THE  FINAL  HOUR

Ya en varias ocasiones he mencionado en el blog eso que or otra parte todos conocemos perfectamente, y es la dificultad que el heavy metal como tal, la continuación del concepto clásico, sufrio desde finales de los 80 en adelante, diversificandose el sonido hacia otras direcciones, entre ellas hacia la vertiente progresiva unida en ocasiones al incipiente concepto power que crecia a medida que la década de los 90 iba trascurriendo. El caso es que la escena progresiva, impulsada en esta versión por el sonido de los enormes Dream theater que serían los primeros en saborear el exito total, crecía dando paso a muchas otras bandas a la sombra de aquellos, pero que demostraron la tremenda calidad que atesoraban y que, a pesar de ser un sonido el progresivo más dificil de vender desde el momento en el que requiere una mayor dedicación por parte del consumidor, si que tenía un público fiel siempre que la calidad estuviese de parte de la banda. En ese marco explota también la banda estadounidense "Shadow Gallery" que cambia su nombre en 1985 a ese y comienza en 1992 su andadura compositiva a través de su homónimo "Shadow Gallery", donde dejan bien claro todo el potencial que les terminaría por dar enormes momentos en futuras obras. De este debut quiero hoy dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, concretamente "The final hour", el tema más corto de la obra, donde el aire neoclásico está presente así como los rasgos que han estado presentes en la historia de esta banda, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

FELLOWS  OF  THE  HAMMER

El tercero de los adelantos de la nueva obra de los italianos "Wind rose" está ya aquí, mostrando a todos aquellos que apreciaron su anterior trabajo que siguen el mismo sendero compositivo que van poco a poco trazando en una evolución desde unos inicios más genéricos hacia otros más especializados en las tesituras líricas del mundo Warhammer y concretamente de los enanos. Su estructura sigue siendo power, con presencia total y continua de coros épicos que te trasladan a ese mundo fantástico tan propicio para los amantes del subgénero, así pues todos los clichés generales como específicos de la banda prometen un nuevo capítulo en la carrera en ascenso de la banda, un nuevo capítulo que llevará por título "Warfront" y que verá la lus de forma oficial el próximo 10 de junio, es decir mañana mismo, veremos, o mejor escucharemos, de momento hoy en el blog el enlace al clip oficial de este "Fellows of the hammer".

Canciones para una vida - Eluveitie - Aidus

 

AIDUS

Señales de vida de los suizos Eluveitie que se suman a la corriente predominante de editar singles para mantener la atención sobre ellos y el interés de los fans acortando así los tiemos entre LP y LP. En esta ocasión la propia banda califica la canción "Aidus" como uno de los temas más pesados que han realizado, como subrayando la idea de que han emprendido un nuevo camino ya mostrado en su ultimo LP "Ategnatos" de 2019, subrayando el lado más metálico que folk de su propuesta. Canciones para una vida - Hammer King - Pariah Is My Name

 

PARIAH  IS  MY  NAME

Otro grupo que va cogiendo velocidad de crucero, contundencia y empaque son los alemanes "Hammer King" que en estos días nos enseñan los primeros acordes del que va a ser ya su quinto LP de estudio, en una carrera que está resultando bastante productiva si tenemos en cuenta que se formaron en 2015 y que como digo ya estamos ante su quinto LP en solo siete años. El pasado trabajo fue de 2021 y en el se asentaban definitivamente en su concepto power épico basado en riff poderosos y coros efectivos, un poco a medio camino entre Hammerfall y Manowar, bebiendo mucho para mi gusto de la escuela sueca Hammerfalliana - Powerwolfica. El caso es que sin inventar nada nuevo ni caer en ninguna clase de virtuosismo, creo que la definición que mejor les queda es la de efectivos, explotan bien sus virtudes y la fórmula llega a pesar de los pensamientos más puristas. El nuevo LP, de título "Kingdemonium" verá la luz de forma oficial el 19 de agosto, hasta entonces dejo en el blog su clip oficial de este "Pariah is my name".

Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Survive

 

SURVIVE

Otro de los grandes nombres y uno de los pioneros en resucitar, o engrandecer, o agigantar a la escena finesa poniendola en la década de los 90 completamente de moda a nivel internacional fueron Stratovarius, quienes apesar de las idas de nombres importantes, destacando sobre todo el de Timo Tolkki, ha sabido rehacerse perfectamente y en estos días nos presentan los primeros detalles de la que será su décimo séptima obra de estudio, "Survive" para septiembre, a través del single que dará nombre a la obra, "Survive". Tras siete años de silencio entre este y su anterior trabajo, el título de la nueva obra habla de ellos mismos como banda, del futuro de nuestro planeta así como de la situación social actual. Canciones para una vida - Amon Amarth - Get In The Ring

 

GET  IN  THE  RING

El segundo adelanto del duodécimo LP de estudio de los suecos Amon Amarth ya está aquí, y el primero tras desvelarse los detalles de la obra, "The great heathen army" que se espera para primeros de agosto. Este segundo adelanto tiene por título "Get in the ring" y es parte de la obra que sus creadores tildan de una vuelta más hacia las raices, sobre todo comparándolo con su anterior trabajo "Berserker" que ellos mismos han denominado como más heavy metal. A esta obra la califican como más death metal, y parecen mostrar un cierto arrepentimiento de sus últimos pasos compositivos, o al menos eso parece desprenderse de sus palabras, quizá se trate de una estrategia cara a las ventas o a la espectación pues muchos de sus fieles iniciales han ido dando la espalda a la banda a pesar de que sus legiones han ido en aumento desde su cambio de ritmo, imagino que mantener un equilibrio en esa situación ha de ser complicado, veremos cuando podamos hacer un juicio completo tras su escucha, de momento dejo en el blog este segundo adelanto, "Get in the ring" del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - Short As Hell

 

SHORT  AS  HELL

No hay duda tanto de la calidad musical de Hansen, como de su versatilidad, capacidad experimentadora o ausencia de miedo para tener ese enfoque desenfadado que al final siempre termina enriqueciendo las obras en que está presente, es uno de esos músicos tocados por el destino para hacer casi lo que desee, y eso es algo que también en el disco "Powerplant" de 1999 con su banda Gamma Ray está presente, por ejemplo en la canción que hoy dejo en el blog, "Short As Hell", donde vemos reminiscencias un tanto fuera de la estructura compositiva normal o esperable, con un toque casi de Metallica, de los de comienzos de los 90 más bien, quedando patente esa mencionada capacidad camaleónica del músico. Canciones para una vida - Keldian - We Are Rebellion

 

WE  ARE  REBELLION

Los noruegos Keldian están de vuelta para disfrute de sus fieles, que sin ser muchos aún por el desconocimiento general de la banda si que parecen ir en aumento con el transcurrir de su carrera que con este "The bloodwater rebellion" aumentan su discografía a cinco LP's de estudio. Formados en 2006 la banda siempre ha funcionado de forma independiente, marcando su propio camino y sus propios ritmos, por lo tanto a su favor el camino exacto por el que querían discurrir, y en contra la limitada repercusión que sus produciones alcanzan en general, aunque quien se acerca a este sonido suele quedarse por la innegable calidad y lo original de una propuesta muy personal, que posee un sello muy reconocible, autodenominado "Cosmic hard rock" pero con elementos variados desde el power al sonido electrónico y progresivo. Desde 2017 no editaban un LP y en este 2022 nos dejan este disco conceptual que habla de los problemas que el maltrato del ser humano al medio ambiente, personalizando en el agua, pueden desencadenar. Canciones para una vida - Battle Beast - Armageddon

 

ARMAGEDDON

Nuevo repaso a la última de las obras de los finlandeses "Battle Beast" que en este 2022 nos han dejado su sexto LP de estudio, el tercero ya sin Kabanen, habiendo sin duda encontrado su propio estilo y demostrando sin ningun lugar a dudas que la banda original daba para dos facilmente. La citada propuesta del grupo como es conocido, se interna en terrenos más modernillos si se quiere, más electrónicos en ocasiones y con un gusto grande por temas enganchones y fáciles de guardar en tu cabeza, alejandose en cierto modo del concepto más europower que les caracterizaba en sus comienzos. Esa facilidad para crear singles vendibles queda patente en varios de los temas también de esta obra, "Circus of doom", como por ejemplo en la canción "Armageddon" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Treat - Dark To Light

 

DARK  TO  LIGHT

Menuda obra completa, lustrosa, engrasada, enganchona, melódica, bien ejecutada, y hasta cierto punto renovando un sonido que por otra parte siempre demostró su calidad, y es que la escuela sueca es casi mágica, en lo que a calidad se refiere. hablamos por supuesto de Treat, que ya demostró en la segunda mitad de los 80 el tremendo potencial en esos momentos con ese hard rock tan americanizado que tanto se llevaba en la época, ahora, desde su resurrección desde 2006 con un baño más euro hard algo más moderno que en este "The endgame", noveno LP de estudio de la banda, cuarto de la segunda época, alcanza un altísimo nivel en su conjunto como obra y en la madurez compositiva del grupo como banda, a estas alturas de la carrera de las bandas, cuando hay calidad, como es el caso, saben perfectamente lo que quieren hacer y hacia donde quieren ir. Muchos temas destacables, el poder de la obra es el conjunto de ella, con algunos destacables como por ejemplo este "Dark To Light" del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Crematory - Break Down The Walls

 

BREAK  DOWN  THE  WALLS

Este pasado fin de semana ha salido a la venta de forma oficial el décimo sexto disco de estudio de la banda germana "Crematory" de título "Inglorious Darkness". Para la ocasión la banda ha reformado en parte su formación con la inclusión de un bajista nuevo y con una cierta vuelta a los origenes en lo vocal ya que ese apartado será responsabilidad exclusiva de Felix Stass, como ocurria a los inicios de la carrera de la banda, y lo hará tanto en la parte gutural como en la limpia. Como siempre la banda de nuevo es fiel a su concepto compositivo, ese sonido gótico - industrial - death melódico que lleva siendo mucho tiempo santo y seña de la banda. El segundo de los temas de la obra lleva por título "Break down the walls" y es esa canción la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog, con esa melodía enganchona que recorre la canción, algunos cambios y contrastes entre las voces limpias y guturales, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - MSG - A King Has Gone

 

A  KING  HAS  GONE

Michael Schenker es una de esas figuras alargadas en esto del heavy metal, que ha ligado siempre su nombre a bandas míticas o a proyectos como mínimo interesantes, con un gran hacer y que lleva en esto de la música desde los 70, ahí es nada. Iniciando su periplo en bandas de la categoría de Scorpions y posteriormente de UFO, vemos claramente su gusto por ese sonido a medio camino entre el heavy metal y el hard rock que ha mamado desde sus inicios y que ha contribuido sin duda a crear y engrandecer. A finales de los 70 decide iniciar su carrera en solitario bajo su propio nombre, o con las siglas MSG, banda que ha tenido dos épocas y que este 2022 ha visto como editaba su décimo tercer LP de estudio, "Universal" para el que se ha rodeado de grandes nombres internacionales para homenajear y homenajearse en una nueva demostración de creatividad y longevidad musical. Y hoy recurro a uno de los momentos del disco por lo musical y lo significativo del tema, "A king has gone" donde el guitarrista alema´n rinde tributo a nada menos que DIO para lo que ha reclutado nada menos que a la sección rítmica original de Rainbow cuando DIO militaba en la banda, adornando la canción vocalmente con Michael Kiske, un tema del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

HELLOWEEN  - THE  BEST  THE  REST  THE  RARE  -  1991

 El eterno por que de los recopilatorios, porque no es lo mismo uno que otro, el motivo, el momento en el que se decide editar uno, suele ser cuestión de homenaje o de recaudación económica, suele ser digamos honesto o más bien tratando de aprovechar alguna circunstancia que haga más fácil su venta, en vivo, en estudio, con temas clásicos, con rarezas o caras b, vamos, que todo un mundo. En este caso en concreto, creo que el hecho de la salida de Hansen de la banda, precipitó un recopilatorio quizá demasiado prematuro por el número de LP's que la banda llevaba, si bien el hecho del calibre de los citados discos es un argumento importante, pero los acontecimientos y la incertidumbre que generaban pesaron más que lo estrictamente musical. Casi sonando a despedida se hace un recorrido basicamente "Keeperiano" lo que da una pista más de la ambición discografica por hacer caja más que desde el propio punto de vista de homenaje, pero Helloween tenía cuerda para rato, como quedaría demostrado desde ese momento en adelante, con sus luces y sus sombras, aunque de lo que no cabe duda es que aquellos Helloween realmente nunca volverían, ni siquiera con la última reunión a modo de megabanda. La portada una vez más a cargo de Frederick Moulaert, que tan gran legado "calabacístico" dejo entre los metalheads ochentero-noventeros, un Cover artwork que hoy dejo en el blog.

BLOOD  OF  THE  ELVES

Después de desvelar tanto la lista de temas que compondrán el album como la portada del mismo, Blind Guardian no deja otro de los adelantos del que será ya su duodécimo LP de estudio "The God Machine" cuya salida oficial se espera para el mes de septiembre. El nuevo tema lleva por nombre "Blood of the elves", que líricamente se basa en la serie de juegos de ordenador "The witcher". En boca de Hansi se trata de una canción que mezcla la parte instruental de lo que hacía la banda en los 90 con la parte vocal de los 2000 en una especie de hibrido. Dejo hoy un enlace a youtube del clip oficial que la banda a grabado para el single.

Canciones para una vida - TYR - Valkyrjan

 

VALKYRJAN

La cuarta obra de estudio de los feroeses "TYR" se llama "Land", un disco que denota algún cambio de rumbo compositivo con respecto a las obras anteriores, sobre todo en un detrimento de los componentes progresivos y un aumento de los elementos épicos en sus canciones, un poco más en esa onda de himnos épicos que aquí se hicieron más presentes. El disco lo editan en 2008 cuando la banda se había asentado ya bastante tras su presentación internacional potenciada por su firma con Napalm Records procediendo del minúsculo país insular Islas Feroe" hasta entonces conocidas más que nada por la calidad de su bacalao, (y no me refiero al género musical...). Sea como fuere, estamos ante otra obra con el sello de la banda, también en la utilización de su lengua materna en muchas de sus canciones, dando ese aire aún más nórdico a sus atmósferas. De esta obra dejo hoy una de sus canciones en el blog, concretamente la canción con vocación de medio tiempo "Valkyrjan" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
