HANDSHAKE  WITH  HELL

Otra de esas bandas que parecen atravesar un momento dulce es Arch Enemy, formados en 1995, estos suecos han ido en crecimiento a lo largo de sus discos, con cambios en puestos como el de vocalista, tan significativo, más aún cuando el cambio lo haces de un cantante masculino a otra femenina, y luego, tras toda una década a su vez la sustituyes por otra nueva, pero en general cada cambio ha ido a mejor, y además está la peculiaridad del tono vocal que emplean dichas cantantes, la última de ellas, la guapa Alissa White Gluz que da ese plus a la banda desde 2014. Llevaba ya Arch Enemy sin editar un disco desde 2017 con su undécimo album de estudio "Will to power" del que ya he hablado en el blog, y este duo décimo "Deceivers", cuya salida oficial se espera para junio ha mostrado ya el pasado 2021 dos de los temas que lo compondrá, hoy dejo en el blog el tercero de los adelantos, "Handshake with hell", otra buena muestra del buen saber hacer de una banda con un objetivo muy claro, que se conoce muy bien y sabe donde quiere llegar, un tema este "handshake with hell" del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Crimson Glory - Astronomica

 

ASTRONOMICA

Los estadounidenses Crimson Glory son una de esas bandas que han llevado de la mano desde casi el comienzo de su carrera un aura casi de banda de culto, de esas que se reconocen más a posteriori, casi demasiado tarde, y desde luego cuyo éxito no se tradujo en ventas. Igualmente siempre se les ha reconocido su mérito a nivel individual, como músicos talentosos y de enrome capacidad y al fin, han sido banda influyente para otras, con todos los ogredientes de las grandes bandas, salida de miembros a priori indispensables, (Midnight a la voz), una etapa más mítica como fue la inicial en los 80 con sus dos primeras obras, una etapa pre separación más criticada antes de la salida de Midnight, y una segunda actividad con cambio de vocalista en la que hoy estamos, "Astronomica" de 1999, el cuarto LP con Wade Black. Los tópicos en estos casos, que si Wade no estaba al nivel de Midnight, que si Midnight comenzaba su carrera en solitario, solo que todo ello siempre tengo la sensación de que estaba cocinado a medio gas, es decir más underground, reconociendo sin duda y por supuesto la calidad de los yankees. En definitiva, más allá de los cambios, del significado de esta obra dentro de la carrera de la banda estamos ante un disco bastante decente, de buen nivel general, siempre con ese heavy power progresivo como objetivo sobradamente cumplido y de esta obra quiero hoy dejar en el blog la canción que da nombre a la obra, "Astronomica", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Rune Lord - Valkyries Eternal Winter

 

VALKYRIES  ETERNAL  WINTER

Si hablamos de músicos polifacéticos, de esos con un hambre compositivo casi obsesivo, de los que parecen contar con 70 horas cada día para ser capaces de entender el elevado número de proyectos que lidran o en los que contribuyen, entonces uno de los nombres que deben ser tenidos en cuenta es el del sueco Cederick Forsberg, al que ya me he referido en muchas otras ocasiones, y del que hoy dejo en el blog otro de esos mencionados proyectos como es "Rune Lord". Hablamos de un heavy power con claros guiños clásicos, hablamos de una propuesta no demasiado alejada a la que hace con "Blazon Stone" aunque para nada tan mimética con el sonido de Running Wild. Es fácil pensar que este sueco quizá haría mejor en unificar o mejor dicho administrarse para centrar sus esfuerzos compositivos en menos proyectos y que sean más consistentes, pero parec o al menos tiene toda la pinta de que no es su forma de ser. El caso es que "Rune Lord" solo cuenta con dos LP's de estudio, curiosamente los dos del mismo año, 2018, y parece que figura, a pesar de ese silencio compositivo desde 2018 su estatus como activo. Una vez más él se encarga de todo menos de la voz, para quien tiene a su compañero vocalista tambien en Blazon Stone, Georgy Peichev. Canciones para una vida - Unisonic - Night Of The Long Knives

 

NIGHT  OF  THE  LONG  KNIVES

Ahora que finalmente la esperadisima reunión Helloweenera clásica se ha hecho real el pasado 2021, al echar la vista atrás nos damos cuenta de lo progresiva y en cierta manera natural manera en que esto ha terminado por suceder, con pequeñas colaboraciones entre hansen y Kiske al inicio, participaciones en los proyectos de ambos por parte del otro fuera de Helloween, temas compuestos especificamente para ser cantados por Kiske por parte de Hansen, y el paso anterior y más firme fue la creación del proyecto "Unisonic" que durante unos años nos parecía lo más cercano que se podría encontrar a aquella mágica época de ambos en la banda. Al final el proyecto tendría dos episodios, el segundo de ellos en 2014, "Light of dawn" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas. Esta segunda entrega se muestra más variada, con temas más heterogeneos y resultaría ser el último del grupo antes de su separación en 2017. Buen ejemplo de esa tentación de considerarse herederos de aquellos Helloween es el tema "Night of the long knives", de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Iron Savior - Dragon King

 

DRAGON  KING

La propuesta de Iron Savior siempre resulta homogenea, en este caso, por la entidad de quien está detrás de la banda, siempre encontraremos calidad, buen hacer pero en la otra parte de balanza está el eterno tema de sonar a si mismos, esa dualidad tantas veces mencionada de la originalidad contra la pérdida de la identidad. Si eres de los que te gusta la propuesta de estos germanos estarás siempre seguro de como va a sonar su nuevo disco, si eres de los que te aburre la repetición de fórmulas decididamente esta no será tu banda. De cualquier manera Piet Sielk es siempre sinónimo de calidad y con "Rise of the hero" vemos a la banda en su Octavo LP de estudio, del año 2014, un disco sólido dentro de su propuesta, contundente en su heavy metal teutón, y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, concretamente "Dragon king" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Iron Savior, todo un clásico que recomiendo, si tienes ocasión, ver en vivo.

Canciones para una vida - Tungsten - Come This Way

 COME  THIS  WAY

Los suecos Tungsten están de vuelta en este 2022 ya con su tercer LP de estudio, "Bliss" que verá la luz de forma oficial el 17 de junio. Como ya muchos sabrán a pesar de no encontrarse demasiado respaldada la banda a nivel masivo, se trata de un grupo formado or Anders Johansson, batería de contrastada trayectoria con nombres imponentes de los que ha sido parte, (Hammerfall, Sttratovarius, Fullforce, Yngwie Malmsteen, e incluso el último EP de Manowar, por citar a los más enormes), junto con sus hijos. Ya se ve lo "familiar" del tipo cuando había formado anteriormente a mediados de los 90 una banda con su hermano. Sea como fuere, lo que aquí comenzó con un LP en 2019, va camino del tercero, y aunque, como decía al inicio, no parece de momento haber recibido todas las miradas que su calidad debería, (incluso hoy en día siguen sin aparecer en "the metal archives"), siguen ese camino hacia adelante, centrando su sonido en una original mezcla de europower, industrial y toques electrónicos. El primero de los adelantos de su tercera obra se titula "Come this way" donde ya muestran muy a las claras el sonido mostrado en sus dos primeros discos, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Amorphis - On The Dark Waters

 

ON  THE  DARK  WATERS

El segundo de los adelantos del ya décimo quinto LP de estudio de los finlandeses Amorphis tiene por título "On the dark waters", y muestra el camino compositivo de la obra "Halo" cuya salida oficial será el ya inminente 11 de febrero de este 2022. Una vez más nos sirve de confirmación de lo que se puede esperar de la banda, para mi una de esas bandas que son un seguro absoluto de vida, fieles al sendero que han recorrido en las últimas obras y que les hadado ese crecimiento y respeto general apoyado siempre en su calidad. Metal Wallpaper BBM - Gamma Ray - Land Of The Free

GAMMA  RAY  -  LAND  OF  THE  FREE  -  1995

 Tras la traumática para muchos, salida de Kai Hansen de Helloween en el mejor momento de la banda, muchos especulaban y al mismo tiempo esperaban el siguiente paso compositivo del genial guitarrista, y ese paso tuvo un nombre, Gamma Ray, una banda que desde el inicio mismo de su carrera dejo bien claras sus intenciones, el camino a seguir y el peso específico de Hansen dentro de Helloween. Está claro que con el camino que Helloween tomó tras la salida de Hansen, en lo compositivo, Gamma Ray supuso el hogar natural para muchos de los metalheads hechizados por los "Keeper", que habían quedado huérfanos de sonido con "Pink Bubbles go ape". En 1995, Gamma Ray editaba su cuarto LP, "Land of the free", con la banda ya totalmente asentada, Hansen con un nombre ya enorme en el mundillo, y con este LP dando un paso más, en el sentido global de la obra, así como en su crecimiento interno en la banda adoptando además la función de cantante, algo que había hecho ya en Helloween. Además para este gran disco contó con la colaboración de varios músicos, algo que siempre ha sabido explotar muy bien el bueno de Hansen, Así, Sascha Paeth de Heavens Gate, en los teclados, Hansi Kursch a la voz y Michael Kiske en otro tema adornaron más aún la obra. En definitiva, con "Land of the free" estamos ante una obra de esas que se antoja fundamental, en general para el heavy metal y en particular para el power.

Canciones para una vida - Judas Priest - Night Crawler

 

NIGHT  CRAWLER

El décimo tercer LP de los británicos Judas Priest, "Painkiller" de 1990 es una de esas obras míticas, uno de esos momentos que rayan a una extraordinaria altura para permanecer por méritos propios para siempre como uno de esos discos fundamentales dentro del heavy metal. Para aquel momento, la banda había vivido sus momentos posiblemente más gloriosos de su historia, al menos los más míticos, y encaraban la década de cambios de los 90 con una obra que alcanzó seguramente las cotas más altas y salvajes dentro de lo que podría considerarse como un heavy metal más potente para la banda hablando como discos en su conjunto. Es curioso que se diese ese particular justo como un canto de cisne en lo referente a lo que le sucedería al sonido heavy clásico en adelante, esa década de los 90 que diversificó y evolucionó el nicho natural del heavy clásico hacia otras cosas, haciendolo tambalearse y siendo sustentado por tan solo un puñado de bandas. El caso es que "Painkiller" es una obra completa, un disco que destacar en su conjunto y del que casi cualquiera de sus temas es susceptible de ser destacado, como por ejemplo el monumental "Night Crawler" que hoy dejo en el blog y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Megaton Sword - Realms To Conquer

 

REALMS  TO  CONQUER

De entre las muchas maneras que las bandas tienen de mirar a un concepto heavy clásico, la del llamado "epic heavy metal" es una opción más, haciendolo como digo a la manera clásica, evitando sobre todo el apartado electrónico de los teclados y efectos. Uno de los grandes grupos clásicos que abrieron esta vía fueron "Manilla Road"  por ejemplo, y claramente los suizos "Megaton Sword" han mirado en esa dirección para desarrollar su aún incipiente carrera que comenzó en 2018 y que por el momento consta tan solo de un EP y un LP, (2019 y 2020 respectivamente). Como digo esa capacidad para crear una atmosfera épica a base de guitarras principalmente y el bajo, igualmente con algo de los primeros Manowar, y la tesitura vocal tan personal encontramos rápida la conexión con los pioneros en dicho concepto heavy épico. Su primer materialcomo digo es un EP, "Niralet" de 2019 y compuesto por cinco canciones de las que hoy quiero dejar en el blog la última de ellas, "Realms to conquer", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Heavy Load - Dark Nights

 

DARK  NIGHTS

Hablar de los pioneros del heavy metal es siempre algo importante como hecho en si mismo, pero a ello se le puede dar una mayor magnitud si le añadimos el detalle de serlo en una de las mayores escenas metálicas históricamente hablando, tanto en lo que a calidad como a cantidad se refiere, como es el caso de la escena sueca. Heavy Load es una de esas bandas que pueden presumir de abrir camino en Suecia en lo que al heavy metal se refiere. Formados en 1976 estuvieron activos realmente hasta 1983 aunque desde 2017 se supome que se han reactivado sin frutos compositivos nuevos de momento. En ese primer periodo de actividad editan 3 LP's de estudio más un EP. Estamos hablando por época de heavy metal sin adornos, muy de los inicios, muy de la vieja escuela, por lo tanto y sobre todo honesto. Hoy quiero dejar otro de los temas de su EP "Metal conquest" de 1981, en concreto "Dark Nights", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Hammerfall - Venerate Me

 

VENERATE  ME

Segundo de los adelantos del que será el duodécimo LP de estudio de los suecos Hammerfall, una banda que como un reloj edita discos de estudio cada 3 años de media  Igualmente su sonido es predecible, una de esas ideas que siempre menciono puesto que son susceptibles por su renombre a ensalzamientos y criticas a partes iguales y me temo que este LP, "Hammer of Dawn" cuya salida oficial será el próximo mes de febrero, inminente ya, no será una excepción a juzgar por lo escuchado en sus adelantos. A pesar de los que lo critiquen abiertamente estos tios siguen a lo suyo y desde luego a quien le guste el sonido clásico de estos suecos les habría de gustar también este nuevo LP. Hoy dejo en el blog el citado segundo single "Venerate me" del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Shining Black - Postcards From The End Of The World

 

POSTCARDS  FROM  THE  END  OF  THE  WORLD

Una vez más lo que comienza como un proyecto personal de uno o varios músicos termina siendo una banda con todo merecimiento gracias al buen papel de un debut acertado. En esta ocasión hablamos del proyecto de los músicos Olaf Thorsen y Mark Boals, grandes nombres de los que en general solo pueden esperarse grandes cosas, y por supuesto uniendo fuerzas no podía ser de otra manera. El primer album de Shining Black, de título homónimo y del año 2020 fue una de esas gratas sorpresas, redondo, interesante de inicio a fin, que ahora ve su continuidad en este "Postcards from the end of the world" que en estos días muestra sus primeras pinceladas con el tema que da nombre a la obra, y del cual hoy dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial. Una obra por cierto cuya salida a la venta de forma oficial se espera para mediados de marzo.

Canciones para una vida - Evil Invaders - In Deepest Black

 

IN  DEEPEST  BLACK

El giro que muchas bandas nuevas y no tanto han hecho hacia el sonido clásico y original es evidente, así, el heavy metal sin adornos, crudo, que en ocasiones y por motivos de velocidad se acerca a traves del speed hacia el thrash hace repetir como digo el patrón que siguió en la década de los ochenta y terminaría por diversificar subgéneros. Evidentemente ya está todo invntado a estas alturas pero no deja de ser paradójicamente refrescante encontrar a bandas, sobre todo jovenes que han tirado por ese camino que parece ser tan natural, es como si se reinventara todo sin pretenderlo, como si la citada naturalidad fuera hace unas décadas la via obvia y hoy vuelva a suceder. Hoy me centro de nuevo en la escena belga, una escena que en los ochenta tuvo una escena rica en heavy de la vieja escuela, con nombres como Scavenger, Target, Bad Lizard, Warhead, Killer, Buzzard, Tormentor, Acid, Palass, Ostrogoth, Crossfire, y muchos otros. En esa senda clásica pero de esta nueva ola del siglo XXI se puede incluir a "Evil Invaders", quienes comenzaron su carrera en 2007 habiendo editado a fecha de esta reseña un total de tres LP's más dos EP's. El último de sus larga duración se llama "Shattering Reflection" y verá la luz el primero de abril de este 2022, y en estos días nos muestran sus primeras pinceladas a través del tema "In deepest black" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Heavens Gate - The Never Ending Fire

 

THE  NEVER  ENDING  FIRE

Volvemos a la carga con uno de esos grupos que fueron mucho más allá en lo compositivo, y en cierto modo en lo innovador, de lo que su reconoimiento o ventas podrían decir de ellos, los alemanes "Heavens Gate", un grupo que se sacó de la manga una carrera no demasiado extensa, quizá por la falta del mencionado apoyo masivo de los metalheads, pero eso sí, llena de momentos de altísimo nivel, quizá el más completo y mejor en su conjunto este "Livin' in hysteria" de 1991 del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de sus temas. Como digo estamos ante una obra absolutamente completa, irreprochable en todos sus puestos y marcandose un heavy power con muchos de los elementos que utilizarían más adelante en esa década muchas bandas que alcanzaron mayores cotas de éxito, sin envidiarles nada y mucho antes que ellos, pero ya sabemos que la historia del heavy metal está llena de injustos olvidos y anónimos héroes que nunca salieron a tiempo a la luz, y que en el mejor de los casos solo el timepo va poniendo en el alto puesto, al menos platónicamente, que merecieron. Buen ejemplo de ello sea esta obra, hoy a través de su canción "The never ending fire", cocinado a fiuego lento, a medio tiempo, pero lleno del poder de Heavens Gate, calidad, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
