Tercera ocasión en la que acudo a esta obra y esta banda aún completamente desconocida, los polacos "Lux Perpetua". Si algo puede decirse de esta obra y de su estilo sería que se trata de un compendio de lo que debe ser un disco de power europeo de manual, con todos y cada uno de los clichés esperados en el subgénero que hará las delicias de los amantes del mismo. Poco más que añadir que lo hecho en las anteriores citadas entradas, tan solo dejar esta otra canción perteneciente a la misma, "The curse of the iron king" de 2017, concretamente "An old bard" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Holter - Drums Of Doom

DRUMS  OF  DOOM

 Ya he hablado de este proyecto banda, "Holter" con anterioridad en el blog, hoy quiero retomarlo por la por la buena impresión que la obra en su conjunto ma ha dejado. Con lo de proyecto banda me refiero a su inicio y posterior evolución ya que nace como proyecto colaborativo entre Trond Holter y Jorn Lande, un par de músicos noruegos que cubrían los apartados de voz y guitarra y que deciden unir sus fuerzas para crear en 2015 "Dracula: swing of death". Con la posterior retirada del proyecto por parte de Jorn, Holter continuaría su idea creando una banda a tiempo completo de la que este "Vlad the impaler" es su segundo trabajo, editado de forma oficial el pasado 2018. Otro de los temas a destacar, aunque como digo la obra resulta ser un disco bastante completo, es esta canción, "Drums of doom", de la que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a youtube. Power metal de corte europeo con tintes sinfónicos en ocasiones.

FALL  INTO  THE  LIGHT

Confirmando mi impresión inicial, y tras la escucha por completo de la decimo cuarta obra de estudio de los americanos "Dream Theater", "Distance Over Time", de este 2019. Hacía tiempo que una obra de este grupo no despertaba tanta ilusión en mí, creo que ultimamente habían perdido un poquito la esencia de los inicios que aquí veo recuperar. Es igualmente evidente que siempre hay calidad en cada una de las producciones de una banda icónica como esta, y es que los grupos de este calibre son grandes solo por ese motivo, la calidad. Tras esa catarsis que el propio grupo confiesa haber tenido en alguna entrevista, que les ha hecho mirar a la forma en que hacían las cosas más al inicio de su carrera la verdad es que me ha faltado tiempo para acercarme a esta obra de la que hoy dejo en el blog el que ha sido su segundo single de adelanto, "Fall into the light", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Nada mejor para ilustrar una idea como la expresada en mi anterior entrada referente al asunto Kabanen - Beast In Black - Battle Beast, que incluir la otra parte de la ecuación, es decir Beast In Black y su sonido. Evidentemente es más sencillo juzgar la obra ya editada y fiel a lo esperado que una con solo un par de adelantos, pero igualmente creo que queda patente que la figura de Kabanen se antoja fundamental en este concepto musical, y eso a día de hoy es sinónimo de "Beast In Black". Canciones para una vida - Battle Beast - Eden

EDEN

En esta especie de "guerra" abierta declarada entre "Battle Beast" y "Beast In Black", llega un nuevo capítulo.Se trata de esa comparación entre el segundo LP de Beast in Black que ha visto la luz recientemente, y el quinto LP de Battle Beast, (segundo sin Anton Kavanen), que lo hará este próximo 22 de marzo. Sin duda creo que va a resultar difícil desligar a ambas bandas de esa obsesión por prevalecer sobre la otra, y creo que al final puede resultar contraproducente para ambas, aunque ellas mismas lo tengan muy difícil para intentar que se las vea como bandas independientes que no piensen la una en la otra. Sea como sea, las comparaciones están ahí, y por el momento parece inclinarse la balanza del lado de Kavanen, o lo que es lo mismo Beast In Black. Cuerpo a cuerpo, en las mismas condiciones compositivas y en el mismo campo de batalla sonoro es evidente quien tiene las de ganar, y quizá por ello, Battle Beast ha comenzado a variar su estilo hacia otra cosa, en esta ocasión al menos, y juzgando los dos temas de adelanto que llevan, con un aire mucho más "Nightwish" si se quiere. El primer single que da título a la obra, directamente me ha parecido carente de todo gancho, y de casi identidad metálica, muy mala idea, en mi opinión. Este segundo adelanto, "Eden", ha sido más de mi agrado, aunque como digo en una onda muy diferente a lo que venían haciendo, quizá buscando esa nueva identidad sonora que les aleje un poco de lo que Kavanen sigue haciendo, (y muy bien) con Beast In Black. Un sonido más "Nightwish", encarnado en este "Eden", del que dejo un enlace a youtube. Esperemos que no se les vaya la mano, veremos.

Canciones para una vida - Brymir - Wings Of Fire

WINGS  OF  FIRE

 El 8 de marzo verá la luz la tercera obra de estudio de los finlandeses "Brymir", "Wings of fire". Es sin duda una gran noticia la vuelta a una senda más apropiada a lo esperado de la banda, según lo que voy escuchando de la nueva obra. Este grupo sacó un impresionante debut allá por 2011, todo lector asiduo de este blog ya sabe de mi gusto por ese disco y esta banda, pero tras dicha obra un largo silencio derivó en una segunda obra bastante por debajo de las espectativas despertadas en la obra inicial. Quizá ese aire "Ensiferum" que esgrimían por entonces, también al iniciar su carrera musical como una banda tributo a sus compatriotas, les pesase demasiado y en su intento por huir a toda costa de ese sonido perdieran su identidad en exceso. En los adelanto que van saliendo de esta tercera obra, parece haber un cierto retorno a los inicios, aunque igualmente se va viendo un concepto compositivo propio más acertado y maduro que el intentado en la segunda obra, un camino que espero continúe a lo largo y ancho de este "Wings Of fire", y de las futuras obras que decidan regalarnos. Hoy quiero dejar el tema que da nombre a la obra, "Wings Of Fire", confirmación de ese camino que emprende la banda hacia un sonido ya reconocible como suyo, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Evil Lyn - Survive The Night

SURVIVE  THE  NIGHT


Ya he hablado en el blog en más de una ocasión de esa nueva corriente musical que está recuperando el espíritu clásico del heavy metal de la vieja escuela, sin adornos, basado en lo que sucedió en Inglaterra con la NWOBHM, solo que ahora de carácter más global. Mucha gente lo está denominando NWOTHM, en clara alusión a la citada NWOBHM, solo que sustituyendo la B de British por la T de Tradicional. Sea como fuere son bandas con guitarra, bajo batería voz y un espíritu completamente ochentero, volviendo a las raíces. Una de ellas son estos chicos finlandeses de "Evil Lyn", un grupo formado en 2007 que ha desarrollado solo recientemente su producción musical en forma de un único LP hasta la fecha de esta reseña, "Disciples of steel" de 2018. A ese material hay que añadir un EP en 2012. De los fundadores de la banda solo un miembro continúa en el grupo, y todos provienen de bandas en general desconocidas. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su LP, en concreto "Survive the night" donde se muestra ese gusto por el sonido clásico, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Warkings - Sparta

SPARTA

"Warkings" o lo que es lo mismo, un proyecto internacional posiblemente inter bandas en el marco del power metal. Nos encontramos ante un proyecto en el que sus integrantes han decidido esconder su identidad y trabajar bajo seudónimos tales como "Viking" al bajo, "Spartan" a la batería, "Crusader" a la guitarra o "Tribune" a la voz, este último "traicionado" por el inconfundible tono de su voz y el buen hacer que siempre lo acompaña en cada proyecto, banda y colaboración que encarna, Georg Neuhauser de "Serenity".De momento desconozco la identidad del resto de integrantes, por ello esa presunción por mi parte de que se trate de un proyecto que implique a músicos de varias bandas, de esos proyectos que se generan cuando las bandas giran juntas y se crean vínculos musicales que fructifican en ese tipo de proyectos posteriormente. Puede ser por dos motivos, como siempre, la necesidad musical de dar rienda suelta a un estilo diferente al de las bandas madre de los integrantes o el económico, para lo cual se suele dar más bombo y platillo a los nombre de los componentes sobre todo si son conocidos al pertenecer a bandas de primera línea. Sea como sea, Warkings enmarca su sonido en un power de corte europeo, en ocasiones más melódico y en otras más agresivo, creando un interés grande al inicio que veremos donde les termina por llevar. Canciones para una vida - Brymir - Thus I Became Kronos

THUS  I  BECAME  KRONOS

Ahora que parece que la banda finlandesa "Brymir" realmente ha cogido velocidad de crucero con el anuncio de la salida de su tercer LP, "Wings Of Fire" para este próximo 8 de marzo de 2019, parece igualmente buen momento para repasar su aún último LP publicado "Slayer of gods" de 2016. La fórmula escogida por la banda para sacar material es un tanto curiosa con la edición de singles sin previo aviso entre obra y obra, un tanto alejados de la publicación de las mismas, como una especie de aperitivo para hacer ver que aún están con vida. Supongo que han aprendido del largo silencio que hubo entre la primera y la segunda obra, (2011 - 2016), para además editar un segundo LP con un sensible bajón con respecto al debut. De todas maneras estamos ante una gran banda y eso lo demuestran incluso durante la que no es su mejor obra hasta la fecha, ya que hay buenos temas en ella, como este "Thus I became Kronos" que hoy dejo en el blog.

Canciones para una vida - Iced Earth - Black Flag

BLACK  FLAG

Otro ejemplo más de como hacer las cosas bien en general, (en lo que se refiere a la carrera musical en su conjunto), y en particular, ( en lo que se refiere a su última obra en concreto), es la banda americana "Iced Earth", y su disco "Incorruptible" de 2017. Los estadounidenses han dado en el clavo una vez más con este su décimo tercer LP en una carrera musical que se extiende ya por tres décadas, más aún si tenemos en cuenta sus inicios bajo otros nombres, "The Rose" y "Purgatory", en que nos tendíamos que remontar a 1984. Es evidente la calidad contrastada de estos músicos, y ya he hablado de esta obra con anterioridad en el blog, y hoy quiero dejar otra de las canciones de esta, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, última obra de la banda, "Incorruptible", concretamente la canción "Black Flag", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Manegarm - Sveablotet

SVEABLOTET

Primeros retazos de la que será el noveno LP de la banda sueca "Manegarm" con su viking black folk metal en una historia personal que se extiende ya desde 1995, por lo tanto ya vamos camino de los 25 años de existencia de este grupo que personalmente me encanta..La obra "Fornaldarsagor" verá la luz de manera oficial este próximo 26 de abril de 2019 y, por lo que parece desprenderse de su primer single "Sveablotet", parecen persistir en su concepto musical para alegría de sus seguidores. Veremos la magnitud de la obra ante la que nos encontramos a medida que lo vayamos escuchando, pero como decía más arriba, creo que estamos ante uno de esos grupos que no suelen defraudar a sus fans. Segundo adelanto del octavo LP de la banda sueca "Bloodbound", canción que da nombre a la obra, "Rise of the dragon empire", cuya salida se espera para el próximo 20 de marzo de esta 2019. Esta canción no es sino una confirmación de las aspiraciones de la banda, algo que vienen refrendando obra tras obra, por alzarse como unos de los mayores ejemplos de power metal de manual, con todo lo bueno y malo que pueda tener dicha afirmación, pues es evidente que cliché tras cliché, todo lo esperado se cumple sin duda, para disfrute de todo amante del género y que al tiempo servirá como argumento para todos los detractores de este tipo de sonido. THE  TEMPLE  OF  FEAR

Ya he traído a esta banda ucraniana al blog en otra ocasión, para además hablar de esta misma obra, "Frozen sky" de 2005. Una banda de esas unidas a un nombre propio, en este caso al guitarrista W. Angel, y que con una larga historia ya detrás que va más allá de las dos décadas, ha ido atravesando varias etapas, varias denominaciones y a través de varios estilos terminando por derivar en estos "Conquest" con un estilo power de corte europeo. Esta obra de 2005 es la segunda bajo esta denominación y de ella hoy quiero dejar otro de sus temas, concretamente "The temple of fear" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Amorphis - The Golden Elk

THE  GOLDEN  ELK

 Una vez más, si de lo que se trata es de opositar al mejor disco de 2018, "Amorphis" sin duda debe ser tenido en cuenta. Pero ya a estas alturas debemos reconocer que siempre que la banda finlandesa decide regalarnos una de sus obras es más que probable que prácticamente entera pueda ser considerada como opositora a mejor disco del año en cuestión. Ya muchas veces lo he dicho de este grupo y no me repetiré más, tan solo dejar en el blog otra de las canciones recogidas en su décimo cuarto LP, "Queen Of Time" de 2018, en esta ocasión "The golden Elk" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Guardians Of Time - Drawn In Blood

DRAWN  IN  BLOOD

 Siempre que termina un año, uno echa la vista atrás tratando de encontrar cuales han sido los discos que más le han gustado de ese periodo de tiempo, y muchas veces uno se da cuenta solo así de lo bueno que ha resultado ser ese año en general o no. Mirando atrás, al pasado 2018, hay obras que han destacado por varios motivos, y discos realmente completos que ya he reseñado en el blog. Una de esas obras que ha recalado ya en un par de ocasiones en estas páginas metálicas ha sido el quinto LP de los noruegos "Guardians Of time", veterano ya grupo que a pesar de su buen hacer no tienen el reconocimiento general que sin duda merecen, más aún si nos paramos a escuchar el último mencionado disco de la banda, "Tearing up the world", disco que merece por méritos propios aparecer en cualquier listado de "mejores discos de 2018", y lo merece por la calidad puntual de algunas de sus canciones, por la versatilidad demostrada y sobre todo por esa sensación de obra completa que te deja la escucha del disco.
