VISIONS  OF  THE  PAST

El siempre genuino heavy metal de la década de los ochenta parece no tener fondo, es como una interminable cascada de bandas que apenas han tenido repercusión internacional por la sobresaturación de la escena de la época, y también por el hecho de que en esa década era mucho más dificil asomar la cabeza, la promoción de las bandas se hacía a la antigua usanza, no existia una posobilidad real de auto promoción como hoy en día puede darse, se tenía que funcionar siempre a través de terceros, depender de los managers en el mejor de los casos, de las discográficas si tenías la suerte de tenerlas y ya luego de tu calidad para sustentar toda la propuesta en su conjunto. Muchas escenas estaban activas en esa época, y la sueca era una de ellas, y desde siempre ha destacado por la calidad. Otra de las bandas salidas de esa época y país fueron "Axe Witch", en una clave de heavy metal de la old school, que comenzó su carrera en 1981 para una década más tarde parar y separarse, recuperando una segunda parte de la misma desde 2006 en adelante. Cuatro LP's de estudio más dos EP`s componen su carrera, tres LP's en su primera época y un cuarto en 2021. Canciones para una vida - Axel Rudi Pell - Survive

 

SURVIVE

A la vista ya el vigésimo primer LP de estudio del guitarrista alemán Axel Rudi Pell que da nombre a la banda, absolutamente asentada y que desde 1998 tan solo ha visto algún cambio en el puesto de batería ya que en 2013 Bobby Rondinelli fue el último en incorporarse a esta maquinaria perfectamente engrasada de hacer LP's. Una vez más, lo que se puede comentar a riesgo de resultar repetitivo es la homogeneidad compositiva de la carrera del grupo, uno sabe exactamente lo que va a encontrar en cada obra del grupo, y una vez más esta no será una excepción. El disco saldrá a la venta de forma oficial el próximo 15 de abril y en estos últimos días de febrero aprovechan para mostrar su primer single, "Survive" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gus G. - Night Driver

 

NIGHT  DRIVER

El músico, guitarrista griego, Gus G. es una de esas figuras dentro del heavy metal que ha sabido labrarse una carrera y una fama a base de calidad. Habiendo unido su nombre a otros grandes tanto bandas como músicos, (Dream Evil, Firewind, Mystic Prophecy, Ozzy Osbourne, etc), y que desde muy pronto ha emprendido una carrera paralela en solitario, bajo su propio nombre, atravesande épocas, espaciando sus discos, (que con este "Quantum Of Leap" ya son cinco), y poco a poco dando forma a esta parte de su carrera que no podía terminar de otra manera que llegando a editar un obra completamente instrumental, sin voces invitadas, como ha sucedido este recién pasado 2021 en su mes de octubre donde vio la luz de forma oficial este "Quantum of leap", compuesto durante la pandemia y donde el guitarrista confiesa haber dado rienda suelta a algunas ideas nuevas pero con la base de su identidad compositiva y sonora de fondo. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones que componen este album, concretamente una con un guiño ochentero innegable, desde el sonido en si hasta la estética del clip recie´n salido, "Night driver" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - The Ferrymen - The Last Ship

 

THE  LAST  SHIP

Otra demostración más de la calidad de este terceto, ya podríamos decir que consolidado como banda con este tercer LP es la canción "The Last Ship". Hablamos de "The Ferrymen", ese proyecto internacional que cuenta con Magnus Karlsson tras las composiciones y la guitarra y bajo (toda una garantía siempre, tanto en una labor como en la otra), Ronnie Romero a la voz, (atravesando uno de sus mejores momentos musicales con un gran reconocimiento internacional merecido) y Mike Terrana, en la batería, otro nombre con mayúsculas, uno de esos baterías que disfrutan de una fama merecida y labrada a lo largo de una carrera respaldando en la percusión a nombres internacionales de primerísima fila. El album mencionado, "One more river to cross" de este 2022 es otro ejercicio de metal melódico, con un aire progresivo como siempre digo muy en la onda de los primeros Masterplan, siempre fácil de escuchar, siempre demostrando calidad en lo compositivo y en lo técnico interpretativo, y como decía al inicio encarnandolo en un tema como este "The last ship" queda perfectamente plasmado todo lo dicho, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Metal Walpaper BBM - Yngwie Malmsteen - Trilogy

METAL  WALLPAPER  BBM

YNGWIE  MALMSTEEN  -  TRILOGY  -  (1986)

 

Siempre hay una época en la que una banda o músico raya a la mayor altura que lo hará en toda su carrera, un punto álgido que muestra una conjunción de circunstancias que acerca al máximo de sus posibilidades al artista o la banda, el de Yngwie Malmsteen se inició con este "Trilogy" de 1986, y en mi opinión, también por lo que significa este album en mi historia propia como metalhead, es la cima de su carrera en lo que a disco completo, en lo que a composición completa se refiere. La verdad es que para la obra se rodeó de musicazos, los hermanos Johansson, Anders y Jens, batería y teclados respectivamente, y Mark Boals a la voz amén de si mismo a la guitarra y el bajo. El disco enmarca un heavy metal melódico pero directo y contundente, neoclásico pero no cansino ni pesado, sin caer tanto en la autocomplacencia como suele el genial músico, con momentos para el lucimiento shred pero sin columpiarse, es un disco para disfrutar todos, no solo él. Eso es lo que en general he echado de menos en más de sus obras, ya ha quedado patente muchas veces que se trata de un músico veloz como el rayo, con una técnica extraordinaria, pero esto de la música va además de feeling, de otro tipo de cosas que en este "Trilogy" dio a manos llenas y eso se nota y se notará para siempre pues se trata de uno de esos clásicos eternos. Las portada de la obra es de las mejores de la banda, igualmente a mi me toca el corazoncito, es parte de mi muy primera juventud. obra del estadounidense David Heffernan, mucho más artística y menos egocéntrica con él y su necesidad de atención y reconocimiento perpetuos. En definitiva, una de esas obras eternas que siempre debe uno tener a mano.

Canciones para una vida - Amon Amarth - Put Your Back Into The Oar

 

PUT  YOUR  BACK  INTO  THE  OAR

Aún no ha trascendido que yo sepa, el nombre o la fecha de la nueva obra de los suecos "Amon Amarth" aunque si que nos llega un nuevo single de título "Put your back into the oar" recién publicado y que nos hace pensar en esa posible salida de material nuevo de la banda en forma de LP en breves fechas. De todas maneras parecen haberse aficionado desde 2020 a sacar singles ya que este es el quinto, pero siendo material nuevo esperemos que pronto tengamos noticias de un LP de los vikingos. En lo referente al sonido, vemos como perpetúan la línea de los últimos discos, con un sonido muchísimo más para todos los públicos , menos extremo y siempre fácil de digerir, memorizar y por lo tanto de vender. El tema va acompañado de un clip muy "cinematográfico" del que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Ethel The Frog - Fight Back

 

FIGHT  BACK

Volviendo a esa parte casi histórica de repaso de nuestro sonido a lo largo de su historia regreso de nuevo al año 1980, y claro está, hablando de esa época debemos casi ineludiblemente referirnos a la NWOBHM, y por lo tanto a la escena británica que tanto y tan buen impulso dio al heavy metal en sus inicios mismos. Hoy quiero rescatar a "Ethel The Frog", una banda a la que se le nota mucho todo eso, el origen y el movimiento en el que se le debe englobar, igualmente queda patente la época temprana en que se dedicaron a escribir su música. El grupo fue absolutamente breve en su historia personal, casi meteórico, entre 1978 y 1980 en que editaron su único material de estudio en forma de LP homónimo al nombre de la banda, Tras su separación dos de los miembros de la banda formarían "Salem" de la que ya he hablado en el blog. El disco que nos ocupa hoy, "Ethel the Frog" lo componen10 temas que harán las delicias de los amantes del auténtico sonido original e inicial de la NWOBHM, y del que hoy dejo en el blog la canción "Fight Back" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - London - Masters Of The Airwaves

 

MASTERS  OF  THE  AIRWAVES

London es una de esas muchas bandas que, sobre todo en la década de los 80, anduvo desarrollando su carrera musical, intermitente, a medio camino entre varios sonidos, a medio camino entre el heavy metal y el hard rock en esa denominación que entonces surgió de Hard 'n heavy. Siendo de origen estadounidense, se entiende esa tendencia hacia el sonido hard americano, pero en ocasiones se intuía además ese trasfondo heavy tambien de la escuela yankee. El origen de la banda se relacionó siempre con la figura del bajista Nikki Sixx, conocido sobre todo por su trabajo también de composición en Motley Crue, quien fundo esta banda junto con Lizzie Grey en 1978. El grupo tuvo una primera etapa de actividad hasta 1981, sin material editado, una segunda etapa entre 1984 y 1991 con tres LP's editados y una tercera etapa desde 2006 en adelante con un cuarto LP editado. Canciones para una vida - Amorphis - Northwards

 

NORTHWARDS

Siempre me termina pasando lo mismo con las obras que van sacando los finlandeses Amorphis, con pocas escuchas noto esa necesidad de escuchar sus temas una y otra vez, dejandome claro a mi mismo que se trata de una de mis bandas preferidas y en general creo que de una de las bandas del panorama internacional con más garantías para generar obras de calidad. Este décimo quinto LP de estudio de la banda, "Halo", recien salido a la luz este pasado 11 de febrero no es una excepción, y seguramente seguiré acudiendo a él en más ocasiones. Canciones para una vida - Power Paladin - Creatures Of The Night

 

CREATURES  OF  THE  NIGHT

Los amantes del sonido power de corte europeo no pueden dejar pasar la ocasión de asomarse al nacimiento de esta banda, Power Paladin, que cuenta, ya sin saber nada acerca de ellos aparte de la estética de su portada o del origen nórdico de sus componentes, con todos los ingredientes imaginados posibles, todos los tópicos que aglutinaron los grandes de siempre dentro del subgénero, desde la temática fantástica hasta la estructura compositiva. Se trata simplemente de lo que parece, y parece que la banda tiene mimbres para desarrollar una consistente carrera por la senda que han escogido, aunque eso solo el tiempo terminará por decirlo, ya sabemos que aparte de lo musical estrictamente hay que atender a muchas otras razones para que una banda termine por cosolidarse y triunfar. El caso es que su primer LP de este 2022, "with the magic of the windfyre steel" ofrece varios buenos momentos destacables, entre los que también está este tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "creatures of the night" canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Ereb Altor - I Have The Sky

 

I  HAVE  THE  SKY

La nueva obra de los suecos Ereb Altor se titula "Vargtimman" y ha visto la luz de forma oficial el pasado 14 de enero, en lo que supone ya el noveno LP de estudio para la banda vikinga. Como siempre hablamos de un sonido épico, nórdico, atmosférico, un tanto opresivo, haciendo ese claro homenaje a la banda Bathory, algo que desde el inicio de su carrera ha sido así. Todos los seguidores de la banda habituales saben bien lo que se encontrarán en cada obra de Ereb Altor, este disco es una confirmación más de que el grupo se encuentra perfectamente cómodo haciendo ese sonido y no ven la necesidad de explorar nuevos caminos, para alegría de sus defensores. El primero de los temas que abren esta obra de este 2022 se llama "I have the sky" y de ella dejo hoy un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Wisdom - Nightmare Of The Seas

 

NIGHTMARE  OF  THE  SEAS

En esto de la música siempre hay muchas cosas que se nos escapan, como es evidente, por mucho que nos recorramos internet de arriba a abajo no encontramos toda la información o los motivos completos del porque de la desaparición de ciertos proyectos o ciertas bandas, tras trayectorias más o menos cortas pero que destellan con un brillo propio innegable, en esta ocasión dentro del power de corte europeo, encarnado en los húngaros Wisdom, que desarrollaron una prometedora carrera entre 2001 y 2018 para separarse demasiado prematuramente  tras editar cuatro fenomenales LP's complementados con dos EP's. El último de esos albumes es "Rise of the wise", una obra prototípica del europower, casi un manual de como hacerlo, y hacerlo bien, que terminaría por ser su despedida en 2016. Canciones para una vida - Silverlane - Blessed

 

BLESSED

Los alemanes Silverlane son una de esas bandas que llegado el momento del relanzamiento de su carrera hacen que te preguntes, pero estos tíos donde se habían metido y por que llevan más de una década en silencio, es decir, son una de esas bandas que aún habiendo demostrado el tremendo potencial que atesoran, no han llegado al gran público, y teniendo una corta discografía se han diluido en el anonimato a pesar del citado potencial demostrado. El caso es que este 2022 ha sido el año escogido por la banda para relanzar su carrera editando su tercer LP de estudio, "III Inside Internal Infinity" cuya salida oficial se produjo el pasado 22 de enero. Para los que no conozcan a la banda, practican un heavy power melódico, de corte europeo y con tintes modernos, aunque solo en detalles. Con respecto a su material pasado, para este relanzamiento de su carrera muestran novedades en la formación en el puesto de cantante y batería, pero el transfondo de la banda parece permanecer intacto en sus propósitos compositivos. SEVENTH  SUN

El tercer adelanto de los eternos alemanes, incombustibles Scropions ya está aquí, perteneciente al que será su vigésimo LP de estudio "Rock Believer" cuya inminente ya salida oficial se espera para este próximo día 22 de febrero. El título del trecero de los singles de la obra es "Seventh sun" y en él muestran todo ese carímático sonido que muchas generaciones han ido saboreando a lo largo y ancho de más de cinco décadas, (ahí es nada). Al final los mitos no se crean de la nada, y Scorpions siempre ha sabido dar un plus en todo lo que hace que les ha hecho ser, entre otras cosas, una de las bandas metálicas con más millones de discos vendidos a nivel planetario. Canciones para una vida - Prehistoria - Time

 

TIME

Prehistoria es una banda estadounidense de reciente formación, y que en este 2022 ve los primeros frutos compositivos en forma de EP donde muestran todo un potencial que hace prometer un futuro interesante, veremos. Estamos ante un power metal de corte americano, aunque con matices, no es un sonido absolutamente de ese lado del charco. La banda se formó en 2020 y su primer material, "Cursed Lands" cuenta con cuatro temas a modo de presentación en sociedad, de momento sin discográfica y auto producido, aunque con buen acierto también en ese apartado de la producción. De dicho EP dejo hoy en el blog el tema que lo abre, "Time" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
