Canciones para una vida - Fairyland - Rebirth

 

REBIRTH

Las bandas, los estilos emergentes, son todos hijos de las épocas en las que nacieron, en muchos sentidos consecuencias de las fórmulas que iban funcionando y a finales de los 90 y comienzos de los 2000 la cantidad de bandas que nacían al calor del power sinfónico y de vocación épica, pero comstruida a base de arreglos y ornamentaciones era enorme. Siempre hay un espejo prototípico de esos años en el que se miraban muchos, los inevitables Rhapsody, y justa o injustamente dicha comparación mezclaba calidad y cantidad, haciendo a muchos saturarse ante semejante avalancha de bandas repitiendo esa fórmula. Fairyland, fue una banda francesa que se decantó por ese sendero, y siempre fue uno de esos grupos quizá muy penalizados por esa comparación seguramente sin merecer tanto castigo. La banda se forma en 1997 y tras tres cambios de nombre en 2003 adoptan definitivamente el nombre "Fairyland" con el que siguen en activo desde entonces. Tan solo 4 LP's reafirman si se quiere esa penalización en forma de una irregular carrera no exenta por otra parte de momentos brillantes, pero diluidos en la abarrotada escena a la que enfocaron. Su primera obra de estudio fue "Of wars in Osyrhia", de 2003, y de ella hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas que la componen, "Rebirth" que creo es buen ejemplo de sus virtudes y de sus errores, según el enfoque, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dreamtale - King Of Kings

 

KING  OF  KINGS

"Dreamtale" es uno de esos grupos power finlandeses que nunca han encabezado el movimiento musical de su escena propia, pero es que Finlandia es una de esas escenas casi infinitas en cuanto al número de bandas, sobre todo en proporción a su población. El caso es que "Dreamtale" que lleva ya en esto de la música como banda y bajo ese nombre desde 1999, que ya es decir, ocho LP's de estudio respaldan su actividad y sin duda alguna se nota la escuela nórdica a la que pretenecen, sin embargo, por uno u otro motivo tengo siempre la sensación de que son de esos grupos de segunda línea, al menos en lo referente al reconocimiento, la calidad sin duda está de su lado. A comienzos de este mes de abril editaron este "Everlasting Flame" que hace el número 8 en su discografía, y para el que la banda ha dado un giro en su interpretación vocal, ya que cambiaron su tradición vocalista masculina por la femenina, y para ello contaron desde 2019 con la cantante finlandesa Nitte Valo, que se encargó de poner voz a Battle Beast en su primera etapa por ejemplo, su trabajo más conocido. El resultado con "Dreamtale" parece bastante acertado, la siempre poderosa voz de la cantante se ha acoplado muy bien a las composiciones de Dreamtale, como queda patente desde el comienzo del disco con el tema que lo abre, "King of Kings" y del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

REBELLION  IN  DREAMLAND

Lo que en la década de los 90 se tornaba decadencia, horfandad, soledad en solo algunos bastiones inquebrantables dentro del heavy metal de corte clásico, se tornaba crecimiento, diversificación, en otros subgéneros más o menos nuevos, evolucionados de aquel heavy metal primigenio que parecía, (solo parecia) extinguirse, entre otros el power que florecía en multiples escenas, destacando por encima de todas la europea, y dentro de la alemana, Hansen, a quien el subgénero debe y deberá tanto, dirigía con mano metálica su destino a través de obras como "Land of the free" de 1995. Magna obra, completa, enorme en ejecución e inspiración tanto creativa para los que la parieron como creadora para quienes la imitaron, que no serían pocos, un deleite para los iniciados en ese instante y una cantera iniciadora para otros, un brillante espejo que aún destella y destila calidad y que sigue enganchando como por ejemplo a través del impresionante "rebellion in dreamland" que la abre, destapando un tarro de las esencias que no cesa en todo la obra, un tema este "rebellion in dreamland" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Vicious Rumors - When Love Comes Down

 

WHEN  LOVE  COMES  DOWN

Retornando a la idea de ese momento dificil que el heavy metal como sonido en si mismo vivió a inicios de los 90, la irrupción de otros sonido mucho menos puristas, más sucietes, la evolución que el propio heavy metal había sufrido hacia los distintos nichos, y la sensación general de que lo mejor en ese sentido había ya pasado no fue algo en lo que los estadounidenses "Vicious Rumors" tuvieran en cuenta, editando en 1991 su cuarto LP de estudio en plena vena heavy, completamente clásico, sin inventos tanto en el sentido de intentar vender más adaptando su sonido a lo que se llevaba, como en el hecho de que se podría haber fechado el sonido facilmente cinco añoa atrás, y habernos quedado tan anchos. El caso es que como algunos otros, "Vicious Rumors" supo mantener el espíritu de la old school muy vivo en esos años tan complicados, y eso es muy de agradecer. Obra muy recomendable en su conjunto de la que hoy voy a dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, en concreto uno con una cierta vocación de medio tiempo, "When love comes down", de la que dejo un enlace a  youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Axel Rudi Pell - Land Of The Giants

 

LAND  OF  THE  GIANTS

Recuperando el material clásico de nuevo del guitarrista alemán Axel Rudi Pell, en esta ocasión a través de su segundo LP "Nasty Reputation" de 1991, encontramos auténticas joyas de temas, vemos ese momento por entonces fresco de su sonido, con todos los elementos que han terminado por ser seña de identidad de sus composiciones posteriores, y de este citado disco quiero hoy dejar otro de sus temas, quizá el que más me gusta de la obra, "Land of the giants" que muestra una de las tesituras compositivas en que mejor se desenvuelve el músico, la de esos temas largos, con cambios de ritmo, que crean atmósferas como preparando esos punteos marca de la casa para dejarte ese sabor de boca como perfecto, con esa sensación de tener que volver de inmediato a escuchar la misma canción de nuevo, de no hacersete larga a pesar de que en muchas ocasiones este tipo de temas se van por encima de los diez minutos, creo sinceramente que es uno de los puntos fuertes de Axel y aquí lo realiza con maestría apoyado por entonces, (1991) en la voz enorme de Rob Rock, antes de la era Jeff Scott Soto y de la Gioeli. Canciones para una vida - Civil War - Invaders

 

INVADERS

Cuarto LP de estudio de los suecos "Civil War", haciendo honor a su nombre nacidos de la excisión de su banda madre "Sabaton" en 2012, donde tres de sus miembros salieron de la banda por incompatibilidad entre los miembros creando "Civil War". Indudablemente asentados como banda, lanzarán la citada cuarta obra "Invaders" a mediados de junio. Una vez más, a juzgar por lo que se desprende de su primer adelanto, un heavy power de raices clásicas en el que se debe notar el cambio de cantante, saliendo Patrik Johansson que da el relevo a Kelly Sundown además de la incorporación de Thobbe Englund a la guitarra. Canciones para una vida - Alestorm - Magellan's Expedition

 

MAGELLAN'S  EXPEDITION

Es evidente el nivel alcanzado por estos escoceses a lo largo de los años, el estatus al que han accedido que les ha llevado a ser cabeza absoluta del concepto que les ha hecho ser imitados por ya muchas otras bandas, explotando a la perfección la temática corsaria pero desde una perspectiva mucho más jocosa que la propuesta por Running Wild, esto siempre ha sido otra historia. En este 2022 la banda presenta su disco "Seventh Rum Of A seventh Rum", siempre con esos guiños al mundo metálico al que representan tan bien, el séptimo disco ya de su discografía que promete seguir la línea de lo anteriormente propuesto a juzgar por el primero de sus adelantos, "Magellan's Expedition", del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Reckless Love - Turborider

 

TURBORIDER

Dificil catalogar en un solo rasgo compositivo el sonido de los finlandeses "Reckless Love", siempre eso sí alrededor del sonido hard rockero pero con tintes modernos, melódicos y ramalazos hard 'n heavy, con un baño ochentero pero de producción moderna y frescura actual, es un poco un sonido nuevo pero retro. El caso es que la banda en este 2022 ha sacado a la venta el quinto LP de estudio de su carrera,de título "Turborider", una carrera que comenzó versionando a Guns 'n Roses bajo el nombre de "Reckless Life" para evidentemente con su calidad dar paso a sus propias composiciones comenzando cambiando su nombre al actual. Hablamos de 2004. cuatro EP's para darse a conocer y coger carrerilla, y 2009 vería su pirmer LP, "One more time". Como digo, mucho más curtidos y afilados, "Turborider" representa su quinta obra de estudio editada este recién pasado mes de marzo. De ella hoy quiero dejar en el blog el tema que da nombre a la misma, "Turborider" con la evidente intención homenaje a la estética y sonido ochenteros, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Capricorn - Mob In The Hood

 

MOB  IN  THE  HOOD

Sonido el de estos alemanes, "Capricorn" muy oportuno para la época, en el sentido de que nos encontramos a comienzos de los 90 y en esos años complicados musicalmente hablando para el heavy metal, los diferentes senderos sonoros se abrian por doquier, influencias de ambos lados del charco se fusionaban creando subgéneros con mayor o menos proyección y se tiraba de otros, como el thrash, ya muy asentado e incluso evolucionado hacia otros horizontes. "Capricorn" además llevaba la ventaja de una carrera anterior bajo el nombre de "Grinder" donde bordeaba el sonido "Speedico" y "heavy metálico" que inevitablemente flirteaba con el thrash. Cuando deciden abordar el cambio de denominación hacia "Capricorn" continuan muy por la misma senda pero quizá cayyendo algo más hacia el thrash, sin ser un sonido perfectamente académico dentro del subgénero, era un heavy thrash más hacia lo hecho por Iced Earth por ejemplo. El caso es que el nuevo intento de conquista del éxito solo duraría otros tres o cuatro años más del 92 al 96, con dos LP's bajo ese nombre, "Capricorn" de 1993 e "Inferno" de 1996. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas de su primer album, concretamente la canción "Mob in the hood", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Amorphis - The Wolf

 

THE  WOLF

El tema que más me ha gustado de la nueva obra de los finlandeses "Amorphis" ha sido este "The Wolf", pero una vez más quiero referirme a la calidad conjunta de toda la discografía en general y de este disco en particular, que no es una excepción, siempre se distingue la fórmula tan repetida como perfectamente ejecutada por este grupo, que se conoce a la prefección e igualmente conoce muy bien lo que sus fans demandan satisfaciendo al 100% las expectativas creadas. Joutsen y Holopainen lideran desde lo interpretativo a lo compositivo con infinito acierto e infinita capacidad creativa quedando patente en cada descarte que luego aparece como bonus track que ya quisieran muchas bandas firmar como tema central de sus obras, en definitiva, Amorphis es una mezcla perfecta de elementos y músicos que pare canciones de la talla de este "The wolf" que hoy dejo en el blog a ttravés de este enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Battlelore - Firekeeper

 

FIREKEEPER

Tiempo hacía ya que los finlandeses "Battlelore" habían anunciado su reunión y reactivación, y 2018 fue una pista más con la edición de material extra de su carrera a modo de recopilatorio con el genérico título de "Bonus Tracks". Este 2022 ha sido la fecha escogida para hacer real la promesa de su retorno, "The return of the shadow", toda una declaración de intenciones por la referencia a un retorno por una parte y por lo significativo en el universo Tolkien del título, ya que Tolkien es una de las fundamentales fuentes inspirativas de la banda. El primer single que nos dejan hasta su publicación completa en junio se titula "Firekeeper" y sigue la senda de lo que es su concepto prototípico compositivo, un punto sinfónico, un punto épico, un punto power y un dueto vocal femenino limpio y masculino gutural, una canción de la que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Todo lector habitual de est humilde blog de heavy metal sabe de mi gusto por la búsqueda de material de ese olvidado y perdido en el tiempo, de bandas que apenas encontraron reconocimiento pero que pusieron su granito de arena a este universo metálico que es nuestro sonido, e igualmente, todo metalhead sabe de la existencia del concepto al que otra vez hoy me refiero, banda, muchas veces ochentera, de perfil clásico dentro del heavy, con una carrera demasiado anónima, demasiado corta pero poseedora del espíritu de puro heavy metal que tanto satisface a algunos oidos. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog a otra de esas bandas, "Hammerhead" desde Holanda, que desarrollaron su actividad entre 1983 y comienzos del 2000, poseedores de un solo puñado de canciones procedentes de demos, singles y un EP que luego serían recopilados en un LP, tardíamente (2000) lo que centra su actividad real en los primeros años de los 80. en 1984 editaban un single con dos temas, "Heart made of steel" y "Don't cry your life away" que incluirían también ese mismo año en su EP "Heart made of steel". Hablamos de heavy metal clásico, de ese genuino de la época, y hoy de ese material dejo el tema "Heart made of steel" como testimonio de otra ilusión que quedó en el aire, pero que podría por potencial haber sido el comienzo de una larga carrera una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Axel Rudi Pell - Down On The Streets

 

DOWN  ON  THE  STREETS

Al igual que decía en la anterior entrada del blog sobre Hammerfall, a Axel Rudi Pell no es que se le pueda acusar de original en cada nueva obra con lo ofrecido en la anterior, lo que puede fomentar la argumentación de los detractores de su sonido, sin embargo, la garantía que cualquier fan de la banda tiene de antemano respecto a como va a sonar la nueva obra, tanto en estilo como en calidad general es argumento de peso que justificará esa homogeneidad general compositiva de toda la carrera de la banda. Además se trata de una de esas bandas que entregan una obra nueva cada uno o dos años a lo más, como un reloj de precisión, otro argumento a favor de los que gusten del sonido de este germano y los músicos que le rodean. Este 2022 verá la publicación de "Lost XIII", vigésimo primer LP de estudio, del que hoy dejo su segundo adelanto, "Down on the streets", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Hammerfall - No Mercy

 

NO  MERCY

Un resumen en sí mismo de los que a nivel compositivo significa este grupo sueco es esta canción, "No Mercy", perteneciente al duodécimo LP de estudio "Hammer of Dawn" de este 2022, en una carrera de más ya de 25 años donde se les ha criticado y ensalzado casi a partes iguales, que si llegaron en el momento oportuno pero su técnica no es para tanto, que si una u otra cosa, el caso es que ellos siguen adelante con esa fórmula compositiva a la que no se puede negar la efectividad sobre todo, con su capacidad para seguir haciendo girar las cabezas cuando editan un nuevo trabajo. Como digo, temas como este "No mercy" son un buen resumen de su propuesta, marac de la casa, ritmo galopante con un coro enganchón, coreable y que sin duda alguna funcionará a las mil maravillas en vivo, para agrandar la leyenda de los suecos, la negra para sus detractores igualmente. Canciones para una vida - Triumph - Too Much Thinking

 

TOO  MUCH  THINKING

Creo que una de las grandes cosas para que la década de los ochenta llegase a ser el mito que es hoy en día y que seguirá siendo en lo que al sonido heavy metal se refiere, es esa tendencia natural a que todas las bandas del mundillo tratasen de acercarse al citado sonido de una manera u otra, ya sea por arriba o por abajo, desde el hard rock o hacia el thrash, y el proto power, o proto black, al final siempre había una gran base heavy que hermanaba mucho esos variopintos sonidos y quizá por eso sean tan reconocibles las bandas de esa década más allá de la producción acorde a los tiempos que corrian. Hoy quiero acercarme al sonido más hard' n heavy encarnado en los canadienses "Triumph", una vez más una banda que a pesar del cartel, de la relativa fama no ha gozado del reconocimiento necesario en virtud a su carrera y calidad. 10 LP's de estudio entre 1976 y 1992 hablan de una carrera centrada en ese arco compositivo entre el heavy metal y el AOR pasando por el hard rock, en su mayor parte. Quizá la época más heavy se corresponda a los inicios de la década de los 80 donde para muchos dieron lo mejor de sí. Su sexto album de estudio de llama "Never Surrender", quizá no sea el más reconocido de su carrera, editado en 1983, pero es igualmente un ejemplo de buen hacer como en el tema que dejo hoy en el blog perteneciente a esta obra, "Too much thinking", para abrir el disco, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
