Canciones para una vida - Solar Fragment - Inside The Circle

INSIDE  THE  CIRCLE

En innumerables ocasiones he querido remarcar en el blog como muchas, muchísimas veces, calidad y reconocimiento y/o ventas no tienen porque ir de la mano, siendo en muchas ocasiones incluso inversamente proporcionales ambos conceptos, por lo cual una sana curiosidad por seguir descubriendo nuevas bandas o no tan nuevas es siempre, en mi humilde opinión, una gran idea para descubrir bandas de calidad. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de esos grupos que no han alcanzado los primeros puestos en las listas de ventas, por falta más de repercusión que de evidente calidad a poco que uno se pone con ellas. El de hoy es el grupo alemán "Solar Fragment", una banda de power metal con una ya larga trayectoria a sus espaldas que se ha traducido sin embargo en una corta producción musical, eso si, llena de impresionantes pinceladas de calidad. Solar Fragment se forma en 2004 y siguiendo en activo a día de hoy, teniendo solo dos LP's, a fecha de esta reseña, editados además de un EP de 2015 "From our hands" donde retoman tres temas de su segundo LP "In our hands" de 2011 desde una perspectiva acústica. Su primer larga duración "A spark of deity" se remonta a 2007. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de su segundo LP, "In Our Hands", concretamente uno en el que han contado con la colaboración de Hansi Kursch de Blind Guardian a la voz, motivo más que suficiente en si mismo para despertar la curiosidad de cualquier metalhead que se precie, pero es que además la calidad compositiva en clave de power europeo que se marcan en el tema y toda la obra debería haberles ofrecido una mayor repercusión. En fin, otra banda más para descubrir, hoy a través de este "Inside the circle" de 2011. esperemos que pronto editen algo de material nuevo. Dejo un enlace a youtube de este "Inside the circle".

Canciones para una vida - Crom - All Alone

ALL  ALONE

Otra de las canciones del tercer álbum de estudio de la banda alemana de power-viking metal Crom. Sin duda, y como ya he dicho en otras referencias a esta obra, una vuelta al sendero correcto en lo compositivo, en lo que sin duda es un paso adelante en la carrera de esta banda casi de un solo hombre, Walter "Crom" Grosse, quien recientemente, (el 16 de febrero de 2018) ha sacado una nueva edición de este "When Northmen die" en doble vinilo y con dos bonus track extra, "A world without heroes" y "Hunting high and low". Canciones para una vida - Axel Rudi Pell - Long Live Rock

LONG  LIVE  ROCK

Abordar un disco nuevo de Axel Rudi Pell es acercarse a algo nuevo pero al mismo tiempo conocido, ya que lo predecible de lo que uno va a encontrarse es mucho más que perdonable, primero por la calidad innegable de la banda, (sobre todo por el peso específico de Axel), y segundo porque a pesar de repetirse un mismo esquema disco tras disco este tío tiene la virtud de que de hecho desees que su obra suene a lo que suena, a estas alturas lo que nos resultaría raro es otra cosa. Sea como fuere, el décimo octavo disco de estudio de la banda ya está aquí, con Pell a la guitarra y composición y Gioeli a la voz, además del resto de la banda con la incorporación de bajista nuevo, Volker Krawczak, que ya coincidiera con Axel en sus tiempo de Steeler. Al final la estabilidad del grupo contribuye sin duda al éxito que mantienen con los años a pesar de su reticencia al cambio, o quizá gracias a ella. Canciones para una vida - Amorgen - March To The Grave

MARCH  TO  THE  GRAVE

Amorgen es otra de esas prometedoras bandas que parece quedan en nada a las primeras de cambio. Estos holandeses forman en 2010 y su corto periplo musical terminó el año pasado con su separación definitiva, una auténtica lástima porque nos han dejado tan solo en ese tiempo un EP de 2011, "Awake the iron" con siete temas. Parece ser que dejaron a medias su primer LP, allá por 2013 pero por motivos sin especificar la banda deja su actividad. Su sonido es un death melódico con tintes folk de buena calidad y más que decente producción a pesar de editar este su único trabajo de manera independiente. Parece que la idea de la banda era hacer obras conceptuales, basadas en un mundo creado por ellos con nombres y situaciones fantásticos y un buen hacer musical que queda patente en lo poco que nos dejaron editado. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas de su obra "Awake the iron", como digo de 2011, en concreto este "March to the grave" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Brothers Of Metal - Gods Of War

GODS  OF  WAR

 Otra de las muchas canciones destacables de esta magnífica primera obra de los suecos "Brothers of Metal" y posiblemente la mejor de todas las que componen este primer álbum puede ser este "Gods Of War", con todos los elementos que caracterizan el sonido de un grupo, que salvo alguna cosa rara está destinado a dar mucho que hablar en el futuro. La verdad es que Brothers of Metal les va que ni pintado como nombre, con una temática muy épica y en su primera obra viquinga y una formación con más miembros de lo habitual, dos cantantes, (masculino y femenina), tres guitarristas, bajista, batería y hasta narrador. El grupo se forma en 2012 editándose este primer y, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, único LP, editado de forma digital en abril de 2017 y en CD físico en noviembre de ese mismo año. Canciones para una vida - Terra Atlantica - The Avenging Narwhal

THE  AVENGING  NARWHAL

Terra Atlantica es una banda alemana bastante nueva, cuyo sonido podríamos acotar en un power metal de corte europeo, con preponderancia de melodías y un aire compositivo clásico dentro del género. Poca información encontramos aún sobre ellos, pero su primer LP y único hasta la fecha de esta reseña nos enseña un buen nivel. En esta primera obra flirtean mucho con la temática marítima, en letras y ambientación, sin llegar a tener una intención clara hacia lo pirata si que en ocasiones su sonido deja "ramalazos" a lo Alestorm, sin ese componente folk pero con un gran gusto compositivo. Formados en 2014 ha sido el pasado 2017 cuando han editado este "A city once divine" del que hoy quiero dejar una canción en el blog, en concreto "The avenging narwhal" con artista invitado y todo, Mikael Holst, de "Timeless Miracle", una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. En definitiva, los amantes del power europeo estamos ante el nacimiento de otra banda más, veremos hasta donde llega su aventura.

Canciones para una vida - Amorphis - The Bee

THE  BEE


Ya tenemos aquí el primer single de adelanto del que será el décimo tercer disco de estudio "Queen of time", de la banda finlandesa Amorphis, que verá de forma oficial la luz este próximo 18 de Mayo de 2018. Para la ocasión la banda, y a tenor de lo escuchado en este primer adelanto, "The Bee", mantiene el concepto musical que viene realizando en sus últimas producciones, contundencia y melodía a partes iguales en una exquisita producción ya marca de la casa. Así pues, si te gustan las anteriores obras de este grupazo estas de enhorabuena, al menos en lo que al adelanto se refiere porque encontraras más de lo mismo. Para esta obra, además regresa el bajista que lo fuese durante la primera parte de la historia de la banda, Olli-Pekka Laine, pudiendo apreciarse sin duda que lo de la estabilidad dentro de este grupo es algo digno de mención, pues todos los miembros llevan juntos entre 20 y casi 30 años tocando juntos, mención aparte del cantante Tomi Joutsen que se une a Amorphis en 2005, pero que ha sido clave para el sonido actual de la banda, mucho más "para todos los públicos". En definitiva, en esto de la música, como en tantas otras cosas casi nada es porque sí, la prueba, por ejemplo Amorphis. Canciones para una vida - Amon Amarth - The Last Stand Of Frej

THE  LAST  STAND  OF  FREJ

Otro de los temas destacables de la octava obra de los suecos "Amon Amarth" es este "The last Stand of Frej". Evidentemente dependiendo de la época en la que te hayas enganchado al grupo sueco el sonido en que haya ido derivando la propuesta viquinga de estos chicos te hará más o menos gracia pues de lo que no hay duda es de que ha sufrido una clara evolución que irá haciendo las delicias de los amantes de un death más melódico, menos crudo y menos "thrassy" que practicaban al inicio de su carrera. De lo que no hay duda alguna es de la calidad que atesoran, del reconocimiento que han alcanzado a lo largo y ancho del planeta metálico y de las hordas de seguidores que se van alimentando, obra tras obra de la propuesta de Amon Amarth. Desde luego esta octava obra "Surtur Rising" de 2011 ha contribuido a ese aumento de fans, y de ella hoy quiero dejar en el blog este "The last stand of Frej", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Iron Savior - Iron Savior

IRON  SAVIOR

Hace ya bastante tiempo, (demasiado dada la envergadura de la obra a abordar) que dejé en el blog una entrada referente al disco debut de los alemanes Iron Savior, y hoy toca rescatar otro de los muchos temas impecables que adornan dicha obra. Como ya he dicho y muchos sabrán, Iron Savior nace con vocación de proyecto paralelo de las mentes de Piet Sielk, que hasta ese instante se dedicaba con gran acierto a labores de técnico de sonido, y Kai Hansen, (sobra toda presentación). Ambos habían coincidido en la semilla de Helloween, ("Gentry"), allá por el paleolítico del power metal. Pues bien, tras decidir darse la ocasión de crear un álbum allá por 1996 deciden unir a su proyecto nada menos que al batería de Blind Guardian Thomen Stautch, creando por fin "Iron Savior", un proyecto que por peso específico y aclamación popular, por méritos propios termino derivando en una banda a tiempo completo para Sielk. Habiendo escuchado la discografía de la banda es evidente lo merecido de su buena reputación, pero en concreto este debut "Iron Savior" de 1997 es una de esas obras que no tienen una sola nota fuera de lugar, y hoy quiero poner otro ejemplo más, este tema homónimo al nombre de la banda, "Iron Savior", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Megadeth - In My Darkest Hour

IN  MY  DARKEST  HOUR

Megadeth es una de esas bandas que igualmente que en tantos otros casos, cosechan tantas criticas negativas como positivas, y no debemos olvidar que es uno de esos considerados como los cuatro grandes del Thrash, pero en lo que la mayoría de la gente esta de acuerdo es que esta tercera obra de estudio, "So far, so good ... so what", de 1988, es la más floja, en su conjunto, de los inicios de la banda. El sonido aquí puede verse más influido por el concepto punk, y si a eso unimos algunos tintes progresivos, con un cierto alargamiento de los temas, encontramos argumentos suficientes para que algunos "metalheads" hayan dado tradicionalmente la espalda a esta obra. Sin embargo siempre se puede destacar alguna cosa cuando hablamos de calidad, y desde luego la carrera extensa de la banda, y obras antológicas del grupo no dejan lugar a dudas de su buen hacer. Hoy quiero romper un lanza pues por esta obra de megadeth, destacando uno de los temas que más me gustan de ella, "In my darkest hour", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Iron Maiden - The Clairvoyant

THE  CLAIRVOYANT

The clairvoyant es otro de los grandes temas de este álbum de Iron Maiden "Seventh son of a seventh son", de 1988, séptima ya obra de la banda y en un periodo del grupo en que muchos ya ven su decadencia, algo que yo jamás me he atrevido a decir, en general, de ninguna de las épocas de una de las bandas más grandes metálicas absolutamente por derecho propio. Es evidente que el grupo venía evolucionando, si se quiere experimentando, pero aún mantenía la esencia de sus inicios, y la prueba es que los años van siempre poniendo en su sitio las cosas y este álbum continua teniendo un enorme tirón. Igualmente, como sucede con las grandes bandas, y particularmente con Iron Maiden todo el mundo parece tener una opinión cierta, en un sentido o en el contrario, siempre todo es blanco o negro y es así por lo grande que es el grupo y lo que siempre ha significado para el heavy metal. Yo no quiero entrar en lo bueno o malo que es la obra, esta en concreto o toda su carrera, simplemente dejo en el blog otro tema más de esta banda que ninguna presentación necesita, otra canción destacable de las muchas que su discografía atesora, en esta ocasión "The clairvoyant" porque siempre el sonido de una canción es su mejor argumento. Canciones para una vida - Manowar - Heart Of Steel

HEART  OF  STEEL

Sin duda este sexto disco de los estadounidenses Manowar es una de esas obras fundamentales de la banda, uno de esos discos reconocidos y reconocibles del grupo y del propio heavy metal en sí, "Kings of metal", de 1988, y lo es por méritos propios y merecidamente por lo que significa como obra en conjunto. Ya he hablado de este disco en el blog en alguna ocasión y hoy quiero rescatar otro de sus temas, en esta ocasión la balada icónica de la obra, una de esas "baladas heavys" que no puede faltar en un recopilatorio típico de baladas, y una de esas canciones que por más que uno "trilla" no deja de transmitirle las mismas sensaciones que le dejó desde la primera escucha, tanto tiempo atrás. Se trata por supuesto de "Heart of Steel", baladita, si, pero con toda la fuerza de Manowar de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. En una palabra, épico.

Canciones para una vida - Saxon - Nosferatu (The Vampires Waltz)

NOSFERATU  (THE  VAMPIRES  WALTZ)

Se dice pronto, pero el vigesimo tercer larga duración de Saxon ya está aquí, "Thunderbolt", salido a la venta este pasado 2 de febrero. Realmente poco más hay que decir, un grupo como este se ha ganado su estatus aunque solo sea por la persistencia y constancia a lo largo de cuatro décadas. Influjo para innumerables bandas y generaciones de músicos siempre fueron considerados como los hermanos menos talentosos de la familia de clásicos británicos que alimentaron el movimiento de la NWOBHM, sin embrago, o quizás por eso mismo han sido de los más constantes, estables y prolíficos, y eso mismo habla también de los que es esta obra nueva. Sin duda no será el disco del año, como casi nunca en la carrera de Saxon, atraerá críticas no demasiado buenas perpetuando su leyenda de "hermano pobre" de los grandes, pero, en definitiva ellos seguirán a lo suyo. Este "Thunderbolt" pues es un capitulo más en la historia de la banda, con sus cosas buenas y malas, Saxon 100% con sus luces y sombras, ni el mejor ni el peor de sus discos pero con detalles destacables seguro, aunque nada más sea porque se conocen de memoria a ellos mismos y a este negocio del heavy metal. Canciones para una vida - Blacksmith - Gipsy Queen

GIPSY  QUEEN

 Varias son las bandas que lo intentaron bajo el nombre de "Blacksmith", muchas de ellas sin llegar a tener una carrera demasiado reseñable, otras que apenas llegaron a despuntar pero dejaron pinceladas de un potencial que es una pena que no llegase a desarrollarse totalmente. Hoy quiero hablar de una de esas bandas, los Blacksmith suecos, un interesante grupo, uno de tantos de aquellos años que por motivos seguramente ajenos a su música en concreto o la calidad no llegaron a cuajar quedándose en una carrera incipiente con tan solo un EP editado. En realidad después y por la presión del publico sobre todo japones la banda tuvo un renacimiento con un segundo intento por parte del vocalista que juntando un nuevo "line up" edito un único LP en 1999, "Once upon a star". Pero hoy quiero centrarme en su primer material, su EP "Gipsy Queen" de 1985, un maxi single de cuatro temas donde como digo mostraban un más que interesante potencial que después no tendría continuidad. Con un estilo personal, que en lo vocal incluso me trae reminiscencias del primer material de por ejemplo Queensryche, nos encontramos ante un heavy metal de corte melódico y clásico, valga para ilustrar lo que digo este "Gipsy Queen" que da nombre a la obra y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Warrant - The Enforcer

THE  ENFORCER

Desde luego que 1985 fue uno de esos años espectaculares en lo que al heavy metal se refiere, una de esas fechas a las que uno puede y debe recurrir cuando se trata de recordar momentos musicales épicos, seguir descubriendo incluso hoy bandas, discos o canciones que injustamente no llegaron a despuntar y en general para entender más globalmente nuestra música. Hoy quiero recuperar una vez más de esos años a otra de esas bandas, se trata de los alemanes "Warrant", no confundir con la banda de hard rock, estos centraban su sonido en un contundente heavy speed metal de primer nivelazo a pesar de su desconocimiento general para el gran público. Realmente la banda tuvo poco recorrido ya que formados en 1983 cesan en su actividad en 1985, tras la salida de su primer LP "The Enforcer". Posteriormente retomarían su carrera en 1999, supuestamente hasta hoy con el único fruto de momento, a fecha de esta reseña, de un segundo larga duración en 2014. Volviendo a lo que nos ocupa, su disco debut, encontramos, como decía más arriba un speed metal, heavy clásico de muchos quiilates, un poco enmarcado en el sonido de bandas como Venom o Angel Dust si se quiere, con regusto clásico pero al tiempo apuntandose a lo que sonaría de ahí en adelante en una única obra muy recomendable que como pero solo tiene una cierta monotonía en cuanto a variedad de los temas, algo por otra parte perdonable, claro, porque hay calidad. Canciones para una vida - Battle Tales - The Battle Bard

THE  BATTLE  BARD

Primer trabajo de la banda suiza "Battle Tales", un grupo formado en 2013 y del que poca o ninguna información se encuentra aún en la red. En una clave de folk power metal su sonido puede traer reminiscencias de alguna otra banda, así gustan de utilizar flautas y otros elementos folk, con un regusto un poco "Elvenking" en ocasiones, aunque alejado en general de ese sonido, o también recordándome a otra banda italiana como "Spellblast" aunque en una clave más power, menos heavy metal, menos cruda, con más arreglos. Como es evidente no han inventado nada nuevo, y tampoco creo que vaya a ser el grupo revelación de este año, sin embargo si merece la pena darse un paseo por este primer LP, "The Ire Of the condemned" del presente 2018 para descubrir el potencial que si parecen atesorar, como por ejemplo en el tema que dejo de ellos hoy en el blog, "The battle bard", una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Judicator - Spiritual Treason

SPIRITUAL  TREASON

Nueva obra de los estadounidenses Judicator, "The last emperor", que verá la luz de forma oficial este próximo 30 de marzo y del que comienza a llegarnos su primer adelanto "Spiritual treason". Este grupo lleva en activo desde 2012, como ya he comentado en este blog con motivo de su anterior obra. Su influencia clásica es innegable y reconocida por la propia banda, con un regusto por el sonido particularmente de Blind Guardian que queda también patente en el sonido que ellos mismos ejecutan, más en el caso de este primer adelanto de la nueva obra en la que colabora, nada menos que el propio Hansi Kursch a la voz, un aliciente más pues. Indudablemente estamos ante una de esas nuevas bandas destinadas a dar el relevo a los clásicos del género, y la promesa de sus anteriores obras parece poco a poco confirmarse una vez más por lo que podemos oír en este "Spiritual treason" de adelanto, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Rage - Perfect Man

PERFECT  MAN

Una banda como "Rage" siempre ha dejado claro, desde muy temprano en su carrera, por donde quería desarrollar su particular y personal visión musical, una banda que con los años, (muchos), se ha hecho un nombre enorme a si misma a base de consistencia, calidad y fidelidad a si mismos. Es cierto que a medida que la carrera del grupo iba avanzando su sonido ha ido perfilandose más hacia el power que hacia el speed casi thrash de los inicios, y también está el hecho, ya comentado en este blog, de la salida algunos miembros, y los paréntesis de otros, en por ejemplo "experimentos más sinfónicos", aunque al final, cuando la música está hecha bajo el nombre de "Rage" uno sabe que al menos algo va a "Rascar". Hoy quiero mirar atrás en su carrera, a la parte inicial de la misma para referirme a su tercera obra de estudio, "Perfect man", de 1988, una obra que para muchos es la de mayor inspiración de la banda, algo realmente difícil de decir en una banda que se va ya más allá de los 20 discos de estudio. Lo que es innegable del disco que hoy nos ocupa es la garra, la calidad, y la reconocida importancia que ha tenido en la escena internacional. Muchos son los temas recomendables de dicha obra, siendo una de esas que uno debe tener presente siempre a la hora de repasar lo grande de la historia metálica. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog el tema que da nombre a la obra, "Perfect man" y habrá en el futuro que regresar al disco para sin duda rescatar alguno más. Canciones para una vida - Running Wild - Port Royal

PORT  ROYAL

Segunda ocasión en la que vuelvo a esta obra de los alemanes Running Wild, "Port Royal" de 1988, uno de esos discos a los que les sobra calidad, uno de esos en los que casi con los ojos cerrados puedes señalar en su tracklist un temazo sin miedo a equivocarte, uno de esos imponentes discos nacidos para pasar a la historia, influyente, clásico, potente aún hoy, una lección de como hacer las cosas en uno de los mejores momentos de la banda, un grupo del que siempre (aún hoy), me he considerado fan absoluto, como ya sabrá todo asiduo lector de este blog. Pues bien, en esta ocasión que mejor que rescatar el tema que da nombre a la obra, "Port Royal", que además abre el disco para no dejar duda alguna de por donde van los tiros, un gran resumen de lo que va la obra y del porque de la grandeza de los corsaros metálicos por excelencia.
