INTO BATTLE
Otra banda de
la old school ochentera, en esta ocasión provenientes de Estados Unidos,
y con un concepto musical épico, se trata de "Brocas Helm". Esta banda
fue fundada en San Francisco en 1982 por Bobbie
Wright (Guitarrista y Cantante), James Schumacher (Bajista), Jack Hays
(Batería) y John Grey (Guitarrista). El grupo graba su primera demo en
1983 lo que les brinda la ocasión de firmar por "First Strike records"
para Estados Unidos y "Steamhammer" para Europa. Graban su primer
material oficial en 1984, su obra "Into Battle", pero casi enseguida
comienzan los problemas con la discográfica, y de mutuo acuerdo llegan a
la disolución de su contrato de mutuo acuerdo. Esto marcaría creo yo su
carrera pues ya no conseguirían otro contrato apropiado lo que les
lastraría en su futuro a pesar de tan prometedor comienzo y de la
absolutamente innegable calidad de la banda, innovadora como pocas para
la época. En ese mismo 1984 John Grey deja la banda, y el resto de
compañeros, tras buscar un nuevo sello discográfico que les produjese su
siguiente disco, y no encontrar nada apropiado deciden autoproducirse
su segunda obra, "Black Death", en 1988. El disco es fantástico pero las
cosas no terminan de mejorar para el grupo. Sin encontrar apoyo
discográfico se vuelven a autoproducir su siguiente material, un EP en
esta ocasión " Ghost Story" de 1994, seguido de dos singles en 1997 y
1999. Y es así como parece estar condenada la carrera de esta banda a
desarrollarse, pues en 2004 se autoeditan su último material de estudio
hasta la fecha de esta reseña, "Defender of the crown", pero a pesar de
ello la banda sigue en activo peleando por demostrar que no se
equivocaban al apostar por ellos mismos, y, efectivamente yo creo que su
concepto era adecuado, quizá muy novedoso para la época y además
lastrado por una producción no todo lo buena que debería haber sido con
apoyo económico, así como no poder desarrollar una campaña de marketing
que les pusiera en el mapa les condenó a un anonimato que su talento no
merecía, otra historia más de heavy metal de calidad enterrado en el mar
de anónimas bandas, sobre todo ochenteras que proliferaban en aquellos
magníficos años para la música. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de
su debut, "Into Battle" de 1984, concretamente el tema que da título al disco, un temazo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
