LAND  OF  BROKEN  DREAMS

Viendo el presente de esta banda, los suecos "Dynazty" y repasando el pasado nos damos cuenta de las muchas papeletas que tienen para un futuro brillante, aunque en ocasiones pasan cosas, a veces externas y otras internas que se cargan a grupos que parecen un ejemplo de éxito y estabilidad, esperemos que eso no se de aquí, el punto que han sabido alcanzar les pone en ese posible y realista futuro, y hoy quiero repasar algo de su pasado otra vez, en este caso de la parte media inicial de la banda, del año 2012, hace ya una década, donde mostraban en su tercer LP de estudio en ya un lustro de actividad, el buen hacer que les ha traido de momento hasta este punto actual. El disco al que me refiero es "Sultans of sin" y la canción que de dicha obra dejo es por ejemplo "land of broken dreams" que presentaron nada menos que en eurovision, aunque tiene muchas donde escoger, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

MY  LOVE'S  IN  GERMANY

Tercero de los adelantos del grupo germano que sigue con esa línea compositiva del metal de aquellas tierras sobre todo del que se refiere a grupos que se salen de la senda digamos clásica del heavy metal y que se fusionan con otros elementos que puedan ir desde los industriales a los medievales. es por lo general característico de estas bandas que canten en su lengua materna aunque en otras ocasiones, sobre todo creo que si pretenden abrirse a un mercado mayor, lo hacen también en ingles, como es el caso. Estamos hablando ya del quinto LP de la band, "Felsenfest" que verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo 28 de octubre. Este nuevo adelanto lleva por título "My love's in Germany", y cuenta con la colaboración de Zora Cock a la voz de la banda "Blackbiar", tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Mael Mordha - Laudabiliter

 

LAUDABILITER

 Mael Mordha es una banda irlandesa que desarrolla un sonido bastante propio, peculiar mezclando varios elementos que han definido su sonido. Se trata de una banda irlandesa que suena un poco a folk metal de raices célticas, un poco a power doom heavy metal, y elos mismos se definen como "Gaelic doom metal", con unas líricas histórico mitológicas, han desarrollado una carrera bajo el nombre de Mael Mordha desde 1998 hasta que en 2015 deciden separarse, o más bien dejar su futuro en el aire pues parece que pueden retornar a un periodo activo en cualquier momento aunque desde 2013 no editan material nuevo de estudio. Son cuatro los LP's que conforman su discografía, entre 2005 y 2013 y es el LP de este último año citado del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas. La obra lleva por título "Damned when dead" y la canción escogida es la que abre la obra, "Laudabiliter" de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

THE  FATE  OF  KINGS

Haciendo un repasillo a la discografía de la banda británica "Foorefather" he caido en la cuenta del mucho tiempo ya que hace desde la publicación de su último material de estudio, su el que en realidad es su primer EP, "Tales from a cloud born land" de 2017, que tiene siete antecedentes en formato LP desde 1999 en adelante y que muestran el gran hacer de una banda que me encanta, un grupo que enmarca su sonido en un death black melódic metal de temática absolutamente nórdica, entre vikinga y sajona, altamente recomendable. Este citado repaso en este caso es siempre un ejercicio bien recomendable, y hoy quiero mirar a su parte incial de nuevo para traer una de las canciones que forman parte de su dico "Engla Tocyme" de 2002, el que hace el tercero de sus LP's, concretamente "The fate of kings" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

FORGOTTEN  KINGDOM

Siguiendo con la casi interminable lista de bandas ochenteras practicamente desconocidas, hoy tocaremos de nuevo la escena estadounidense de esa década para recuperar hoy a "Sunset", que cumple con muchas de las premisas de ese tipo de bandas y de esa época, con apenas repercusión, una única obra que apenas contaba con seis temas de los que uno es una versión de Led Zeppelin e incluye otro instrumental, que es el que hoy quiero dejar en el blog y que da nombre a la obra, "Forgotten Kingdom", así pues, casi puede hablarse de un EP más que de un LP, en una clave que abraza desde el hard 'n heavy hasta un heavy metal melódico siempre hijo desde la perspectiva de la producción de su época, 1986. Como digo dejo hoy en el blog el tema instrumental que quizá no sea el mejor ejemplo para mostrar todas las características de la banda, aunque siempre habrá ocasión en el futuro de dejar alguno más de sus temas, una canción esta "Forgotten Kingdom" con un cierto aire oriental y misterioso, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Sellsword - Crossing The Blades

 

CROSSING  THE  BLADES

Los británicos "Sellsword" son una de esas bandas que han ido sabiendo hacer las cosas muy bien desde el punto de vista compositivo, aunque igualmente son una de esas bandas que de momento han pasado bastante, demasiado, desapercibidos, sobre todo a juzgar por ese citado potencial. La verdad es que en términos de historia de la banda el grupo lleva ya en acitvo casi una década, (desde 2013) sin embargo desde la perspectiva de producción musical tan solo dos LP's adornan su discografía, hasta la fecha de esta reseña. Hablamos de un estilo bastante personal, dificil de encasillar en un solo subgénero pues toma elementos tanto del power como del heavy metal clásico, y ellos mismos le añaden la etiqueta de épico. Además, sobre todo en el segundo album, se nota alguna estructura en lo instrumental, que no en lo vocal, típico de las bandas death melódicas, en defiitiva que parecen tener buenos mimbres para llegar a asomar la cabeza en algún momento. Ya en su debut dejaron buenas pinceladas de su calidad, en la obra "..And now we ride" de 2016, como por ejemplo con este "Crossing the blades" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Keldian - Run For Your Life

 

RUN  FOR  YOUR  LIFE

Cualquiera que haya juzgado el sonido de los noruegos Keldian por la última de sus obras, e incluso diría más yendo a sus últimos dos trabajos, se estaría perdiendo la mejor parte de su historia, sobre todo juzgandola desde una perspectiva más power, más heavy, más contundente. Siempre muestran calidad, por supuesto, y siempre han demostrado que no les preocupa mucho la opinión de las masas, dan la sensación de seguir sus propios impulsos compositivos, y estos últimos les han alejado un poco de su propuesta inicial que a mi entender no tenía desperdicio. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones que componen su tercer LP de estudio, "Outbound" de 2013, concretamente uno, "Run for your life", que ilustra bien ese cierto cambio al que hoy me refiero, siendo un tema bastante más directo, y power, del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Mentalist - Generation's Legacy

 

GENERATION'S  LEGACY

Parece sin duda alguna que la banda germano sueca "Mentalist" ha cogido velocidad de crucero a la hora de editar material de estudio ya que, desde su formación en 2018, han editado ya tres LP's en años consecutivos desde 2020 en adelante contando con este "Empires Falling" cuya salida a la venta oficial se espera para el ya inminente día 16 de septiembre. Desde luego a juzgar por su adelanto "Generation's legacy", debemos estar ante una obra en la línea de lo anteriormente compuesto por la banda, es decir, un sonido para amantes del buen heavy power que se hacía entre los 90 y los 2000, un guiño sin duda a esa época dorada, y una clara demostración de que los músicos aquí implicados destilan mucha calidad, baste con nombrar a un tal Thomen Stauch. ex de Blind Guardian. Canciones para una vida - Nordheim - Under A Crying Storm

 

UNDER  A  CRYING  STORM

los canadienses "Northeim" de sonido plenamente nórdico , llevan ya muchos años sin sacar material nuevo de estudio (desde 2017), a pesar de seguir en activo y de haber demostrado ese buen hacer y esa calidad innegable en los tres LP's que hasta la fecha de esta reseña adornan su discografía. Como digo death metal melódico, con tintes folk y en ocasiones casi power, que cualquiera que no conociese el origen de la banda les buscaría en escandinavia más que en ningún otro punto del globo, sin embargo es la también estraordinaria cantera canadiense la que marca el origen de la banda. 2013 fue el año escogido por la banda para publicar su segundo LP de estudio, "Refill", album completamente de confirmación tras su buen debut de 2010, y del citado segundo album dejo hoy en el blog otro de sus temas, en esta ocasión "Under a crying storm", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - In Flame - The Great Deceiver

 

THE  GREAT  DECEIVER

Dificil poner a esta banda una sola etiqueta sonora, máxime si atendemos a toda su larga trayectoria que recorre las décadas de los 90, los 2000, los 10, los 20 y lo que venga, y además la evolución en sonido, aunque sea más bien en los matices, algo que al final a mi personalmente me ha hecho tener un seguimiento bastante intermitente de este grupo que por otra parte siempre he considerado de gran calidad a pesar de que algunas de sus obras, o de sus épocas no vayan en absoluto conmigo. Siempre me quedaré con sus momentos más death melódicos, y en este 2022 la banda ha publicado ya dos singles que aparentemente pertenecerán a su próximo LP de estudio del que de momento no tengo mayor noticia, una canción con videoclip, de la que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Black Tears - Silver Woman

 

SILVER  WOMAN

 De vuelta a la escena germana ochentera, del heavy metal clásico, el número de bandas que sirvió de base a lo que vendría era ya lo suficientemente nutrida como para sentir la variedad, pero desde luego hay hitos metálicos germanos que se muestran por algo como una constante de influencia casi general por méritos propios, particularmente dentro de la escena germana primigenia el nombre de Accept, que en estos "Black Tears" es evidente, sobre todo en "Child of the storm" de 1984. Es obvio que atendiendo a estos parámetros la originalidad de dicha obra deja de ser el argumento más destacable, pero todo amante del sonido a lo Accept verá en Black tears un bonito refugio sonoro al que recurrir. Otro de los temas que se pueden destacar de este disco puede ser "Silver Woman" de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Atlain - Hallowed By The Priest

 

HALLOWED  BY  THE  PRIEST

Los alemanes Atlain, son un gran ejemplo de lo que es una banda a medio camino entre el heavy metal y el thrash metal, lo que se puede llamar unejemplo prototípico del speed metal, máxime cuando nos referimos a una banda que desarrollo su carrera musical a comienzos de los ochenta, es decir es un genuino speed metal de manual. Es al mismo tiempo un gran lástima que esta banda tan solo editase un par de LP's en 1984 y 1985, una muestra demasiado breve de su talento aunque mucho más que suficiente para demostrar el potencial innegable que les podría haber llebado tan alto como se hubiesen propuesto. Canciones para una vida - Mercy - Pray

 

PRAY

De vuelta al material inicial de los suecos "Mercy", banda de la que ya he hablado en el blog y de la que hoy quiero dejar una de las canciones que componen su segundo LP "Witchburner" de 1985. Esta primera parte de la historia de la banda, que comprende desde hasta 1986, estaba marcada por la presencia del músico Messiah Marcolin quien formaría luego parte de Candlemass, nombre por todo metalhead conocido. Hablamos de heavy metal de la vieja escuela al que se le añade la etiqueta también de Doom. Otra de las figuras importantes para la banda fue la del músico Andrija Veljaca, también multiinstrumentista y que tiró del carro durante el resto de la carrera del grupo, es decir hasta 2003, siendo desde 1988 intermitente la actividad de la banda. Volviendo al segundo LP, "witchburner" del 85, hoy dejo en el blog la canción "Pray", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Amon Amarth - Saxons And Vikings

 

SAXONS  AND  VIKINGS

El décimo segundo LP de estudio de los suecos Amon Amarth es un guiño a muchas cosas, para empezar a ellos mismos y a su pasado, a los fans originales sin dejar de lado a los que se sumaron más tarde, es un intento de recuperar una senda que les ha llevado muy alto, aunque hayan cosechado más de una crítica en sus últimas obras, y quizá, atendiendo a ello también, lo cual no es para nada malo si así ha sido, pues escuchar es muchas veces o casi siempre algo digno de alabanza, han retomado una senda más death melódica, menos power si se quiere, pero fiel a ellos mismos, a los de antes y a los de ahora, un equilibrio que les ha quedado francamente bien. Es pues un disco de reconciliación, de encuentro de todos, y además con algún invitado sorpresa, como el presente en el tema de la obra que hoy dejo en el blog, "Saxons and vikings", con ese título puede intuirse sin haber escuchado la canción que la banda Saxon tenga algo que ver en esta ecuación, y efectivamente así es, el bueno de Biff Byford pone voz en parte a este tema, como devolviendo la cortesía que el bueno de Johan Hegg tuvo con Saxon en 2018. El caso es que quiero hoy dejar un enlace a youtube de este tema de este 2022, "Saxons And Vikings", simplemente Amon Amarth.

Los canadienses "Triumph" parecen un ejemplo apropiado para ilustrar esa otra vertiente que el sonido original creado por y para la guitarra electrica tomó para desarrollar un sendero paralelo que en ocasiones se entrecruza con el heavy metal creando muchas veces un límite demasiado pequeño como para apreciarse, en esas ocasiones hablamos de ese sonido hard 'n heavy, que ya desde comienzos de los 80 se fue dando aquí y allá a lo largo y ancho del planeta. Como digo, los canadienses "Triumph" siempre se centraron en esa vertiente más hard rockera, pero presentan a lo largo de su carrera momentos que rozan ese heavy metal. Creados en 1975, han editado a fecha de esta reseña un total de 10 LP's de estudio entre 1976 y 1993. El quinto de esos LP's fue "Allied Forces" de 1981, un año en el que el heavy metal despuntaba como tal ya a nivel planetario y que dejo un cierto influjo en la obra de la banda que por otra parte se puede sin duda catalogar como hard rock. una obra que vendió más de un millón de copias solo en Estados Unidos, y de la que se pueden extraer temas como este "Ordinary Man" que hoy dejo en el blog, una canción bastante larga, en torno a 7 minutos y medio, con un inicio tranquilo pero que alcanza a lo largo del tema un climax en una clave algo progresiva incluso, una buena muestra de lo que es capaz de ahecr esta gran banda, una canción como digo de 1981 de la que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.
