BATTLE  OF  WARS

Hammer King es otra de esas bandas que van cogiendo velocidad de crucero en lo que es su carrera musical. Con la salida del tercer LP, "Poseidon will carry us home", este recién pasado 5 de octubre, los alemanes han editado tres discos en apenas 4 años, y persisten en su concepto inicial que va picando de aquí y de allá de diferentes fuentes para dar forma a un sonido ya personal y reconocible. De la misma manera el gancho de sus canciones se va afinando en general, y aunque jamás dirías de su música que sea la más técnica, la más original o la más vendible si que creo que resulta bastante efectiva consiguiendo seguramente su objetivo al llegar a la gente. De cualquier manera aún están lejos de llegar a todo "metalhead" planetario, y con una fórmula nada original en el fondo es difícil que terminen llegando a ser unos super ventas, pero no se les puede negar la persistencia en su concepto de lo que debe ser un disco de power metal. Esta tercera obra es un buen ejemplo de todo lo que digo, y como ejemplo quiero dejar en el blog la canción "Battle of wars", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Guardians Of Time - Raise The Eagle

RAISE  THE  EAGLE

Quinta obra de los noruegos "Guardians Of Time", una impresionante banda que desde luego no ha cosechado el éxito y reconocimiento que su calidad merece. Este nuevo disco "Tearing up the wolrd" ha sido puesto a la venta el pasado 19 de octubre y sucede al también impresionante "Rage and fire" de 2015. Estamos ante un power metal de altísimos quilates, con un personal estilo que puede traernos reminiscencias a bandas clásicas dentro del power europeo, o a músicos concretos como "Iron savior" si se quiere por ejemplo, o destellos al material de gamma ray o helloween, aunque no de manera homogénea. Sin duda es un grupo que ha decidido ser fiel a su sonido y en ello están. Una cierta evolución si podemos encontrar, sobre todo si miramos al inicio mismo de la banda, pero que no es algo demasiado acusado, siendo la contundencia dentro del estilo una de las señas de identidad, con una mezcla perfecta entre velocidad, coros y melodía. Un paso más adelante para esta fantástica banda que se ha sacado de la manga uno de los mejores trabajos dentro del power, de este 2018 de lo que llevo escuchado. Canciones para una vida - Dragony - If It Bleeds We Can Kill It

IF  IT  BLEEDS  WE CAN  KILL IT

Parece que la carrera musical de los austriacos "Dragony" coge velocidad de crucero con la edición de su tercer larga duración "Masters of the multiverse" salido a la venta el pasado 12 de octubre. Sin duda este trabajo editado bajo el sello "Limb Music" es una confirmación para la banda en su estilo power de corte europeo, más de lo mismo a lo que nos tenían acostumbrados en su material anterior, un sonido híbrido por ejemplo entre bandas como Freedom Call y Sabaton, con su temática épico fantástica y su continua redundancia en lo melódico. Va, ya la banda, hacia su primera década de existencia y se nota que están a gusto en el nicho sonoro que han escogido para desarrollar su carrera, con una cuidada producción siempre que hace de la escucha de su material nuevo también un ejercicio fácil sobre todo si lo tuyo es el power. Canciones para una vida - Sonata Arctica - I'm Haunted

I'M  HAUNTED

Ahora que la banda finlandesa "Sonata Arctica" ha anunciado que entran al estudio a grabar el que será su décimo LP de estudio, esperado para el próximo 2019 es un buen momento para echar la vista atrás al material que compone su historia personal, una controvertida historia musical llena de defensores y detractores casi a partes iguales, y en esta ocasión quiero traer al blog una de esas canciones que ilustran lo que digo, hablan de una de esas bandas capaces de lo mejor musicalmente, siempre mezclado con una forma de llevar su carrera de una manera equivocada, quizá con un hambre excesivo de ventas que les ha hecho gestionar sus tiempos mal en mi opinión, demasiados singles, EP's, recopilatorios o directos, sin olvidar algún que otro directo y ediciones especiales japonesas etc que han puesto a prueba en más de una ocasión la paciencia de los seguidores. El cambio estilístico desde los inicios frescos que deslumbraron al planeta metálico al completo al actual estilo más progresivo y personal han hecho que muchos, (entre los que me incluyo), pierdan la fe en lo que pueda venir de la banda. Hoy dejo la reedición del magnífico debut  de la banda "Ecliptica" de 1999, en su versión de la celebración del 15º aniversario de la misma, en su edición japonesa, (muy en la línea Sonata este intento de vender), de donde se puede extraer esta canción inédita "I'm Haunted", buena canción, y poco difundida en general, que una vez más muestra cual sería el camino compositivo apropiado para esta banda, veremos cual será el camino escogido para el próximo material que vendrá.

Canciones para una vida - Human Fortress - Under The Spell

UNDER  THE  SPELL

Desde Alemania una vez más no llega una banda, de la que ya he hablado anteriormente en el blog, y con una trayectoria ya notable que abarca desde 1999 hasta la actualidad. Human Fortress ha editado en este tiempo de existencia un total de cinco LP's, realmente no es una discografía muy prolífica, sin embargo, y haciendo notar que lo último del grupo no ha sido de mi agrado, si que mirando atrás a la historia compositiva de la banda cabe bien poner el título de variada y llena de calidad a la obra en general de la banda. Parte de la falta de consistencia a la hora de editar muchos discos o hacerlo al menos con mayor continuidad puede deberse a los muchos cambios en la formación del grupo que por otra parte siempre ha tenido detrás el apoyo de grandes discográficas tales como "Massacre" o "AFM". Hoy quiero retornar a su tercer LP, "Eternal Empire", de 2008, uno de sus mejores trabajos en mi opinión, para rescatar otro tema del mismo, que explica bien esa capacidad de la banda de experimentar, de variar, en este caso acercándose un poquito incluso al sonido de bandas como "Amorphis" en este "Under the spell" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Cacumen - Games Of Loneliness

GAMES  OF  LONELINESS

Hablar de "Cacumen" es, para la mayor parte de la gente, hablar de una desconocida banda, pero a mucha de esa gente si se le habla de "Bonfire" sabe al instante de lo que estamos hablando. "Cacumen" fue el germen de la banda melódica alemana "Bonfire" que más adelante tendría buenos destellos internacionales a alto nivel, y que como "Cacumen" apenas llegaran a destacar. Esa etapa de la banda dura desde 1972, año de su formación, hasta 1985, en que se reconvierten en "Bonfire", nombre bajo el que siguen en la actualidad. La etapa "Cacumen" estaba más encaminada hacia el heavy metal - hard n heavy, y sin duda alguna queda patente en su sonido que el espejo musical en que se miraban eran sus compatriotas "Scorpions". El cambio de nombre de la banda conllevaría un cambio también de estilo mucho más en onda del hard americano tan preponderante en la segunda mitad de la década de los 80. Como Cacumen editan un total de 3 LP's y un EP entre los años 1981 y 1984. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una canción de su segundo disco de estudio, "Bad Widow" de 1983, seguramente su mejor trabajo, y de él quiero dejar la canción "Games of loneliness", donde hacen patente esa "imitación" de la fórmula "Scorpions" en una de las disciplinas preferidas por aquellos como eran las baladas, aquí perfectamente recreada por parte de Cacumen, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Terra Atlantica - Poseidon's Wrath

POSEIDON'S  WRATH

Justo en estos días se cumple un año de la salida a la venta del primer trabajo de estudio de los alemanes "Terra Atlantica", un grupo en clave de power metal de corte europeo que inicia su camino musical como banda de una buena manera en un tiempo repleto de bandas que inundan el mercado internacional. Es igualmente indudable que no están inventando nada nuevo, y es que eso es algo realmente cada vez más difícil de conseguir, sin embargo su virtud es hacer bien lo que se proponen dentro del camino clásico compositivo dentro del citado campo del power metal. Ya dejé hace unos meses un tema de la obra y hoy quiero dejar otra de las canciones que más me han gustado de este debut, concretamente "Poseidon's Wrath", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Cromonic - Tale Of Pain

TALE  OF  PAIN

Para mi gusto, sin duda podemos ver en este álbum de los suecos "Cromonic" un disco de reivindicación, de como unos músicos con una larga trayectoria, enrolados en una banda que nunca termino de gozar del favor del gran público, como fue "Freternia" y a pesar de tener merecidas buenas críticas como banda con potencial, jamás llegó, como digo, a despuntar siendo una absoluta desconocida para la gran mayoría. Reconvertidos en "Cromonic", con una nueva imagen, una dosis más moderna pero un buen hacer mirando sus propias raíces, y tirando de orgullo, de tesón auto produciéndose de nuevo su música, dan el do de pecho en este "Time" de 2017, que por otra parte, sin el apoyo adecuado mucho me temo que pasará desapercibido de nuevo para muchos. Una vez más la calidad y las ventas no van de la manos, pero una vez más igualmente merece la pena sumergirse en una obra de esta categoría para respirar un soplo de aire fresco en la escena power europea. Canciones para una vida - Brainstorm - Ravenous Minds

RAVENOUS  MINDS

"Ravenous Minds" es una de las canciones de este ya duodécimo disco de estudio de los alemanes "Brainstorm" en las que más se nota la manos de "Seeb Levermann" en la producción de la nueva obra de estos chicos. Sin duda, y como ya he dicho en muchas ocasiones en el blog, el cantante, guitarra y compositor de Orden Ogan es una de las figuras importantes dentro de la escena internacional en lo que a power metal se refiere, y lo muestra tanto con su banda madre como en temas de producción a otras bandas como es el caso de este último trabajo publicado por Brainstorm. Desde luego esta banda va haciendo de su sonido algo cada vez más limpio, más dentro de los cánones más puristas que el estilo power de corte europeo exige, y esta obra "Midnight Ghost" es buena prueba de ello en mi opinión. Consistente en conjunto y con buenos destellos concretos, como puede ser el caso de este "Ravenous Minds" que hoy traigo al bllog y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

BLOODWINTER

 Wolfchant es otra de esas bandas que van haciendo con cada paso nuevo que dan en su carrera en forma de disco, que su nombre crezca, asentándose cada vez más entre los grandes del sonido que practican, death melódico viking metal. Ya son 15 los años de carrera de la banda y este disco que de nuevo traigo hoy al blog, su sexto LP "Bloodwinter" editado el pasado 2017 es una buena confirmación de lo que digo. Cada vez más engrasados y reconocidos dejo hoy en el blog la canción que da título al álbum, 2Bloodwinter", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Bloodshed Walhalla - Nine Words

NINE  WORDS

Como ya he dicho en el blog anteriormente respecto a esta banda nos encontramos ante uno de esos grupos que realmente son obra de un solo músico, desde la perspectiva de la composición tanto como desde la de la interpretación. De origen italiano, la figura tras Bloodshed Walhalla es "Drakhen" "Mario Di Pede" y el espejo sonoro en que se mira es sin duda el metal atmosférico, épico y viquingo que nació con los "Bathory", "Falkenbach" y compañía. Este hecho queda absolutamente patente cuando miramos la discografía de la banda y, sin ir más lejos, nos damos cuenta de que el pasado 2017, junto con la edición de este "Thor" del que hoy quiero dejar otro tema en el blog, editaron, (o editó) también un disco homenaje a "Bathory", y este 2018 también ha sido año de sacar material en forma del quinto LP, "Ragnarok" del que dejaré más adelante algo en el blog. Hoy quiero dejar como digo otra canción del tercer LP de "Bloodshed Walhalla" "Thor" de 2017, concretamente "Nine Words", tema 100% Falkenbach, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Angelus Apatrida - Farewell

FAREWELL

"Angelus Apatrida" es una banda de largo recorrido ya, (desde 2000 están en activo), cuyo sonido es absolutamente de corte americano, sorprendiendo el origen europeo, cocretamente español. Con un concepto Thrash, power thrash si se quiere, el grupo no ha parado de crecer desde sus inicios, y a pesar de no contar con una discografía excesivamente extensa si que cuentan ya con seis LP's  a sus espaldas incluyendo este "Cabaret de la guillotine" editado el pasado mayo del presente 2018. Gran parte de la banda sigue formando parte de la misma desde los inicios mismos de la banda hasta la actualidad siendo el puesto de batería el que más variación ha sufrido, y es esa estabilidad la que en muchas ocasiones puede marcar la diferencia en calidad y longevidad para una banda consistente. Hoy quiero dejar un tema en el blog de este último LP publicado por el grupo, en concreto su tercer adelanto de la citada obra, "Farewell" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dream Theater - Afterlife

AFTERLIFE

Toda banda tiene un inicio que demuestra en la mayor parte de las ocasiones por donde pueden ir los tiros musicales en su carrera futura. Luego muchos son los factores que deciden si las buenas cosas prometidas tan temprano son llevadas a buen término más adelante o no. En esta ocasión refiriéndome a Dream Theater es indudable que los muchos y buenos apuntes de este primer LP de la banda "When Dream And Day Unite", de 1989 mostraban a un grupo de primerísima línea que ha llegado a ser uno de los máximos exponentes en lo suyo, el metal progresivo. Ya desde tan temprano mostraban los Portnoy, Myung y Petrucci su calidad, y en esta primera obra de los estadounidenses el cantante era Charlie Dominici, antes de que otra de las señas de identidad de la banda, el cantante James LaBrie pasase a ser la cabeza visible de Dream Theater desde 1991 en adelante. Canciones para una vida - Virgin Steele - I Will Come For You

I  WILL  COME  FOR  YOU


 El sexto disco de los estadounidenses "Virgin Steele" forma parte de una especie de obra doble conceptual, que el grupo editó en dos años consecutivos, "The marriage of heaven and hell" parte 1 y 2 , de los años 1994 y 1995. Para muchos la banda trató en este par de obras de reparar el error que cometieron en su anterior obra "Life among the ruins" de 1993, más centrada en un sonido hard americano que en el heavy power que venían utilizando desde los inicios a lo largo de su carrera musical. Desde luego ya he hablado de esta banda en varias ocasiones en el blog, y alguna más vendrá seguro, pues la trayectoria de la banda es suficiente aval como para recurrir a su discografía más veces, un grupo menos reconocido una vez más de lo que se han ganado con los ya muchos años en la escena internacional. Con esta sexta obra se inicia un punto en la carrera de la banda que ya no han abandonado hasta la actualidad, con una cuidada atención a como sonar, como si hubiesen encontrado una fórmula que, si bien, como decía más arriba, no les ha hecho llegar nunca a ser unos superventas, si que parece haberles hecho sentir que están en la senda adecuada para ellos mismos, granjeándose el respeto entre gran parte del público metálico en general. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de esas canciones que hablan de lo que digo, "I will come for you", de la primera parte de "Marriage", de 1994, una gran canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Serenity - United

UNITED

De nuevo la sexta obra de estudio de los austriacos "Serenity" en el blog, un disco del que ya he hablado anteriormente y que sin duda es un paso más adelante en la carrera de la banda. Metal sinfónico, melódico, con un fondo épico, consistente y particularmente en este nuevo disco uniforme en el alto nivel general de la obra. A estos chicos se les nota que se conocen de memoria, que tienen un objetivo musical claro y que cumplen con creces con su objetivo.
