EYE  OF  THE  STORM 

 

Vamos hoy con un rescate de esos de los ochenta, otra banda más de las que quedaron sepultadas en el olvido sin ir más allá de unas demos que sin dudarlo hablaban de un potencial enorme que apenas pudo ser demostrado, son los estadounidenses Fatal Violence que permanecieron en activo entre 1984 y 1989, siendo una de esas bandas que posteriormente, en 2008, recopilaron el material de sus dos demos en un disco llamemos "postumo" al que pertenece la portada que comienza esta reseña. La banda realmente tenía todo para haber hecho algo grande, no es un tema, son muchos de sus demos, imaginemos el potencial al desarrollar una carrera de décadas. Un buen ejemplo es el tema que dejo en el blog hoy, "Eye of the storm", con un innegable aire a los primeros, primerísimos Queensryche, o incluso a los Fates Warning iniciales, sea como sea hablamos de nivelazo compositivo e interpretativo más incluso si pensamos en un nivel productivo de demos, imaginate esto grabado hoy en día, sería algo serio. H.E.A.T. - Tear It Down - Canciones Para Una Vida

TEAR  IT  DOWN

Vamos de nuevo con lo último de los suecos H.E.A.T., "Welcome to the future" del presente 2025 (25 de abril), séptimo album de estudio de la banda, que en líneas generales continúa la línea ascendente del grupo que alcanza obra tras obra. Hablamos de ese hard rock moderno, pegadizo, absolutamente bien producido y que en la escuela sueca ha alcanzado sus cotas más elevadas a través de ellos y otro buen puñado de bandas. Se trata de un sonido absolutamente diseñado en ese nicho sonoro del hard rock pero con una poderosa producción que vigoriza el concepto también reforzado con ese corito muy hard ´n heavy. Asterise - Drifting into Darkness - Canciones Para Una Vida

DRIFTING  INTO  DARKNESS

Asterise, banda greco polaca, parece haber comenzado con buen pie su carrera musical iniciada allá por 2018 y que ha dado ya dos frutos en forma de LP, "Two worlds"  de 2022 y "Tale of a wandering soul" de 2024. Enmarcar su sonido es hacerlo en el power de corte europeo en un concepto muy "sueco" digamos, todo un piropo a mi entender, con un toque un tanto neoclásico en ocasiones. Silent Winter - Utopia - Canciones Para Una Vida

UTOPIA

Hagamos un nuevo asalto a la cada vez más fiable escena griega para reconocer en esta otra banda el excelente estado de salud de la citada escena. Son Silent Winter, un grupo formado en 1995 pero reactivado en 2018 fecha en la que comienzan a publicar material de estudio más allá de las demos iniciales de su carrera. The Storyteller - Tower Of Fear - Canciones Para Una Vida

TOWER  OF  FEAR

¿Por qué toda una década de silencio de este grupo?. Los suecos "The Storyteller" son una de esas bandas veteranas, (comenzaron allá por 1995), y desde el comienzo de su carrera llamaron la atención de muchos con su propuesta power neoclásica de extraordinaria calidad. El inicio de su carrera fue muy constante desde la publicación de su primera obra, y así entre 2000 y 2005 publican cuatro LP's que hacían presagiar una carrera que les podría llevar a la cima, pero en 2006 el grupo lo deja para retomar su actividad en 2011. Desde ese momento solo han publicado otros tres LP's de estudio si incluimos este "The fina Stand" de 2025 que llega tras una década de silencio compositivo desde su anterior obra, y siempre es lo mismo, cada disco fiel a su propuesta, lleno de calidad, habla de un grupo que podría llegar casi donde quisiera pero parece quedarse en un injusto a mi parecer, segundo plano respecto a otras bandas para nada mejores. Hoy quiero rescatar de este último trabajo otra de las canciones que lo componen, en concreto "Tower of fear" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Haunter - Before The Storm - Canciones Para Una Vida

BEFORE  THE  STORM

La escena brasileña sigue sacando bandas, (de todo tipo, interesantes como estos Haunter y otras digamos menos), la tradición del power brasileño se remonta a los inevitables Angra noventeros y Viper antes que ellos, y siempre marcaron la escena del país en ese sentido (power). Bien pudiesen los germanos Blind Guardian, haber esgrimido esa afirmación "I'm Alive" en aquel ya lejano 1995, para erigirse en uno de los adalides del por entonces en horas bajas heavy metal como tal, siendo uno de los defensores del concepto, un tanto powerizado eso sí, en la década de los noventa. Leverage - All Seeing Eye - Canciones Para Una Vida

ALL  SEEING  EYE

Los finlandeses Leverage son uno de esos grupos que parecen luchar contra todo, teniendo de su parte la absolutamente rotunda calidad que han demostrado a lo largo de toda su carrera, sin embargo es uno de esos grupos ya longevos (desde 2002), que primero por unos motivos, como el hecho de compartir alineación con sus compatriotas finlandeses Brother firetribe, lo que les hizo espaciar demasiado los discos, además de compartir sus esfuerzos compositivos e interpretativos entre ambos grupos, y tras la escisión definitiva de ambas bandas, a las que sin ser fácil ambas sobrevivieron con notable acierto, y al haber cogido cierta inercia en su carrera actual, Leverage se ha tenido que enfrentar a un nuevo cambio de vocalista para su última obra, además por el motivo más triste e irresoluble posible, la muerte por cáncer de su magnifico cantante Kimmo Blom (2022) poco después de la salida de su magnífico "above the beyond" de 2021. Tres años después demuestran de nuevo su fuerza y determinación con su sexto album de estudio "Gravity", que el próximo 20 de junio verá la luz de forma oficial, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su adelanto "All seeing eye" que demuestra dos cosas, que la banda no ha perdido su capacidad compositiva y que además han encontrado un gran reemplazo en el puesto de cantante una vez más, dejo un enlace a youtube de este "All seeing eye".

NATURAL  THING

Nuevo repaso al nacimiento del heavy metal hoy a través de nuevo de una de esas bandas cuya influencia ha sido reconocida por un buen puñado de nombres fundamentales dentro de nuestra escena, Steve Harris, Kirk Hammet, Dave Mustaine o Joey Tempest entre otros han reconocido lo fundamental de su influjo para su desarrollo futuro como músicos. En 1976 los británicos UFO editaban su quinto LP de estudio "No heavy petting", donde volvían a poner de manifiesto ese sonido característico a mitad de camino del hard rock de la época, el y el heavy metal de la casi incipiente NWOBHM. SONS  OF  THE  STORM

Vamos con una banda relativamente nueva, y utilizo lo de nueva no tanto por su año de formación, que se remonta ya a 2016, como por haber en todo este tiempo, publicado solo dos LP's de estudio, (2019 y 2024), eso sí, desde luego han mostrado calidad reconocida internacionalmente desde el primer momento de su carrera. formados en Alemania en 2016 como decía más arriba, su sonido es un heavy power, que recurre a las fórmulas de ambos géneros con acierto compositivo y cierta facilidad en la escucha para todos los públicos, es otra banda que si hace bien las cosas subirá a nivel global en los próximos años, sobre todo si se toman menos tiempo entre obras en este mundo actual tan inmediato que hace muy difícil que nada que no este a la vista permanezca en la memoria de la mayoría. Running Wild - Soulless - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

SOULLESS

Siempre es un gustazo echar la vista atrás y asomarse, si hace mucho tiempo que no lo haces, a alguno de tus grupos preferidos de siempre y ya de paso a alguno de tus albumes favoritos, en mi caso los germanos Running Wild siempre estuvieron entre mis bandas preferidas y este album de 1994, "Black hand inn" es una de mis obras necesarias, fundamentales e importantes. Es además uno de esos discos que a contracorriente supo mantener el heavy metal como estandarte en esos momentos de cambio en que el sonido metálico se diversificaba huyendo del heavy clásico. Pat Travers - Running From The Future - Canciones Para Una Vida

RUNNING  FROM  THE  FUTURE

Vamos con una pieza más del puzzle inicial de nuestro sonido, un gran rompecabezas de muchos orígenes que terminaría en su conjunto dando forma al sonido heavy metal, en este caso desde ese reverso más hard rock hablamos del guitarrista canadiense Pat Travers, que puso su granito de arena en la década de los setenta para nuestro sonido. Habiendo trabajado con nombres como Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden Batería) o Tommy Aldridge (Ozzy Osbourne, Thin Lizzy o Whitesnake Batería), como nombres más famosos vemos que el calado del músico tiene mucha profundidad y así, entre 1976 y 2019 ha editado más de veinticinco LP's de estudio. De su tercer trabajo "Putting It Straight", la segunda obra que publica durante 1977, quiero dejar en el blog hoy su canción "Running from the future", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Battle Born - One On One - Canciones Para Una Vida

ONE  ON  ONE

Nuevo single a la vista para la banda británica de power metal Battle Born, que en 2023 sacase su debut en formato LP con su disco "Blood fire magic and steel", el título de la obra da muchas pistas de sus intenciones compositivas, y es que estamos ante un prototípico ejemplo de lo que es el euro power. Apocrypha - Holy Wars - Canciones Para Una Vida

HOLY  WARS

La banda estadounidense Apocrypha, fue un grupo formado en 1987 y disuelta en 1991, y a pesar de su breve periodo de existencia dejaron buena muestra de su potencial en tres albumes de estudio con un sonido a medio camino entre el heavy metal clásico y el thrash metal. podríamos pensar que esa es la definición del Speed metal, pero en este caso yo diría que no se trata de speed metal en sí, es más bien un heavy clásicote con elementos thrash. En el mismo año de su formación publican su debut "The forgotten scroll", lleno de energía, melodía y fuerza, de este album dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Holy wars" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Power Surge - Carry On - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

CARRY  ON

Otra banda de nueva creación, con la vista puesta en el concepto clásico de heavy metal pero como digo formados en 2024, son los Serbio croata británicos "Power Surge", una banda internacional que en este 2025 ha publicado el pasado 2 de mayo su debut "Shadows Warning". De momento está claro que no es uno de esos grupos que vayan a revolucionar nada, pero hacen su propuesta que gustará a todos los seguidores de los conceptos clásicos. De su primer LP dejo hoy en el blog su canción "Carry On", una versión de la banda Warriors para la que cuentan con la colaboración en voces y guitarra de la banda serbia Claymorean, tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Stratovarius - Will The Sun Rise - Canciones Para Una Vida

WILL  THE  SUN  RISE

Vamos con una obra clásica de una banda de las también clásicas dentro del power, se trata de los finlandeses Stratovarius y su "Episode", a mi parecer uno de sus mejores discos que sin duda alguna forman parte de la banda sonora de mi vida. Corría el año 1996, el heavy metal se había diversificado y como tal casi extinguido en su vertiente más clásica, y esos primeros años de los 90 sobre todo el power metal vino a llenar ese hueco compositivo en muchos metalheads, para ese año 1996, Stratovarius ya se había hecho con un nombre que con esta obra terminaría de encumbrar para hacerse una de las cabezas visibles del por entonces aún incipiente euro power caracterizado por esa cuidada producción y todos los demás atributos que nunca ha dejado de tener. De esta obra puede destacarse casi todo, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus singles más icónicos, "Will the sun rise", temazo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Segundo adelanto del quinto LP de estudio de la banda internacional Warkings, un proyecto cada vez menos proyecto y cada vez más estable como banda a tiempo completo como queda patente en estos siete años de actividad. Otra de las grandes bandas actuales mueve ficha en estos días presentando un nuevo single que puede ser el preludio de un nuevo album del que todavía no tengo noticia, se trata de los finlandeses Battle Beast y de su single "Last Goodbye", una vez más un tema con el sello de la banda que parece haber encontrado la senda del éxito y han decidido continuar por ella sin torcerse en su propuesta, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

John Norum - Love Is Meant (To Last Forever) - Canciones Para Una Vida

 

LOVE  IS  MEANT  (TO  LAS  FOREVER)

Hablemos ahora de otra de esas circunstacias que en esto de la música, (más acusadamente si cabe dentro del mundillo heavy), ocurren con frecuencia, en ocasiones para bien y en otras no tanto, que es el hecho de relacionar a un nombre con otro (en este caso John Norum y la banda Europe), lo que injustamente lastra digamos al más vulnerable de los dos para el resto de su existencia.En este caso el enorme nombre de Europe, sobre todo en los ochenta, arrastraba por completo todo lo demás que pudiese nacer a su alrededor, como la carrera en solitario de John Norum, quien haciendo una apuesta más guitarrera era siempre tildado como el guitarrista de Europe, grupo dentro del heavy metal en general menospreciado por muchos, sobre todo publicamente, a pesar de la calidad de la banda, pero el éxito que en este caso concreto fue más allá de los géneros musicales, fue global, no era algo que un metalhead de la época pudiera asumir de buen grado, y el bueno de John Norum pudo pagar ese peaje, incluso a pesar de la calidad de su trabajo en solitario. Ocho discos de estudio conforman su discografía a fecha de esta reseña, y mirando hacia atrás quiero hoy rescatar su debut en solitario, "Total control" de 1987, sacado solo un año después del celebre "The final countdown" de Europe, lo que agudizó más el argumentario de más arriba. A pesar de todo se juntá en lo vocal nada menos que con Goran Edman, cantante con mayúsculas para parir una obra mucho más que interesante con temas como este "Love Is Meant (To last forever)" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Malice - Against The Empire - Canciones Para Una Vida

AGAINST  THE  EMPIRE

Vamos con otra de esas historias de la segunda fila del heavy metal, una de las que a juzgar por los méritos y potencial podrían sin duda haber formado parte de la primera división de las bandas internacionales, pero siempre hay, ha habido y habrá factores más allá de lo estrictamente musical que marcan a las bandas más incluso que lo musical, una vez más una pena. Este es el caso de los estadounidenses Malice, la enésima banda ochentera ahogada en el maremagnum de grupos que abarrotaban la escena musical de la época, la historia una vez más de lo que pudo ser y se quedó solo en una fracción. Malice comienza su andadura en 1980 y es otro de esos grupos que lo intentó en varias épocas y con varios nombres para terminar dejando auténticas perlas pero una carrera prematuramente terminada. En 1985 sacan su debut "In the beginnig", enrome disco de presentación del que ya he dejado algún tema en el blog, al que seguiría este "Licence to kill" en 1987, y del que hoy quiero dejar un tema, digno sucesor y en algunos aspectos superior, como en cuestiones productivas. Con él alcanzarían mayores cotas de popularidad que les llevaría a girar por Europa, atendiendo a la circunstancia de que se equivocaron quizá de banda con la que girar ya que su estilo no se correspondía al thrash agresivo y extremo de sus teloneados, Slayer, y el público reunido en el evento no asumió el hecho con buenos ojos, injustisimamente para Malice. En 1989 editan un EP mucho más hard 'n heavy lo que será el remate de la banda. Luego cambios de nombre, una reactivación en 2006 que duraría 10 años y que dejaría como fruto un tercer LP en 2012 con guitarrista y bajista como únicos miembros originales de la banda. En definitiva, otra historia de lo que pudo ser pero no fue. Dejo hoy en el blog el tema "Against the empire" de su segundo album, "Licence to kill", nadie puede negar el potencial para haber llegado bien alto.
