Canciones para una vida - Cromonic - Tale Of Pain

TALE  OF  PAIN

Para mi gusto, sin duda podemos ver en este álbum de los suecos "Cromonic" un disco de reivindicación, de como unos músicos con una larga trayectoria, enrolados en una banda que nunca termino de gozar del favor del gran público, como fue "Freternia" y a pesar de tener merecidas buenas críticas como banda con potencial, jamás llegó, como digo, a despuntar siendo una absoluta desconocida para la gran mayoría. Reconvertidos en "Cromonic", con una nueva imagen, una dosis más moderna pero un buen hacer mirando sus propias raíces, y tirando de orgullo, de tesón auto produciéndose de nuevo su música, dan el do de pecho en este "Time" de 2017, que por otra parte, sin el apoyo adecuado mucho me temo que pasará desapercibido de nuevo para muchos. Una vez más la calidad y las ventas no van de la manos, pero una vez más igualmente merece la pena sumergirse en una obra de esta categoría para respirar un soplo de aire fresco en la escena power europea. Canciones para una vida - Brainstorm - Ravenous Minds

RAVENOUS  MINDS

"Ravenous Minds" es una de las canciones de este ya duodécimo disco de estudio de los alemanes "Brainstorm" en las que más se nota la manos de "Seeb Levermann" en la producción de la nueva obra de estos chicos. Sin duda, y como ya he dicho en muchas ocasiones en el blog, el cantante, guitarra y compositor de Orden Ogan es una de las figuras importantes dentro de la escena internacional en lo que a power metal se refiere, y lo muestra tanto con su banda madre como en temas de producción a otras bandas como es el caso de este último trabajo publicado por Brainstorm. Desde luego esta banda va haciendo de su sonido algo cada vez más limpio, más dentro de los cánones más puristas que el estilo power de corte europeo exige, y esta obra "Midnight Ghost" es buena prueba de ello en mi opinión. Consistente en conjunto y con buenos destellos concretos, como puede ser el caso de este "Ravenous Minds" que hoy traigo al bllog y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

BLOODWINTER

 Wolfchant es otra de esas bandas que van haciendo con cada paso nuevo que dan en su carrera en forma de disco, que su nombre crezca, asentándose cada vez más entre los grandes del sonido que practican, death melódico viking metal. Ya son 15 los años de carrera de la banda y este disco que de nuevo traigo hoy al blog, su sexto LP "Bloodwinter" editado el pasado 2017 es una buena confirmación de lo que digo. Cada vez más engrasados y reconocidos dejo hoy en el blog la canción que da título al álbum, 2Bloodwinter", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Bloodshed Walhalla - Nine Words

NINE  WORDS

Como ya he dicho en el blog anteriormente respecto a esta banda nos encontramos ante uno de esos grupos que realmente son obra de un solo músico, desde la perspectiva de la composición tanto como desde la de la interpretación. De origen italiano, la figura tras Bloodshed Walhalla es "Drakhen" "Mario Di Pede" y el espejo sonoro en que se mira es sin duda el metal atmosférico, épico y viquingo que nació con los "Bathory", "Falkenbach" y compañía. Este hecho queda absolutamente patente cuando miramos la discografía de la banda y, sin ir más lejos, nos damos cuenta de que el pasado 2017, junto con la edición de este "Thor" del que hoy quiero dejar otro tema en el blog, editaron, (o editó) también un disco homenaje a "Bathory", y este 2018 también ha sido año de sacar material en forma del quinto LP, "Ragnarok" del que dejaré más adelante algo en el blog. Hoy quiero dejar como digo otra canción del tercer LP de "Bloodshed Walhalla" "Thor" de 2017, concretamente "Nine Words", tema 100% Falkenbach, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Angelus Apatrida - Farewell

FAREWELL

"Angelus Apatrida" es una banda de largo recorrido ya, (desde 2000 están en activo), cuyo sonido es absolutamente de corte americano, sorprendiendo el origen europeo, cocretamente español. Con un concepto Thrash, power thrash si se quiere, el grupo no ha parado de crecer desde sus inicios, y a pesar de no contar con una discografía excesivamente extensa si que cuentan ya con seis LP's  a sus espaldas incluyendo este "Cabaret de la guillotine" editado el pasado mayo del presente 2018. Gran parte de la banda sigue formando parte de la misma desde los inicios mismos de la banda hasta la actualidad siendo el puesto de batería el que más variación ha sufrido, y es esa estabilidad la que en muchas ocasiones puede marcar la diferencia en calidad y longevidad para una banda consistente. AFTERLIFE

Toda banda tiene un inicio que demuestra en la mayor parte de las ocasiones por donde pueden ir los tiros musicales en su carrera futura. Luego muchos son los factores que deciden si las buenas cosas prometidas tan temprano son llevadas a buen término más adelante o no. En esta ocasión refiriéndome a Dream Theater es indudable que los muchos y buenos apuntes de este primer LP de la banda "When Dream And Day Unite", de 1989 mostraban a un grupo de primerísima línea que ha llegado a ser uno de los máximos exponentes en lo suyo, el metal progresivo. Ya desde tan temprano mostraban los Portnoy, Myung y Petrucci su calidad, y en esta primera obra de los estadounidenses el cantante era Charlie Dominici, antes de que otra de las señas de identidad de la banda, el cantante James LaBrie pasase a ser la cabeza visible de Dream Theater desde 1991 en adelante. Canciones para una vida - Virgin Steele - I Will Come For You

I  WILL  COME  FOR  YOU


 El sexto disco de los estadounidenses "Virgin Steele" forma parte de una especie de obra doble conceptual, que el grupo editó en dos años consecutivos, "The marriage of heaven and hell" parte 1 y 2 , de los años 1994 y 1995. Para muchos la banda trató en este par de obras de reparar el error que cometieron en su anterior obra "Life among the ruins" de 1993, más centrada en un sonido hard americano que en el heavy power que venían utilizando desde los inicios a lo largo de su carrera musical. Desde luego ya he hablado de esta banda en varias ocasiones en el blog, y alguna más vendrá seguro, pues la trayectoria de la banda es suficiente aval como para recurrir a su discografía más veces, un grupo menos reconocido una vez más de lo que se han ganado con los ya muchos años en la escena internacional. Con esta sexta obra se inicia un punto en la carrera de la banda que ya no han abandonado hasta la actualidad, con una cuidada atención a como sonar, como si hubiesen encontrado una fórmula que, si bien, como decía más arriba, no les ha hecho llegar nunca a ser unos superventas, si que parece haberles hecho sentir que están en la senda adecuada para ellos mismos, granjeándose el respeto entre gran parte del público metálico en general. De nuevo la sexta obra de estudio de los austriacos "Serenity" en el blog, un disco del que ya he hablado anteriormente y que sin duda es un paso más adelante en la carrera de la banda. Metal sinfónico, melódico, con un fondo épico, consistente y particularmente en este nuevo disco uniforme en el alto nivel general de la obra. A estos chicos se les nota que se conocen de memoria, que tienen un objetivo musical claro y que cumplen con creces con su objetivo. Canciones para una vida - Judas Priest - Cathedral Spires

CATHEDRAL  SPIRES

 "Jugulator" es un disco particular dentro de la discografía de Judas Priest, y es particular por lo que significa ser el primero de los dos únicos discos de la banda sin el icónico vocalista Rob Halford a los mandos. Otro hecho a tener en cuenta es que este disco, que supone el décimo curto en la historia de la banda era el sucesor del simplemente histórico "Painkiller", prácticamente insuperable. Siempre han existido ciertos paralelísmos entre Iron Maiden Y Judas Priest, por la grandeza de las bandas, su aplastante influjo sobre toda la escena metálica, y en esto de la ida del vocalista icónico de la banda durante una temporada también se puede encontrar un punto de unión. Desde luego siempre he pensado que la sustitución del cantante en Judas fue mucho más acertada que en Maiden, habiendo por ejemplo en este "Jugulator" de 1997 unas cuantas canciones cantadas por Tim "Ripper" Owens que me agradan mucho. Canciones para una vida - Refuge - The Man In The Ivory Tower

THE  MAN  IN  THE  IVORY  TOWER

"Refuge" es un nuevo capitulo, podríamos decir, en la historia ya larga de la banda "Rage", que últimamente, en la pasada década ha dado tanto que hablar en lo referente a su cambio de enfoque compositivo, a los proyectos paralelos en los que Peter "Peavy" Wagner daba salida a esa necesidad de crear música también, más orquestal "LMO Rage", y trataba después de callar bocas con el material editado bajo "Rage" solamente. Pues bien, un paso más del capitulo lo desarrollan ahora bajo este "Refuge", originalmente con la intención de reunirse puntualmente para hacer algún que otro "Show" en directo, bajo el nombre de "Tres Hombres" en que el propio Wagner se unía a sus ex compañeros en Rage Chris Eftimiadis a la batería y Manni Schmidt a las guitarras, allá por 2014. Evidentemente, viendo el tirón tratan de dar una cierta continuidad cambiándose el nombre al revelador "Refuge", tema y EP de Rage, con una tipografía de logo que además recuerda a la de Rage igualmente. Sin duda lo que más recuerda también a la banda es sin duda su sonido, con un aire mucho más a Rage clásicos, Sin duda al escuchar este material de "Refuge" uno se va rápido a los "Black in mind" y "End of all days", para alegría de los amantes del sonido de esa época. De momento solo han editado un único LP, "Solitary Men", de este 2018, y del que hoy quiero dejar un tema en el blog, en concreto "The man in the ivory tower", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Grave Digger - Heavy Metal Breakdown

HEAVY  METAL  BREAKDOWN

Toda gran historia tiene un inicio, y la de esta gran banda alemana se inicia con esta obra de la que hoy quiero dejar una canción. Estamos en el año 1984, y la banda editaba "Heavy metal breakdown", su primer larga duración. El grupo se había formado en 1980, y tras editar un par de demos se había lanzado a grabar su primer material en el 84, un disco en el que se veía ya un enorme potencial que terminaría por cuajar el la importante realidad que han llegado a ser. Importante poner el marco nacional e internacional a la banda, porque su sonido se explica como uno de los que inciarían otra cosa, banda Grave Digger que influiría posteriormente en muchos otros grupos, y que pondría su grano de arena a diseñar el sonido nuevo que desembocaría en el power. Sin embargo siempre han tenido una interpretación propia de ese power, más sucio, cercano a otros sonidos, y en estos incios era el speed. Si de algo habla este primer trabajo es de originalidad, contundencia y garra, señas que conformarían una carrera que aún hoy continúa. Dejo hoy el tema que da nombre a esta primera obra, "Heavy metal breakdown", uno de sus primeros temas clásicos, reeditado en el "Exhumation" de 2015, y del que hoy quiero dejar la versión original, auténtica y eterna, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Them - Witchfinder

WITCHFINDER

 Them es una banda de esas que nacen de manera espontánea y progresiva, uno de esos grupos que crecen alrededor de una idea que originalmente no era la de hacer una banda como tal, sino que viene de otra idea, en este caso de la de un grupo tributo a una de las bandas clásicas e influyentes como es King Diamond. La figura tras la banda es el estadounidense Troy Norr, cantante y motor de lo que terminaría por convertirse en una banda real, "Them". Los músicos que componen el grupo son estadounidenses y alemanes, con abultados curriculums en otras bandas aunque la mayoría bastante desconocidas. En 2008 comienza la andadura del grupo como banda  tributo hasta que en 2011 Troy comienza a ver la posibilidad de crear su propio material y banda como tal. Esto sucede en 2014 y será en 2016 cuando editen su primer material propio en forma de EP, "Fear Them", en febrero, siendo septiembre de ese mismo 2016 la fecha en que ve la luz su primer LP, "Sweet Hollow". Este 2018 ha sido el año de publicación de su segundo larga duración, "Manor of the seven gables" del que hoy quiero dejar un tema en el blog. La obra de "Them" se centra en un heavy metal muy en la onda de su "espejo" musical "King Diamond", siendo fiel a la temática de terror y conceptual, incluyendo el atuendo apropiado en su presentación musical. Canciones para una vida - Elvenking - Pathfinders

PATHFINDERS

Hoy de nuevo recurro al material inicial de la banda italiana "Elvenking", el que sin duda alguna me resulta más interesante. Tras el magnífico primer disco de la banda "Heathenreel" de 2001 en 2004 veía la luz el segundo esfuerzo titulado "Wyrd", digno sucesor del debut y que cuenta con la particularidad de no estar grabado con el mismo vocalista que tanto antes como posteriormente se encargaría de las voces en todo el material de la banda, que no es otro que "Damnagoras" Davide Moras. Para esta segunda obra fue sustituido por "Kleid" Massimo Bottiglieri, curiosamente poco después de grabar el disco, en el propio 2004 Damnagoras retornaría a la banda para encargarse, como decía más arriba, de prestar su voz tan personal a todo el resto del material de la banda. Obra pues recomendable este "Wyrd" de los italianos, de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema, en concreto "Pathfinders", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Amorphis - Honeyflow

HONEYFLOW

Otra de las canciones de la última obra de los finlandeses Amorphis, banda en forma como pocas, sus trabajos por lo general suelen ser sinónimo de calidad, y además en conjunto, es uno de esos grupos cuyas obras tienen un gran peso en total, no por temas sueltos. Sinceramente creo que estamos ante uno de los discos de este 2018, y mucho me temo que al final iré dejando en el blog todos y cada uno de los temas de este "Queen of time". Para no resultar más repetitivo tan solo dejar un enlace a la canción que hoy quiero dejar, "Honeyflow", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube, una canción que sirvió de single de adelanto y curiosamente luego no estaba incluida en la versión normal de la obra, sino que aparece como bonus track en la edición especial japonesa. Discazo, una vez más.

Canciones para una vida - From North - Sworn Brotherhood

SWORN  BROTHERHOOD

De nuevo traigo al blog a esta banda sueca de folk death melódico de la que ya dejé hace tiempo una canción. Se trata de una banda, como ya he dicho en el blog, de reciente formación, (2016) y que tan solo tiene editado un único LP, de título homónimo al nombre de la banda, editado el pasado 2017 tan solo de manera digital. Temática nórdica, un corte compositivo épico, que en ciertas ocasiones, sobre todo en las que no utilizan la voz gutural, tienen un cierto aire casi power. Hoy pués, quiero dejar otra de las canciones de la obra, otra de las más "medio tiempo" en que usan voz limpia, "Sworn Brotherhood", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
