Volviendo a los clásicos, a esos músicos de siempre que tanto han dado al heavy metal, quiero recuperar de nuevo el sonido del guitarrista estadounidense, uno de los máximos exponentes del subgénero shred, que siempre supo además de darle el toque justo de virtuosismo sin excederse, rodearse de grandes músicos lo que le hizo tener esa sensación de banda con todas las de la ley. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su cuarto LP de estudio, "Screaming Symphony", de 1996, con el fenomeno vocal Rob Rock acompañando, con su temática cristiana como siempre, es uno de los grandes exponentes del llamado metal cristiano, y el tema para hoy será "You are the fire" un portentos, y poderoso tema que sirve perfectamente entre otras cosas para demostrar la capacidad total y absoluta vocal del bueno de Rob Rock, una canción de esas que te llenan de energía y de la que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Hexx - Fear No Evil

 

FEAR  NO  EVIL

De vuelta  a los polifacéticos estadounidenses "Hexx", una de esas seguramente pocas bandas que bajo el mismo nombre ha cultivado tres géneros diferentes dentro del metal, pasando del heavy metal de la old school al thrash y al death, siendo estas etapas bastante reconocibles, es decir, no se trata de pequeños destellos o tendencias sino de practicar esos subgéneros con todas las de la ley. El caso es que, como le puede suceder por ejemplo a un pato, que camina, vuela y nada, pero seguramente en ninguno de los tres casos sea el mejor en ello, esta banda se ha sabido defender en todo lo que ha intentado, a lo largo de su discografía de cinco LP's de estudio, pero no destacó realmente en ninguno de sus intentos, aunque no todo en la vida es eso de ser el mejor, y desde luego "feeling" transmiten. Retornando a su primera etapa, y a su primera obra, en clave de heavy metal de corte clásico y americano, quiero hoy dejar otra de las canciones de su "No Escape" de 1984, otra de las destacables del disco en mi opinión, "Fear no evil" de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Heavens Gate - Metal Hymn

 

METAL  HYMN

Otra prueba más de la categoría, de la magnitud de la banda alemana "Heavens Gate", fue el hecho de que apenas unos meses tras la salida a la venta de su monumental segundo LP de estudio "Livin' in hysteria" de 1991, editasen un EP con tres temas nuevos y una versión propia que quedaron fuera de los temas elegidos para el citado album, y atendiendo a la calidad de esos temas "extra" queda patente el nivelón de la obra, de la banda y de sus comienzos. Es evidente que los músicos aquí implicados deben ser tratados como los grandes artístas que son y que después han seguido siendo y no solo en el apartado interpretativo, sino también en el técnico con su particiàción en la producción de otros grandes nombres. De este EP del 91, "More Hysteria" quiero hoy dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, "Metal Hymn" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Krank - Rented Heat

 

RENTED  HEAT

 De nuevo otra banda completamente desconocida para la mayoría de metalheads, los estadounidenses "Krank", una vez más representando a ese nutrido grupo de bandas que desarrollaron una primera actividad bastante anónima así como enormemente prometedora que no terminaría por hacerles destacar en el universo de grupos que luchaban por conseguirlo. Es también una de esas bandas que retomarían su actividad en un segundo intento por alcanzar el éxito unos años más tarde con poco cambio en ese sentido, y es de los que siguen en activo a pesar de llevar desde que comenzaron su segundo periodo en 1995 tan solo dos LP's más de estudio. El mejor de sus momentos se daría, como suele suceder en muchos de esos casos, en la etapa inicial que en el caso de "Krank" fue entre los años 82 y 87, editando el meritorio debut "Hideous" en 1986, en una clave de potente heavy metal de la escuela americana, casi esbozando un proto power, en una obra ,muy recomendable, de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog la canción "Rented heat", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Mob Rules - Ship Of Fools

 

SHIP  OF  FOOLS

Los alemanes Mob Rules son una de esas bandas que llevan un montón de años en activo, (desde mediados de los 90), habiendo desarrollado su carrera a un ritmo pausado aunque constante, ya que solo 9 son los LP's editados por el grupo, eso sí, llenos de calidad y mostrando siempre ese power melódico de corte europeo del  que han hecho su sello propio, su seña de identidad. El cuarto de sus LP's, cuando ya llevaban una década de actividad fue "Among the gods" de 2004, fue un disco que ponía el punto y final a parte de la historia de la banda con la salida de dos de sus miembros, (guitarra y bajo) y que en lo compositivo daría paso a un sonido algo menos power, en el sentido extricto de la palabra, dando paso a mayor flirteo con el componente progresivo y siempre de fondo ese toque melódico tan marca de la casa. Los discos de Mobe Rules no cambian de estilo bruscamente, pero si muestran una evolución ligera según el momento histórico personal en que se encuentra la banda, notandose además la entrada y salida de nuevos miembros en cada momento. Canciones para una vida - Domine - The Aquilonia Suite

 

THE  AQUILONIA  SUITE

Siempre tengo esa sensación en lo que rodea a esta banda, en el sentido de regularmente mirar su actividad con la esperanza de ver una resurrección de su producción discografíca. Desde el inicio del grupo, sobre todo desde su segundo LP me pareció que estaba ate una de esas bandas que marcaban la diferencia en lo suyo, y hablando de los años finales de los 90 y comienzos de los 2000, y en la escena italiana, la comparación con los por entonces omnipresentes  Rhapsody era inevitable, aunque en este caso en concreto creo que un tanto injusta, su propuesta siempre fue para mi gusto lo suficientemente original e indudablemente de calidad como para no buscar clichés clónicos con nadie. El caso es que siempre que tengo ese impulso de mirar si la banda se ha reactivado veo lo mismo, teoricamente en activo, practicamente desaparecidos, una pena, eso siempre consigue que revise por enésima vez su material editado, alguno de sus 5 LP's de estudio para saciar ese repentino hambre de sonido "Domine". Hoy quiero dejar otro de los temas de su penúltimo LP, "Emperor of the black runes", de 2004, concretamente "The Aquilonia Suite", con esa carga extra para los fanáticos de Conan entre los que indudablemente me encuentro, un temazo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Medieval Steel - Soldier Of Fortune

 

SOLDIER  OF  FORTUNE

Que gran ejemplo en su conjunto es la obra completa en general y el tema "Soldier Of Fortune" en particular de que las bandas que en su momento no tuvieron el reconocimiento, la capacidad de alcanzar el éxito, en potencia eran bandas con todas las de la ley, eran grupos que podrían haber desarrollado una carrera al nivel de muchos otros grupos pero siempre sucede que, por multitud de circunstancias los grupos se encuentran con inconvenientes que les hacen no llegar a florecer de la manera natural que deberían haberlo hecho. En la banda "Medieval Steel" se dan esas circunstancias, creados a inicios de los ochenta y a pesar de un material inicial excelente no llegaron a sacar la cabeza entre la marea de bandas coetaneas y tres décadas más tarde en un segundo intento comenzaron a mostrar de nuevo ese potencial evidente que en este 2022 ve la confirmación definitiva, con su segundo LP "Gods Of Steel" del que dejo hoy en el blog su tema "Soldier of fortune", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

BUCCANEERS  INN

Recuperamos hoy el sonido clásico de los finlandeses recién resucitados en lo que a lo prouctivo musical se refiere, a través de una de las obras de la banda que a mi personalmente más me gustan, su segundo LP de estudio "Sword's song", de 2003, aún en pleno surgimiento de la banda presentando ese sonido tan prototípico del grupo a medio camino entre muchas cosas, así rasgos sinfónicos, otros power, otros épicos y otros death metálicos se unen en una amalgama que resulta muy rica con la utilización de dos estilos vocales masculino-femenino, gutural-limpio. Canciones para una vida - Fairyland - Rebirth

 

REBIRTH

Las bandas, los estilos emergentes, son todos hijos de las épocas en las que nacieron, en muchos sentidos consecuencias de las fórmulas que iban funcionando y a finales de los 90 y comienzos de los 2000 la cantidad de bandas que nacían al calor del power sinfónico y de vocación épica, pero comstruida a base de arreglos y ornamentaciones era enorme. Siempre hay un espejo prototípico de esos años en el que se miraban muchos, los inevitables Rhapsody, y justa o injustamente dicha comparación mezclaba calidad y cantidad, haciendo a muchos saturarse ante semejante avalancha de bandas repitiendo esa fórmula. Fairyland, fue una banda francesa que se decantó por ese sendero, y siempre fue uno de esos grupos quizá muy penalizados por esa comparación seguramente sin merecer tanto castigo. La banda se forma en 1997 y tras tres cambios de nombre en 2003 adoptan definitivamente el nombre "Fairyland" con el que siguen en activo desde entonces. Tan solo 4 LP's reafirman si se quiere esa penalización en forma de una irregular carrera no exenta por otra parte de momentos brillantes, pero diluidos en la abarrotada escena a la que enfocaron. Su primera obra de estudio fue "Of wars in Osyrhia", de 2003, y de ella hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas que la componen, "Rebirth" que creo es buen ejemplo de sus virtudes y de sus errores, según el enfoque, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dreamtale - King Of Kings

 

KING  OF  KINGS

"Dreamtale" es uno de esos grupos power finlandeses que nunca han encabezado el movimiento musical de su escena propia, pero es que Finlandia es una de esas escenas casi infinitas en cuanto al número de bandas, sobre todo en proporción a su población. El caso es que "Dreamtale" que lleva ya en esto de la música como banda y bajo ese nombre desde 1999, que ya es decir, ocho LP's de estudio respaldan su actividad y sin duda alguna se nota la escuela nórdica a la que pretenecen, sin embargo, por uno u otro motivo tengo siempre la sensación de que son de esos grupos de segunda línea, al menos en lo referente al reconocimiento, la calidad sin duda está de su lado. A comienzos de este mes de abril editaron este "Everlasting Flame" que hace el número 8 en su discografía, y para el que la banda ha dado un giro en su interpretación vocal, ya que cambiaron su tradición vocalista masculina por la femenina, y para ello contaron desde 2019 con la cantante finlandesa Nitte Valo, que se encargó de poner voz a Battle Beast en su primera etapa por ejemplo, su trabajo más conocido. El resultado con "Dreamtale" parece bastante acertado, la siempre poderosa voz de la cantante se ha acoplado muy bien a las composiciones de Dreamtale, como queda patente desde el comienzo del disco con el tema que lo abre, "King of Kings" y del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - Rebellion In Dreamland

 

REBELLION  IN  DREAMLAND

Lo que en la década de los 90 se tornaba decadencia, horfandad, soledad en solo algunos bastiones inquebrantables dentro del heavy metal de corte clásico, se tornaba crecimiento, diversificación, en otros subgéneros más o menos nuevos, evolucionados de aquel heavy metal primigenio que parecía, (solo parecia) extinguirse, entre otros el power que florecía en multiples escenas, destacando por encima de todas la europea, y dentro de la alemana, Hansen, a quien el subgénero debe y deberá tanto, dirigía con mano metálica su destino a través de obras como "Land of the free" de 1995. Magna obra, completa, enorme en ejecución e inspiración tanto creativa para los que la parieron como creadora para quienes la imitaron, que no serían pocos, un deleite para los iniciados en ese instante y una cantera iniciadora para otros, un brillante espejo que aún destella y destila calidad y que sigue enganchando como por ejemplo a través del impresionante "rebellion in dreamland" que la abre, destapando un tarro de las esencias que no cesa en todo la obra, un tema este "rebellion in dreamland" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Vicious Rumors - When Love Comes Down

 

WHEN  LOVE  COMES  DOWN

Retornando a la idea de ese momento dificil que el heavy metal como sonido en si mismo vivió a inicios de los 90, la irrupción de otros sonido mucho menos puristas, más sucietes, la evolución que el propio heavy metal había sufrido hacia los distintos nichos, y la sensación general de que lo mejor en ese sentido había ya pasado no fue algo en lo que los estadounidenses "Vicious Rumors" tuvieran en cuenta, editando en 1991 su cuarto LP de estudio en plena vena heavy, completamente clásico, sin inventos tanto en el sentido de intentar vender más adaptando su sonido a lo que se llevaba, como en el hecho de que se podría haber fechado el sonido facilmente cinco añoa atrás, y habernos quedado tan anchos. El caso es que como algunos otros, "Vicious Rumors" supo mantener el espíritu de la old school muy vivo en esos años tan complicados, y eso es muy de agradecer. Obra muy recomendable en su conjunto de la que hoy voy a dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, en concreto uno con una cierta vocación de medio tiempo, "When love comes down", de la que dejo un enlace a  youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Axel Rudi Pell - Land Of The Giants

 

LAND  OF  THE  GIANTS

Recuperando el material clásico de nuevo del guitarrista alemán Axel Rudi Pell, en esta ocasión a través de su segundo LP "Nasty Reputation" de 1991, encontramos auténticas joyas de temas, vemos ese momento por entonces fresco de su sonido, con todos los elementos que han terminado por ser seña de identidad de sus composiciones posteriores, y de este citado disco quiero hoy dejar otro de sus temas, quizá el que más me gusta de la obra, "Land of the giants" que muestra una de las tesituras compositivas en que mejor se desenvuelve el músico, la de esos temas largos, con cambios de ritmo, que crean atmósferas como preparando esos punteos marca de la casa para dejarte ese sabor de boca como perfecto, con esa sensación de tener que volver de inmediato a escuchar la misma canción de nuevo, de no hacersete larga a pesar de que en muchas ocasiones este tipo de temas se van por encima de los diez minutos, creo sinceramente que es uno de los puntos fuertes de Axel y aquí lo realiza con maestría apoyado por entonces, (1991) en la voz enorme de Rob Rock, antes de la era Jeff Scott Soto y de la Gioeli. Canciones para una vida - Civil War - Invaders

 

INVADERS

Cuarto LP de estudio de los suecos "Civil War", haciendo honor a su nombre nacidos de la excisión de su banda madre "Sabaton" en 2012, donde tres de sus miembros salieron de la banda por incompatibilidad entre los miembros creando "Civil War". Indudablemente asentados como banda, lanzarán la citada cuarta obra "Invaders" a mediados de junio. Una vez más, a juzgar por lo que se desprende de su primer adelanto, un heavy power de raices clásicas en el que se debe notar el cambio de cantante, saliendo Patrik Johansson que da el relevo a Kelly Sundown además de la incorporación de Thobbe Englund a la guitarra. El primer adelanto es el tema que da nombre a la obra, "Invaders", y de él dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Alestorm - Magellan's Expedition

 

MAGELLAN'S  EXPEDITION

Es evidente el nivel alcanzado por estos escoceses a lo largo de los años, el estatus al que han accedido que les ha llevado a ser cabeza absoluta del concepto que les ha hecho ser imitados por ya muchas otras bandas, explotando a la perfección la temática corsaria pero desde una perspectiva mucho más jocosa que la propuesta por Running Wild, esto siempre ha sido otra historia. En este 2022 la banda presenta su disco "Seventh Rum Of A seventh Rum", siempre con esos guiños al mundo metálico al que representan tan bien, el séptimo disco ya de su discografía que promete seguir la línea de lo anteriormente propuesto a juzgar por el primero de sus adelantos, "Magellan's Expedition", del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.
