THE  SERPENT'S  TRAIL

Tengo la sensación con este, y realmente con los últimos LP's de la banda sueca Amon Amarth, que eso que sucede con muchas bandas, en lo referente a como el gran público trata al final a las bandas, que muchas veces se es injusto, es muy sencillo juzgar los trabajos de los grupos sacando conclusiones demasiado rápidas, y tirandoles del pedestal al barro con demasiada facilidad. Es evidente que la banda ha vivido tiempos mejores, sobre todo desde la aceptación de los fans, es evidente que se han afianzado en un momento más bien fácil, en ese nicho sonoro de no arriesgar, de seguir la inercia, pero deberíamos analizar cada obra en si misma, y disfrutaríamos más de cada obra que sintiendo esa rara traición a nuestros deseod porque esperasemos otra cosa. El disco de turno gusta o no, ese debería ser nuestro juicio antes de quemar a nadie. Y siento, al leer cosas sobre la banda, que se les está tirando mucho por tierra, algo que se me antoja injusto. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de las canciones que forman parte de su último, y reciente LP, en concreto "The serpent's trail" en ese concepto de medio tiempo con pretensiones épicas, camción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

THE  SICK  THE  DYING  AND  THE  DEAD

Megadeth es sin nigún género de dudas una de esas bandas que no necesitan de presentación alguna, tanto como su lider Dave Mustaine, quien como todos sabemos formó parte de Metallica en los comienzos de la banda y tras una salida traumática formó Megadeth, como el mismo ha reconocido, con la intención de destronar a su ex banda, aunque tras encontrar su propia senda y alcanzar el cetro del thrash metal siendo uno de los considerados "Big Four", todo lo relacionado con el grupo comenzó a ser tratado más desde lo musical que desde lo no musical. Hoy, tras casi cuarenta años de historia, y quince LP's de estudio incluyendo el recién publicado "The sick, the dying and the dead", todo lo que suene a Megadeth es motivo de atención musical, con sus detractores y sus defensores, pero bueno, esa es ya la historia de siempre. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas de esta nueva obra, en concreto la que da nombre a la misma, buen ejemplo de que el grupo sigue en su línea tras superar en 2020 Dave Mustaine un cancer de garganta, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Frozen In Time

 

FROZEN  IN  TIME

En breve ya veremos publicado de forma oficial el nuevo LP de los finlandeses Stratovarius, el que será ya el décimo sexto de la discografía de la banda, de título "Survive" y cuya fecha exacta para ponerse a la venta será pasado mañana día 23 de Octubre. Tras siete años de silencio, y a juzgar por los adelantos que han mostrado de la nueva obra parece que estamos ante un disco importante de esta 2022, parecen recuperarse los rasgos clásicos que han hecho de su sonido lo reconocible que fue siempre, y en este caso apuntan a sus mejores momentos, veremos en su conjunto el disco entero sigue por esa senda. El tercero de los singles es "Frozen in time", que recupera los camios de ritmo, con aire untanto progresivo sin llegar a ello completamente, un tema del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a oyutube.

Canciones para una vida - 220 Volt - Heavy Christmas

 

HEAVY  CHRISTMAS

Vamos hoy con otra banda sueca de las que pueden considerarse pioneras del heavy metal de ese país, y eso es mucho decir sobre todo desde la perspectiva actual con la explosión en cantidad y calidad de grupos de esa escuela. Se trata de 220 Volt, un grupo que a pesar de haber tenido una carrera intermitente, con una producción escasa de obras teniendo en cuenta que se juntaron en 1979 y que han editado, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, seis LP's de estudio. Su primera etapa abarca desde el citado 1979 hasta 1990, con cuatro LP's en ese periodo, de los que los tres primeros son los más orientados al heavy metal, después el giro hacia el hard rock es bastante acusado. Siempre hablamos de gran calidad en estos chicos, y atendiendo a ese primer periodo centrado en el heavy de la old school quiero dejar un tema de su segundo LP, "Power Games" de 1984, concretamente un bonus en plan navideño que me ha acompañado desde que tengo memoria musical, "Heavy Christmas", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - White Skull - Skull In The Closet

 

SKULL  IN  THE  CLOSET

El undécimo LP de estudio de los italianos "White Skull" empieza a desvelar sus secretos a través del primero de sus adelantos "Skull in the closet". La obra verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo mes de octubre, y como hecho destacado encontramos la relación musical de la banda de nuevo con Chris Boltendhal de Grave Digger que presta su voz para uno de los temas de la nueva obra y además se ha encargado de la mezcla del disco.Parece un guiño a los inicios de la banda, a su "Tales from the north" de 1999, una obra que siempre me ha gustado mucho, por lo musical y por lo personal, veremos si este "Metal never rusts" alcanza ese nivelazo. Canciones para una vida - Majesty - Sword & Sorcery

 

SWORD  &  SORCERY

Otro grupo del que ya llevamos tiempo sin tener noticias de su actividad compositiva son los alemanes "Majesty", una banda que comenzó su andadura allá por 1997 con su innegable espejo llamado Manowar, un tema que resulta tan evidente que jamás se han molestado en negarlo o justificar nada, y que era más evidente aún en el inicio de su carrera. Poco a poco, con la edición de LP's han ido tratando de encontrar un camino más propio y personal aunque jamás se han terminado de alejar de ese sonido tan "True" que los americanos hicieran suyo y que otros como por ejemplo Majesty han imitado. Desde 2019 no editan nada nuevo, con la que ha sido su noveno LP "Legends", y hoy quiero repasar de nuevo su discografía para centrarme en su segundo LP, el primero que cayó en mis manos del grupo, un disco muy "Manowaristico", de 2002, que por sonido y estética, (basta con ver la portada) confirma esa influencia. Canciones para una vida - Falconer - We Sold Our Homesteads

 

WE  SOLD  OUR  HOMESTEADS

Es siempre una lástima la separación de una banda, y cuando ese grupo ha entregado capitulos discográficos que te han llegado, desarrollando un estilo personal aunque se agarre a otras corrientes ya preexistentes, la pena se redobla dando una cierta sensación de horfandad por la certeza de no tener más episodios de ese tipo. Con los suecos Falconer me pasa eso, si repaso la discografía de la banda que nos dejó nueve LP's de estudio entre 1999 y 2020, encuentro muchos de esos momentos que por uno u otro motivo dejaron el sello de la banda y en mí dejaron también buenos recuerdos asociados a ellos, lo que suele pasar con esto de la música, de ahí en parte ese poder que tiene. En 2002 el grupo sacaba su segundo LP de estudio, "Chapters from a vale forlorn", que tenía la misión de dar relevo al fenomenal debut del grupo un año antes, debut con gran acogida por la crítica, merecida, y que les puso en el mapa. El segundo LP es digno sucesor del primero, quizá menos completo pero donde perfilaban definitivamente lo que iba a ser el sello sonoro de la banda, un disco muy reconocible en términos "Falconer" del que hoy dejo en el blog una de las canciones, "We sold our homesteads" que encarna bien una de las especialidades del grupo, la vertiente a fuego lento, los medios tiempos de aire un tanto melancólico y no carentes de fuerza, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Cryonic Temple - King Of Transylvania

 

KING  OF  TRANSYLVANIA

De vuelta a la nutrida escena power europea de finales de los 90 y principios de los 2000, rescatamos hoy a otra banda que aún no había traido al blog, los suecos "Cryonic Temple", un claro ejemplo de infantería metálica, es decir una banda de esas que sin destacar demasiado, diluida en un sonido por entonces absolutamente masivo, si que supieron desde el comienzo hacer muy bien las cosas, ser correctos cuando menos y desarrollar un potencial que quizá mejor orientado y con por ejemplo menos parones, más continuidad habría podido alcanzar mayores cotas de popularidad a juzgar por el potencial y también por su buen hacer plasmado en sus obras, por supuesto. Formados en 1996 han desarrollado una carrera como digo con parones y con una discografía un tanto escasa a juzgar por los años de actividad que asciende a 6 LP's de estudio. El primero de esos LP's es de 2002, titulado "Chapter I", un gran primer paso de heavy power metal con aire épico, en ocasiones, como en el tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "King of Transylvania" con ese espiritu de Happy Metal a lo Helloween, Gamma Ray o Freedom Call, se notan las influencias clásicas de la banda. Canciones para una vida - Forodwaith - Revenge Of Mjolnir

 

REVENGE  OF  MJOLNIR

Un poquito de death melódico de vertiente folk para hoy, en esta ocasión con los bielorrusos "Forodwaith", una banda de la que ya he hablado en el blog, que han mostrado una enorme capacidad pero a los que les está fallando la consistencia compositiva, la continuidad ya que han dejado largos periodos de tiempo entre composición y composición, y teniendo en cuenta su longevidad ya bajo el nombre de "Forodwaith" desde 2010 (ya que antes lo hicieron bajo el de Minas Morgul entre 2006 y 2010), nos damos cuenta de que dos LP's de estudio en este periodo de más de diez años se antoja demasiado poco. El debut es sin duda digno de mención, "Nirnaeth Arnediad", de 2012, haciendo referencia al universo Tolkien, en una clave de death folk melódico, muchos temas a escoger, otro de ellos el que hoy dejo en el blog, "Revenge of Mjolnir" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Before The Dawn - Throne Of Ice

 

THRONE  OF  ICE

Ya he hablado en el blog de la figura de Tuomas Saukkonen, el músico finlandes que desde 2013 se centró en la banda "Wolfheart", ya que hasta ese año había diversificado enormemente sus esfuerzos compositivos en varios proyectos y bandas, algunas, quizás las más conocidas fueron por ejemplo Black sun aeon, Routasielu, Dawn of solace o Before The Dawn, y es hoy de esta última de la que quiero dejar algo de material en el blog  Enfrascado en este proyecto estará entre 1999 y 2013, siendo uno de sus proyectos más longevos y en él desarrollo funciones de vocalista,(gutural), guitarra electrica y acustica, bajo, teclado batería y por supuesto composición. Desde 2021 parece haber resucitado su actividad que como digo había cesado en 2013 para centrarse en "Wolfheart", pero dos singles del pasado año y del presente 2022 parecen darnos esperanza de nuevo material en formato LP para el futuro. de momento, a fecha de esta reseña 7 LP's de estudio más dos EP's conforman su discografía, de la que "Rise of the Phoenix" es la última editada, de 2012, y de ella quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas que contiene, "Throne of ice", muy Saukkonen death melódico de primera, y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dynazty - Land Of Broken Dreams

 

LAND  OF  BROKEN  DREAMS

Viendo el presente de esta banda, los suecos "Dynazty" y repasando el pasado nos damos cuenta de las muchas papeletas que tienen para un futuro brillante, aunque en ocasiones pasan cosas, a veces externas y otras internas que se cargan a grupos que parecen un ejemplo de éxito y estabilidad, esperemos que eso no se de aquí, el punto que han sabido alcanzar les pone en ese posible y realista futuro, y hoy quiero repasar algo de su pasado otra vez, en este caso de la parte media inicial de la banda, del año 2012, hace ya una década, donde mostraban en su tercer LP de estudio en ya un lustro de actividad, el buen hacer que les ha traido de momento hasta este punto actual. El disco al que me refiero es "Sultans of sin" y la canción que de dicha obra dejo es por ejemplo "land of broken dreams" que presentaron nada menos que en eurovision, aunque tiene muchas donde escoger, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dartagnan - My Love's In Germany

 

MY  LOVE'S  IN  GERMANY

Tercero de los adelantos del grupo germano que sigue con esa línea compositiva del metal de aquellas tierras sobre todo del que se refiere a grupos que se salen de la senda digamos clásica del heavy metal y que se fusionan con otros elementos que puedan ir desde los industriales a los medievales. es por lo general característico de estas bandas que canten en su lengua materna aunque en otras ocasiones, sobre todo creo que si pretenden abrirse a un mercado mayor, lo hacen también en ingles, como es el caso. Estamos hablando ya del quinto LP de la band, "Felsenfest" que verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo 28 de octubre. Este nuevo adelanto lleva por título "My love's in Germany", y cuenta con la colaboración de Zora Cock a la voz de la banda "Blackbiar", tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Mael Mordha - Laudabiliter

 

LAUDABILITER

 Mael Mordha es una banda irlandesa que desarrolla un sonido bastante propio, peculiar mezclando varios elementos que han definido su sonido. Se trata de una banda irlandesa que suena un poco a folk metal de raices célticas, un poco a power doom heavy metal, y elos mismos se definen como "Gaelic doom metal", con unas líricas histórico mitológicas, han desarrollado una carrera bajo el nombre de Mael Mordha desde 1998 hasta que en 2015 deciden separarse, o más bien dejar su futuro en el aire pues parece que pueden retornar a un periodo activo en cualquier momento aunque desde 2013 no editan material nuevo de estudio. Son cuatro los LP's que conforman su discografía, entre 2005 y 2013 y es el LP de este último año citado del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas. La obra lleva por título "Damned when dead" y la canción escogida es la que abre la obra, "Laudabiliter" de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Forefather - The Fate Of Kings

 

THE  FATE  OF  KINGS

Haciendo un repasillo a la discografía de la banda británica "Foorefather" he caido en la cuenta del mucho tiempo ya que hace desde la publicación de su último material de estudio, su el que en realidad es su primer EP, "Tales from a cloud born land" de 2017, que tiene siete antecedentes en formato LP desde 1999 en adelante y que muestran el gran hacer de una banda que me encanta, un grupo que enmarca su sonido en un death black melódic metal de temática absolutamente nórdica, entre vikinga y sajona, altamente recomendable. Este citado repaso en este caso es siempre un ejercicio bien recomendable, y hoy quiero mirar a su parte incial de nuevo para traer una de las canciones que forman parte de su dico "Engla Tocyme" de 2002, el que hace el tercero de sus LP's, concretamente "The fate of kings" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Sunset - Forgotten Kingdom

 

FORGOTTEN  KINGDOM

Siguiendo con la casi interminable lista de bandas ochenteras practicamente desconocidas, hoy tocaremos de nuevo la escena estadounidense de esa década para recuperar hoy a "Sunset", que cumple con muchas de las premisas de ese tipo de bandas y de esa época, con apenas repercusión, una única obra que apenas contaba con seis temas de los que uno es una versión de Led Zeppelin e incluye otro instrumental, que es el que hoy quiero dejar en el blog y que da nombre a la obra, "Forgotten Kingdom", así pues, casi puede hablarse de un EP más que de un LP, en una clave que abraza desde el hard 'n heavy hasta un heavy metal melódico siempre hijo desde la perspectiva de la producción de su época, 1986. Como digo dejo hoy en el blog el tema instrumental que quizá no sea el mejor ejemplo para mostrar todas las características de la banda, aunque siempre habrá ocasión en el futuro de dejar alguno más de sus temas, una canción esta "Forgotten Kingdom" con un cierto aire oriental y misterioso, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
