THE WAR DRAGS EVER ON
Tank es una banda bien conocida dentro del heavy metal, uno de esos grupos fundamentales para entender el movimiento de la NWOBHM, y con el al propio Heavy Metal como estilo en general. Estos británicos comenzaron con excelente pie para poco a poco ir diluyendo esas expectativas de llegar a ser de los más grandes que despertaron en su debut por una realidad demasiado condicionada por idas y venidas o problemas internos que hizo que se separaran demasiado prematuramente como para tener la opción de dar los pasos necesarios hacia la cima. Ni que decir tiene que en ningún momento la calidad musical ha tenido nada nunca que ver con que no sean considerados a la altura de las grandísimas bandas, pues su material es muy bueno. El grupo de forma en 1980, en Inglaterra, como digo con el boom de la NWOBHM, cuando todos los grupos británicos parecían crecer con la lluvia británica. Comienzan pisando fuerte editando dos obras en 1982, con su magnifico "Filth hounds of hades", editado en marzo, y "Power of the hunter", editado en agosto, ya podían aprende muchos que están lustros sin editar nada entre obra y obra. No contentos con eso, en 1983 y 1984 editan también, así en apenas cuatro años desde su formación tenían ya 4 albumes, pero los problemas comenzaban en el grupo, y la eterna promesa del potencial de su debut parecía no ser del todo respondida. En 1987 editan su quinto LP que marca el final de la primera parte de su historia. La banda se separa en 1989. En 1997, resucitan el nombre de la banda, comenzando a tocar shows en vivo, y terminarán editando el sexto álbum de Tank en 2002, "Still at war", que sería la última obra de los Tank "clásicos" por así decir. A partir de ese momento la disparidad de criterios entre miembros ha hecho que el nombre de la banda está en disputa, habiendo actualmente dos "facciones" de la banda con el mismo nombre editando música, los Tank de Algy Ward cantante y bajista en la alineación clásica, que ha editado un LP en 2013 y otro que saldrá este 2016, y los Tank de Tucker y Evans, guitarristas en la formación original aunque ninguno de ellos fundadores de la banda, cosa que si que fue Algy Ward. Los Tank de Tucker y Evans han editado como Tank tres LP's, 2010, 2012 y 2015, habiendo sabido rodearse de buenos cantantes como Doogie White en sus dos primeras obras o ZP Theart (ex de Dragonforce) en la última de 2015. En definitiva, otro culebrón más "made in Heavy Metal". Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema del cuarto LP de los Tank originales, de título "Honour and blood", de 1984, en concreto el tema "The war drags ever on", una canción con muchos matices guitarreros que siempre me ha encantado y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Volveré a Tank más adelante, aunque solo sea para referirme a su gran debut.
