HEAVY  METAL  BREAKDOWN

Toda gran historia tiene un inicio, y la de esta gran banda alemana se inicia con esta obra de la que hoy quiero dejar una canción. Estamos en el año 1984, y la banda editaba "Heavy metal breakdown", su primer larga duración. El grupo se había formado en 1980, y tras editar un par de demos se había lanzado a grabar su primer material en el 84, un disco en el que se veía ya un enorme potencial que terminaría por cuajar el la importante realidad que han llegado a ser. Importante poner el marco nacional e internacional a la banda, porque su sonido se explica como uno de los que inciarían otra cosa, banda Grave Digger que influiría posteriormente en muchos otros grupos, y que pondría su grano de arena a diseñar el sonido nuevo que desembocaría en el power. Sin embargo siempre han tenido una interpretación propia de ese power, más sucio, cercano a otros sonidos, y en estos incios era el speed. Si de algo habla este primer trabajo es de originalidad, contundencia y garra, señas que conformarían una carrera que aún hoy continúa. Canciones para una vida - Them - Witchfinder

WITCHFINDER

 Them es una banda de esas que nacen de manera espontánea y progresiva, uno de esos grupos que crecen alrededor de una idea que originalmente no era la de hacer una banda como tal, sino que viene de otra idea, en este caso de la de un grupo tributo a una de las bandas clásicas e influyentes como es King Diamond. La figura tras la banda es el estadounidense Troy Norr, cantante y motor de lo que terminaría por convertirse en una banda real, "Them". Los músicos que componen el grupo son estadounidenses y alemanes, con abultados curriculums en otras bandas aunque la mayoría bastante desconocidas. En 2008 comienza la andadura del grupo como banda  tributo hasta que en 2011 Troy comienza a ver la posibilidad de crear su propio material y banda como tal. Esto sucede en 2014 y será en 2016 cuando editen su primer material propio en forma de EP, "Fear Them", en febrero, siendo septiembre de ese mismo 2016 la fecha en que ve la luz su primer LP, "Sweet Hollow". Este 2018 ha sido el año de publicación de su segundo larga duración, "Manor of the seven gables" del que hoy quiero dejar un tema en el blog. La obra de "Them" se centra en un heavy metal muy en la onda de su "espejo" musical "King Diamond", siendo fiel a la temática de terror y conceptual, incluyendo el atuendo apropiado en su presentación musical. Canciones para una vida - Elvenking - Pathfinders

PATHFINDERS

Hoy de nuevo recurro al material inicial de la banda italiana "Elvenking", el que sin duda alguna me resulta más interesante. Tras el magnífico primer disco de la banda "Heathenreel" de 2001 en 2004 veía la luz el segundo esfuerzo titulado "Wyrd", digno sucesor del debut y que cuenta con la particularidad de no estar grabado con el mismo vocalista que tanto antes como posteriormente se encargaría de las voces en todo el material de la banda, que no es otro que "Damnagoras" Davide Moras. Para esta segunda obra fue sustituido por "Kleid" Massimo Bottiglieri, curiosamente poco después de grabar el disco, en el propio 2004 Damnagoras retornaría a la banda para encargarse, como decía más arriba, de prestar su voz tan personal a todo el resto del material de la banda. Obra pues recomendable este "Wyrd" de los italianos, de la que hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema, en concreto "Pathfinders", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Amorphis - Honeyflow

HONEYFLOW

Otra de las canciones de la última obra de los finlandeses Amorphis, banda en forma como pocas, sus trabajos por lo general suelen ser sinónimo de calidad, y además en conjunto, es uno de esos grupos cuyas obras tienen un gran peso en total, no por temas sueltos. Sinceramente creo que estamos ante uno de los discos de este 2018, y mucho me temo que al final iré dejando en el blog todos y cada uno de los temas de este "Queen of time". Para no resultar más repetitivo tan solo dejar un enlace a la canción que hoy quiero dejar, "Honeyflow", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube, una canción que sirvió de single de adelanto y curiosamente luego no estaba incluida en la versión normal de la obra, sino que aparece como bonus track en la edición especial japonesa. Canciones para una vida - From North - Sworn Brotherhood

SWORN  BROTHERHOOD

De nuevo traigo al blog a esta banda sueca de folk death melódico de la que ya dejé hace tiempo una canción. Se trata de una banda, como ya he dicho en el blog, de reciente formación, (2016) y que tan solo tiene editado un único LP, de título homónimo al nombre de la banda, editado el pasado 2017 tan solo de manera digital. Temática nórdica, un corte compositivo épico, que en ciertas ocasiones, sobre todo en las que no utilizan la voz gutural, tienen un cierto aire casi power. Hoy pués, quiero dejar otra de las canciones de la obra, otra de las más "medio tiempo" en que usan voz limpia, "Sworn Brotherhood", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Siempre la palabra fidelidad acude a la mente de las obras de este guitarrista alemán, fidelidad a su propio concepto compositivo, a una banda compuesta por buenos músicos, y aunque sin duda eso hable de predecibilidad, por otro lado habla de calidad, y siempre es un punto a favor. Aprovecho la edición por parte de la banda de un lyric video de otro de los temas de su última obra como excusa para traer el tema al blog, se trata de la canción "The wild and the young" de su último LP editado "Knights Call" de este 2018, 100% Axel Rudi Pell, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube del citado "Lyric video oficial".

Canciones para una vida - Metallica - Fade To Black

FADE  TO  BLACK

Tercera obra de estudio de los internacionales o más bien interplanetarios Metallica, un grupo archi conocido del que hoy dejo seguro uno de los disco que más me gustan y siempre he disfrutado de la banda, el "Ride the lightning" de 1984. Para la ocasión la banda ya había cosechado mucho interés en el panorama internacional, encabezaba como ninguno esa onda nueva aún, que pegaba fuerte desde sobre todo Estados Unidos, y que se llamaba "Thrash Metal". Temas como este "Fade to black" del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace en el blog, fueron los que dieron ese buen nombre al grupo que terminaría llegando a ser una banda super ventas a pesar de perder, en mi humilde opinión, el contacto con sus origenes es en lo que a temas compositivos se refiere. Canciones para una vida - Reinforcer - Shipwrecked

SHIPWRECKED

Nuevamente la cantera alemana es una de esas escuelas que siguen produciendo bandas, en muchas ocasiones como en este caso, salidas aparentemente de la nada, con atributos musicales ilusionantes y llenos de calidad situando el sello teutón como uno de los más fiables en lo que a calidad-número se refiere. Este nuevo ejemplo que hoy quiero traer al blog es el grupo "Reinforcer", una banda en clave de heavy metal, en parte de corte clásico, en parte un tanto "Powerizado", que tan solo tiene editado este material del que hoy quiero dejar una canción como ejemplo de su buen hacer. La obra, en formato EP, se titula "The Wanderer" y editada este pasado 14 de septiembre de forma independiente. Buena producción, más aún teniendo en cuenta la falta de apoyo discográfico, momentos de heavy clásico casi "Speedico" con un formato, como decía más arriba un tanto "power", como queda patente en la canción "Shipwrecked", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Maltese Falcon - Heavy And Loud

HEAVY  AND  LOUD

"Maltese Falcon" fue una banda danesa, otra más de esas de breve periodo de actividad, dentro de esa explosión que vivió la escena internacional en la dorada década de los 80, esta también dentro del estilo del heavy metal que en aquellos momentos se hacía, ese sin adornos, y en esta ocasión de indudable corte a "Accept" y compañía. Una vez más estamos ante una banda que facilmente podría haber desarrollado una larga carrera, y seguramente con más de un destello importante a juzgar por lo que se puede escuchar en su primer y a la postre único LP editado en 1984, "Metal Rush". El grupo se forma en 1983, aunque ya venían intentándolo bajo otras denominaciones como "White Horse" o "Deadline". A pesar de haber firmado por "Roadrunner" para la edición de la obra, no pudieron continuar tras ese primer intento lo que llevó al grupo a separarse n 1986. Una pena, pero hoy quiero rescatar una de las canciones de su único disco, en concreto "Heavy And Loud" donde puede bien apreciarse ese potencial y ese regusto "Accept" al que anteriormente me refería, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Saxon - Requiem (We Will Remember)

REQUIEM  (WE  WILL  REMEMBER)

 De nuevo este clásico en el blog, un clásico como banda y como LP, del que el grupo ha sacado un puñado de temas que por derecho propio debería ir a cualquier recopilatorio de Saxon, y que habitualmente son elegidos en los shows en directo, además de los correspondientes a cada gira de cada obra nueva que editan, y es que este grupo lleva ya sacando discos más de cuarenta años, ahí es nada. 23 son los LP's grabados por la banda a fecha de esta reseña, y este "Solid ball of rock" de 1990 hace el décimo. Se trata de un disco criticado por algunos, más en mi opinión por el giro compositivo que las dos anteriores obras de la banda habían tomado, siguiendo la imperante corriente más hard, que el mercado americano imponía a la escena internacional a finales de los 80, y aunque en esta obra "solid ball of rock" retomaba la senda más original de Saxon, y en mi opinión con gran acierto, muchos no quisieron perdonar el "desliz" anterior en el intento de conquista del esquivo, para la banda, mercado americano. Sea como sea, hoy quiero dejar otro de los temas importantes de este "Solid ball of rock" de 1990, en concreto "Requiem (we will remember)" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Manimal - Black Plague

BLACK  PLAGUE

Purgatorio es la tercera obra de estudio de la banda de power sueca "Manimal", un grupo que lleva ya casi una década editando música y desde 2001 como formación. Atendiendo a la calidad de su sonido se antoja sin duda un tanto escasa la producción musical del grupo, aunque como digo lo compensan con la gran calidad que demuestran. Un poco en una onda power heavy metal, con ese punto clásico un tanto Judas, un poco Primal Fear, hoy quiero traer al blog el ultimo de sus LP's publicado, (a fecha de esta reseña). Se trata de "Purgatorio", una obra que ha visto la luz este recién pasado 7 de septiembre, por lo tanto del presente 2018, continuando bajo la discográfica AFM, con la que ya editasen su anterior disco de 2015 "Trapped in the shadows". En la presente obra "Purgatorio" pueden encontrarse todas las señas de identidad de la banda, habiendome resultado particularmente buena toda la obra en general, disco completo y recomendable del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de sus temas, concretamente "Black Plague" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Axel Rudi Pell - Strong As A Rock

STRONG  AS  A  ROCK


 Otra canción de Axel Rudi Pell, por lo tanto una vez más un sonido totalmente reconocible, en mi opinión dicho sea como algo bueno por la calidad que siempre se relaciona con este magnífico guitarrista alemán, y la banda de la que se rodea, siempre músicos de excelente calidad. En esta ocasión dejo en el blog una canción de su décimo álbum de estudio, un LP este "Kings and Queens" de 2004, 100 % Axel Rudi Pell, y hoy dejo la canción "Strong as a rock", uno de los que pudiesen haber sido elegidos por la banda como singles de la obra por lo pegadizo de la canción, de la que dejo un enlace a youtube, nada más que añadir, Axel Rudi Pell en estado puro.

Canciones para una vida - Ash Of Ashes - Down The White Waters

DOWN  THE  WHITE  WATERS

 Ash Of Ashes es un grupo alemán, uno de esos grupos que no deberían llamarse así, pues en realidad se trata del proyecto individual de un solo músico que se dedica a todo absolutamente, desde la composición hasta la interpretación de cada uno de los instrumentos. En esta ocasión se trata de un proyecto de reciente formación que hace tan solo unos días ha editado su primer esfuerzo musical en forma de LP, " Down The White Waters", de forma independiente y digital, y en el que su único miembro "Skaldir" se encarga de voz, guitarra, bajo y teclados. Nos encontramos ante una prometedora banda, a juzgar por lo escuchado en este primer contacto con la escena internacional, una banda con un concepto musical que se me antoja un tanto "Falkenbach" si se quiere, con un poco más de toque moderno aunque con una concepción al tiempo clásica, buena melodía, temas sin embargo no demasiado largos viendo hacia donde apuntan los tiros compositivos, y una buena producción, más teniendo en cuenta el hecho de la auto producción, algo que poco a poco va teniendo menor importancia a medida que avanza la tecnología, también en este campo. En definitiva, una buena sorpresa si lo tuyo es ese folk épico y atmosférico con un aire folk nórdico. Canciones para una vida - Overlorde - Snow Giant

SNOW  GIANT

Overlorde es una banda estadounidense uno de esos grupos absolutamente desconocidos, resurgidos de sus propias cenizas para apenas haber vuelto a dejar un pequeño destello, por puro tesón de alguno de sus miembros originales. Se trata de una banda que se formó de forma original en 1985 y tuvo una corta existencia hasta 1988, periodo de tiempo en el que tan solo editaron un EP "Overlorde" de 1987 con cinco temas. De aquella banda, tan solo el guitarrista Mark M.E. Edward, principal impulsor del grupo y único miembro actual de los originales, y el batería Dave Wrem lucharon por regrabar los cinco temas de aquel EP completándolo con 8 más para dar forma al, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, único álbum de la banda "Return of the snow giant", de 2004. Con un enfoque siempre de heavy metal old school, en esta época más orientada a un sonido más power, nos encontramos ante una obra más que decente que grabaron con el apoyo de una discográfica menor. Parece ser que ante la poca repercusión de la obra internacionalmente la banda no editó nada más, y ya sin discográfica han llegado hasta nuestros días aún en activo pero tan solo con el guitarrista original tirando del carro. según parece se ha rodeado de nuevos músicos y han grabado una demo en 2017. Veremos donde terminan las cosas. Hoy quiero dejar una muestra del gran potencial que la banda siempre ha tenido, con la regrabación para el LP "Return of the snow giant" de 2004 de la canción "Snow giant" originalmente compuesta para el EP "Overlorde" de 1987, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - U.D.O. - Blitz Of Lightning

BLITZ  OF  LIGHTNING

Faceless World es el tercer trabajo en solitario del que fuera, (y tras unos años más volvería a ser, para volver después a dejar de serlo) cantante de Accept. Para la ocasión, (nos encontramos en 1990), realmente sus excompañeros estaban un tanto perdidos, recién parido el disco "eat the Heat", buena obra pero desde luego fuera del estilo Accept clásico que cosecho infinidad de críticas por ese super guiño hard americano que se marcaron. Pues bien, como digo, UDO en solitario cosechaba mejores críticas, sin desviar su punto de mira de un heavy metal fiel al sonido Accept, su carrera en solitario venía cosechando buenas críticas, y su estatus vocal no hacía sino aumentar obra tras obra. Este tercer disco de la obra del cantante alemán en solitario tampoco pasará a la historia como el mejor de los discos de su carrera, sin embargo aglutina muchas de las virtudes que le han hecho grande y que le hicieron por la época la elección natural ante la falta de ideas de los Accept originales. Hoy quiero pues dejar una canción de este "Faceless wolrd" de 1990, heavy metal en uno de los años en que el heavy metal clásico comenzaba a hincar la rodilla ante otros estilos y modas, disco del que dejo la canción "Blitz of lightning", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
