URSA  MAJOR

Se acerca el momento de la presentación oficial del sexto LP de estudo de los estadounidenses "Judicator", exactamente para el 25 de noviembre. Sin duda alguna parece que la banda ha alcanzado ya un nivel de confianza, de afianzamiento y consolidados cada paso que han ido dando parece en la buena dirección. Siempre queda en el aire esa sensación de encontrar en su influencia compositiva tanto a la escuela europea como a la estadounidense, siempre dentro del power como marco musical. El sexto LP llevará por título "The majesty of decay" y parece que será una obra conceptual de la que hoy dejo en el blog su tema "Ursa Major" como aperitivo, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a oyutube.

FATHER

Un poco en la línea de pensamiento de la anterior entrada del blog sobre Rage, quiero hoy dejar el nuevo material de estudio de los suecos Sabaton, otro grupo que como digo, se apunta a la idea de "ordeñar la vaca" con la excusa de dar material nuevo a los fans. En realidad por sorpresa la banda ha anunciado la presentación de una trilogía de EP's que seguiran con la temática de la primera guerra mundial, en la que se incluye un tema nuevo y cinco temas escogidos de su discografía. Realmente uno no puede evitar pensar en el afan recaudatorio y la maniobra de marketing para vender un puñado de temas nuevos en lugar de haciendolo en un único EP, en tres, pero bueno, es parte del negocio musical y los seguidores de la banda y de su sonido seguro que lo celebrarán. El título de este primer EP de la trilogía es "Weapons of the modern age" y el de su tema nuevo "Father", canción de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

TO  LIVE  AND  TO  DIE

Si hay una banda prolífica por excelencia en esto del heavy metal esos son Rage, o lo que viene a ser sinónimo de Peavy Wagner, una de esas bandas que llevan décadas dando muestra de su capacidad y que siguen en la misma línea de calidad, con una carrera muy bien diseñada. En estos días nos dejan una muestra de esa previsión y de esa capacidad compositiva a través de un nuevo EP, "Spreading the plague", que ha visto de forma oficial la luz el 30 de septiembre, una obra diseñada para enganchar a los seguidores de la banda invitándoles a participar de los al fin inminentes conciertos que esperan desarrollar. Se trata de un EP con tres temas nuevos, grabados en la sesión de su anterior LP "Resurrection day" de 2021, guardados con toda la intención para este propósito y a los que unen dos temas regrabados y variados, más uno grabado en vivo en estudio. Canciones para una vida - Orden Ogan - Interstellar (Feat. Brainstorm)

 

INTERSTELLAR  (FEAT.  BRAINSTORM)

Las novedades compositivas de los alemanes Orden Ogan sin duda se prestarán a especulación en lo que se refiere a las intenciones de editar un LP por segunda vez pero con artistas invitados, y es que la fórmula de editar un segundo e incluso un tercer LP con variaciones de las canciones en plan orquestal, acústico o instrumental en una edición especial está muy al día, pero editar una variación un año después es menos común. Se como fuere, estamos ante una banda que lleva mucho tiempo haciendo las cosas bien, y la figura musical al frente de la banda, Seeb Levermann destaca también por su labor de productor y su costumbre de colaborar en otras bandas o proyectos, quizá solo sea el momento de "cobrarse" esas colaboraciones plasmandolas en material propio y con la excusa hacer un poquito de caja, que nunca viene mal. Uno de los grupos a los que produce Seeb es "Brainstorm" quien ha colaborado con Orden Ogan en esta canción, "Interstellar" de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

SIGN  OF  THE  GYPSY  QUEEN

Vamos con uno de esos representantes del sonido previo al nacimiento como tal del heavy metal, uno de esos grupos que comenzó su andadura a comienzos de los setenta o finales de los sesenta, y que creció en ese momento previo, siendo parte del semillero influyente de muchos tras ellos, estos más orientados e influyentes hacia el hard rock, pero que hicieron algún guiño más hard 'n heavy una vez comenzada la década de los ochenta. De cualquier forma "April Wine" tuvo su parte de contribución al todo que es el heavy metal, desde esa perspectiva más rock. De origen canadiense, una de esas escuelas de calidad y cuna de grandes bandas, "April wine" llegaron a publicar dieciseis LP's de estudio, el noveno de los cuales se tituló "The nature of the beast", de 1981, uno de esos albumes con un sonido más hard 'n heavy, muy siguiendo la linea que se imponía en esa época poco a poco. TO  THE  KING

Parece que la banda proyecto "Warkings" coge una inercia imparable con cuatro LP's de estudio en cuatro años de existencia, y además en una línea absoluta de obras a considerar, hasta el punto de que por ejemplo la banda de su cantante, el miembro que realmente ha trascendido de la banda que funciona con pseudónimos, como digo la banda del cantante, Serenity, en ese mismo periodo de existencia ha cesado en su publicación de material de estudio con solo un LP en 2020, veremos hacia donde termina llevando esta aventura en clave de un heavy power contundente, bien diseñado y que como digo gana enteros obra tras obra. En estos días dejan el segundo single del cuatro LP, "Morgana" que vera la luz de forma oficial el próximo mes de noviembre, hasta ese momento dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube de este "To the King".

LET  ME  ROCK

Vistazo de nuevo a los comienzos de nuestro sonido, a los inicios de los ochenta sin cuyo concurso nunca hubiese el heavy metal llegado a diversificarse y evolucionar hasta lo que hoy en día conocemos. Muchas banda tubieron una contribución mayor o menor, en una onda u otra al concepto general del heavy metal, y cada escena dió su propio toque que influiría en otros hasta completar la mencionada amalgama de sonidos que es el heavy metal. Hoy vamos de nuevo con la escena estadounidense, fundamental en esos primeros años de los ochenta y al sonido orientado al hard 'n heavy encarnados en la banda "Rosie" que apenas tuvo actividad compositiva en esos años, con un EP en 1980 y un LP en 1982, "Precious metal", del que hoy quiero dejar uno de sus temas en el blog, en concreto el que abre el disco, "Let me rock" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Incursion - Running Out

 

RUNNING  OUT

La enorme cantidad de bandas que poblaron los ochenta en las diversas escenas internacionales dejó a muchas de ellas en el anonimato, e incluso a muchas otras que apenas si grabaron una demo, ni tan siquiera un single o un EP, una de ellas estos estadounidenses, "Incursion" que desde 2018 decidieron darse una segunda oportunidad para demostrar que pudieron haberlo logrado con mejores circunstancias. Hablamos de un concepto de heavy metal clásico, a la que pordrímos unir otra serie de etiquetas, doom, power, NWOBHM, e incluso alguna pincelada progresiva. 2020 fue testigo de su primer material oficial publicado en forma de EP, serio precursor de este primer LP, "Blinding Force" que verá la luz de forma oficial el 11 de noviembre, y del que dejan en estos días su primer single, "Running Out" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Skyforger - Lec Eglite

 

LEC EGLITE

Desde 2015 los letones Skyforger no editaba material nuevo de estudio, y es este 2022 cuando resucitan en ese apartado a través de un single que de momento no es preludio de un nuevo LP, aunque los músicos han hecho referencia a que casi seguro que a lo largo del próximo 2023 veremos una nueva obra suya editada. Este grupo tiene una dedicación no a tiempo completo con la banda ya que deben tener trabajos aparte de su actividad musical. Su nicho sonoro se centra en ese pagan metal folk, nórdico, muuy ruso si se quiere en ese sentido, pero con unas líricas en sus canciones muy marcadas por el folclore letón, y por las tradiciones primigenias de su pueblo. De hecho el single que presentan "Lec Eglite" es una canción tradicional adaptada que se utiliza para las bodas de ese país, y que va relacionada con tradiciones paganas. Canciones para una vida - Steel Arctus - God Of Fire

 

GOD  OF  FIRE

Ya estamos muy cerquita de la publicación de forma oficial del segundo LP de estudio de la banda griega "Steel Arctus" que se producirá en Octubre. Ya su primera obra "Fire and blood" de 2020 dejó más que interesantes pinceladas así como la enésima confirmación del excelente estado de forma de su escena natal y ahora, a través de este "Master of war" es el momento de confirmar esos buenos presagios. El segundo adelanto de ls misma se titula "God of fire", canción en la que encontramos un enfoque más "Speedico" quizá de lo mostrado hasta ahora, un tema por lo tanto rápido que hará las delicias de los amantes del sonido clásico, aunque con producción moderna, un tema del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Tungsten - Northern Lights

 

NORTHERN  LIGHTS

Una de las especialidades de esta banda sueca, "Tungsten" parece estar siendo ese tipo de temas tranquilos, baladísticos pero sin carencia de fuerza, son temas que transmiten esa melancolía, con dosis de épico dramatismo, algo que logran perfectamente en parte por la melódica voz de Michael Andersson. Parece que en esta tercera obra han regresado al lado melódico y algo menos industrial, aunque siempre se quedan en ese límite que pone dificil encasillarlos en un solo subgénero. Volviendo al argumento de más arriba, buen ejemplo de ese tipo de canciones es "Northern Lights" de este "Bliss" de 2022, tercero de los albumes de la banda de completa confirmación, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Ironflame - Where Madness Dwells

 

WHERE  MADNESS  DWELLS

Mucho donde escoger, si lo tuyo es el heavy metal de corte clásico, en la última de las obras de estudio de la banda estadounidense "Ironflame", "Where madeness dwells" de este 2022, la que supone el tercer LP del grupo que es sinónimo del músico multiinstrumentista Andrew D'Cagna, quien no solo lleva el peso compositivo sino que además en estudio se encarga de todo, voz incluida. Estamos ante un hevy metal que tiene tanto reminiscencias compositivas del heavy de la old school de la escena estadounidense de los 80, así como de la NWOBHM, en una mezcla casi al cincuenta por ciento que les da un rasgo personal, Es además una banda que va en franco crecimiento y mejoría, y el cenit de momento se ve en este "Where madness dwells", disco del que hoy dejo en el blog el tema que da nombre a la obra y que lo cierra, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Amon Amarth - The Serpent's Trail

 

THE  SERPENT'S  TRAIL

Tengo la sensación con este, y realmente con los últimos LP's de la banda sueca Amon Amarth, que eso que sucede con muchas bandas, en lo referente a como el gran público trata al final a las bandas, que muchas veces se es injusto, es muy sencillo juzgar los trabajos de los grupos sacando conclusiones demasiado rápidas, y tirandoles del pedestal al barro con demasiada facilidad. Es evidente que la banda ha vivido tiempos mejores, sobre todo desde la aceptación de los fans, es evidente que se han afianzado en un momento más bien fácil, en ese nicho sonoro de no arriesgar, de seguir la inercia, pero deberíamos analizar cada obra en si misma, y disfrutaríamos más de cada obra que sintiendo esa rara traición a nuestros deseod porque esperasemos otra cosa. El disco de turno gusta o no, ese debería ser nuestro juicio antes de quemar a nadie. Y siento, al leer cosas sobre la banda, que se les está tirando mucho por tierra, algo que se me antoja injusto. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de las canciones que forman parte de su último, y reciente LP, en concreto "The serpent's trail" en ese concepto de medio tiempo con pretensiones épicas, camción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

THE  SICK  THE  DYING  AND  THE  DEAD

Megadeth es sin nigún género de dudas una de esas bandas que no necesitan de presentación alguna, tanto como su lider Dave Mustaine, quien como todos sabemos formó parte de Metallica en los comienzos de la banda y tras una salida traumática formó Megadeth, como el mismo ha reconocido, con la intención de destronar a su ex banda, aunque tras encontrar su propia senda y alcanzar el cetro del thrash metal siendo uno de los considerados "Big Four", todo lo relacionado con el grupo comenzó a ser tratado más desde lo musical que desde lo no musical. Hoy, tras casi cuarenta años de historia, y quince LP's de estudio incluyendo el recién publicado "The sick, the dying and the dead", todo lo que suene a Megadeth es motivo de atención musical, con sus detractores y sus defensores, pero bueno, esa es ya la historia de siempre. En breve ya veremos publicado de forma oficial el nuevo LP de los finlandeses Stratovarius, el que será ya el décimo sexto de la discografía de la banda, de título "Survive" y cuya fecha exacta para ponerse a la venta será pasado mañana día 23 de Octubre. Tras siete años de silencio, y a juzgar por los adelantos que han mostrado de la nueva obra parece que estamos ante un disco importante de esta 2022, parecen recuperarse los rasgos clásicos que han hecho de su sonido lo reconocible que fue siempre, y en este caso apuntan a sus mejores momentos, veremos en su conjunto el disco entero sigue por esa senda. El tercero de los singles es "Frozen in time", que recupera los camios de ritmo, con aire untanto progresivo sin llegar a ello completamente, un tema del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a oyutube.
