INTRODUCTION  &  LIFE  AFTER  LIFE

El tercer LP de estudio de los suecos "Insania" lleva por título "Fantasy (a new dimension)", y salió a la venta en 2003. Como ha ocurrido a lo largo de toda la carrera de esta banda, hablamos de un power metal melódico, con un aire muy europeo pero con ese toque también muy sueco del llamado sonido neoclásico. El grupo se forma en 1992 pero su carrera ha tenido una estructura un tanto anómala en lo referente a la producción de material, de hecho parece haber un momento importante en su historia personal en 2003, en que sacan su tercer LP para después vivir una cierta desbandada por parte de muchos de sus miembros que abandonaron las filas de la banda, hasta el punto de que 2004 vio como la banda sacaba 2 demos después de haber mostrado todo su potencial anteriormente a lo largo de sus tres LP's, como haciendo un punto y seguido en su carrera. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas que forman parte de ese tercer album que ponía fin a una época, a la que mostraba una mayor continuidad, y que daría paso a una segunda parte de su carrera mucho más parca en obras, (2007 y su nuevo renacimiento de este 2021). Canciones para una vida - Heavens Gate - Dancin' On A Rope

 

DANCIN'  ON  A  ROPE

Tras el debut de los alemanes "Heavens Gate" bajo este nombre en 1989 con el album "In Control", dieron continuidad en 1990 con un EP, "Open the gate and watch". Ya habían dejado con la boca abierta a más de uno, y se intuía una carrera meteórica hacia la cima en clave del incipiente aún power que se desplegaba por Europa con imparable crecimiento. Todos sabemos de las figuras compositivas que hay tras esta magnífica banda que después además alargarían su fama en el terreno productivo a otras bandas, y uno no deja de sorprenderse por la relativa brevedad de su carrera, por las cualidades musicales individuales de sus componentes así como por la innegable calidad de las obras publicadas, finalmente un total de cinco LP's y cuatro EP's entre 1988 y 1999. El caso es que una banda como Heavens Gate tiene el reconocimiento casi general de muchos metalheads por méritos propios. Canciones para una vida - Feuerschwanz - Ultima Nocte

 

ULTIMA  NOCTE

Siguiendo con el repaso de las obras destacables de este recien terminado 2021, recalo hoy en la última obra editada por los alemanes "Feuerschwanz" quienes han esperado al último día del año para editar su décimo album de estudio, el segundo desde que decidieron darle un aire más serio, o metálico, menos jocoso a su música. el resultado no puede haber sido más pleno de acierto y mostrando esa calidad que sin ningún lugar a dudas poseen. Estamos ante una obra, "memento mori" digna sucesora de su magnífico anterior trabajo "Das elfte gebot" de 2020, que fue, para migusto, sin duda uno de los discos del año de ese 2020. Como digo, siguiendo la estela abierta con esa anterior obra y con ese planteamiento "nuevo" compositivo parecen afianzarse con su folk metal germano. Canciones para una vida - Manimal - Slaves Of Babylon

 

SLAVES  OF  BABYLON

El comienzo de año siempre parece un buen momento para hacer balance de lo que el año saliente nos ha dejado, y en lo músical es igualmente apropiado. En este caso estamos para mi gusto ante un gran año en lo musical, con muchas bandas nuevas y viejas dejando material de primera, grupos que van alcanzando una buena madurez compositiva y a las que este 2021 las ha visto crecer, como es el caso de los suecos "Manimal" que nos dejaban en el mes de octubre su cuarto LP de estudio "Armageddon". Ya venían de ese notable disco "Purgatorio" de 2018 y este de este año no es sino una confirmación de su buen estado de forma y de crecimiento. Varios temas he dajdo ya de dicha obra en el blog, y a modo de repaso de 2021 dejo hoy otro de los que más me han gustado de la misma, "Slaves of Babylon", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Esperemos que el aún incipiente 2022 sea al menos tan bueno como el 21 en lo musical.

Metal Wallpaper BBM - Heathen Foray - Inner Force

METAL  WALLPAPER  BBM

HEATHEN  FORAY  -  INNER  FORCE  -  (2013)

 

Moviendonos en esta ocasión en el terreno del death melódico, de componente viking y con un componente folk, tenemos hoy a esta banda austriaca llamada "Heathen Foray", un grupo que siempre ha ido poco a poco, creciendo con cada obra, (cinco desde 2004 en que se forman), manteniendo el concepto que se habían propuesto desde el inicio de su carrera a pesar de la falta de reconocimiento general, que les ha llevado incluso a tener que hacer aunténticos ejercicios de malabares para editar alguna de sus obras, como por ejemplo "Inner Force" de 2013 de la que hoy dejo su artwork en el blog. La calidad queda patente en cada obra, y en este caso concreto, con "Inner Force" no es una excepción, sin embargo, sea por el subgénero en concreto, por la insuficiente promoción o por algún otro motivo, este disco lo autoprodujeron ellos mismos de forma independiente, sin apoyo discográfico. El disco merece mucho la pena, lleno de temas destacables y que contribuyó a esa ola de bandas que aparecieron desde mitad de los 2000 engrosando las listas de grupos que escogían el death melódico y épico, folk y nórdico para desarrollar su carrera. El sugerente artwork que no deja lugar a dudas de sus intenciones compositivas corrió a cargo de Fabrizio De Rossi, y hoy lo dejo en el blog como decía más arriba.

Canciones para una vida - Split Beaver - Savage

 

 SAVAGE

Comencemos el año con uno de esos ejercicios que tanto disfruto, la recuperación de material antiguo, importante siempre por motivos variados como es el descubrimiento en si mismo de material de calidad, o el entendimiento del movimiento heavy metal en general como algo paulatino, complejo, diverso, ciclico y sobre todo interconectado a través de las décadas y a traves de las bandas, de los diferentes subgéneros. Hoy echaremos la vista bien atrás, hasta el incio mismo de la década de los 80, y nos centraremos en el movimiento de la NWOBHM que tanto hizo por el desarrollo de nuestro sonido preferido. Hoy quiero hablar de una de esas bandas perdidas, apenas conocidas pero que practicaban un sonido muy de su época, (el grupo funcionó entre la parte final de los 70 y la mitad de los 80), editando "Split Beaver" que así se llamaba la banda, un único LP de estudio con un single promocional previo. Su única obra data de 1982, de título "When hell won't have you" y que mostraba ese sonido tan propio de las bandas británicas que se englobaron en el citado movimiento de la NWOBHM. Heavy metal pues sin adornos, en este caso con guiños al hard 'n heavy, y de su única obra quiero dejar en el blog el tema que la abre, y single previo a la publicación del disco, "Savage", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Un poco de historia metálica para empezar el año.

Canciones para una vida - Heir Apparent - Keeper Of The Reign

 

KEEPER  OF  THE  REIGN

Hoy quiero traer al blog de nuevo a los estadounidenses "Heir Apparent", de nuevo porque ya hablé de su segundo LP hace tiempo, y hoy quiero recurrir a su debut, en una onda algo más heavy metálica, o dicho de otra manera aún un poquito menos progresiva, pero con todos los destellos de por donde tomaría dirección la carrera de la banda. Estamos ante otra de esas bandas ochenteras que desarrolló una carrera demasiado corta, demostrando muchisimo más de lo que el reconocimiento demostrado por la escena internacional les devolvió. El caso es que su debut, "Graceful Inheritance" es uno de esos discos olvidadisimos que sorprenderán a más de uno. Desde luego está más en una clave de heavy metal clásico que el resto de su material, pero siempre desde la perspectiva melódica y con tintes progresivos, con una estructura más compleja y llena de cambios, un poco comparable a los inevitables "Queensryche". En definitiva, "Graceful Inheritance" de 1986 es una obra muy recomendable de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas que la componen, en concreto "Keeper Of the Reign", con todo el sabor, con un inicio a medio gas que a mitad de su desarrollo sube un par de marchas para morir después de nuevo en calma, una gran canción de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Them - Encore

 

ENCORE

Volviendo al concepto de bandas que han nacido un poco de "rebote", o como evolución normal a otro concepto previo como es el de banda tributo, para lanzarse con el tiempo a grabar su propio material y así comenzar una carrera propia, quizá fijandose en otra banda, pero en el fondo todas en mayor o menor medida tienen grandes influencias y espejos en que mirarse. Pues bien, en ese saco de bandas metemos a la internacional germano estadounidense, "Them", cuyo espejo fue siempre "King Diamond", y desde lo estético a lo sonoro pasando por lo lírico conceptual a fe que lo han conseguido, lo de ser un tanto clon me refiero. La verdad es que la banda ya lleva un cierto recorrido propio y el pasado 2020 editaron su tercer LP de estudio, "Return To Hemmersmoor", del que hablaré algún día, pero hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema descartado de las sesiones de grabación de esa citada obra, "Encore", que en cierto modo se dejo fuera explicando parte del concepto que narra la obra, y ahora, en 2021 han visto la ocasión estos músicos de publicarla a modo de single digital. Como siempre heavy metal de carácter clásico, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtuve.

SIGNS 

La escena germana siempre destacó, desde muy temprano, por su capacidad para sacar bandas en cantidad y calidad, y el subgénero Power, y las décadas de los 90 y los 2000, fueron un combo poderoso para llenar la escena internacional de bandas de la citada nacionalidad. Uno de esos grupos fueron "Galloglass", uno de esos grupos además de los que tuvieron  un periodo de actividad demasiado corto, con apenas un par de LP's de estudio donde plasmaron un power de alta calidad. 2003 y 2005 fueron los aos escogidos para publicar su único material de estudio. Del segundo de ellos "Heavenseeker" quiero hoy dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, en concreto "Signs" tema que muestra ben el enorme potencial que atesoraban que les habría tenido que hacer poseedores de una mas larga carrera, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Crematory - Revenge Is Mine

 

REVENGE  IS  MINE

cuando hablamos de una banda de esas que han dado que hablar, de las que llevan una larga trayectoria a sus espaldas, de las que han ido abriendo una senda nueva o menos transitada engrandeciendo el sub estilo que han decidido cultivar es cuando hablamos de muchos ojos mirando, de muchas opiniones corriendo en ocasiones más o menos justificadas pero igualmente vehementes. Crematory puede ajustarse a ese tipo de bandas, con una trayectoria a estas alturas de casi cuatro décadas, abriendo o ensanchando senderos proios o poco transitados y varados puesto que ha saltado por dos o tres de ellos, no muy alejados pero si diferentes. El caso es que la banda en 2018 saco su décimo cuarto LP de estudio, "Oblivion" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de sus canciones, y no faltó tiempo para que desde muchos sectores del mundillo se les diera de lo lindo por ello. Es cierto que la obra no debe figurar entre la de mayor acierto, que hay temas incluso poco comprensibles para Crematory, pero igualmente hay calidad que en una banda de este calibre e historia no puede faltar ni aunque lo intenten. Tratandose de un disco de luces y sombras si se pueden extraer buenos momentos, claramente a gusto del consumidor, pero seguro que si sigues a la banda de siempre algo podrás rascar. Hoy quiero yo dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, quizá no el más representativo de su sonido, en una clave medio tiempo, con elementos más comerciales pero que a mi me ha gustado de la obra, es "Revenge is mine" y de dicha canción dejo hoy un nelace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Validor - The Ten Thousand

 

THE  TEN  THOUSAND

Primer adelanto del nuevo LP de los griegos "Validor", aunque sería mejor decir de "Odi Thunderer" psuedónimo del músico Odi Toutounis, la mente compositiva tras la banda, su único integrante permanente y dueño y señor de este proyecto tan "epico" que ya lleva una cierta trayectoria, desde 2008 en adelante como Validor, y anteriormente entre 2005 y 2008 como "Epic storm". Sea como sea la banda sigue adelante, mostrandonos como digo los primeros detalles del que será ya su quinto LP de estudio "Full triumphed" que verá la luz este próximo mes de febrero. Para la ocasión ha encontrado la colaboración como músicos de sesión de Bob Katsionis conocido por su trabajo en muchas bandas y proyectos, entre otros Warriro Path o Serious Black, Firewind o Outloud por citar los más renombrados . THE  TRAIN

Volviendo al repaso de lo mucho que ha dado de si este 2021 en lo que a discos de bandas nuevas, no tanto y veteranas, quiero hoy volver a echar un vistazo al proyecto canadiense "Master Spy", un grupo que aparentemente salido de la nada y del que poco ha transcendido, nos ha dejado un EP con una muestra de potencial increible en clave de heavy metal clásicote, muy a lo Iron Maiden pero con un aire al mismo tiempo más nuevo, un pelín "masterplanizado". El resultado es un deslumbrante conjunto de canciones que tras su escucha dan lugar al deseo de más, como si se hubiese abonado perfectamente el terreno para lo que puede estar por venir más adelante, (ojala), quizá en ese momento sepamos quienes están tras ese proyecto y entendamos mejor de donde han salido con ese aire tan clásico. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de esos cinco temas que han formado parte de ese EP, ese magnífico debut, en concreto el que le da nombre, "The Train", el más largo de los ya de por sí largos cinco temas, este con poco más de 10 minutos que en ningún momento se hace largo, antes al contrario, como decía más arriba la obra te deja con ganas de más. Canciones para una vida - Walrus - Hear The Thunder

 

HEAR  THE  THUNDER

Primer contacto con la escena internacional de los suizos "Walrus" quienes en estos días muestran su primer trabajo de estudio, en forma de EP, de título "Unstoppable Force". Hablamos de un estilo que fluctua entre el heavy metal y el power de corte europeo. La banda se forma en 2014 y desde entonces, sin recibir apoyo discográfico, se han lanzado en este 2021 a editar de forma independiente este su primer material. Interesante conjunto de cinco canciones que es también promesa de un potencial que puede llegara explotar a poco que reciban apoyo, de momento ellos solos se venden bastante bien a través de estas cinco canciones de las que hoy dejo un en el blog, en concreto "Hear The thunder" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube. Veremos en el futuro si tenemos más noticias de estos chicos.

Canciones para una vida - Eternity's End - Embers Of War

 

EMBERS  OF  WAR

Los alemanes "Eternity's End" son una banda que a pesar de llevar ya unos años en activo, (desde 2014), y de su innegable calidad, no han cosechado demasiado reconocimiento internacional. Sus dos primeros LP's ya mostraban ese enorme potencial y desde 2018, con una casi total renovación de integrantes, (solo Hannes Grossmann a la batería permanece como miembro en activo), se embarcan en su tercer LP que en este tramo final de 2021 (26 de noviembre) ve la luz con todo el brillo que se venía sospechando que la banda podía mostrar. estamos ante ese concepto sobre todo clásico, a medio camino de muchas cosas, heavy power con reminiscencias a bandas clásicas, de las que a mi cabeza acude sobre todo "Iron Savior", quizá también por la colaboración de Piet Sielk en algunos aspectos de la obra. Sea como sea, calidad, velocidad, técnica y acierto compositivo hace de este "Embers of war" una obra completamente recomendable, uno de esos discos que te puedes tragar de un tirón sin apenas enterarte y del que hoy dejo en el blog una de las canciones que lo componen, concretamente la que da nombre a la obra, "Embers of war" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Insania - Seasons Of Life

 

SEASONS  OF  LIFE

La escena europea de la década de los noventa, (finales) y de la década de los 2000 se vio invadida, saturada de bandas que se apuntaban al power metal como medio compositivo para desarrollar su carrera. Se diversifica y desarrolla entre otros subgéneros puntualizando incluso por zonas o regiones adquiriendo ciertas características particulares según la zona donde se compusiera, naciendo así el llamado europower que tantos exponentes tuvo en esas citadas décadas siendo el norte de europa incluyendo Alemania y toda escandinavia exponentes de la mayoria de bandas en cantidad y calidad, aunque no solo, por supuesto, otras escenas como la Italiana por ejemplo se apuntaron casi en tropel a la citada "moda". Surgen así docenas de bandas que en ocasiones apenas tienen ocasión de asomarse a la abarrotada escena internacional y comienzan la mezclas de matices en busca de una identidad propia. Insania es uno de esos grupos suecos que desarrolla su carrera en esas circunstancias, y con elementos que incluyen también un aire neoclásico y algo progresivo muestran su propuesta que nunca tuvo un reconocimiento masivo, ni mucho menos, quizá por ese componente un poco más complejo de su estilo personal. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones que componen su segundo LP, "Sunrise in riverland" de 2001, de los cinco que hasta la fecha de esta reseña componen su discografía, en concreto la canción "Seasons of life" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
