Vuelta a la época dorada de los estadounidenses Manowar, donde siempre rodeados de las polémicas extramusicales sin embargo estaban más en sintonía de grabación de discos y presentaciones en vivo como cualquier otra banda, algo que hace mucho que no es así. Corría el año 1987 cuando editaban el reconocido "Fighting the world", obra corta pero super completa, poseedora de himnos dentro del grupo y del propio heavy metal, y del que se siguen nutriendo para sus presentaciones en vivo, y de esa obra dejo hoy en el blog este otro tema, "Blow your speakers" del que dejo un enlace a youtube, otro clásico.

Battle Bratt - Winds Of Change

WINDS  OF  CHANGE 

Los estadounidenses Battle Bratt son otro de los grupos, (que hubo muchos), que llegaron tarde cronologicamente hablando al sonido que pretendían realizar, es decir, el planteamiento heavy metal de corte clásico para finales de la década de los ochenta ya no se veía con tan buenos ojos por la cantidad de corrientes más nuevas que iban surgiendo a uno y otro lado de dicho sonido, y si bien Battle Bratt le dio a su debut "Battle Bratt" de 1988 un cierto baño de hard rock, en una suerte de hard 'n heavy, se quedó en una obra poco reconocida y poco seguida lo que les dejaría en un "stand by" hasta 2006 en que reactivan su carrera aunque cambiando de registro compositivo. Blazon Stone - Cutthroat Island

CUTTHROAT  ISLAND 

Los suecos Blazon Stone están de vuelta en este 2025 para mostrarnos su capacidad emulativa del sonido corsario deudor sin duda del de los maestros Running Wild, en esta ocasión dando muestra de otra de sus virtudes, la de componer material de primerísimo nivel (sobre todo si eres amante del sonido de la vieja escuela), y además en gran cantidad, desde 2013 siete LP's de estudio y un octavo que prometen para inicios de 2026 del que han descartado algunos temas que ahora, a finales de este 2025 se permiten incluir en un EP con cuatro temas "Treasure Hunt", no todo el mundo está en disposición para descartar temas de este calibre lo que muestra a la perfección de la calidad de estos músicos. Helloween - Burning Sun

BURNING  SUN 

El décimo cuarto LP de estudio de los alemanes Helloween "Straigh out of hell", fue publicado en 2013, y en realidad tuvo una acogida algo fría acostumbrada la crítica a su extensa discografía que vio en esta obra un disco poco innovador y no demasiado completo desde un punto de vista de la obra en su conjunto. Considerado un disco con demasiados temas de relleno no por ello carece de gancho en momentos y así posee algún que otro single de esos que luego aparecen en los directos y en los recopilatorios como es el caso de "Burning sun", del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Treat - Mad Honey

MAD  HONEY 

No es fácil reinventarse, en general, más imagino para una banda veterana, pero además hacerlo con un nivel de ilusión y éxito grande, como parece el caso de los suecos Treat tiene más mérito todavía. La verdad es que ya en su anterior trabajo de estudio dejaron clara su nueva dirección, que no es sino un lavado de cara, una modernización, una puesta al día de lo que en realidad han hecho toda su carrera, pero con el espejo sonoro de muchas bandas hard modernas de éxito, muchas de su propio país, ellos han decidido coger ese tren y en este 2025 lo dejan claro con su último trabajo "the wild card" y por ejemplo este "Mad Honey" del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Steel Arctus - Defender Of Steel

 

DEFENDER  OF  STEEL 

Definitivamente los griegos Steel Arctus se consolidan en este 2025 con su tercer LP de estudio "Dreamruler", un trabajo bien acogido por la crítica por su solidez y la perpetuación del sonido de la banda, de su identidad sin renunciar al crecimiento personal como banda. Silver Bullet - Shadow Of A Curse

SHADOW  OF  A  CURSE 

Los finlandeses Silver Bullet son otra banda de esas interesantes que de momento se está quedando un poco en un segundo plano pero que indudablemente ha escogido una vía de crecimiento que en cualquier momento les puede llevar a explotar a un nivel superior de reconocimiento. En activo desde 2008 hasta 2016 no graban su debut y desde esa fecha un total de tres son las obras de estudio que adornan su discografía. Su estilo power les coloca en la órbita sonora de los grandes de género europeo, comparándoseles con Orden Ogan, (para mi no particularmente), pero de lo que no hay duda en absoluto es del potencial y de la calidad ya demostrada. En 2023 editaron su, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, último LP de estudio, "Shadowfall" del que ya he dejado en el blog algún tema y del que hoy dejo esta otra canción, "Shadow of a curse" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Mentalist - A New World

 

A  NEW  WORLD 

Los proyectos en los que se involucran grandes músicos tienen muchas posibilidades de dar que hablar aunque igualmente deben superar ese periodo de prueba para pasar de ser un proyecto puntual o alternativo a poder considerarlo como una banda con todas las garantías. En el caso de la banda internacional Mentalist, el nombre propio debe ser el del batería Thomen Stauch de sobra conocido para los amantes de Blind Guardian, y tras siete años desde su formación claramente han ingresado en ese grupo de bandas como tal, algo refrendado aún más en su crecimiento continuado a lo largo de sus cuatro LP's de estudio que han culminado con "earthbreaker" de este 2025, que no es sino un resumen y escaparate de las muchas cualidades de esta banda. El disco es irreprochable, una obra que brilla a alto nivel general y del que hoy dejo en el blog otro de sus temas, en este caso el que cierra la obra, "A new world", instrumentalmente muy maideniano me atrevería a decir, un temazo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

THE  LAST  KINGDOM 

 A base de oficio, persisitiendo en su idea, aumentando su oferta a base de obras no demasiado diferentes entre sí, ni diferentes de lo que se supone que debe ser el euro power, los germanos Hammer King editaban en este 2025 que ya está en las últimas su séptimo LP de estudio en una década de existencia, así, quizá supliendo la ausencia de originalidad en su propuesta con el citado tesón y la regularidad, ofrecen una experiencia sonora bien ejecutada y más que correcta en terminos power. Battleaxe - Thor Thunder Angel

THOR  THUNDER  ANGEL 

Que enorme capacidad de crear bandas tuvo la escena británica en su hiper conocida NWOBHM que surge con la década de los ochenta, muchos de esos grupos quedaron solo en un destello de lo que pudieron haber llegado a ser sin la masificación de grupos haciendo el mismo sonido en el mismo sitio, aún así, en muchos de esos casos una revisión del material publicado por todos aquellos grupos nos deja un ejercicio de descubrimiento casi inabarcable, pero completamente entrañable y productivo. Hoy de nuevo traigo al blog a la banda británica "Battleaxe" con su debut en este caso en formato LP "Burn This Town" de 1983, heavy metal de manual de este grupo formado en 1979, que tuvo un primer periodo de actividad entre 1979 y 1987, en que parieron sus dos primeros albumes, y un segundo periodo de actividad desde 2010 en adelante que daría como fruto en 2013 su tercer LP. WAR  PIGS 

Tema clasicote para hoy, de una banda eterna y clásica igualmente, fundamental y a la que si ya no tenía suficiente misticismo para el metalhead prototípico, la aún reciente e impactante  muerte de Ozzy a terminado de elevarles al siguiente nivel. 1970, la segunda obra de estudio de la banda, su disco más vendido, uno de los más ensalzados, temas eternos y clásicos como este "War Pigs" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Thin Lizzy - Roisin Dubh (Black Rose)

ROISIN  DUBH  (BLACK  ROSE) 

Para muchos uno de los albumes más icónicos de la banda irlandesa Thin Lizzy fue su noveno LP de estudio "Black Rose" publicado en 1979. Se trata de el album con el que alcanzaron su puesto más alto en las listas de ventas, el único en el que el guitarrista Gary Moore tuvo dedicación a tiempo completo con la banda, y un disco que recurrió abiertamente a ese influjo folk irlandés plasmado en alguna de las composiciones, como en el tema que dio nombre a la obra "(Black Rose) Roisin Dubh" que fue en parte un mix de canciones folclóricas irlandesas con alguna como "Danny Boy" formando parte de la misma, un tema del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Artch - Loaded

 

LOADED 

Que bueno sería que los noruegos Artch relanzasen su carrera de nuevo, (en activo se supone que están desde 2000) pero hacerlo de verdad, desde volver a componer discos, sobre todo si son de la talla de su debut de 1988 "Another Return", y es que tras su parada en 1991 y su retorno supuesto en 2000 la realidad es que la banda sigue teniendo en su haber tan solo dos LP's de estudio. Volviendo al tema del debut, menuda obra se sacaron de la manga, un heavy metal de manual, encima un concepto clásico tan tarde ya como en 1988, ese año en que las bandas renegaban de dicho concepto por la poca aceptación que el gran publico dedicaba a tal sonido, era ese momento de cambio que relegaba al heavy metal como tal a un segundo plano compositivo. La obra no tiene desperdicio, un disco lleno de grandes canciones como por ejemplo "Loaded" de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Cada vez más engrasada, la banda sueca Bloodbound, con su ya larga trayectoria a las espaldas (más de veinte años desde 2004), sabe perfectamente que dar a su público para mantener su fidelidad, y conquistar la escena power, sobre todo europower, de los que son ahora mismo uno de los más claros exponentes. Iced Earth - A Charge To Keep

 

A  CHARGE  TO  KEEP 

Iced Earth, o lo que viene a ser lo mismo, Jon Schaffer, es una de esas bandas que han contado con un buen plantel de músicos a lo largo del tiempo de actividad que ya viene extendiéndose desde 1988 en adelante, sin contar desde 2021 en que se vio el grupo afectado por el asunto de Schaffer y el asunto de la Casa Blanca estadounidense. El caso es que es una de esas bandas unidas a un nombre y a un concepto compositivo bastante fiel a lo largo de las épocas y de las formaciones. A medio camino del power y del thrash a lo largo de su carrera el grupo ha publicado catorce LP's de estudio, el octavo de ellos en 2007, "Framing Armageddon" (something wicked part I), lo que deja entrever que esta obra es parte de una saga de dos albumes. En este primero estamos ante la última obra del cantante Tim "Ripper" Owens con Iced Earth (de las dos en las que participó), un disco conceptual del que dejo hoy en el blog su canción "A charge to keep" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Nocturnal Rites - Never Again

NEVER  AGAIN 

Nocturnal Rites es un grupo sueco de los que han ido evolucionando su sonido a medida que avanzaba su carrera, de hecho comienzan su camino como una banda de death metal, en los mismos inicios de su carrera, aunque solo grabaron alguna demo en esas tesituras compositivas, luego el power metal llenaría sus obras en la época adecuada, y con la calidad de su lado. Hablamos de una carrera desarrollada sobre todo en los 90 y los 2000, y aunque siguen en activo, en casi veinte años solo un LP da fe de su continuidad (su noveno LP de estudio "Phoenix" de 2017). Parece que el "fenix" no termino de renacer y ya ocho años de silencio dan poca confianza en su continuidad real. El caso es que en 2007 publicaban su octavo LP, "The 8th sin" que ponía fin a esa primera parte de su carrera, ya algo alejados de su sonido más lustroso, prototípico, criticados por la obra, pero de ella quiero rescatar hoy la canción "Never again" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Hounds - Knightmare

 

KNIGHTMARE 

Hounds es una banda italiana que parece seguir la senda de las bandas tanto italianas como griegas por ejemplo de power de corte épico y un tanto true, sin embargo, hacer una lectura compositiva en ese sentido por ejemplo de toda su segunda obra de estudio de este 2025 "Rise of the immortals" sería un tanto injusto, ya que a medida que avanza la obra se aprecian otras influencias compositivas, la verdad es que algo indeterminadas, es dificil encasillar a esta banda en una sola etiqueta y parecen aún seguir buscando su sendero hacia el futuro. Formados en 2016 en principio con la intención de ser una banda de versiones, con la incorporación de más componentes pronto deciden intentar interpretar su propio material, así, en 2018 publican su primer material en formato EP "Hounds" al que seguiría en 2020 su primer LP "Warrior of sun". Un lustro después nos llega este mencionado "Rise of the immortals" del que quiero dejar en el blog el tema que lo abre, posiblemente el más en esa línea Power epic true tan italiana o griega, el tema lleva por título "Knightmare" y de él dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Uno de los puntos fuertes de los germanos Helloween, además de la aparente recuperación de los golpes que suelen acabar con la mayoría de bandas como la salida de miembros clave, es la de crear singles incontestables, temas se fácil asimilación, de enorme potencial de venta, de capacidad para ser coreadas en vivo, punto clave para su éxito global. Attack - Return Of The Evil

MISSING  YOU 

Vuelta a la escena germana de mitad de los ochenta para rescatar una vez más a la menospreciada banda Attack, otro de esos grupos que no han alcanzado en absoluto el reconocimiento merecido, y su carrera quizá por ello quedo diluida a una fracción de lo que podría haber llegado a ser. Siempre esgrimiendo un heavy metal clasicote, con momentos proto power cuando aún el estilo apenas despuntaba. En 1985 el grupo editaba su segundo LP, un disco que era más sólido en todo que su debut, el grupo de manera natural crecía mostrando ese potencial absoluto hacia algo grande. El segundo LP llevaba por título "return of the evil" y de él dejo hoy el tema "Missing You", un tema casi maideniano en lo guitarristico, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Stormwitch - Heart Of Ice

HEART  OF  ICE 

Los germanos Stormwitch son otro de esos grupos al que se puede unir a los pioneros de esto del heavy metal en su escena natal, un nombre siempre en un segundo plano respecto a otros más reconocidos pero que igualmente hicieron méritos para al menos cosechar un mayor reconocimiento. Formados como Stormwich en 1981 procedían ya de las cenizas de la banda Lemon Sylvan. Siempre se inclinaron un un heavy metal que dejaba asomar un tipo de composición proto power antes de que ese movimiento explotase. Siempre melódicos y veloces, en 1989 publicaban su quinto album de estudio "Eye of the storm", último con la formación inicial del grupo siendo un disco acusado de ser el menos heavy de la banda, pero que igualmente atesora grandes momentos del grupo.
