FEEL  THE  FIRE

Se aproxima la fecha de publicación del nuevo trabajo de Riot, ahora Riot V, "Mean streets" cuya fecha oficial de publicación es el 12 de abril. La banda parece ir creciendose, y a pesar de que la ausencia de Mark Reale desde 2012 se tiene por fuerza que notar, el grupo parece haber encontrado su senda y la siguen con pasos quiza demasiado espaciados, (no sacaban obra nueva desde 2018), pero firmes. Otro de los adelantos del nuevo disco ha sido "Feel the fire" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Freedom Call - The M.E.T.A.L. Fest

THE   M.E.T.A.L.  FEST

Desde 2019 se antoja ya un tiempo largo para no tener un LP de estudio de la banda alemana Freedom Call, desde entonces nos hemos tenido que conformar con un single en 2023 de un tema nuevo grabado en estudio añadido a un disco en vivo, las bandas desde luego utilizan todos sus trucos para vender y es lógico por otra parte, pero siegue antojándose un tiempo demasiado largo entre discos para una banda como Freedom Call. Canciones para una vida - Alestorm - Voyage Of The Dead Marauder

VOYAGE  OF  THE  DEAD  MARAUDER

Siguiendo con la tradición actual de las bandas punteras, los escoceses Alestorm tratan de mantenerse visibles entre obra y obra a través de un EP, que actualmente suele ser un recurso de un par de temas nuevos a los que sumar alguna versión propia o ajena con la intención de que su nombre no se diluya en el océano de grupos que asolan la escena internacional intentándose hacer un hueco en su saturado firmamento. Este es el caso de "Voyage of the dead marauder", tres temas nuevos y dos versiones ajenas para dar forma a un EP de cinco temas que verá la luz de forma oficial el 22 de marzo. Dejo hoy la canción que da nombre a la obra en la que participa la recurrente Patty Gurdy que va haciendose un nombre en la escena a través de sus colaboraciones con bandas de primer nivel, en esta ocasión Alestorm, después de comenzar haciendo versiones con su Hurdy Gurdy en youtube de bandas metálicas y de rock, una demostración más de que quien la sigue la consigue y de que las herramientas a disposición de las bandas y músicos abren caminos impensables hace unas décadas, lo cual es genial para todo amante de la música. Canciones para una vida - Snakebyte - She's A Witch

SHE'S  A  WITCH

Volvamos de nuevo a una de las escuelas dominantes de los 80, sobre todo de la primera mitad de esa década como era la estadounidense, en esta ocasión al sonido heavy metal, con algún destello hard, encarnado en la banda "Snakebyte" otro de los grupos de breve existencia formados en 1981 y separados en 1987, dando su carrera el único fruto en forma de LP del disco homónimo al nombre de la banda y editado en 1986. Solo seis temas, poco más de 25 minutos de música aunque realmente interesante, prometedora de que en otras circunstancias la banda podría haber desarrollado una carrera mucho más reseñable, larga y productiva. Canciones para una vida - Hooves Of Steel - Vargavinter + Winter Storm

VARGAVINTER  +  WINTER  STORM

Otra banda más en sus primeros pasos, el grupo sueco - holandés "Hooves of steel", en clave de power completamente con rasgos compositivos europeos, y con muchos de los clichés típicos del género incluyendo las letras de fantasía, con algunos añadidos como alguna pincelada death en lo vocal, una sección de percusión contundente, les da una cierta versatilidad que permite vislumbrar un futuro prometedor. Formados en 2020, hasta la fecha de esta reseña han editado tan solo un par de EP's, en 2020 y 2021, el segundo de ellos de título "Winter storm" es del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, la que da nombre a la obra más la intro inicial, un inicio de disco del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Briar - Crown Of Thorns

CROWN  OF  THORNS

Vamos con la anchísima escena ochentera británica que terminó englobando a tantas bandas del momento bajo las siglas de la NWOBHM, un filón casi infinito de grupos, más aún si incluimos a los que se movían por el indefinido límite del heavy metal y el hard rock como es el caso de la banda que hoy nos ocupa, "Briar". Formados en 1979 tendían poco más de una década de acitividad, hasta 1993, y no comenzarían a editar material de estudio hasta 1985 donde lanzan el primero de sus tres LP's de estudio. En 1987 llegaría el segundo de ellos que es el que hoy traigo al blog, "Crown of thorns" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog el tema que le da nombre y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Magnum - Run Into The Shadows

RUN  INTO  THE  SHADOWS

La leyenda del hard rock y heavy melódico británica Magnum vuelve en este 2024 aunque lo haga con esa sensación de fin, la perdida del guitarrista Tony Clarkin a comienzos de este 2024 pone al menos la duda de la continuidad en el futuro de la banda, ya que a nivel compositivo se antoja una pieza directamente insustituible y aunque no todo el peso compositivo de la banda recayese sobre él, su ausencia se debería al menos hacer palpable, es por ese motivo añadido por el que este será el último LP con Clarkin en él y esa carga extra debe al menos hacernos acerar a la obra. Siempre es una buena idea perderse en un disco de Magnum, veteranos que se la saben todas, que se conocen de memoria y que han dejado capitulos importantísimos en el firmamento sonoro metálico. "Here Comes the rain" es el vigésimo cuarto LP de estudio de la banda, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas que lo forman, "Run into the shadows" de que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dolezall - Scourge Of God

SCOURGE  OF  GOD

Otra banda más que se encuentra aún dando sus primeros pasos compositivos, los chilenos Dolezall, que en clave de heavy power melódico recupera la tradición de finales de los noventa y los 2000 del estilo con esa tradición que encontramos en bandas por ejemplo argentinas y que Dolezall ha sabido hacer suyas, algo que se nota bastante en la forma de crear coros y en general la construcción vocal algo skiltroniana o triddanica. Pero aquí no encontramos la vertiente folk, si el espiritu épico. Formados en 2020 de momento, y hasta la fecha de esta reseña han editado solo un LP, en 2021, pero también tres EP`s a modo de trilogía "Dark tales from medieval times a lo largo de 2022 y 2023 que podría unido tomarse por un segundo LP.  Del primero de esos citados EP's "Part 1 a dark beginning" dejo hoy el tema que lo abre, "Scourge of god" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

THE  INVISIBLE  FORTRESS

Nueva banda belga que da sus primeros pasos, estos adentrándose en el sentimiento épico, con una atmósfera absolutamente de heavy metal de la vieja escuela, un poco a medio camino de la escuela estadounidense y la europea. Formados en 2020 Impending Triumph han dejado el pasado 2023 su primer material de estudio, en formato EP "Impending Triumph" cinco temas de presentación que prometen ser solo el inicio de una carrera destinada a dar que hablar. Canciones para una vida - Silent Winter - Dragon Dance

 

DRAGON  DANCE

Vamos ahora con la banda griega "Silent Winter", (los griegos, hay alguna banda más que lo han intentado bajo este nombre). La escena griega una vez más con su super explosión de bandas reseñables. En este caso el grupo tuvo una época inicial, en la que no salieron de unas demos entre 1995 y 2001, para retomar su actividad desde 2018 en adelante desde cuyo regreso han editado un EP inicial en 2018 seguido de dos LP's en el 19 y 21. Hablamos de power metal con un toque progresivo, y un trabajo que permite destacar al vocalista de buenas facultades y cuya forma de cantar a mi personalmente me recuerda a Henning Basse de Metalium, coros épicos, muchos elementos para al menos asomarse a la propuesta de esta banda que busca una segunda oportunidad y camino lleva de aprovecharla, veremos. Canciones para una vida - Catch The Giant - Fifth Corner Of The World

FIFTH  CORNER  OF  THE  WORLD

Nueva banda italiana que en el pasado 2023 editó su disco debut, con un enfoque a medio camino del power el haevy metal y el hard rock, según el momento de la obra, encontramos un disco que promete un futuro al menos esperenzador para la banda, buen equilibrio entre elementos, y además logrado autoeditando la obra, lo que en la actualidad más allá de ser posible es además bastante común. Obra que apunta al power melódico sin complejos incluso a través de temas de más de diez minutos como el que dejo hoy en el blog, "Fifth corner of the world" buen resumen del sonido de la banda con diferentes momentos, demostrando el potencial enganchón que pueden desarrollar, el ambiente algo progresivo incluso, veremos lo que les depara el futuro. Canciones para una vida - Drysill - Fiesta For Friends

 

FIESTA  FOR  FRIENDS

Que gran pena que esta banda islandesa no prolongase su carrera más allá del año que estuvieron en activo entre 1984 y 1985, dejando el magnífico fruto compositivo del disco "Welcome to the show", el único de su discografía. Muchas cosas que destacar de esta obra en clave de heavy metal de la vieja escuela, rompiendo los tópicos de que las grandes bandas eran británicas o estadounidenses en esos años. El buen hacer compositivo de sus componentes es evidente. Destaca entre otros la voz de Eirikur Hauksson que después del cese de la actividad de Drysill se enrolaba en la banda noruega Artch de la que ya he hablado en el blog en alguna ocasión. Volviendo al magnífico disco "Welcome to the show" de 1985, quiero dejar en el blog otro de sus temas, en este caso el que lo cierra, "Fiesta for friends", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - My Last Whisper - Hero's Return

HERO'S  RETURN

Vamos con otra banda más de la escena sueca, tan prolífica como llena de calidad en la mayoría de casos, hoy con otro grupo que aún está en los primeros momentos de su carrera, "My last Whisper", formados en 2015, y que solo ha editado en este tiempo dos LP's de estudio, "Embers of eden" de 2017 y "Ascended" de 2019. Estamos hablando de un sonido en clave de power metal pero con un aire progresivo, sin que marque este aspecto más su sonido que el del power de corte europeo. Canciones para una vida - Ironflame - Storm Crusher

STORM  CRUSHER

Vamos con la banda estadounidense Ironflame, un grupo en clave de heavy metal de la vieja escuela pero en el presente siglo, producción actual para un concepto clásico de heavy metal de la escuela americana con ese componente épico a lo manilla road. En el recién pasado 2023 la banda decide editar un disco en cierto modo recopilatorio desde la perspectiva de que incluye temas propios que en su momento incluyeron como bonus de ediciones europeas, y en otro modo es un disco nuevo porque presenta temas descartados en su momento, un disco con material especial en que encontramos joyitas como este "Storm Crusher" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube, otra banda destinada a dar que hablar si siguen por esta senda.

Nuevo adelanto del nuevo disco de los finlandeses Sonata Arctica que han prometido que han regresado a una senda mucho más acorde a lo que venían haciendo ultimamente demasiado alejado del deslumbrante power de la primera parte de su carrera.
