El octavo LP de estudio de los suecos Eclipse ya está a la vista, "Megalomanium" cuya salida oficial se espera para el mes de septiembre. Estamos ante una de esas bandas que han encontrado perfectamente su hueco en la escena internacional, cada vez más reconocidos, su sonido pulido, enganchón y en clave de hard rock y heavy melódico es su seña de identidad y su inercia compositiva parece encontrarse cómoda en entregar un disco cada dos años ultimamente, una gran noticia para los que disfrutamos con sus obras. OUT  OF  NOWHERE

Ya en el pasado 2022 dejaron claro a través de su debut que tenían potencial de sobra para engrosar las muchas y buenas bandas que la escena griega va dejando en la escena internacional, siendo claramente una de las escenas de moda actualmente por méritos propios. "Stray Gods" de la mano entre otros de Bob Katsionis muestra de nuevo sus intenciones en este 2023 con su segundo LP de estudio, "Olympus" que verá la luz de forma oficial el 23 de junio y que en estos días no deja su primer adelanto, "Out of nowhere" del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

INTO  THE  NIGHT

Hoy otro ejemplo de lo que decía en la anterior entrada del blog referente a la riqueza del movimiento de la NWOBHM, que dejo tal volumen de bandas poniendo su granito de arena que es relativamente sencillo encontrarse con grupos absolutamente desconocidos al tiempo que tremendamente einteresantes por su potencial. Como digo otro buen ejemplo fueron "Ritual", también con un nombre bastante recurrente para muchas bandas que lo escogieron como estandarte, estos para crear ese heavy metal de características clásicas en el momento en que ese sonido era tendencia y más auténtico que nunca. Se forman en 1973 pero hasta una década más tarde no editan su primer material de estudio. después otro parón de 10 años para editar en 1993 su segundo y último LP antes de dejarlo. Hoy dejo en el blog uno de los temas del citado debut "Widow" de 1983, en concreto "Into the night" incluido con posterioridad como tema desechado, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Legend - Warrior

 

WARRIOR

De nuevo un vistazo a la interminable escena británica de los primeros ochenta que termino por dar el nombre global de NWOBHM tan nombrado, conocido y fundamental, y en esta ocasión para rescatar a otra banda desconocida y que encarnaba bien muchos de esos principios compositivos comunes a las bandas que en se englobaban bajo esas siglas. Se trata de Legend, una de las muchas bandas que escogieron ese nombre para intentarlo. Estos se forman en 1980 y son de esos grupos que lo han intentado en dos periodos diferenciados, uno desde 1980 hasta 1984 y otro desde 2002 hasta 2013, en que al igual que muchas otras bandas el grupo trató de relanzar su carrera, igualmente con poca respuesta de cara al gran público. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de su segundo LP de estudio, "Death in the nursery" de 1982, concretamente "Warrior" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Una nueva banda más de reciente formación, "Wings of steel" desde Estados Unidos. Formados en 2019, el pasado 2022 editaron su primer material de estudio en formato EP, para en este 2023 editar su primer LP "Gates of twilight" que vio la luz de ofrma ofcial la pasada semana. Estamos ante una banda que claramente bebe del concepto clásico, aunque orientandolo al hard 'n heavy, se les nota ese ramalazo hard rockero, pero como digo sin dejar de lado la vertiente heavy. De momento sin apoyo discográfico dan buena muestra de su potente propuesta a traves de temas comom este "Leather and lace" del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Knight & Gallow - Blood Of Wolves

 

BLOOD  OF  WOLVES

Hoy de nuevo echaremos un vistazo al concepto de la old School pero actualizado, es decir, otra de esas bandas que han fijado su mirada en el concepto clásico pero que son jovenes bandas de nueva formación, en este caso "Knight & Gallow" de la escuela americana. Y con eso lo decimos todo, ese concepto estadounidense que evoca un poco a los Manilla Road y compañía, con esa vocación épica, esa producción que huye del sonido perfectamente empaquetado para fijarse en el sentimiento que transmitían las bandas de los ochenta. Knight & Gallow se forman en 2019 para editar su primer trabajo en el pasado 2022, que hasta la fecha de esta reseña es su único LP y que lleva por título "For honor and bloodshed", y del que hoy quiero dejar una de sus canciones en el blog, en concreto "Blood of wolves" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gauntlet Rule - By The Gods Who Are Not

 

BY  THE  GODS  WHO  ARE  NOT

Otro grupo de nueva formación, (2019), que ha decidido fijarse en el concepto clásico para desarrollar su sonido. Es esta ocasión me refiero a Gauntlet Rule, desde Suecia. Como digo, sus influencias son claramente de la vieja escuela, nada de adornos innecesarios, temas bastante directos en clave de heavy metal, desde la estética, pasando por la temática, podrían haber formado parte de las muchas bandas ochenteras que desarrollaron el sonido original aquí revivido. En el pasado 2022 editaron su primer LP de estudio, "The plague court", que sin ser tampoco nada que vaya a crear una era, si que será del agrado de los metalheads que gusten del sonido de la old school. De este primer y a fecha de esta reseña único trabajo dejo hoy en el blog uno de sus temas que más me han llamado la atención, "By the gods who are not", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Rage - Before The Storm (The Secret Affair)

 

BEFORE  THE  STORM  (THE  SECRET  AFFAIR)

Miremos a los inicios de una de las bandas con mayúsculas hoy en día, a uno de esos grupos unidos sobre todo a un nombre, y a uno de esos que son prolíficos en lo compositivo, constantes y longevos, lo que da para mucho en una carrera musical, hablamos de los germanos "Rage", y de su primera parte de carrera, la que ocupa parte de la década de los ochenta, (así de longevos son). Para 1987, Rage ya había editado dos LP's de estudio bajo ese nombre, que adoptaron en 1986, es necesario recordar su anterior etapa bajo el nombre de Avenger entre 1983 y 1986. Cuando adoptan ese nuevo nombre dejan un poco de lado el concepto puro de heavy metal clásico, para incluir otro tipo de conceptos compositivos que comenzaban a aflorar en la mitad de los ochenta, así el proto power y el thrash metal entran a formar parte de sus utensilios compositivos tratando el grupo de buscar su propio sonido sin encasillarse en un solo tipo, siendo ese arriesgado concepto a medio camino de muchas cosas, que puede salir bien y gustar a muchos o mal y no gustar a nadie, pero a Wagner y los suyos siempre les acompañó un as en la manga, por supuesto hablamos de la innegable calidad. Su debut como Rage de 1986 "Reign of fear" quizá no funcionó tan bien como esperaban, y en su segundo intento, en 1987, este "Execution Guaranteed" mostraba un pelín más de rabia, quizá de contundencia y evidenciaba el camino que la banda emprendería en los años siguientes que serían los de su progresivo reconocimiento. THE  THUNDERER

Un nuevo caso demostrativo del excelente estado de forma de la escena griega en lo metálico, y es que se llevan haciendo muchos años las cosas bien es esas tierras, y los frutos se recogen a medio o largo plazo, y en Grecia están en plena cosecha de lo sembrado. La nueva banda se llama "Triumpher", formada en 2019, y que en este 2023 ha visto como se publicaba su primer LP de estudio, "Storming the walls" título que parece mostrar sus intenciones compositivas, pues estamos ante una propuesta basada en un sonido clásico de heavy metal pero enriquecida con otros elementos que dan un resultado ameno y divertido. No encontramos músicos de renombre en la formación, parece todo salido de la cantera misma, y en este primer esfuerzo compositivo encontramos temazos como este "The Thuderer" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog un enlace a youtube. La griega, una de las escenas más envidiables del momento.

Canciones para una vida - Dragonhammer - Into The Warrior's Mind

 

INTO  THE  WARRIOR'S  MIND

Los italianos Dragonhammer editaron el pasado 2022 su quinto LP de estudio, un disco que quizá haya sacado lo mejor de si mismos hasta la fecha, y la verdad es que la banda ya tiene una larga trayectoria a sus espaldas aunque en realidad no hayan llegado realmente a despuntar a nivel internacional, en parte por el estilo escogido, que se mantiene bastante fiel al que se hacía en su momento de nacer como banda, a comienzos del presente siglo. Además, su nacionalidad en este aspecto les hizo diluirse en la inmensa cantidad de bandas que surgen al calor del éxito de Rhapsody, una influencia reconocida para Dragonhammer. Siempre ha defendido la banda su gusto por hacer un power metal clásico, del de los citados años iniciales de su andadura como banda, pero por uno u otro motivo no han dado el salto a la primera línea internacional. Quizá haya contribuido haber editado solo cinco LP's en más de dos décadas. Para esta nueva obra parecen evolucionar hacia un sonido más sinfónico, siempre fieles a su idea, y por ejemplo en el tema que dejo hoy en el blog la influencia "Rhapsody" es innegable, la canción es "Into the warrior's mind" y de ella dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Ya han pasado unos cuantos años desde que los estadounidenses Virgin Steele sacasen su último LP de estudio, concretamente desde 2015, y en este 2023 editaran el que será ya su décimo quinto LP, que llevará por título "The passion of Dionysus" y que verá la luz de forma oficial el 30 de junio. En estos días nos han dejado su primer adelanto con la canción "Spiritual Warfare", absolutamente reconocible, lo que augura un disco que sigue su propia senda como banda para alegría de sus fans. Canciones para una vida - Rhapsody Of Fire - Kreel's Magic Staff

 

KREEL'S  MAGIC  STAFF

Los italianos Rhapsody, o lo que de ellos queda con respecto a la formación original, es decir Alex Staropoli, siguen con paso firme adelante, demostrando cada vez de manera más firme que las ausencias destacadas de nombres como Turilli o Lione está mucho más que superada, no obstante ya he defendido en este blog en más de una ocasión el trabajo de estos "otros" Rhapsody, que a mi entender a retomado una senda que habían llegado a perder, sobre todo en los últimos tiempos de Turilli, y que sin duda Staropoli ha reconducido a orillas que jamas deberían haber abandonado. En este 2023, la banda muestra el primero de los adelantos del que será su nuevo album de estudio del que aún desconozco los detalles. THE  IDOL

Una carrera como la de los estadounidenses W.A.S.P. no necesita de presentación alguna, con unos argumentos compositivos que son su carta principal de presentación, que ha brillado a una enorme altura a lo largo y ancho de más de cuatro décadas diferentes, a lo que hay que añadir el ingrediente de la polémica sobre todo en sus inicios, con esa imagen "gore" casi satánica, que después cambiaría el enfoque pero nada más, la banda se ha sabido hacer un hueco en la historia del heavy metal sin duda alguna por méritos propios. En 2017, su quinto LP de estudio "The crimson Idol", de 1992, cumplia nada menos que 25 años y fue objeto de repaso por parte de la banda, con una versión corregida y aumentada de una obra de esas magníficas tanto dentro de la discografía del grupo como de la historia metálica en general. Siempre es un gustazo repasar obras como esta, y si hace mucho que uno no la escucha termina por sentir eso mismo que sintió en sus primeras escuchas, recordando la magnitud de lo que tenemos entre manos. Canciones para una vida - Civil War - Custer's Last Stand

 

CUSTER'S  LAST  STAND

Finalmente la escisión de la banda Sabaton, dio lugar a la formación de Civil War, una fuga de miembros casi masiva que sin embargo, y con solo una excepción, ha encontrado la estabilidad en este refugio compositivo llamado Civil War que ya se alarga por más de una década y que en su última obra parecen incluso crecer, también con la incorporación del nuevo cantante Kelly Sundown, que para mí le da un plus, lo que unido al espectacular acierto compositivo general de la obra, muestra ese nivel ascendente al que me refiero, veremos en el futuro cual será el sendero del grupo o hasta donde les llevará. Tactical blunder, it makes one wonder,

The government wanted sone land that was called the 

Black Hills Breaking Indian treaties should give everyone the chills,

 Let's take all the land, the chain of command.

His remains were taken back, to West Point cemetary.

Otro de los temas que forman parte del noveno album de los suecos "Narnia", con casi tres décadas de historia a sus espaldas como banda siempre destacaron en mi opinión por la calidad y el buen hacer, siempre a medio camino del power metal europeo y el heavy metal con reminiscencias neo clásicas, siempre elegantes, siempre efectivos, y creo que no suficientemente reconocidos, ellos han seguido a lo suyo, y en esta ocasión no iba a ser diferente, reconocibles 100%, "Ghost town" no decepcionará a sus fieles y sorprenderá a los que no sepan de la banda. FUTURE  TIMES

La verdad es que este grupo alemán siempre me ha parecido como mínimo muy interesante, y cuando me enteré de que ene ste 2023 editaban nuevo material de estudio me alegró mucho, sobre todo porque ya desde 2016 no editaban nada nuevo y me temía que fuese a ser una banda más que quedaba en el camino, a mi entender, sin el reconocimiento necesario, pero bueno, al menos le van a dar un intento más, y a juzgar por los dos adelantos que nos han dejado de la obra "Everfrost", su quinta, que verá la luz oficialmente en julio, están en la misma onda de siempre y con toda la energía, esperemos que sigan mucho tiempo por esa senda. Canciones para una vida - Jag Panzer - Onward We Toil

 

ONWARD  WE  TOIL

Otra banda más de esas que tienen en su haber momentos importantes en lo histórico con algún album reconocido como de culto para muchos y que sin duda son parte viva de la citada historia metálica, son los estadounidenses Jag Panzer, otra banda más que en un momento concreto decidieron cesar en su actividad, (1988, 1993 reunión, y 2011) para regresar después hasta el momento actual, en que en este 2023 han editado su duodécimo LP de estudio, el segundo tras su segundo regreso. En realidad si atendemos a lo extenso de su historia personal, (desde 1981) se antoja algo escasa su discografía, aunque si suplimos la cantidad con calidad al final es muy posible que el balance sea históricamente mejor.  "The Hallowed" muestra sus primeras pinceladas en este 2023 a través de dos singles, uno de ellos este "Onward we toil" del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

THE  LAST  GENERATION

Vamos hoy con una de esas bandas eternas, de las que empezaron con el propio sonido heavy metal como tal, los germanos "Sinner", y concretamente con su último trabajo publicado de estudio, "Brotherhood" del pasado 2022, el que hace ya vigésimo LP de estudio desde aquel "Wild n' evil" de 1982, como decía al inicio, toda una institución, y siempre he tenido esa sensación de que no se le ha dado al grupo la importancia que sin duda merecen. Su sonido ha ido adaptandose a las diferentes décadas de existencia que desde luego ya son una cuantas, y ahora tienen un cierto aire moderno, pero siempre apoyados en el heavy metal clasicote que ayudaron a crecer en primera persona. "Holy flaming hammer of unholy cosmic frost", aunque pueda parecer la letra completa de la canción, solo es el título del segundo adelanto del nuevo disco de los escoceses "Gloryhammer" para primeros del mes que viene, y es que la banda ya nos tiene acostumbrados a ese concepto a medio camino entre la teatralidad y el esperpento en lo que a líricas e imagen se refiere, todo ello envuelto en un lustroso power metal de corte europeo, y tendencia sinfónica y melódica, algo que parece perpetuarse en esta nueva obra en la que el cmbio de vocalista no será en absoluto una escusa para que sus seguidores les puedan dar la espalda. THE  HOUNDS  OF  BASKERVILLE

Segundo LP de los australianos "Night Legion" cuya salida de forma oficial se espera para el próximo mes de junio. Ya en su debut demostraron muy buenas formas, y parece a traves de este primer adelanto, "The Hounds of Baskerville" que al menos continuan en la misma línea de calidad y compositiva. Power metal que bebe de ambos lados del charco, momentos de influecia americana y pinceladas melódicas del europower en buen equilibrio, aunque quizá termine pesando más el influjo yankee.
