NORTHWARDS

Siempre me termina pasando lo mismo con las obras que van sacando los finlandeses Amorphis, con pocas escuchas noto esa necesidad de escuchar sus temas una y otra vez, dejandome claro a mi mismo que se trata de una de mis bandas preferidas y en general creo que de una de las bandas del panorama internacional con más garantías para generar obras de calidad. Este décimo quinto LP de estudio de la banda, "Halo", recien salido a la luz este pasado 11 de febrero no es una excepción, y seguramente seguiré acudiendo a él en más ocasiones. Canciones para una vida - Power Paladin - Creatures Of The Night

 

CREATURES  OF  THE  NIGHT

Los amantes del sonido power de corte europeo no pueden dejar pasar la ocasión de asomarse al nacimiento de esta banda, Power Paladin, que cuenta, ya sin saber nada acerca de ellos aparte de la estética de su portada o del origen nórdico de sus componentes, con todos los ingredientes imaginados posibles, todos los tópicos que aglutinaron los grandes de siempre dentro del subgénero, desde la temática fantástica hasta la estructura compositiva. Se trata simplemente de lo que parece, y parece que la banda tiene mimbres para desarrollar una consistente carrera por la senda que han escogido, aunque eso solo el tiempo terminará por decirlo, ya sabemos que aparte de lo musical estrictamente hay que atender a muchas otras razones para que una banda termine por cosolidarse y triunfar. El caso es que su primer LP de este 2022, "with the magic of the windfyre steel" ofrece varios buenos momentos destacables, entre los que también está este tema que hoy dejo en el blog, "creatures of the night" canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Ereb Altor - I Have The Sky

 

I  HAVE  THE  SKY

La nueva obra de los suecos Ereb Altor se titula "Vargtimman" y ha visto la luz de forma oficial el pasado 14 de enero, en lo que supone ya el noveno LP de estudio para la banda vikinga. Como siempre hablamos de un sonido épico, nórdico, atmosférico, un tanto opresivo, haciendo ese claro homenaje a la banda Bathory, algo que desde el inicio de su carrera ha sido así. Todos los seguidores de la banda habituales saben bien lo que se encontrarán en cada obra de Ereb Altor, este disco es una confirmación más de que el grupo se encuentra perfectamente cómodo haciendo ese sonido y no ven la necesidad de explorar nuevos caminos, para alegría de sus defensores. El primero de los temas que abren esta obra de este 2022 se llama "I have the sky" y de ella dejo hoy un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Wisdom - Nightmare Of The Seas

 

NIGHTMARE  OF  THE  SEAS

En esto de la música siempre hay muchas cosas que se nos escapan, como es evidente, por mucho que nos recorramos internet de arriba a abajo no encontramos toda la información o los motivos completos del porque de la desaparición de ciertos proyectos o ciertas bandas, tras trayectorias más o menos cortas pero que destellan con un brillo propio innegable, en esta ocasión dentro del power de corte europeo, encarnado en los húngaros Wisdom, que desarrollaron una prometedora carrera entre 2001 y 2018 para separarse demasiado prematuramente  tras editar cuatro fenomenales LP's complementados con dos EP's. El último de esos albumes es "Rise of the wise", una obra prototípica del europower, casi un manual de como hacerlo, y hacerlo bien, que terminaría por ser su despedida en 2016. Canciones para una vida - Silverlane - Blessed

 

BLESSED

Los alemanes Silverlane son una de esas bandas que llegado el momento del relanzamiento de su carrera hacen que te preguntes, pero estos tíos donde se habían metido y por que llevan más de una década en silencio, es decir, son una de esas bandas que aún habiendo demostrado el tremendo potencial que atesoran, no han llegado al gran público, y teniendo una corta discografía se han diluido en el anonimato a pesar del citado potencial demostrado. El caso es que este 2022 ha sido el año escogido por la banda para relanzar su carrera editando su tercer LP de estudio, "III Inside Internal Infinity" cuya salida oficial se produjo el pasado 22 de enero. Para los que no conozcan a la banda, practican un heavy power melódico, de corte europeo y con tintes modernos, aunque solo en detalles. Con respecto a su material pasado, para este relanzamiento de su carrera muestran novedades en la formación en el puesto de cantante y batería, pero el transfondo de la banda parece permanecer intacto en sus propósitos compositivos. SEVENTH  SUN

El tercer adelanto de los eternos alemanes, incombustibles Scropions ya está aquí, perteneciente al que será su vigésimo LP de estudio "Rock Believer" cuya inminente ya salida oficial se espera para este próximo día 22 de febrero. El título del trecero de los singles de la obra es "Seventh sun" y en él muestran todo ese carímático sonido que muchas generaciones han ido saboreando a lo largo y ancho de más de cinco décadas, (ahí es nada). Al final los mitos no se crean de la nada, y Scorpions siempre ha sabido dar un plus en todo lo que hace que les ha hecho ser, entre otras cosas, una de las bandas metálicas con más millones de discos vendidos a nivel planetario. Canciones para una vida - Prehistoria - Time

 

TIME

Prehistoria es una banda estadounidense de reciente formación, y que en este 2022 ve los primeros frutos compositivos en forma de EP donde muestran todo un potencial que hace prometer un futuro interesante, veremos. Estamos ante un power metal de corte americano, aunque con matices, no es un sonido absolutamente de ese lado del charco. La banda se formó en 2020 y su primer material, "Cursed Lands" cuenta con cuatro temas a modo de presentación en sociedad, de momento sin discográfica y auto producido, aunque con buen acierto también en ese apartado de la producción. Canciones para una vida - Evil Lyn - Shadow Soldier

 

SHADOW  SOLDIER

Retornando una vez más al concepto clásico, pero de la ola moderna, esa corriente que ha vuelto a poner de moda el espiritu más clásico del heavy metal, el más honesto, el más sencillo, el original, sin adornos, sin excesos ni florituras, guitarra, batería bajo y voz. Esa corriente que en este renacimiento de la última década que ha calado en todo el planeta, apareciendo bandas casi en cualquier esquina que ha recurrido a dicho concepto. Hoy, recupero de nuevo a los finlandeses "Evil Lyn" quienes el año 2018 editaron su primer LP de estudio "Disciple of steel", al que me acabo de dar cuenta de que ya he recurrido en dos ocasiones más, lo que a nivel personal me hace tener la certeza de que me ha gustado bastante su primer disco de estudio.Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un enlace a youtube de su canción, "Shadow soldier" como muestra de su buen hacer y del potencial buen futuro que debería esperar a esta banda nórdica.

Canciones para una vida - Battle Beast - Freedom

 

FREEDOM

El sexto Lp de los finlandeses Battle Beast, "Circus Of Doom" cuya salida oficial fue el pasado 21 de enero, va enseñando sus puntos fuertes, así como la consolidación de una fórmula que parece funcionarles a la perfeccion, con temas más fieles a un euro power digamos tradicional y otros más orientados a rasgos electrónicos y/o modernos. El caso es que la banda se nota que pasa por un buen momento personal y parecen ir dejando atrás esa salida de la banda de Kabanen y la aparente presión de demostrar que había vida compositiva después de Kabanen, cosa que ha quedado clara. No es menos cierto que aquellos que critiquen a la banda en su forma de expresarse musicalmente no tendrán dificultad en perpetuar sus argumentos, pero al final toda banda trata de seguir el camino que se ha trazado, lo que siempre trae críticas por parte de quien no comparta dicha visión. Canciones para una vida - Treat - Home Of The Brave

 

HOME  OF  THE  BRAVE

Los suecos Treat, regresan en este 2022 con su noveno LP de estudio, "The endgame". Se trata de una de esas bandas con un largo camino a sus espaldas, desde 1981, repartido en dos épocas, una inicial que abarca hasta 1993 y que incluye 5 LP's de corte clara y descaradamente hard rockero de la escuela americana, y una segunda época desde 2006 en que deciden reunirse para tomar una dirección más encaminada a un hard 'n heavy melódico, de corte europeo, con algunos matices modernos, un poco en la onda de bandas nóricas como Eclipse pero sin llegar exactamente a ese sonido. Lo que no se les puede negar es el oficio, el buen hacer de una banda que tuvo su momento de importancia, que lleva mucho tiempo el los escenarios y que parece vivir otra segunda juventud, como otras bandas han sabido hacer en su etapa madura. El citado nuevo LP, "The endgame"  verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo mes de abril y su primer adelanto es el tema "Home of the brave" del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Harmony - Kingdom

 

KINGDOM

Englobables en ese conjunto de bandas a las que se puede poner la etiqueta de metal cistiano, encontramos a los suecos Harmony, una banda que practica y hibrido entre heavy metal melódico y power metal que a su vez ha tenido una irregular carrera sobre todo por lo espaciado de sus obras y los cambios en su formación, incluido el puesto de vocalista por el que ha pasado el enorme Daniel Heiman que actualmente consta como titular del puesto aunque la banda no edita material nuevo desde 2015. Siempre ha mantenido a su vez este grupo muy alto el nivel de calidad de sus obras incluyendo un cierto aire progresivo a sus composiciones sin ser este particular dominante en su forma de componer, si sin embargo un ingrediente más que añaden aquí y allá. La carrera de Harmony comienza en 2000 y desde entonces tres LP¡s más dos EP's adornan su discografía, que se antoja un tanto escasa en referencia a su tiempo en activo y a la calidad mencionada demostrada. El segundo de sus LP's se titula "Chapter II: Aftermath", del año 2008, donde aún Heiman no había entrado a formar parte de la banda y donde las funciones vocales las desarrollaba un más desconocido Henrik Bath,quien desarrolla un gran papel y que dejaría la banda tras este segundo disco. Canciones para una vida - Arch Enemy - Handshake With Hell

 

HANDSHAKE  WITH  HELL

Otra de esas bandas que parecen atravesar un momento dulce es Arch Enemy, formados en 1995, estos suecos han ido en crecimiento a lo largo de sus discos, con cambios en puestos como el de vocalista, tan significativo, más aún cuando el cambio lo haces de un cantante masculino a otra femenina, y luego, tras toda una década a su vez la sustituyes por otra nueva, pero en general cada cambio ha ido a mejor, y además está la peculiaridad del tono vocal que emplean dichas cantantes, la última de ellas, la guapa Alissa White Gluz que da ese plus a la banda desde 2014. Llevaba ya Arch Enemy sin editar un disco desde 2017 con su undécimo album de estudio "Will to power" del que ya he hablado en el blog, y este duo décimo "Deceivers", cuya salida oficial se espera para junio ha mostrado ya el pasado 2021 dos de los temas que lo compondrá, hoy dejo en el blog el tercero de los adelantos, "Handshake with hell", otra buena muestra del buen saber hacer de una banda con un objetivo muy claro, que se conoce muy bien y sabe donde quiere llegar, un tema este "handshake with hell" del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Crimson Glory - Astronomica

 

ASTRONOMICA

Los estadounidenses Crimson Glory son una de esas bandas que han llevado de la mano desde casi el comienzo de su carrera un aura casi de banda de culto, de esas que se reconocen más a posteriori, casi demasiado tarde, y desde luego cuyo éxito no se tradujo en ventas. Igualmente siempre se les ha reconocido su mérito a nivel individual, como músicos talentosos y de enrome capacidad y al fin, han sido banda influyente para otras, con todos los ogredientes de las grandes bandas, salida de miembros a priori indispensables, (Midnight a la voz), una etapa más mítica como fue la inicial en los 80 con sus dos primeras obras, una etapa pre separación más criticada antes de la salida de Midnight, y una segunda actividad con cambio de vocalista en la que hoy estamos, "Astronomica" de 1999, el cuarto LP con Wade Black. Los tópicos en estos casos, que si Wade no estaba al nivel de Midnight, que si Midnight comenzaba su carrera en solitario, solo que todo ello siempre tengo la sensación de que estaba cocinado a medio gas, es decir más underground, reconociendo sin duda y por supuesto la calidad de los yankees. En definitiva, más allá de los cambios, del significado de esta obra dentro de la carrera de la banda estamos ante un disco bastante decente, de buen nivel general, siempre con ese heavy power progresivo como objetivo sobradamente cumplido y de esta obra quiero hoy dejar en el blog la canción que da nombre a la obra, "Astronomica", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Rune Lord - Valkyries Eternal Winter

 

VALKYRIES  ETERNAL  WINTER

Si hablamos de músicos polifacéticos, de esos con un hambre compositivo casi obsesivo, de los que parecen contar con 70 horas cada día para ser capaces de entender el elevado número de proyectos que lidran o en los que contribuyen, entonces uno de los nombres que deben ser tenidos en cuenta es el del sueco Cederick Forsberg, al que ya me he referido en muchas otras ocasiones, y del que hoy dejo en el blog otro de esos mencionados proyectos como es "Rune Lord". Hablamos de un heavy power con claros guiños clásicos, hablamos de una propuesta no demasiado alejada a la que hace con "Blazon Stone" aunque para nada tan mimética con el sonido de Running Wild. Es fácil pensar que este sueco quizá haría mejor en unificar o mejor dicho administrarse para centrar sus esfuerzos compositivos en menos proyectos y que sean más consistentes, pero parec o al menos tiene toda la pinta de que no es su forma de ser. El caso es que "Rune Lord" solo cuenta con dos LP's de estudio, curiosamente los dos del mismo año, 2018, y parece que figura, a pesar de ese silencio compositivo desde 2018 su estatus como activo. Una vez más él se encarga de todo menos de la voz, para quien tiene a su compañero vocalista tambien en Blazon Stone, Georgy Peichev. Canciones para una vida - Unisonic - Night Of The Long Knives

 

NIGHT  OF  THE  LONG  KNIVES

Ahora que finalmente la esperadisima reunión Helloweenera clásica se ha hecho real el pasado 2021, al echar la vista atrás nos damos cuenta de lo progresiva y en cierta manera natural manera en que esto ha terminado por suceder, con pequeñas colaboraciones entre hansen y Kiske al inicio, participaciones en los proyectos de ambos por parte del otro fuera de Helloween, temas compuestos especificamente para ser cantados por Kiske por parte de Hansen, y el paso anterior y más firme fue la creación del proyecto "Unisonic" que durante unos años nos parecía lo más cercano que se podría encontrar a aquella mágica época de ambos en la banda. Al final el proyecto tendría dos episodios, el segundo de ellos en 2014, "Light of dawn" del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas. Esta segunda entrega se muestra más variada, con temas más heterogeneos y resultaría ser el último del grupo antes de su separación en 2017. Buen ejemplo de esa tentación de considerarse herederos de aquellos Helloween es el tema "Night of the long knives", de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.
