Desde 2007 lleva en activo esta banda estado unidense de heavy metal de la escuela americana y en la onda de grupos como Skull Fist por ejemplo. Así pues, con un trasfondo clásico, y un baño actual desarrollan su sonido a lo largo ya de cuatro LP's de estudio a los que hay que sumar sus dos EP's iniciales. El primero de esos LP's llevó por título "Over the top" editado en 2010, y de dicha obra quiero dejar hoy en el blog su canción "Live free or die" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

SHAKE  YOUR  FOUNDATIONS

Hablar de AC/DC en muchas ocasiones y para muchos metalheads, como ocurre con otras bandas de ese nivel de popularidad, es hacerlo de su historia pasada y presente, es hacerlo de las diferentes épocas, de los dos frontman diferentes que han guiado su camino vocal, es siempre, y como siempre en estos casos, injusto, pues, sobre todo en este caso concreto, cada obra de los australianos tiene algo que ofrecer, y defender lo que muchos defienden de que solo la época Scott o que desde inicios de los 80, que viene a ser lo mismo, la banda solo se ha repetido cada vez con menos acierto, es como mínimo injusto. Más allá de lo personal en lo que a gustos se refiere, las obras de la banda siempre dejan algo que destacar. En 1985 editaban su décimo LP de estudio, "Fly on the wall", y de él quiero hoy dejar en el blog una de sus canciones como prueba argumental de lo anteriormente esgrimido, concretamente "Shake your foundations" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Dragonland - Astronomy

 

ASTRONOMY

Cambio de siglo, escena sueca, género power metal sinfónico de corte europeo, todo a priori parece perfecto para unirse a las bandas llenas de éxito que funcionaron con esos parámetros, sin embargo el grupo parece que nunca tuvo el favor del grueso del gran público, y por ello quizá, la falta de continuidad cercenó definitivamente su despegue más arriba de lo que lograron llegar. Quizá una vez más la saturación de ese tipo de bandas en esa época y con esas circunstancias les hizo permanecer agazapados hasta nuestros días, en que siguen intentandolo, con lanzamiento de obra incluido en 2022, el que ha sido su sexto LP de estudio, como digo un bagaje un tenato escaso para más de dos décadas de carrera. 2006 fue el año que veía su cuarto intento compositivo encarnado en el LP "astronomy", un disco que pone bien de manifiesto las capacidades, la versatilidad que esta banda ha demostrado en muchas ocasiones, y que siempre en potencia, les hizo merecedores de mucho más de lo cosechado, buen ejemplo es el tema que da nombre a la obra, "Astronomy", del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Def Leppard - Rock Rock Till' You Drop

 

ROCK  ROCK  TILL'  YOU  DROP

Es siempre una lástima que bandas o artistas que al menos en parte le deban su buen nombre musical al heavy metal, terminen por renegar de esa parte de su carrera, de su historia, una cosa es que la evolución compositiva les aleje de sus orígenes, como es el caso de estos británicos, y otra renegar. Los tres primeros discos entre 1980 y 1983 tienen un concepto mucho más guitarrero, siempre en ese límite entre el hard rock y el heavy, El tercer LP, "Pyromania" de 1983, fue un gran disco, bastante guitarrero, con el condimento siempre "Def Leppard" de single facilote y enganchón, pero de vocación mas hard 'n heavy, como sus otras dos primeras obras. Con tan solo una pequeña pincelada de su capacidad compositiva, es una auténtica pena que la banda holandesa "Stailinn Drakk" haya dejado en pausa su proyecto con un único EP editado en esa clave de power sinfónico de corte absolutamente europeo. Sin apoyo discográfico esperemos que tan solo estén cogiendo energía para dar un nuevo paso compositivo y comenzar realmente su carrera pues a juzgar por su debut de 2016, como digo en formato EP, "Raise your sword!", podrían llegar a dar mucha guerra. Canciones para una vida - High Tension - Kings And Queens

 

KINGS  AND  QUEENS

Si eres de los que gustan del sonido ochentero germano, concretamente seguidor de los por entonces enormes Accept con respecto a lo que tenían alrededor en su escena natal, entonces te gustará "High Tension", quienes sin caer en la clonación del sonido de aquellos, y añadiendo otros elementos usados también por otros como Krokus o Victory, desarrollaron su carrera, principalmente en la insuperable década de los 80, dejando un total de cinco LP's de estudio de heavy metal de la old school. 1987 ponía punto final a esa época más activa y acertada compositivamente de la banda a través de su tercer LP "Masters of madness", una obra muy en consonancia a lo que habían estado haciendo y que podría haber presagiado que la banda iba a llegar bien alto, algo que realmente en lo que a reconocimiento y ventas se refiere nunca conseguirían, lo de los méritos musicales es ya otra cuestión. De este tercer disco hoy quiero dejar en el blog su canción "Kings and queens", de sabor muy clásico, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Bathory - Through Blood By Thunder

 

THROUGH  BLOOD  BY THUNDER

Para la época de este disco, 1991, la propuesta sonora de Bathory seguía siendo muy innovadora, única practicamente, y por lo tanto absolutamente minoritaria y poco comprendida diría yo, pero ya se trataba, con este "Twilight of the gods" de su sexto LP de estudio, y en muchas escenas sobre todo nórdicas, había creado escuela y futuros grupos del norte, y posteriormente de casi cualquier lado, seguirían la senda que Quorthon había iniciado. Por encima de todo lo demás las atmósfera inconfundibes aplicadas por este músico en sus obras son su sello personal, la forma vocal y la longitud de sus temas son además casi regla en este concepto personal compositivo tan imitado posteriormente. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas de la obra "Twilight of the gods", concretamente "Through blood by Thunder" que explota esa vertiente a medio gas tan reconocible y llena de épica, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Motley Crue - Bastard

 

BASTARD

Hablemos hoy de la vertiente americana de los clásicos de toda la vida, de ese tipo de benadas que han alcanzado un nivel mitologico superior y han sido indudable influencia sobre otras bandas, uno de esos grupos que suenan a gentes del metal al igual que a otros ajenos a él, se trata de Motley Crue, la banda angelina que para muchos fue pionera y precursora del sonido glam, aunque en sus inicios fuese un grupo que bordeaba el hard 'n heavy del que tantas veces he hablado en el blog y que tanto disfruto al tener elementos de ambos subgéneros, el hard rock y el heavy metal, que tantas bandas dió en la dorada década de los ochenta. Hoy quiero volver la mirada a sus comienzos, los que marcaron tanto su auge, los momentos más rockeros, más metálicos, más heavys en definitiva, sus primeros dos LP's, entre 1981 y 1983, y concretamente su segundo esfuerzo compositivo, "Shout At The devil" de 1983, disco del que hoy dejo en el blog el tema "Bastard", del que dejo un enlace a Youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Fastway - We Become One

 

WE  BECOME  ONE

Fastway es una de esas bandas que en los ochenta bordearon más de una vez el límite en ocasiones difuso entre el hard rock y el heavy metal, aunque se decantaron más en general por el primero de ambos géneros, y se trata además de una de esas bandas creadas a partir de la union de exmiembros de otras, en este caso Eddie Clarke "Fast", guitarrista ex de Motorhead y el bajista Pete Way, ex de UFO, el nombre de la banda queda pues evidenciado juntando el apodo de uno con el apellido de otro. Curiosamente Pete Way aparece en los créditos de la obra cuando en realidad desde el inicio dejó el proyecto al darle el destino la oportunidad de tocar con Ozzy. La banda se ha mantenido en activo hasta 2018 a través de tres épocas, la más genuina la primera, (como suele suceder en estos casos), entre 1982 y 1991, en la que editan seis de sus siete LP's de estudio, el primero de ellos de 1983, "Fastway" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas más cercanos al heavy metal, "We become One", y del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Kinetic Dissent - Cults Of Unreason

 

CULTS  OF  UNREASON

Aunque tardío, en lo que se refiere al concepto hibrido a medio camino del heavy metal de corte clásico y el thrash metal, en 1991 "Kinetic Dissent" dejaban el único fruto de su carrera en forma de LP "I will fight no more forever". Tardío, ya que en lo que se refiere a ese concepto, un lustro antes o algo más las bandas, muchas de ellas alericanas como es el caso, había dado ese paso de una manera natural, y el resulado lógico sería, a comienzos casi de la década de los ochenta, el surgimiento del thrash como sonido propiamente dicho. Aún así, el ejercicio compositivo de esta banda es un gran ejemplo de esa evolución compositiva que llevaba de un género al otro, cambiando la velocidad y después simplificando a lo básico. El grupo no sacaría tras este trabajo ningún otro desapareciendo en 1992 tras solo cinco años de su formación. Canciones para una vida - Frozen Crown - Call Of The North

 

CALL  OF  THE  NORTH

Ya tenemos aquí los primeros ecos del cuarto LP de estudio de los italianos Frozen Crown, un disco que debe hacerles mantener al sus fieles e intentar atraer a nuevos seguidores después de que en 2020, tras su anterior trabajo, buena parte de la banda dejase la formación quedando solo la mente compositiva, guitarra y teclados Federico Mondelli, y la cabeza visible y cantante Giada "Jade" Etro. Ellos mismos han pretendido un album sin añadir invitados en palabras propias para "consolidar" el sonido de la banda. El caso es que el album verá la luz en el proximo mes de Marzo de 2023, y hoy dejo en el blog el primer single de la misma que es el que dará nombre a la obra, "Call of the north", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Sellsword - Sagaborne

 

SAGABORNE

Ya he traido al blog a estos británicos, "Sellsword", una banda que no deja de sorprender por lo desconocido y al tiempo la calidad, el potencial, el buen hacer de sus, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, dos únicas obras de estudio, "...And now we ride" de 2016 y "...Unto the breach" de 2019. Hablamos de una heavy metal muy bien ejecutado, con influjo tanto power, como no carente de una estructura técnica usada para partes instrumentales del death melódico, a pesar de escucharlo no deja uno de descubrir el buen gusto compositivo y el monumental talento para poder llegar muy arriba si lo hacen bien en el futuro, aunque deberán para futuros albumes sustituir la figura del cantante que en 2020 dejó la formación. Veremos por donde salen en su tercer LP. El tema es que sus dos primeras obras son absolutamente recomendables, y hoy dejo en el blog otro de los temas que componen el segundo de ellos, concretamente la canción "Sagaborne" de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Arch Enemy - The Watcher

 

THE  WATCHER

Volver a Arch Enemy es siempre un gustazo, sobre todo en los últimos años en los que, como sucede con otras bandas tipo Amorphis, cada material publicado es sinónimo de éxito, seguro de calidad, y este "Deceivers" es una mustra perfecta de lo que digo. Siempre bañados por la etiqueta de sonido extremo, si uno va más allá de clichés se da cuenta de que el sonido heavy metal está muy presente en este grupo, y particularmente diría yo en esta obra. El tema es que la portentosa voz, agresiva y contundente de Alissa, más allá de su imagen y capacidad para atraer los focos también desde lo fisico, puede eclipsar otras facetas de una banda que siempre cuida los detalles desde el punto de vista musical y compositivo. Obra muy completa este "Deceivers" de este 2022, cuyos temas rayan a gran altura pero sobre todo de manera homogénea, quizá no sean tres o cuatro de un 10, pero si son todos dignos de un notable, algo que es siempre a la larga más deseable. Canciones para una vida - Morton - Grand Awakening

 

GRAND  AWAKENING

Mucho tiempo se ha tomado la banda Morton para dar continuidad a su debut, o lo que viene a ser lo mismo ha tardado mucho tiempo en editar un nuevo trabajo el bueno de Max Morton, cantante, guitarrista y principal compositor e impulsor ucarniano del proyecto que lleva su nombre ya que desde 2011 en que editase su primer LP "Come read the words forgotten" no había dado el paso hacia su continuación que en este 2022 ha visto la luz bajo el título de "Horror of Daniel Wagner". Digamos que su sonido no es de factura sencilla, sin llegar a caer en una fórmula de costuras estrechas va tomando elementos varios desde el power al concepto progresivo sin llegar a caer en ninguno de ellos y en todas al mismo tiempo. Lo que siempre esgrime sin lugar a dudas es una calidad compositiva e incluso productiva fuera de duda. En este segundo trabajo en formato LP nos presenta una obra conceptual que da una variada muestra de su gusto compositivo, y de ella hoy quiero dejar en el blog el tema que cierra la obra, "Grand Awakening", el más largo del disco y que sirve bien como escaparate de su potencial y de sus elementos recurrentes, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Crom - Higher Ground

 

HIGHER  GROUND

El cuarto disco de estudio de los germanos "Crom" ya está mostrando sus primeros secretos, y esperamos su salida oficial a la venta este próximo mes de enero de 2023. Parece ser que la banda va acortando los tiempos de composición, para, perpetuados en su concepto musical, dar una mayor continuidad a una carrera que desde su magnifico debut de 2008 llevo siguiendo con gran interés. Además el EP de 2021 ha servido para subrayar esa sensación de banda más al uso, tener menos la sensación de que iba a ser un grupo más desaparecido más pronto que tarde. El nuevo disco "The era of darkness" deja en estos días el single "Higher Ground" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.
