Canciones para una vida - Trick Or Treat - United

Primer adelanto del que será ya cuarto LP "Rabbit's Hill Pt. 2" de esta buena banda italiana de Power metal, y de la que ya he hablado en otra ocasión en el blog. Como ya he dicho en mi otra entrada sobre la banda "Trick or Treat", manofactura una música sin embargo que, en mi opinión, no es acorde al estereotipo de sonido italiano dentro del power, acercándose su concepto más al de la escuela germana u otras del norte en cuanto a sonido, eso si, estrictamente dentro del concepto power. Quizá sea un poco esta la idea de la banda desde su concepción, ya que de hecho en sus inicios la banda se creo como un grupo tributo a Helloween, igualmente, y muy acorde a ese concepto "happy helloweenero" la temática de sus canciones giran muchas veces en torno a la felicidad, alegría, vida o fantasía literaria. El grupo se forma en 2002, como digo como tributo a Helloween, para comenzar posteriormente a escribir material propio. Tienen editados tres discos de estudio entre 2006 y 2012 y este "Rabbit's Hill Pt. 2" que saldrá a la venta este próximo 8 de Julio que será como decía más arriba su cuarta obra. El primer adelanto lo presentan con la colaboración de lujo a la voz del cantante de Sonata Arctica Tony Kakko, y en su sonido se intuye una continuación en la linea de la banda, con ese sonido digamos más "Europeo" que propiamente "Italiano", un tema del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube de su lyric video oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Rage - The Devil Strikes Again

THE  DEVIL  STRIKES  AGAIN

Segundo adelanto del nuevo disco de Rage que sale a a la venta exactamente hoy, un disco esperado tras los acontecimientos que se han sucedido en el seno de la banda con la salida Victor Smolsky (Guitarrista desde 1999 y con un papel importante compositivamente dentro del grupo desde su llegada). Este segundo tema de adelanto tiene más el toque clásico y con garra de la banda, algo que sinceramente yo ponía en duda tras la aventura "LMO" de  Peter "Peavy" Wagner.  Rage es una banda de Alemania que se formó con el nombre de Avenger en 1984 sacando un disco bajo esa denominación en 1985. A partir de 1986 comenzaron a llamarse Rage y con ese nombre han sacado la friolera de 20 discos de estudio hasta la fecha de esta reseña, 21 con el presente "The devil strikes again". Su música ha evolucionado desde sus comienzos de un heavy speed power metal con toques thrash hasta el power metal con toques sinfónicos y orquestaciones de hoy en día, y han pasado por cambios en su formación aunque siempre con músicos de gran reputación. Rage es una banda de enorme productividad, grabando material cada año desde su formación, algo bastante inusual y sin dejar de lado la calidad. Para lograr algo así se han apoyado en la grabación de muchos EP's, exactamente 10, además de sus discos oficiales de estudio. Como decía al inicio este tema que dejo hoy en el blog y que da título a la nueva obra, "The devil strikes again" tiene un toque más contundente, más en la linea del sonido que les hizo grandes, pero hasta que no escuche todo el disco no puedo hacerme una idea general de él. De momento dejo un enlace a youtube del clip oficial del tema. Veremos como suena la obra completa y la continuidad a largo plazo de la nueva formación del grupo.

Canciones para una vida - Amon Amarth - Raise Your Horns

RAISE  YOUR  HORNS

Aumenta la discografía de Amon Amarth, disco a disco más pulida, que ha ido poco a poco incrementando su legión de seguidores, y muy posiblemente lo sigan haciendo con este "Jomsviking", y es que parece que los antiguos fueros de la banda se marcharon en busca de sangre nueva sedienta de un sonido menos crudo, más melódico y vendible, no quiero que se tome este comentario como una crítica, primero porque cada banda en mi humilde opinión tiene todo el derecho a tomar su camino por donde mejor le plazca, pero está claro que el último disco de los suecos no será del todo del agrado de los más antiguos seguidores de la banda, al contrario de lo que pasará con los más nuevos. No se si en esto tendrá o no que ver su fichaje por Nuclear Blast o no, pero es cierto que la fama del sello es el de influir demasiado en sus bandas, y después de su paso por él todas, o muchas, terminan cagándose en el momento en que decidieron dar ese paso de fichar por, eso si sin duda, uno de los sellos más grandes y que mejor promoción puede hacerles, pero a veces el precio es demasiado alto, una vez más parece cumplirse la leyenda y a Amon Amarth le está tocando ahora. En definitiva, no creo para nada que estemos ante un mal disco, lo que creo es que estamos ante un cambio de tercio de la banda tornándose en un estilo más melódico y accesible, para desesperación de unos, (los fans de siempre), y alegría de otros, (los más nuevos). Canciones para una vida - Vortex - Open The Gate

OPEN THE GATE

 Otro claro ejemplo de como fue de grande la escena internacional de los ochenta, de que destacable era el trabajo compositivo incluso aunque nos refiramos a bandas absolutamente underground, y bandas que apenas llegaron a salir de ese ámbito. Hoy quiero recuperar la escena holandesa, otra escuela que a comienzos de los 80 tuvo una cierta importancia, no tanto por el reconocimiento en sí como por las bandas que dio en esos años, a pesar de que muchas de ellas no lograsen asomar demasiado la cabeza, una escuela metálica esta holandesa de esos años a medio camino entre la omnipresente NWOBHM y la incipiente corriente alemana que se haría con el control del sonido heavy power europeo y mundial en la segunda mitad de la dorada década de los 80. Uno de esos ejemplo holandeses es esta banda de la que hoy quiero hablar ene l blog, "Vortex", con su heavy metal con vocación de "Terror", un poco a la imagen del gran "King diamond", salvando las diferencias, claro está, lo que era evidente era la concepción muy personal de su sonido e imagen. Además, cumple otra de esas premisas que ultimamente están cumpliendo grupos de esa época y es intentar tener una segunda parte de una carrera que finalizó demasiado temprano, y es que no pocas de esas bandas que apenas tuvieron repercusión han vuelto, muchas de ellas en esta década. El caso de Vortex es un retorno desde 1998 y han editado varios discos desde ese momento. Se forman en 1979 y en 1990 lo dejaron siendo una época bastante larga pero con poco material editado, realmente un EP en 1985 seguido de su primer LP "Open the gate" en 1986. Tras su reunión han editado otro EP y cuatro LP's más que hasta la fecha de esta reseña han completado su discografía. Canciones para una vida - Ninja - Hard As Steel

HARD  AS  STEEL

De nuevo un rescate de los ochenta en el blog, una banda en esta ocasión de heavy metal, y procedentes de Alemania. Se trata de "Ninja", un grupo que tuvo su ocasión en algunos de los años dorados del heavy metal clásico y que se disolvió en la década de los 90 para volver a juntarse en 2014 para intentar una segunda parte de su aventura musical. El grupo nunca llego a tener una gran repercusión pero su música resulta bastante interesante, sobre todo si eres de los que disfrutan del heavy metal de toda la vida. Ninja se forma en 1986 y en 1988 editan su primer LP, este "Invincible" del que hoy quiero dejar un tema en el blog. En la década de los 90 editarían otro par de obras, "Liberty" en 1992 y "Valley of wolves" en 1997, tras la cual cesan en su actividad. En 2014, dos de sus miembros originales se reunen y tras completar la alineación de la banda reanudad su actividad editando un cuarto álbum en 2014. Hoy, como decía al inicio, quiero dejar un tema de su primer LP, "Invincible", concretamente este "Hard as steel" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Wings Of Destiny - Angels & Demons

ANGELS  &  DEMONS

Una prueba más de que estamos ante la globalización absoluta del heavy metal a nivel planetario encarnada en esta banda de power metal del continente americano. Se trata de "Wings of Destiny". Es mucho más que evidente que del otro lado del charco nos vienen llegando bandas desde los mismos orígenes de nuestro sonido, siendo incluso la escuela estadounidense una de sus cunas y referente que impulsó mucho nuestra amada música en sus comienzos, siendo igualmente importante la escuela canadiense también al comienzo. En los últimos años, (aunque no solo), ha habido un repunte grande por ejemplo en Argentina, dando bandas muy interesantes y con un buen nombre internacional, además de la cantera brasileña que gracias a "Angra" siempre tubo un espejo en el que mirarse. Pero de un tiempo a esta parte, y no solo en el continente americano, van surgiendo bandas en países con muy poca o nula tradición heavy, es el caso, por ejemplo, de Costa Rica, y de estos Winds of Destiny, una más que reseñable sorpresa internacional que en estos días ha editado su segundo larga duración. Esta banda hace un power metal que hará las delicias de los amantes del género, con ciertas influencias de bandas europeas o americanas, con en ocasiones un cierto aire progresivo y sinfónico, y con colaboraciones de lujo como en el tema que dejo hoy en el blog, nada menos que con Fabio Lione. Wings of destiny comienza su aventura musical bajo el nombre de "Destiny" en 2013. Con ese nombre editarían su primer LP, "Time", que posteriormente y tras firmar con su actual discográfica reeditan en 2015 ya con el nombre de "Wings of destiny". En este 2016 han editado su segundo larga duración, este "Kings of terror" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog el tema "Angels & Demons", como decía más arriba con la colaboración a la voz del enorme Fabio Lione, capáz de dar con su sola presencia un toque extra a un buen tema. La verdad es que esta banda es interesante, promete llegar lejos, y este tema "Angels & demons" es una buena muestra de lo que digo, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Brymir - Battle For Pagan Might

BATTLE FOR PAGAN MIGHT

Difícil para mi hablar de esta nueva obra de los finlandeses Brymir, un grupo del que ya me he declarado en varias ocasiones aquí en el blog como amante de su extraordinaria primera obra, de la que ya he dejado varios temas en estas páginas metálicas, pero, tras una larga espera, que ya me hacía sospechar algo malo, puesto que cinco años para editar un segundo álbum suele indicar cosas, que por desgracia en la mayoría de ocasiones suelen ser más malas que buenas, pues suele indicar giras demasiado largas, (aunque raramente en discos debut), desmantelamiento de parte de las bandas, falta de ideas para dar continuidad a un buen álbum previo o una búsqueda en otros senderos musicales de las propias bandas que suele acabar, en no pocas ocasiones, en un desastre más que en un aumento de repercusión. No se, pero sea como sea, en esta ocasión me parece un poco de falta de ideas unido a un intento de desmarcarse del sonido "Ensiferumiano" de su primera obra, el caso es que no creo que las bandas deban intentar ocultar lo que son, y todo aquel que conozca el trabajo previo de Brymir y un poco su historia sabrá que Ensiferum es un punto importante con el que contar a la hora de hablar de Brymir, no solo por el sonido evidente de sus canciones, sino también porque la propia banda (Brymir), se creo como un proyecto que versionaba a sus compatriotas Ensiferum. Me parece fenomenal que las bandas intenten buscar su propio sonido pero en esta ocasión las composiciones del nuevo disco han perdido ese filo que si tenían en su disco debut, dicho sea esto con todo el respeto y las precauciones de haber escuchado la obra nueva solo unas cuatro veces, pero es más que suficiente para saber que sin duda, en mi humilde opinión, este "Slayer of gods" no alcanzará la calidad compositiva del magnífico "Breathe fire to the sun", de 2011. Una prueba evidente de lo que digo, y en mi humilde opinión, desde luego, es que el tema que más me ha llamado la atención de la obra sea este "Battle for pagan might", incluido como bonus track en la edición especial, pero que es un tema perteneciente a su demo, regrabado para la ocasión y que tendría sin duda mejor cabida en su primer LP. Un tema este "Battle for pagan might" muy Ensiferum, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Morton - Through The Never (I Will Return)

THROUGH THE NEVER (I WILL RETURN)

Adelanto de la que será nueva obra de Morton, aún sin fecha oficial de salida a fecha de esta reseña y de la que desconozco igualmente el título, lo que si que se es que, escuchando este tema y habiendo sacado bien el jugo a su LP anterior y debut "Come read the words forbidden", creo que nos encontramos ante una banda con un más que prometedor futuro. Estos ucranianos, originalmente fundan Morton dos de sus componentes actuales, llevando el nombre de Max "Morton" Pasechnik, que es la mente creadora así como cantante y bajista del grupo. Como podemos leer en su Facebook ya tienen casi a punto su segundo álbum y desde 2011 se han incorporado dos componentes más a la formación, lo que promete que estos chicos sigan en la brecha y que no sea flor de un día este trabajo tan bueno. Como puede apreciarse en este tema nuevo, conservan gran parte del sonido del anterior disco, pero además han incluido otros elementos que enriquecen su propuesta, de esta manera, además de ese baño general power metalero de corte europeo y pulcra ejecución, podemos intuir toques más modernos, y además un cierto aire casi progresivo, muy destacable por ejemplo en la parte final-punteo de la canción sobre el minuto 4:15 hasta un minuto después, muy "Dream Theaterico" o ese toque black en un par de ocasiones. Canciones para una vida - Witch Cross - Light Of A Torch

LIGHT  OF  A  TORCH

Un nuevo vistazo a la escena europea del heavy metal de los ochenta, esa época que tanto marco a las bandas que les siguieron y que fue tan prolífica y tan auténtica. Hoy quiero traer al blog a una banda danesa llamada Witch Cross, un grupo de heavy metal de alta calidad y, como en tantas otras ocasiones, con una existencia demasiado breve que nos dejo realmente solo un puñado de canciones, pero que sirven bien para ver el potencial que atesoraban. Además cumplen otra de las premisas que muchos de esos grupos bastante desconocidos y de breve duración están cumpliendo ultimamente, que es la de haberse reunido recientemente para realizar una segunda parte de su carrera. Witch Cross se forma en 1979 funcionando bajo el nombre de "Blood Eagle" hasta 1981. Es en 1982 cuando deciden cambiar su nombre a "Witch Cross" publicando un solo álbum en 1984, "Fit for fight", antes de separarse en 1986. En 2011 deciden resucitar el proyecto editando un segundo LP, "Axe to grind", y siguen en activo. Hoy, como decía al inicio, quiero resucitar en el blog el sonido primigenio de la banda, ese primer esfuerzo lleno de honestidad, fuerza y autenticidad de la vieja escuela heavy metal. En concreto quiero dejar el tema "Light of a torch", de su primer LP de 1984, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Yonder Realm - By The Fangs That Weep

Yonder Realm es un grupo estadounidense que hace una música que ellos mismos denominan como "cosmic Folk Metal", curiosa denominación, para hacernos una idea mejor yo les definiría como un death melódico con buena carga folk y un corte más europeo que americano compositivamente hablando. El grupo fue fundado en 2009 por Jesse McGunnigle (Cantante y gitarrista)  y  Edward Delinden (Batería), ambos militantes de la banda de death melodico "InRed". En este proyecto paralelo dan salida a un lado más folk que en su banda madre. La banda ha editado a fecha de esta reseña, un EP, "Beyond a long lost world", de 2011, del que hoy quiero dejar un tema en el blog, y un LP, "The Old Ways", del pasado 2014. Como digo, hoy quiero volver la mirada hacia su primer material editado, para referirme a su EP "Beyond a long lost world", de 2011, un trabajo muy completo y de extraordinaria calidad si eres amante del estilo, una gran sorpresa que les puso en el mapa internacional para todos aquellos que les hemos escuchado. Este trabajo, autoproducido, se compone de seis temas, a cual mejor, mucha melodía y una calidad que les presentaba en sociedad con un sonido de corte mucho más europeo que lo que pudiesemos pensar mirando solo a su origen. Aconsejo dar una buena oída a todo este EP, que en principio, y dicho sea con todas las precauciones de no haber escuchado aun todo lo que debiera su LP, me ha gustado más que este último, aunque como digo, le debo alguna escucha aún a su "The Old Ways". Sin más, dejo un enlace a youtube de otro de los temas del EP "Beyond a long lost world", en concreto "By the fangs that weep". Altamente recomendable toda esta obra.

Canciones para una vida - Fireforce - Fly Arrow Fly (Crecy 1346)

FLY  ARROW  FLY  (CRECY  1346)

Un poco de power metal desde Belgica, encarnado en el grupo "Fireforce". Se trata de una banda que lleva en activo desde 2008 en que comienzan este proyecto musical y en ese tiempo de vida han editado un EP "Moonlight Lady" y dos LP's, "March On" de 2011 y "Deathbringer" de 2014. Musicalmente hablando nos encontramos ante una banda que hace un power metal de escuela europea, de concepción clásica mirandose en la escuela alemana que fue la impulsora principal de este tipo de sonido, con liricas en sus canciones de corte historicas y epicas, batallas historicas y ese tipo de concepto en el que se inspiran, un poco en la onda de Sabaton en ese sentido pero no en el sonido, ya que por ejemplo "Fireforce" no destaca por el uso de teclados como si lo hacen los suecos Sabaton a los que me he referido. Esta banda por lo tanto nos muestra esa vertiente del power metal sin abuso de adornos, sin orquestaciones y demás y por ello se hace merecedora del apelativo de "vieja escuela", emulando los inicios del movimiento power metal. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de su primer larga duración, concretamente "Fly arrow fly (Crecy 1346)", donde podemos ver su buen potencial, un tema del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.
