Canciones para una vida - Yngwie Malmsteen - Making Love

MAKING LOVE

Hoy dejo en el blog una canción del genial guitarrista Yngwie Malmsteen. Nacido en Suecia, este guitarrista es una de las mayores influencias del subgénero Neoclassical metal, y uno de los primeros del Shred, que se refiere al subgénero que en el Heavy Metal habla de una  ejecución en guitarra de piezas con un alto nivel de complejidad, muy técnicos y a alta velocidad. Yngwie se ve influido desde chaval por la música de Ritchie Blackmore y la música clásica. Comienza su andadura musical formando dos grupos, Steeler (Estados Unidos) en primer lugar, al que no hay que confundir con Steeler (Alemania), en el que militó en sus inicios Axel Rudi Pell. Con Steeler (USA), Yngwie graba un solo LP en 1983 y pasa a formar Alkatrazz, con quienes graba otro, también en 1983 y donde comienza a aproximarse a un estilo más propio. Pronto decide comenzar su carrera en solitario y así en 1984 saca su primer disco de estudio bajo el nombre de Yngwie Malmsteen. Desde entonces 18 discos han visto la luz. Su música muchas veces resulta demasiado compleja para oídos inexpertos o no acostumbrados, con una excesiva preocupación por demostrar su virtuosismo en solos hiper rápidos que le hacen en ocasiones perder incluso el sentido musical, sin embargo siempre encontramos temas más accesibles y así entre su amplia discografía hallamos muy buenas canciones. Siempre se ha rodeado de muy buenos músicos, como Jens o Anders Johansson, y muchos otros y en funciones vocales la lista es especialmente amplia y de calidad como Jeff Scott Soto, Mark Boals, Joe Lynn Turner, Goran Edman, Michael Vescera, Mats Leven, Doogie White, o Tim "Ripper" Owens, entre otros. Quiero dejar en el blog una canción llamada Making love, de su quinto disco de estudio, Eclipse, de 1990, con Goran Edman a la voz, un tema fácil de escuchar y uno de los que más me gustan aunque tendremos que volver con este músico más adelante en el blog. Canciones para una vida - Bruce Dickinson - Tears Of The Dragon

TEARS OF THE DRAGON

Hoy hablaremos de un artista que no necesita de ninguna presentación, se trata del vocalista británico Bruce Dickinson, archiconocido por su labor en Iron Maiden. Sus comienzos como músico en solitario suceden a comienzos de los 90, cuando se le propone regrabar una versión de la canción Bring your daughter to the slaughter, de los Maiden, para una película de la saga Pesadilla en Elm street. En el año 1990 saca su primer trabajo bajo el nombre de Bruce Dickinson con su Tattoed Millionaire. Tentado por la nueva experiencia decide dejar Iron Maiden en 1993 y saca en 1994 su segunda obra de estudio, este balls to Picasso, que para mi es junto a Accident of Birth, su siguiente obra de estudio, su mejor material. En total editará 6 discos de estudio en solitario hasta 2005. En 1999 se reune nuevamente con los miticos Maiden para trabajar solo puntualmente en su material propio. Entre tanto, del material compuesto para su carrera en solitario me quiero quedar en esta ocasión con el tema Tears of the dragon, como digo de 1994, uno de sus temas más conocidos posiblemente y una gran canción sin duda de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Iron Fire - Kill For Metal

KILL FOR METAL

Una banda desde Dinamarca para hoy con su power - speed metal de temática fantástico - épica. Iron Fire se forman en 1995 bajo el nombre de Misery, una banda que comenzó sus días haciendo versiones y tocando en la escena underground. En ese mismo año de 1995 se cambian el nombre a Decades of Darkness para seguir haciendo versiones. Los creadores de la banda fueron el cantante Martin Steene y el guitarrista Kristian Iversen, quien dejaría la banda tras su primer disco. En 1998 y ya bajo el nombre de Iron Fire comienzan a sacar material propio y en 2000 sacan su  primer LP. Desde entonces tiene editados 7 discos de estudio de un power metal de corte clásico y europeo. Desde luego estos daneses no han inventado nada nuevo pero entre su discografía encontramos buenos temas como este Kill For Metal, un tema que nos enseña el potencial de la banda, muy facil de escuchar, un tiro de canción que se mete a la primera en tu mente, sacado de su quinto disco, To the grave, de 2009. Canciones para una vida - At Vance - Sing This Song

SING THIS SONG

Una banda alemana de power - neoclassical para hoy. Se trata de At Vance, nacidos bajo el nombre de Centers,comienzan a utilizar el nombre de At Vance a partir de 1998, sacando su primera obra de estudio es 1999, desde ese momento 9 LP's han visto la luz y el grupo ha sufrido varios cambios en la formación original, así, de los dos integrantes originales, Olaf Lenk en las guitarras y teclados y Oliver Hartmann a la voz, tan solo Olaf continua, abandonando Oliver la formación en 2003, siendo este Only Human al que quiero referirme, de 2002 el último disco con Oliver en funciones vocales. El alma compositiva de la banda sin embargo era más bien Olaf Lenk así que, a pesar de la perdida de una de las señas de identidad del grupo que era la voz de Oliver Hartmann, el sonido en general no se vió demasiado alterado en obras posteriores, siendo además sustituido el vocalista por otros de fama internacional como Mats Leven entre 2003 y 2007 y Rick Altzy desde 2007 en adelante. Además, otra de las señas de identidad de la banda son las versiones de otras bandas como Rainbow o Abba, o de música clásica con Vivaldi, etc. Quiero dejar en el blog la canción Sing This Song, ya que es un tema de los que más me gustan del grupo y además de uno de los discos mejores a mi entender, el Only human de 2002, su cuarta obra de estudio y última como digo con Oliver Hartmann a la voz, un disco que es bueno entero y que recomiendo escuchar. Canciones para una vida - Vigin Steele - Perfect Mansions (Mountains of the Sun)

PERFECT MANSIONS (MOUNTAINS OF THE SUN)

Virgin Steele es una banda estadounidense de power metal con un sello muy personal en su sonido, que en ocasiones nos recordará un poco a sus compatriotas y paisanos Neoyorquinos Manowar, sobre todo en algunos tonos vocales. Virgin Steele se forma en 1981 por el guitarrista Jack Starr que después incorporaría a los demás componentes del grupo, entre ellos al cantante David DeFeis, que le da ese toque tan personal con su forma de cantar. Curiosamente en 1984 el fundador Jack Starr deja la banda y tras luchas legales por el nombre de Virgin Steele no consigue quedarse con los derechos a pesar de ser miembro fundador. En su lugar, David DeFeis y los demás continuan su actividad bajo el nombre de Virgin Steele hasta nuestros días. Desde 1982 en que sacan su primer LP llevan 13 discos de estudio y dos EP's de un power un pelín speed y épico. A lo largo de su discografía encontramos muy buenos temas como este Perfect Mansions que hoy dejo en el blog, es un tema de 1997, aunque el disco es de 1988, y me explico, el disco es el cuarto de su carrera musical, de 1988, pero se regraba en 1997 metiendo más temas, entre ellos este Perfect Mansions, un medio tiempo - balada de casi 9 minutos pero que destila epicidad por todas partes y que siempre me ha gustado mucho. Canciones para una vida - Rebellion - Miklagard

MIKLAGARD

Hablar de Rebellion es hablar de Grave Digger. Su historia y creación va ligada a la banda germana pues parte de ella crea Rebellion al separarse de Grave Digger. Los Alemanes Rebellion son un contundente grupo de power metal que surge en 2001, tras la trilogía de Grave Digger del Tunes of war, Knights of the cross y Excalibur, en la posiblemente mejor época de esa banda. En ese momento, Tomi Gotttlich y Uwe Lulis, deciden por desacuerdos con Chris Boltendahl separar sus caminos, llegando a litigar incluso por la posesión del nombre de Grave Digger. Finalmente se decantan por la utilización de Rebellion, uno de los temas más conocidos de su banda madre. Rebellion sin embargo no es una banda de relleno o carece de calidad, todo lo contrario, es una gran banda que para mi forma de ver esta completamente menospreciada. Comienzan a sacar material en 2002 y desde ese momento 6 discos de estudio han visto la luz bajo el nombre Rebellion, así como un EP. Su mejor momento para mi es la trilogía vikinga entre 2005 y 2009, siendo su tercera obra de estudio y primera de dicha trilogía, el Sagas of Iceland, de 2005, mi disco favorito de su discografía, aunque tienen grandes temas repartidos por toda ella. He querido traer al blog este Miklagard, la segunda obra de la trilogía vikinga, de 2007, y de ella la canción Miklagard, un épico tema que deja completamente claras las intenciones musicales de la banda que, sin embargo en 2010 sufrió la salida de Uwe Lulis, lo cual posiblemente ha repercutido en la calidad de su última obra, de 2013, que sin ser mala no alcanza el nivel de la trilogía vikinga en mi humilde opinión. En fin, una gran banda estos Rebellion en la que buscar himnos épicos, altamente recomendable. Dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Falkenbach - Vanadis

VANADIS

Quiero traer al blog uno de esos grupos de culto dentro del llamado viking metal, se trata de la banda alemana Falkenbach, un grupo de un solo hombre, su creador Vratyas Vakyas, quien se encarga de tocar todos los instrumentos y crear todas las composiciones y arreglos en Falkenbach. Se trata por lo tanto de un grupo muy peculiar desde su concepción, y es indudablemente una banda diferente. Se forma en 1989 y antes de decidirse a grabar un LP, Falkenbach saca 6 demos hasta que en 1996 ve la luz su primera obra de estudio. Desde ese momento 6 son sus CD's, el último sacado el año pasado. Sus grabaciones tienen la característica de un sonido que puede resultar muy "amateur" a primera escucha pero a la larga crea un ambiente muy particular que resulta efectivo en el concepto musical que desarrolla el músico, pasando a ser todo un sello personal de la banda. He querido trer el disco Ok Nefna tysvar ty, de 2003, del que destaco la canción Vanadis, un tema muy en la onda Falkenbach y bastante asequible para todos los públicos, aunque no se haya escuchado nada antes del grupo, y aunque sea un tema de 9 minutos, característica de muchas canciones de Falkenbach, no resulta pesado. En esta canción podemos encontrar la épica típica de la banda resultando uno de mis favoritos de su obra musical. Dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Ten - Evermore

EVERMORE

Un poquito de Hard rock Inglés para hoy. Se trata de Ten, la banda creada por Gary Hughes en 1995. Este cantante y compositor británico había trabajado con gente como Bob Catley de Magnum o Ayreon. Tras sacar un par de discos en solitario, al grabar lo que sería su tercera obra bajo su propio nombre decide crear la banda Ten, con la que ya ha sacado desde 1996 10 discos de estudio. Su música es un hard rock muy melódico que en muchas ocasiones tienen un cierto toque épico como ocurre por ejemplo en el que probablemente sea el disco de ellos que más me gusta que se llama Spellbound de 1999, su cuarta obra de estudio de la que hablaremos otro día. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema del septimo album, Return to evermore de 2004, una buena obra en conjunto de la que quiero destacar este Evermore, un tema que desde la primera vez que lo escuché me trae un cierto recuerdo a todo un clásico de Gary Moore, su Over the hills and far away, de la que algún día hablaremos también por aquí. Aunque sea solo un cierto toque la canción va en esa onda y enseguida te entra. Merece la pena acercarse a la música de Hughes porque siempre se encuentran temas buenos en su discografía. Canciones para una vida - Armored Saint - Raising Fear

RAISING FEAR

Hablar de este grupo es hablar de continuas separaciones y reencuentros. Estos estadounidenses se formaron en 1982 por el cantante John Bush y los Guitarristas Dave Pritchard y Phil Sandoval, Gonzo Sandoval a la bateria y Joey Vera al bajo. Con seis discos de estudio y un EP su producción de obras resulta un tanto escasa aunque es normal atendiendo a la ajetreada trayectoria de la banda. Tres épocas para este grupo, del 82 al 92, separación por la muerte de uno de los guitarristas fundadores, del 99 a 2003, y desde 2008 hasta hoy en día, viendo la luz su última obra en 2010. Armored saint hace un heavy metal con un toque de su tierra, muy americano, muy a lo Bay arena Angelino, con cierta afinidad al thrash de la época pero en estilo heavy, y como dato curioso John Bush fue llamado por Metallica para que formase parte de su banda en funciones vocales, algo que John Rechazó. También otro miembro de la banda, el bajista Joey Vera formó parte de otra banda mítica como son Anthrax, tras la salida de Joey Belladona, pasando también por las audiciones para bajista de Metallica tras la muerte de Cliff Burton. Atendiendo a tanto ajetreo es normal las idas y venidas de esta banda en la escena musical. La calidad de estos chicos es incuestionable y quiero traer al blog su tercera obra de estudio, de 1987, este Raising Fear, y de ella quiero destacar este tema, homónimo al disco, que siempre me ha gustado mucho. Canciones para una vida - Dark At Dawn - Avalon

AVALON

Una gran banda alemana que se dedica al power metal con un toque oscuro al que quizás contribuya la peculiar voz de Thorsten Kohlrausch, un poco en la onda del cantante de Grave Digger, Chris Boltendahl. Dark at dawn comienza su andadura musical el año 1993, tiempo desde el que han sacado 4 discos de estudio y 2 EP's. De la formación inicial tan solo quedan el vocalista Thorsten Kohlrausch y el bajista Michael Lowin, y desde 2006, año en el que sacaron su disco Homónimo, este Dark At Dawn del que sacamos la canción Avalon a la que hoy quiero referirme, no han sacado más discos de estudio salvo el EP Noneternal en 2012. Avalon es una de mis canciones favoritas de la banda, con un toque épico y que sirve bien para hacernos una idea de la calidad de este grupo, aunque posiblemente si tengo que escoger todo un album me quedaría con el Baneful Skies de 1999 su primer LP al que me referiré más adelante en el blog. Recomiendo acercarse a esta buena banda pues tiene muy buenos temas en su discografía además de un estilo muy personal. Dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Fifth Angel - Seven Hours

SEVEN HOURS

Para hoy un poquito de hard ' n ' heavy de los ochenta, se trata del gran grupo Fifth Angel desde Estados Unidos. Fueron un grupo que tuvo un paso demasiado fugaz por la escena musical puesto que se formaron en 1983 y solo sacaron dos discos, en 1986 y 1989, pero dejaron una huella profunda en mucha gente con esas dos obras. Su música es un hard rozando el heavy-power como hacían otros grupos de la época como Victory o Queensryche, aunque estos un pelin más hardrockeros,con unas composiciones muy fáciles de escuchar. Desde la salida de este Time will tell, su segunda obra de estudio y última de 1989 cesan en su actividad y no se tiene noticia de ellos hasta el 2000 en que comienzan a oirse rumores de reunión, aunque esto no será así hasta 2009, en que comienzan a reclutar gente para poner en marcha la banda y desde 2010 se espera que saquen algo aunque de momento no hay nada nuevo. He querido traer una canción llamada Seven Hours que es una de las que más me gustan de la banda. En fin, un disco para recuperar un sonido clásico de heavy sin más con ese toque hard americano. Canciones para una vida - Angel Dust - Nightmare

NIGHTMARE

Una banda alemana que ha evolucionado en su música desde sus inicios más Thrash speed  hasta su toque progresivo y power de más adelante. Angel Dust se forma en 1984 y comienza a sacar material de estudio en 1986. Durante esta primera época sacan dos discos y en 1990 cesan su actividad por problemas internos entre los fundadores del grupo. Casi una década después uno de los fundadores de la banda, Frank Banx trata de resucitar al grupo y recluta a toda una nueva formación entre quienes incluye a su hermano Steven en los teclados. El estilo evoluciona y crean desde 1998, 5 nuevos LP's hasta 2002 momento en que dejan de grabar a pesar de que no hay comunicado oficial de que hayan cesado definitivamente. He querido traer una de mis canciones favoritas de la banda, este Nightmare, perteneciente al tercer disco de estudio, el primero desde la reactivación, sacado del LP Border of reality de 1998, un buen disco en general aunque creo que si tuviese que escoger un disco sería el Bleed, de 1999 que me parece más completo. Canciones para una vida - Morton - Weeping Bell

WEEPING BELL

Hoy traigo al blog un grupo desconocido en general pero con una increible calidad, se trata de los ucranianos Morton, que realizan un power metal impresionante. La banda se formó en 2009 y hasta la fecha de esta reseña tan solo ha sacado un EP en 2010 y este LP Come read the words forbidden de 2011. Originalmente la fundan dos de sus componentes actuales, llevando el nombre de Max "Morton" Pasechnik, que es la mente creadora así como cantante y bajista del grupo. Como podemos leer en su Facebook ya están trabajando en su segundo album y desde 2011 se han incorporado dos componentes más a la formación, lo que promete que estos chicos sigan en la brecha y que no sea flor de un día este trabajo tan bueno. Quiero dejar un enlace a esta canción Weeping Bell, un tema que resulta muy bueno para calibrar el potencial tremendo de esta gente que promete dar que hablar en el futuro.

Canciones para una vida - Warlock - All We Are

ALL WE ARE

Toda una canción clásica dentro del heavy metal. Se trata de los alemanes Warlock. Se forman en 1982 y comienzan a sacar una demo en 1983, viendo la luz su primer disco de estudio en 1984. Sacarán bajo esta denominación de Warlock 4 discos de estudio en total hasta este Triumph and agony, el cuarto y último en 1987. Como todos sabemos, Warlock es la banda original de la conocida vocalista Doro Pesch. La formación original de Warlock fue perdiendo miembros desde su segundo disco, hasta que tras este triumph and agony tan solo Doro quedaba como miembro fundador de la banda y decide cesar la actividad como Warlock para pasar la banda a funcionar bajo el nombre de Doro, momento desde el que la banda ha sacado 12 Discos de estudio y numerosos EP's. Se puede decir que Doro por lo tanto es una continuación de Warlock pero su música ha evolucionado desde los tiempos de su banda madre, aunque utiliza habitualmente en su repertorio en directo temas de Warlock. He querido traer al blog la que es sin duda una de sus canciones más icónicas, todo un estribillo del heavy metal. En general este disco entero de Warlock se puede considerar un clásico y siempre debemos rescatar estas obras fundamentales para nuestra música. Dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Axel Rudi Pell - Ashes From The Oath

ASHES FROM THE OATH

Hoy quiero hablar en el blog del guitarrista alemán Axel Rudi Pell. Se trata de un músico que lleva ya un montón de años en la escena musical y que cuenta con una gran reputación, para mi gusto merecida, habiendo trabajado con músicos de primera fila. La aventura musical de Axel Rudi Pell comienza con la banda Steeler, allá por el año 1981. Tras su paso por dicha banda decide en 1989 comenzar su andadura musical en solitario con su propio nombre. Desde entonces 16 discos de estudio nos hablan de un prolífico músico que viene a sacar un disco de estudio cada 2 años de media más o menos, sin contar sus recopilaciones de baladas que ya van por su cuarta entrega. Axel siempre se ha rodeado de grandes músicos como Jorg Michael o Mike Terrana en el puesto de bateria o como Rob Rock o Jeff Scott Soto en funciones vocales, aunque en este último puesto, Johnny Gioeli procedente de Hardline es quien más y para mi gusto mejor ha cubierto esta plaza, siendo ya seña de identidad en la música de Axel casi tanto como sus solos de guitarra. Siempre que escucho un disco de Axel Rudi Pell sé lo que voy a encontrar, y eso, a pesar de que a muchos les suene a que no evoluciona también se puede ver como su seña de identidad y para mi gusto no es nada malo pues su concepto musical es bueno y no veo porque tiene que cambiarlo. Una garantia de calidad en composición y sonido. He querido traer el disco que más me gusta como obra completa, su séptima obra de estudio, Oceans Of time, de 1998, y de ella destaco este largo tema, ashes from the oath, un medio tiempo, muy en la onda de su música, aunque podeis escoger cualquier otro de este disco y os sonará genial. Genial músico del que podriais distinguir un solo de guitarra suyo entre 10000 guitarristas diferente pues tiene un toque muy personal. Dejo un enlace a youtube.
