Con tan solo una pequeña pincelada de su capacidad compositiva, es una auténtica pena que la banda holandesa "Stailinn Drakk" haya dejado en pausa su proyecto con un único EP editado en esa clave de power sinfónico de corte absolutamente europeo. Sin apoyo discográfico esperemos que tan solo estén cogiendo energía para dar un nuevo paso compositivo y comenzar realmente su carrera pues a juzgar por su debut de 2016, como digo en formato EP, "Raise your sword!", podrían llegar a dar mucha guerra. Canciones para una vida - High Tension - Kings And Queens

 

KINGS  AND  QUEENS

Si eres de los que gustan del sonido ochentero germano, concretamente seguidor de los por entonces enormes Accept con respecto a lo que tenían alrededor en su escena natal, entonces te gustará "High Tension", quienes sin caer en la clonación del sonido de aquellos, y añadiendo otros elementos usados también por otros como Krokus o Victory, desarrollaron su carrera, principalmente en la insuperable década de los 80, dejando un total de cinco LP's de estudio de heavy metal de la old school. 1987 ponía punto final a esa época más activa y acertada compositivamente de la banda a través de su tercer LP "Masters of madness", una obra muy en consonancia a lo que habían estado haciendo y que podría haber presagiado que la banda iba a llegar bien alto, algo que realmente en lo que a reconocimiento y ventas se refiere nunca conseguirían, lo de los méritos musicales es ya otra cuestión. Canciones para una vida - Bathory - Through Blood By Thunder

 

THROUGH  BLOOD  BY THUNDER

Para la época de este disco, 1991, la propuesta sonora de Bathory seguía siendo muy innovadora, única practicamente, y por lo tanto absolutamente minoritaria y poco comprendida diría yo, pero ya se trataba, con este "Twilight of the gods" de su sexto LP de estudio, y en muchas escenas sobre todo nórdicas, había creado escuela y futuros grupos del norte, y posteriormente de casi cualquier lado, seguirían la senda que Quorthon había iniciado. Por encima de todo lo demás las atmósfera inconfundibes aplicadas por este músico en sus obras son su sello personal, la forma vocal y la longitud de sus temas son además casi regla en este concepto personal compositivo tan imitado posteriormente. Canciones para una vida - Motley Crue - Bastard

 

BASTARD

Hablemos hoy de la vertiente americana de los clásicos de toda la vida, de ese tipo de benadas que han alcanzado un nivel mitologico superior y han sido indudable influencia sobre otras bandas, uno de esos grupos que suenan a gentes del metal al igual que a otros ajenos a él, se trata de Motley Crue, la banda angelina que para muchos fue pionera y precursora del sonido glam, aunque en sus inicios fuese un grupo que bordeaba el hard 'n heavy del que tantas veces he hablado en el blog y que tanto disfruto al tener elementos de ambos subgéneros, el hard rock y el heavy metal, que tantas bandas dió en la dorada década de los ochenta. Hoy quiero volver la mirada a sus comienzos, los que marcaron tanto su auge, los momentos más rockeros, más metálicos, más heavys en definitiva, sus primeros dos LP's, entre 1981 y 1983, y concretamente su segundo esfuerzo compositivo, "Shout At The devil" de 1983, disco del que hoy dejo en el blog el tema "Bastard", del que dejo un enlace a Youtube.

WE  BECOME  ONE

Fastway es una de esas bandas que en los ochenta bordearon más de una vez el límite en ocasiones difuso entre el hard rock y el heavy metal, aunque se decantaron más en general por el primero de ambos géneros, y se trata además de una de esas bandas creadas a partir de la union de exmiembros de otras, en este caso Eddie Clarke "Fast", guitarrista ex de Motorhead y el bajista Pete Way, ex de UFO, el nombre de la banda queda pues evidenciado juntando el apodo de uno con el apellido de otro. Curiosamente Pete Way aparece en los créditos de la obra cuando en realidad desde el inicio dejó el proyecto al darle el destino la oportunidad de tocar con Ozzy. La banda se ha mantenido en activo hasta 2018 a través de tres épocas, la más genuina la primera, (como suele suceder en estos casos), entre 1982 y 1991, en la que editan seis de sus siete LP's de estudio, el primero de ellos de 1983, "Fastway" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas más cercanos al heavy metal, "We become One", y del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Kinetic Dissent - Cults Of Unreason

 

CULTS  OF  UNREASON

Aunque tardío, en lo que se refiere al concepto hibrido a medio camino del heavy metal de corte clásico y el thrash metal, en 1991 "Kinetic Dissent" dejaban el único fruto de su carrera en forma de LP "I will fight no more forever". Tardío, ya que en lo que se refiere a ese concepto, un lustro antes o algo más las bandas, muchas de ellas alericanas como es el caso, había dado ese paso de una manera natural, y el resulado lógico sería, a comienzos casi de la década de los ochenta, el surgimiento del thrash como sonido propiamente dicho. Aún así, el ejercicio compositivo de esta banda es un gran ejemplo de esa evolución compositiva que llevaba de un género al otro, cambiando la velocidad y después simplificando a lo básico. El grupo no sacaría tras este trabajo ningún otro desapareciendo en 1992 tras solo cinco años de su formación. Canciones para una vida - Frozen Crown - Call Of The North

 

CALL  OF  THE  NORTH

Ya tenemos aquí los primeros ecos del cuarto LP de estudio de los italianos Frozen Crown, un disco que debe hacerles mantener al sus fieles e intentar atraer a nuevos seguidores después de que en 2020, tras su anterior trabajo, buena parte de la banda dejase la formación quedando solo la mente compositiva, guitarra y teclados Federico Mondelli, y la cabeza visible y cantante Giada "Jade" Etro. Ellos mismos han pretendido un album sin añadir invitados en palabras propias para "consolidar" el sonido de la banda. El caso es que el album verá la luz en el proximo mes de Marzo de 2023, y hoy dejo en el blog el primer single de la misma que es el que dará nombre a la obra, "Call of the north", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Sellsword - Sagaborne

 

SAGABORNE

Ya he traido al blog a estos británicos, "Sellsword", una banda que no deja de sorprender por lo desconocido y al tiempo la calidad, el potencial, el buen hacer de sus, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, dos únicas obras de estudio, "...And now we ride" de 2016 y "...Unto the breach" de 2019. Hablamos de una heavy metal muy bien ejecutado, con influjo tanto power, como no carente de una estructura técnica usada para partes instrumentales del death melódico, a pesar de escucharlo no deja uno de descubrir el buen gusto compositivo y el monumental talento para poder llegar muy arriba si lo hacen bien en el futuro, aunque deberán para futuros albumes sustituir la figura del cantante que en 2020 dejó la formación. Veremos por donde salen en su tercer LP. El tema es que sus dos primeras obras son absolutamente recomendables, y hoy dejo en el blog otro de los temas que componen el segundo de ellos, concretamente la canción "Sagaborne" de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Arch Enemy - The Watcher

 

THE  WATCHER

Volver a Arch Enemy es siempre un gustazo, sobre todo en los últimos años en los que, como sucede con otras bandas tipo Amorphis, cada material publicado es sinónimo de éxito, seguro de calidad, y este "Deceivers" es una mustra perfecta de lo que digo. Siempre bañados por la etiqueta de sonido extremo, si uno va más allá de clichés se da cuenta de que el sonido heavy metal está muy presente en este grupo, y particularmente diría yo en esta obra. El tema es que la portentosa voz, agresiva y contundente de Alissa, más allá de su imagen y capacidad para atraer los focos también desde lo fisico, puede eclipsar otras facetas de una banda que siempre cuida los detalles desde el punto de vista musical y compositivo. Obra muy completa este "Deceivers" de este 2022, cuyos temas rayan a gran altura pero sobre todo de manera homogénea, quizá no sean tres o cuatro de un 10, pero si son todos dignos de un notable, algo que es siempre a la larga más deseable. Canciones para una vida - Morton - Grand Awakening

 

GRAND  AWAKENING

Mucho tiempo se ha tomado la banda Morton para dar continuidad a su debut, o lo que viene a ser lo mismo ha tardado mucho tiempo en editar un nuevo trabajo el bueno de Max Morton, cantante, guitarrista y principal compositor e impulsor ucarniano del proyecto que lleva su nombre ya que desde 2011 en que editase su primer LP "Come read the words forgotten" no había dado el paso hacia su continuación que en este 2022 ha visto la luz bajo el título de "Horror of Daniel Wagner". Digamos que su sonido no es de factura sencilla, sin llegar a caer en una fórmula de costuras estrechas va tomando elementos varios desde el power al concepto progresivo sin llegar a caer en ninguno de ellos y en todas al mismo tiempo. Lo que siempre esgrime sin lugar a dudas es una calidad compositiva e incluso productiva fuera de duda. En este segundo trabajo en formato LP nos presenta una obra conceptual que da una variada muestra de su gusto compositivo, y de ella hoy quiero dejar en el blog el tema que cierra la obra, "Grand Awakening", el más largo del disco y que sirve bien como escaparate de su potencial y de sus elementos recurrentes, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Crom - Higher Ground

 

HIGHER  GROUND

El cuarto disco de estudio de los germanos "Crom" ya está mostrando sus primeros secretos, y esperamos su salida oficial a la venta este próximo mes de enero de 2023. Parece ser que la banda va acortando los tiempos de composición, para, perpetuados en su concepto musical, dar una mayor continuidad a una carrera que desde su magnifico debut de 2008 llevo siguiendo con gran interés. Además el EP de 2021 ha servido para subrayar esa sensación de banda más al uso, tener menos la sensación de que iba a ser un grupo más desaparecido más pronto que tarde. Canciones para una vida - King Diamond - The Portrait

 

THE  PORTRAIT

Tras la separación de la banda "Mercyful Fate" por vez primera en 1985, el bueno de King Diamond decide dar continuidad a su concepto musical bajo su propio nombre, comenzando así "King Diamond" la banda su camino musical. Desde kuego todas las miradas de los fans de Mercyful Fate se clavaban en King Diamond, para ver los derroteros musicales que tomaba, pero estamos hablando de músicos de gran calidad, la historia no podía pues mostrar otra cosa que esa citada calidad. El asunto para muchos con esta banda está centrado más allá de lo estrictamente compositivo, más bien en lo interpretativo a nivel vocal, y es que Kim Bendix Petersen que es el veradadero nombre de King Diamond tiene ese tono "falsete" tan característico que le hace sensible tanto al reconocimiento automático de su estilo como a los prejuicios si no es del agrado del oyente, si a eso le añadimos el aura oscuro que ha rodeado siempre a la banda por sus temáticas de terror, se puede facilmente juzgar a la banda por algo más allá de su música siempre, música que por otra parte siempre me ha parecido adelantada a su época, desde el punto de vista de mezcla de ideas como desde la misma producción. Como decía al inicio, tras la separación inicial de Mercyful Fate, kind Diamond ataca con su proyecto personal bajo su nombre editando en 1986 el debut, "Fatal Portrait", disco semi temático del que hoy dejo en el blog su tema "The Portrait" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Storm Seeker - Heavaway

 

HEAVAWAY

Poco a poco, casi sin hacer ruido, la banda alemana "Storm Seeker" va dando pasos adelante en su carrera y, a punto de cumplir una década de existencia, en estos días muestran el primer adelanto del que será su tercer LP de estudio, "Nautic Force" que espera su publicación para el mes de abril del inminente ya 2023. Realmente podría incluso considerarse como su cuarto LP si consideramos como tal al album de versiones propias "Calm Seas Vol 1". Sea como fuere se ve que la banda va en franco crecimiento, y van haciendose un hueco y un nombre apoyandose en un buen hacer obra tras obra. Han encontrado un filón en la temática marítima, y con ella siguen en "nautic Force" aparentemente. Dejo en el blog su clip oficial de su primer single de adelanto, "Heavaway".

Canciones para una vida - Leatherwolf - Enslaved

 

ENSLAVED

Otra banda clásica, una vez más marcada a partes iguales por la calidad y la poca constancia o continuidad que les nego alcanzar cotas más elevadas de éxito. Procedentes de la escena estadounidense, desarrollaron la primera parte y más exitosa de su carrera en la década de los ochenta, (1981-1991) editando en ese periodo 3 LP's y un EP. Hablamos de un sonido heavy metal - hard n' heavy, de clara excuela americana que les hizo destacar con algunos éxitos concretos, pero nada como para hacerles demasiado conocidos en su momento. Después, separación, resurgimiento intermitente, y ahora una nueva entrega, 15 años después de su anterior LP de 2007, con una formación casi al completo reestructurada ya que solo el batería Dean Roberts permanece desde el comienzo. Este nuevo LP, "Kill the hunted", ha visto la,luz el pasado 11 de noviembre y supone su sexto LP de estudio. Vemos a grandes rasgos una continuidad de concepto en lo que a la escuela americana se refiere y un cierto aumento de agresividad compositiva como en el tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "Enslaved" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Elvenking - Rapture

 

RAPTURE

 Con la eterna sensación que tengo con esta banda, ambivalente, por una parte de cierto aburrimiento basado sobre todo en la parte más reciente de su carrera, monotonía, que me hace casi imposible la escucha de uno de sus últimos disco seguido, y por otra el descubrimiento de alguna canción concreta que me devuelve la ilusión con la que los descubrí en su debut, allá por 2001, pero claro, es que con "Heathenreel" estamos ante palabras mayores, sobre todo para un debut, y ese punto de atracción me duró buena parte de su carrera inicial, sobre todo en sus tres LP's iniciales, luego eso, altibajos, ultimamente más bajos. Pero el caso es que sigo acudiendo a la cita con sus obras nuevas, con esa esperanza que suele diluirse, y este nuevo disco a partes iguales me da esa sensación de esperanza y resignación, veremos. El primer adelanto del nuevo disco, "Reader of the runes - Rapture", que verá la luz de forma oficial en abril de 2023, el undécimo de la discografía de la banda, el segundo de la trilogía que van crear en formato temático, se titula "Rapture" y de él dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

SPEARS  OF  THE  EMPIRE

Parece evidente que la banda estado unidense "Glacier" ha tomado en serio su regreso que efectuaron a nivel compositivo el pasado 2020 tras 35 años de silencio desde que editaran su único material de estudio hasta ese momento en forma de EP "Glacier", que con los años ha recibido mucho reconocimiento en el mundillo y siempre despertó muchas expectativas de una continuación que sin duda se ha hecho esperar demasiado. El primer LP "The passing of time" cumplio muy bien con dichas expectativas y ahora, en este 2022, editan un nuevo EP con dos temas, "Spears of the empire", que esperemos sea solo el preludio de un nuevo LP. Desde luego nunca es tarde para retomar las cosas buenas, y "Glacier" siempre dejaron clara su calidad. Dejo hoy un enlace a youtube del tema que da nombre a este nuevo EP.

WIELDING  IRON  FISTS

Ejemplo prototípico de muchas cosa estos yankees "Liege Lord", ejemplo de lo que digo muchos días con bandas de este pelo y esta época, banda honesta, con breve periodo de existencia pero con obras tan buenas como poco reconocidas, ejemplo igualmente de actitud, de como plasmar una idea de heavy metal sin que nadie les pueda reprochar gran cosa, ejemplo de banda que solo supo ir a mejor hasta que, supongo que cansados de no recibir lo merecido deciden darse por vencidos y dejar de publicar material tan solo un lustro después de haberse decidido a editar material propio, (antes eran una banda tributo de Judas bajo el nombre de "Deceiver"), pero en ese breve periodo de actividad tres obras les conteplaron. La primera de ellas "Freedom's Rise", de 1985, donde dejaban bien claras sus intenciones, que mantuvieron durante su vida ochentera, e incrementaron como ya he mencionado en intensidad, calidad y buen hacer general. Hoy dejo el tema que abre su debut, "Welding iron fists", buen ejemplo de su planteamiento, y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Darxon - Stormbringer

 

STORMBRINGER

Nuevo caso de banda ochentera, en esta ocasión de origen germano,de esas que desarrollaron una carrera breve, enmarcada en heavy metal de la vieja escuela, publicando sus obras entre la segunda mitad de los ochenta y comienzos de los 90. Su actividad se desarrolla entre 1983 y 1992, editando 3 LP's y un EP, para desaparecer como banda. Tuvieron un timido resurgir bajo otro nombre "Noxrad" en 2006, pero desconozco que hayan editado material bajo ese nombre. Como digo heavy metal sin excesos ni adornos, muy de la época. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un ejemplo de su sonido perteneciente al disco "Killed In Action" de 1984, el primero de los que editaron, y de dicha obra dejo la canción "Stormbringer" que la cierra, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - All For Metal - All For Metal

 

ALL  FOR  METAL

Es también un recurso ya manido el de que una discográfica cree una superbanda uniendo a algunas figuras de las bandas a las que tiene bajo su sello, pudiendo así dirigir desde una perspectiva de marketing completamente el destino de dicho proyecto tratando de llenar hipotéticos huecos en el mercado, y con la excusa de la calidad que suele ser cierta, apuntar a los beneficios de posibles ventas. En este caso la discográfica en cuestión es AFM y la banda "All for metal", banda italo germana que trata de explotar el nicho de doble vocalista y estilos power y death melódico en lo vocal más que otra cosa, que aunque nada ya tiene de original, sigue siendo resultón. Este proyecto ha visto la luz en este 2022, y han sondeado el mercado de momento con dos singles, el primero de ellos homónimo al nombre de la banda, "All for metal", y del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Brothers Of Metal - Berserkir

 

BERSERKIR

Es innegable la pegada de la banda sueca "Brothers of metal", grupo que en el breve aún periodo de tiempo de existencia que tiene ha conseguido ya volver las miradas del gran público con cada paso que dan adelante en su carrera. Solo dos LP's han bastado, y así, desde 2017 en que debutaron compositivamente, 2023 parece destinado a ver la publicación de su tercer LP que debería ser el de su consolidación definitiva y del que aún al menos yo no tengo noticia de fecha o título. De lo que si han dejado constancia es de un segundo single en este 2022, "Berserkir" que presumiblemente debería formar parte de ese hipotético tercer LP, canción de la que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Buzzard - We Are Heavy Rockers

 

WE  ARE  HEAVY  ROCKERS

Buzzard fue un grupo belga que desarrollo su carrera, breve, entre los años 1981 y 1985, editando en ese periodo un único LP de estudio, "Gambler". Su sonido se movía en un heavy metal de la old school un tanto acelerado, no se si hasta el punto de incluirlo como speed metal. Como tantas bandas de aquella época apenas llegó a despuntar antes de hundirse en el olvido, mostrando una pincelada de lo que la animada y desconocida cantera belga era capaz de ofrecer, ya que muchos grupos en esos años salían de dicha escena aunque pocas llergaron a tener repercusión internacional. Tampoco es que fuese una obra para cambiar nada, pero es buen ejemplo una vez más de lo honesto del planteamiento de esa época, y de la cantidad de bandas ocultas al gran público  que hubo en los ochenta. De este su único LP de 1984, "Gabler" quiero hoy dejar en el blog el tema "We are heavy rockers" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Carrie - Heroes Never Return

 

HEROES  NEVER  RETURN

La segunda mitad de la década de los ochenta estaba grandemente ya influida por las corrientes nuevas que se imponían, y así, bandas que hubieran encontrado su nicho sonoro un lustro antes en un heavy metal old school, flirteaban en ese momento con sonidos que se acercaban o al Hard Rock americanizado o al thrash metal. Carrie, la banda germana a la que hoy me refiero, tiró más hacia ese citado hard 'n heavy. Como particularidad, este sexteto contaba en sus filas con dos mujeres, voz y teclados, y su breve historia, (desde 1983 hasta 1986) dejo como fruto un solo LP, "Secrets" de 1986, para separarse y perderse en las arenas del tiempo en completo anonimato, otro grupo que quedó en el olvido sin apenas despuntar, y no es que les faltasen cualidades ajuzgar por su único material del que hoy dejo la canción, "Heroes never return".
