MONTECRISTO

Nuevo LP de estudio a la vista por parte de los italianos "Great Master", el que supondrá el sexto de su discografía y cuya salida oficial se espera para el 21 de septiembre. Llevará por título "Montecristo" y debería estar destinado a confirmar el camino en ascenso de los últimos discos de la banda que lleva en activo desde 1993, aunque no comenzasen a editar material hasta 2009, con el citado salto de calidad en mi opinión desde 2016 en adelante. El primero de los adelantos del nuevo disco lleva el nombre de la obra, "Montecristo" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Raven Banner - Beware The Fury

 

BEWARE  THE  FURY

Los suecos "Raven Banner" son una banda de reciente formación a pesar de que la componen músicos experimentados procedentes de otras bandas y proyectos. Fijando su mirada en las bandas nórdicas que afloraron en la primera década de este siglo, su sonido bebe del death melódico así como de ese componente épico con líricas vikingas tan apropiadas a su origen.Se forman en 2021 y de momento tan solo han editado un único LP, "Rise up clan" de este 2023. cuya salida oficial se espara para el primero de septiembre. Canciones para una vida - Blazon Rite - Autumn Fear Brings Winter Doom

 

AUTUMN  FEAR  BRINGS  WINTER  DOOM

 

2023 ha sido el año escogido por los estadounidenses "Blazon Rite" para continuar su historia musical personal a través de su segundo LP "Wild rites and ancient songs" que ha visto la luz de forma oficial el pasado mes de abril. Como ya nos dejaron claro en el anterior LP, el grupo se nutre de la tradición power épica de su escena natal clásica, es un concepto diferente al del europower, con canciones que uno debe trabajar más a la hora de la escucha para sacar todo el jugo, un poco en la onda de sus compatriotas "Visigoth" por ejemplo, en terminos de bandas actuales, o con el espejo clásico de los "Cirith Ungol" y similares. El caso es que la banda parece haber trazado su camino en esa dirección y este segundo album es una confirmación de ello. Canciones para una vida - Dragonheart - The Devil Is By My Side

 

THE  DEVIL  IS  BY  MY  SIDE

 De vuelta a estos veteranos brasileños que en este 2023 editarán su quinto LP de estudio "The dragonheart's tales", que verá la luz en este mismo mes de agosto. Formados a finales de los 90, iniciaron su carrera al calor del abundante power metal épico, fantástico que tanto abundase en esos años, y con una primera parte de su carrera en la que concentraron tres de sus obras hasta 2005, prometían dar que hablar si seguían insistiendo, lo que pasa es que ralentizaron enormemente su producción musical, pasando luego una década entera hasta que editaran su cuarto LP. Después ha pasado casi otra década hasta su nueva continuación, lo que sin duda lastra mucho a una banda al margen de su calidad. Canciones para una vida - Unchained - Queen Of The Night

 

QUEEN  OF  THE  NIGHT

Dentro del recurrente montón de bandas que editaron en los ochenta un material muy limitado hay algunas de ellas que se limitaron a solo un par o dos de canciones, bandas que no supieron o no pudieron promocionarse teniendo que ceder en su intento demasiado prematuramente, sobre todo en los casos en los que la calidad y el potencial les era favorable. Hoy quiero rescatar a otra de esas bandas que cumplen las premisas planteadas, los suecos "Unchained" que se forman en 1984 para dejarlo cuatro años de pués, habiendo publicado tan solo un single en 1987, "Queeb of the night" al que se podría añadir una demo un año antes que incluye un totals de tres temas, dos de ellos diferentes a los dos que se incluyen en este citado single en clave de heavy metal melódico. Canciones para una vida - Ariel - Take Hold

 

TAKE  HOLD

Otro ejemplo de banda que intentó su carrera a mitad de la década de los ochenta, en este caso procedentes de la escuela canadiense, en un estilo que solo un poco rozó el heavy metal, cayendo más cerca de hard rock con algunos conceptos del rock clásico. Es igualmente una de esas bandas que editaron un solo LP de título igual al nombre de la banda en 1986, de temática lírica cristiana, y en el que se alternaban las voces masculina y femenina. Sin resultar ser una banda que hubiese inventado nada nuevo, si que realizaba un sonido interesante del que se pueden destacar buenos momentos como por ejemplo este "Take Hold" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Theocracy - Return To Dust

 

RETURN  TO  DUST

Otra de las bandas a las que acudo sin dudarlo un instante ante cualquier nueva propuesta son los estadounidenses "Theocracy", un grupo que lleva una larga trayectoria a sus espaldas ya que formaron en 2002, aunque a nivel de obras editadas solo cuentan con cuatro LP's editados, a fecha de esta reseña y el quinto que verá la luz en este mismo 2023, (para mitad de octubre), y del que empiezan a llegar muestras a través de su primer adelanto, "Return to dust" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Victorius - Katana Kingdom Rising

 

KATANA  KINGDOM  RISING

Los germanos Victorius siguen con paso firme su carrera, poco a poco con un objetivo más claro, más específico, sobre todo en su concepto creativo en la parte lírica, también en la estilística pero este giro se ha notado menos ya que desde el comienzo han escogido el marco del europower para sus discos, solo que han pasado de un concepto más clásico fantástico épico con las prototípicas escenas de batallas y demás, a un concepto más particular, casi de videojuego con ninjas y dinosaurios como seña de identidad. Como digo la identidad compositiva sigue siendo europower como queda patente en su último trabajo publicado a fecha de esta reseña, "Dinosaur warfare pt. II", del pasado 2022, en temas por ejemplo como "Katana Kingdom Rising", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Viking Queen - Warriors Last Stand

  

WARRIORS  LAST  STAND

Así, de entrada, por el nombre, origen (noruego), título de la obra y de los temas que la componen, casi de forma inevitable uno se puede hacer la idea del sonido típico de bandas nórdicas aen plan death folk melódico, o incluso power folk, pero estamos ante algo un poco diferente, se trata de un heavy metal con una influencia bastante clásica y que en ocasiones flirtea con el sondo hard rockero, o el hard 'n heavy. Volviendo al origen noruego, nos es en absoluto dificil caer en ese concepto oscuro de muchas de las bandas de esas tierras, pero como digo aquí el concepto es diferente. Viking Queen se forma en 2017, son músicos veteranos, y en 2022 editaron su debut, "Hammer of the gods", al que le ha seguido casi inmediatamente su segundo trabajo "Hail to the king", de este 2023 y que aún no he escuchado. Quiero hoy dejar pues uno de los temas de su debut, como digo de 2022, concretamente el tema que cierra la obra, "Warrior last stand", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Bloodgood - Self Destruction

 

SELF  DESTRUCTION

De vuelta a la escena estadounidense, a la década de los ochenta, al panorama del heavy metal clásico y a la temática cristiana, quiero hoy dejar un tema en el blog de Bloodgood, uno de esos grupos que desarrollaron su actividad principal en la citada década, aunque tuvieron un segundo periodo de actividad largocon el cambio de siglo aunque poco productivo en lo que a obras editadas. En total han editado en su periodo de actividad, (hasta el pasado 2022 coincidiendo con la muerte del bajista Michael bloodgood, principal motor impulsor de la banda) 7 LP's de estudio, casi todos concentrados en su primer periodo, (1984 - 1994) con cinco de los siete, los otros dos en 2013 y 2019 respectivamente. Hablamos como decía más arriba de heavy metal de la vieja escuela. En 1987 editaban su segundo LP de estudio, "Detonation", del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, "Self Destruction" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Cruachan - The Crow

 

THE  CROW

"The living and the dead", novena obra de estudio de los irlandeses Cruachan, parece ser uno de esos momentos de alta inspiración en su carrera, uno de los discos que más me han gustado de la banda, no solo de los más recientes, sino de toda su carrera. Es un hecho reconocido por la banda que los últimos años, con los temas pandémicos y personales, el grupo buscó y encontro un punto especial de motivación, de inspiración que a mi entender se nota en este última obra. Así pues, obra destacable, completa, fiel a su estilo típico, celtic folk metal de rasgos oscuros, pero con un plus. Canciones para una vida - Calico Jack - Broadside Attack

 

BROADSIDE  ATTACK

Vamos con un poco de folk metal de factura italiana, son "Calico Jack", un grupo que centra su sonido y sus letras en el universo corsario. Siempre al pensar en el termino Folk Metal, automáticamente uno se va hacia ese punto de mezcla en el que sobrevuela el concepto de death melódico, girando un poco a veces en la estructura compositiva más o menos a terrenos heavy, en este caso el concepto en ocasiones es algo más "guarrete" por así decir, un poquito más "punkarrilla", pero no caen en eso afortunadamente, y termina uno llenandose con una música festiva en ocasiones, épica en su justa medida. El grupo milanés se forma en 2011, y desde ese momento dos LP's y un EP, a fecha de esta reseña, son su producción total. El segundo de sus LP's ha visto la luz a finales del mes de junio de este 2023, y desde luego son una banda a tener en cuenta. Canciones para una vida - Magnus Karlsson Free Fall - Nightbird

 

NIGHTBIRD

Ya han pasado diez años desde que el guitarrista y compositor Magnus Karlsson comenzase este proyecto en solitario bajo su propio nombre, algo que en principio podía parecer un proyecto puntual pero que con el tiempo y apoyado por la gran capacidad compositiva de este músico ya nos va dejando cuatro LP's de estudio, llenos de melódia, de fuerza y de calidad, con algunas colaboraciones importantes y con un futuro que promete, al menos potencialmente, con seguir dandonos buenos momentos de heavy power metal melódico. Canciones para una vida - Angra - Ride Into The Storm

 

RIDE  INTO  THE  STORM

Nuevo disco de los brasileños "Angra" a la vista, aún habrá que esperar hasta el mes de noviembre pero en estos días nos dejan su primer adelanto de la nueva obra. El disco llevará por título "Cycles of pain" y será ya el décimo de su discografía, aunque se antoja un tanto escasa a juzgar por la longevidad de la banda que lleva en activo desde 1991, pero siempre ha tenido este grupo la tendencia a tomarse con calma lo de editar obras, algo que suelen suplir con la calidad a modo de redención. Esta obra según los integrantes de la banda rinde en cierto modo homenaje al dolor, teniendo en cuenta todo lo que les ha sucedido desde 2018 en que editaron su anterior trabajo. Entre la pandemia y por ejemplo la muerte de Andre Matos, ex voz del grupo, la temática escogida ha sido el dolor y como nos enfrentamos a él, y el primero de los adelantos de este "Cycles of pain" lleva por título "Ride into the storm" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Lo primero que a uno le ronda por la cabeza cuando ve un material comom este, en este formato, single, posterior a una obra relativamente reciente, en la que se rinde homenaje a un tema incluido en esa reciente obra, remezclandolo, presentándolo en vivo, es la necesidad de pasta, por una parte, por otra, querer mantenerse visible en un mercado como el actual, tan volatil, donde el gran público parece mantener la atención de forma muy breve, y donde las bandas tienen la necesidad de adapterse y seguir en el escaparate, casi con demasiada preocupación por ello, lo que les lleva a reutilizar su propio material o el de otros con tal de conseguirlo.
