lleno en la temática pirata que guiaría el resto de su carrera, una obra fundamental, influyente, demoledoramente adictiva, llena de potencia y melodías Runniwildianas, de la que hoy dejo en el blog otro de sus temas, en esta ocasión "Calico Jack", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Metallica - Screaming Suicide

 

SCREAMING  SUICIDE

Ya tenemos encima el nuevo material de estudio de los estadounidenses Metallica, una banda que todo el mundo conoce a nivel planetario, ajeno o no al mundo metlálico, es una de esas marcas ya en si mismas que trascienden su propio nombre e incluso sonido. Igualmente, y en gran medida debido a su globalización personal son siempre foco de polémica, sobre todo por parte de aquellos que les vieron nacer musicalmente, que les han conocido desde sus inicios, siendo parte histórica del metal con su primera parte compositiva, básicamente la década de los ochenta una vez más, donde en gran medida dieron a conocer el thrash metal de la forma más global, aunque hoy en día, todos estaremos de acuerdo en que esos Metallica están bien lejos de los actuales, en todo, podríamos hacer una analogía con la portada de su último LP, "72 Seasons" que verá la luz este próximo mes de abril, una portada que muestra solo la "M" de su nombre, muestra del poderoso mundo marketing que detrás llevan, y casi un simbolo de lo poco que de sus comienzos queda de ellos. Si nos fijamos en su discografía, este será solo su duodécimo LP de estudio, que contrasta con la cifra que multiplica por 10 su número de discos oficiales en vivo, esto ya no parece tanto un grupo al uso como una factoría de dividendos en forma de merchandising. El tema musical estrictamente es otro, nadie a estas alturas puede pretender encontrar en una obra nueva de Metallica un segundo "Ride the lightning" por no hablar de un segundo "Kill 'em all", esto ahora es otro tema, muy diseñado, tan rebuscado y mezclado que ha perdido por completo su esencia inicial, por más que se adorne, sin embargo hablamos de un buen grupo, y siempre, con todo lo que conlleva, Metallica sonará bien, pero no para ser Metallica. Cada nuevo sencillo es una demostración, por ejemplo "Screaming Suicide" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube de su, en pocas horas, millonario en visitas clip oficial, poco más que añadir, Metallica, fenómeno global, seguro que tu tendrás tu propia filosofía al respecto.

Canciones para una vida - Glittertind - Varder I Brann

 

VARDER  I  BRANN

Glittertind es una banda noruega de esas que se refugió compositivamente en el floklore nórdico, primero, al inicio de su carrera, agarrandose a un concepto metálico para después suavizarlo a partir de su tercera obra y encaminarlo a un rock indie. La banda se forma en 2001, y como digo sus dos primeras obras pueden catalogarse sin ningún problema como folk metal, además muy interesante. En 2003 editan su debut, "Evige Asatro" que vería su continuación en 2009 con su segundo LP "Landkjenning". A partir de ese momento cambian el rumbo compositivo hacia ese rock introspectivo que se aleja del heavy metal. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones que componen su segundo album de estudio, concretamente "Varder I Brann", con una atmósfera nórdica a la que añadiendo las letras en noruego nos dibuja una evocadora escena vikinga, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
