Canciones para una vida - Hopes Of Freedom - Towards The Last Daybreak

TOWARDS THE LAST DAYBREAK

Segundo disco de los franceses Hopes of freedom, recién salido hace poco más de un par de meses, y al igual que les sucediese al inicio de su carrera se trata de otra banda aún desconocida lo que no implica que no haya en ellos calidad, pues tienen ese toque que antes o después les puede llevar a dar la campanada. Como ya dije en la anterior entrada que puse en el blog referente a su debut, Hopes Of Freedom son un grupo que hace un power folk metal de corte europeo, en la tradición épico-fantástica de bandas de los 90 y comienzos de siglo. El grupo se forma en 2007, impulsado por Lucas Lambert (Cantante y Guitarrista), al que poco después se unirá Clement Simon (Guitarra) y Jean-Cyril Montier (Batería). y unos meses más tarde Loris Brix (Bajo). Permanecen en la escena underground local y nacional forjándose como banda hasta 2010, en que dan un primer paso adelante editando su primer EP, con cinco temas titulado "Freedom Storm". En ese mismo 2010 Clément L'heryenat entra en el grupo sustituyendo en la batería a Jean-Cyril Montier. En 2012 Thibault Hennart sustituye en la guitarra a  Clement Simon. En 2012 aún, y tras ese par de cambios en el grupo "Hopes of freedom" edita su primer LP, "Hopes of Freedom", un álbum conceptual que narra las aventuras de un "Guerrero que ha de salvar al reino de las fuerzas malignas", y es que muchos de los tópicos esperables en un disco de power metal fantástico los encontrareis en esta obra, incluido este, con sus dragones, caballeros, castillos y batallas de caballeros, en definitiva, una banda con muchas reminiscencias al power fantástico italiano tan en boga en los 90, con temas más o menos enganchones, buenas melodías, coros, y ese cierto aire folk pero a base de melodía de guitarra. En esta segunda obra, "Burning Skyfall" parecen seguir los pasos de su camino iniciado con su primer LP, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de sus temas, esta vez "Towards the last daybreak", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Heathens Rage - Knight Of Steel

KNIGHT  OF  STEEL

De nuevo una de esas bandas que se quedó en apenas un proyecto, de nuevo una banda de heavy metal de la old school de la escuela estadounidense y de nuevo una banda que a pesar de la escasa producción musical que ha desarrollado ha sabido crearse un cierto aire de banda underground de culto para las, realmente escasas personas que lo conocen, se trata de "Heathens Rage". Con este tipo de bandas, lo primero que pienso que debemos tener claro es que su sonido, técnicamente hablando, en lo referente a su producción no debe eclipsar lo que es la composición en sí, y es que en este caso en concreto por ejemplo, es evidente que a este respecto nos encontramos ante un material que es poco más que una demo, sin embargo, teniendo eso claro, y mirando a la cuestión puramente compositiva, estamos ante una banda con un enorme potencial que podía perfectamente haber desarrollado una carrera musical larga y llena de éxitos. En lo referente a su sonido, en ocasiones me recuerda a otra banda estadounidense que apenas llegó a despuntar, como fueron "Emerald", o incluso a los primeros Manowar como en el final y parte media de el tema que hoy dejo, aunque en Heathens Rage encontramos también algunos reflejos a bandas europeas de la época, y es que comenzaron siendo solo unos chavales que al inicio hacían versiones de bandas grandes en el momento. En cuanto a su producción musical se limita a varias demos y este EP, que llamaron como la banda "Heathens Rage", en 1986, con solo tres temas. Su periodo de actividad se extendió entre 1983 y 1990, y desde 2014 se supone que se han reunido pero sin editar nada nuevo hasta la fecha de esta reseña. Canciones para una vida - Liege Lord - Eye Of The Storm

EYE  OF  THE  STORM

De nuevo una banda clásica en el blog, en esta ocasión los estadounidenses Liege Lord, con su heavy metal con ese toque speed y algo proto-power. se trata de una banda que cuenta con el reconocimiento de los amantes del sonido de la "Old School" por méritos propios y a pesar de la más bien breve carrera musical que les contempla si que han logrado dejar huella en la escena internacional a pesar de nunca haber sido unos superventas ni muchísimo menos. Liege Lord comienza su andadura musical a comienzos de los 80, en concreto en 1982 bajo el nombre de "Deceiver", que era una banda concebida como tributo a Judas Priest, banda de la que hacían versiones. En 1984 deciden dar un paso al frente y deciden componer su propio material, editando su primer material en 1985 en forma del EP "The Prodigy-demo album". Su discografía se completa con tres LP's, en los años 85, 87 y 88. El grupo terminaría por separarse en 1990. Volvieron a reunirse para el festival "Wacken" de 2000 y posteriormente se volvieron a separar sin editar nada más. Recientemente se han reunido otra vez, en 2012 para otra serie de festivales, pero siguen sin editar material nuevo. Volviendo a su discografía hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema del último de los discos que editaron, "Master Control" de 1988, posiblemente el mejor trabajo de la banda, y uno de esos discos que en mi humilde opinión deberían tener también un mayor reconocimiento general, pero no fue así, y atendiendo a la acogida, que no a la calidad de la obra en cuestión, podemos entender la decisión del grupo de dejarlo tras este tercer esfuerzo compositivo. En definitiva, una obra para descubrir si aún no lo has hecho, un disco que mola más cuanto más tiempo pasa y que sube enteros en el ranking internacional de grandes obras sin el reconocimiento necesario, año tras año. Un buen ejemplo es el tema que dejo hoy en el blog, "Eye of the storm" que demuestra bien el potencial que atesoraban estos tíos en aquellos años tan prolíficos. Canciones para una vida - Reviver - Bringer Of Evil

BRINGER  OF  EVIL

Buena banda holandesa, de corto recorrido y discografía pero que en absoluto hemos de pensar que su calidad esta ausente ya que atesoran un estilo enganchón lleno de destellos que hace mayor la pena ante su corta duración y su escasa productividad musical. Este grupo ha llegado a mis oidos recientemente gracias a un buen consejo y realmente tengo que decir que el único disco que tiene editada la banda merece mucho la pena. Su estilo se mueve a caballo entre varios subgéneros pero bebe directamente del heavy metal y el speed con algún guiño thrash en cuanto a la base de los riffs, e incluso un aire general algo power, con un cierto toque incluso progresivo podríamos decir en algunos momentos pero con una calidad, en mi humilde opinión, incuestionable. El grupo se forma en 1997 y funcionan un poco en la escena underground a base de 4 demos durante los primeros 5 o 6 años de vida de la banda. Después, en 2005 editarían el que resultaría, por desgracia, ser el único LP del grupo, al que titulan con el nombre de la banda, "Reviver". El trabajo vocal en concreto me gusta mucho, como queda por ejemplo patente en el buen tema que dejo de este disco en el blog. La verdad es que tampoco han inventado nada nuevo, pero si que sirve esta banda como ejemplo de todas esas buenas bandas que uno se encuentra por ahí si rebusca un poco, llevándose gratas sorpresas en muchas ocasiones. Canciones para una vida - Suidakra - Realms Of Odorik

THE  HUNTER'S  HORDE

Adelanto de la nueva obra de los alemanes Suidakra, "Realms of Odork" que se espera para el día 20 de mayo del presente 2016, y a juzgar por el tema de adelanto yo aún espero con más expectación su salida, y es que realmente Suidakra es una de esas bandas en el panorama internacional de la que siempre se puede esperar algo bueno sin miedo a ser defraudado. Este disco será ya el decimosegundo de los alemanes con su concepto death folk melódico y con ese toqué épico. Con clara influencia céltica no dudan en incluir elementos folk como gaitas, flautas etc para terminar de dar forma a su sonido, siendo uno de los grupos con mayúsculas dentro del género y uno de los que más me agradan. La banda se forma en 1994, bajo el nombre de Gloryfication, y así sacan una demo llamada XIII.  Arkadius Antonik, alma mater del grupo, se encargaba por aquella época de las voces, guitarras y teclados, y de los miembros originales del grupo es el único que permanece aún en la banda hoy en día. En 1995 cambian su nombre a Suidakra, que curiosamente es el nombre de Arkadius dado la vuelta. Como decía al inicio en vista del sonido de este tema promete la obra seguir en la buena linea de la carrera del grupo, toda una garantía para los amantes de este tipo de sonido. Canciones para una vida - Farseer - Fall Before The Dawn

FALL BEFORE THE DAWN

Farseer es una banda británica, más concretamente escocesa que se ha apuntado al sonido power metal de corte europeo con ese aspecto épico-fantástico en cuanto a letras y también en su melodía. Es evidente que no han inventado nada nuevo, y que en principio no están llegando a cotas tan elevadas dentro del estilo como sus, en parte compatriotas Gloryhammer, o como sus compatriotas Alestorm, aunque estos vayan en un plan más folk, como digo, Farseer son mucho más power tradicional. Lo bueno del disco es que es realmente su presentación tras un par de EP's en 2009 y 2012, y muestran destellos de, sobre todo, lo que podría estar por venir. La banda se forma en 2007 y como digo han editado 2 EP's en 2009 y 2012 además de este "Fall before the dawn" recién salido, de forma oficial hoy mismo. El disco se compone de 12 cortes y realmente aún tengo que escucharlo más para hacerme un juicio más justo de toda la obra, pero si que quiero presentarlos en el blog con su tema de adelanto que es el que da título a la obra, "Fall before the dawn", un tema del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube de su Lyric Video.

Canciones para una vida - Paragon - Hell Beyond Hell

HELL  BEYOND  HELL

Nuevo trabajo de Paragon, una banda de la que ya he hablado en un par de ocasiones en el blog. Paragon es una banda alemana de power metal fundada en 1990 por Martin Christian, guitarrista. Han editado hasta la fecha de esta reseña 11 discos de estudio y dos EP's, de un power metal con ciertos toques speed y una cierta influencia thrash. Sus comienzos fueron inciertos ya que tras grabar su primer EP "into the black", de 1994, la banda logra grabar su primer larga duración "World of sin", en 1995, tras lo que su discográfica les retira su apoyo quedando la banda en suspensión hasta que dos años después, en que Martin Christian encuentra nuevos miembros para el grupo y graban su segunda obra "The final command", en 1998 y la tercera "Chalice of steel", en 1999. Para su cuarta obra "Steelbound" dan un paso adelante al recibir la colaboración del productor Piet Sielck, de "Iron Savior", quien desde ese disco ha trabajado siempre ya con la banda en tareas de técnico de sonido. Tras su disco "Forgotten prophecies", de 2007, un disco que marca la salida de uno de los miembros duraderos de la banda, el batería Jan Bünning que deja la banda poco después de completar la grabación de la obra, siendo sustituido por  Christian Gripp, suponiendo también para la banda un cambio en su sello discográfico pasando a firmar en adelante con "Massacre Records". Canciones para una vida - Stratovarius - Until The End Of Days

UNTIL THE END OF DAYS

Nuevo recopilatorio de los finlandeses Stratovarius, una banda que evidentemente no necesita de presentación alguna y a la que ya he hecho referencia en el blog en más de una ocasión y más que vendrán en el futuro pues su extensa y de calidad obra da para más de una reseña. Hoy quiero hacer referencia a este nuevo recopilatorio de lo mejor de su carrera, y digo un nuevo recopilatorio porque ya han editado 5, este será el sexto. Realmente me refiero a esta obra por dos motivos, el primero es el tema que dejo en el blog, este "Until the end of days" ya que se trata de un tema completamente nuevo editado para la ocasión, que sin duda no será el más destacado de la historia de la banda, pero que resultará resultón a los seguidores del sonido típico de Stratovarius. El segundo motivo por el que me refiero a este recopilatorio es la extensión del mismo, ya que va a ser editado con tres discos, dos de los temas en estudio con un total de 29 temas de toda su carrera, y un tercer disco con temas grabados en el "Wacken" de 2015, esto representa una excusa perfecta para repasar toda su historia y que hará las delicias de su gran legión de seguidores a lo largo y ancho del planeta. Canciones para una vida - Thornbridge - Blow Up The Gates Of Hell

BLOW UP THE GATES OF HELL

 Nueva banda de power metal desde Alemania, otra de las minas más productivas del metal europeo y mundial. En esta ocasión se llaman Thornbridge, una banda que se formó en 2008 y que en este 2016 han dado un paso adelante para editar su debut "What will prevail". Para hacernos una idea rápida de lo que tenemos entre manos diré, si te gusta Orden Ogan, esta banda tiene las bases para gustarte también, y es que, indudablemente en las primeras escuchas mi cabeza automáticamente se ha ido en esa dirección, en la de sus compatriotas Orden Ogan, lo cual, en mi opinión, es una buena idea, me parece un gran espejo en el que mirarse, una de las bandas que más me gustan dentro del power metal actual y que en mi humilde opinión deberían tener un mayor reconocimiento del que han cosechado. De cualquier manera, estos "Thornbridge", es su primer larga duración creo que apuntan descaradamente en esa dirección. El disco en general me parece un interesante trabajo, como digo si te gusta el power metal limpio de la escuela europea, con varios temas que me han llamado la atención como por ejemplo "The Dragon's Reborn" que ya he dejado en el blog o el que hoy dejo, este "Blow up the gates of hell", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Wisdom - Rise Of The Wise

RISE  OF  THE  WISE

Nueva obra de los húngaros Wisdom, una de esas bandas que están en plena forma optando obra tras obra a una de las posiciones de honor en lo que al Power metal europeo se refiere. En la onda de todo lo anteriormente publicado, un limpio power metal, muy fácil de escuchar, que se queda fácil en tu cabeza con pocas escuchas. Este "Rise of the Wise" es el cuarto ya larga duración del grupo. En 2004 editan su primer EP, "Wisdom". Será continuado en 2006 con la edición de su primer larga duración "Words of Wisdom", habiendo firmado ya con la discográfica "Hammer Records", siendo el álbum masterizado en los "Finnvox Studios", garantía de calidad. Con estas premisas de calidad y el talento del dúo solo era cuestión de tiempo que diesen que hablar. Un segundo EP en 2007, "At the gates" que hizo crecer aún más las expectativas ante el segundo disco de la banda. Esta segunda obra en formato LP se graba finalmente en 2011, bajo el título de "Judas", la confirmación esperada ante el potencial inmenso de la banda, y es que se trata de un gran disco, del que hablaremos en este blog. Dos años más tarde, y con una reputación ya forjada en hechos y no en promesas lanzan su tercer larga duración, un disco titulado "marching for liberty", en el que no dejan lugar a dudas de su calidad y buen hacer musical siendo ya toda una realidad en la escena europea. Este cuarto LP parece demostrar que han encontrado un camino personal y sin duda tienen ese sello propio, con por ejemplo con la inclusión de Anton Kabanen, ex de Battle Beast a la guitarra, un importante refuerzo pues era la mente compositiva de la mayor parte de los temas en la citada banda finlandesa Battle Beast o la colaboración de lujo de Joakim Broden de Sabaton en el tema que da título a la obra, tema del que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Grimner - Mot Jotunheim

MOT  JOTUNHEIM

 Grimner es un grupo que hace un viking folk metal, apoyado en buenísimas melodías con un fondo de black death metal melódico, y unas letras cantadas en sueco y basadas en la mitología nórdica tienen todos los elementos para hacer disfrutar a los amantes del género. La banda comienza su andadura en 2008,  y desde ese instante han editado un EP "A call for battle", en 2010, y tres LP's, el primero, "Fard" del que ya he hablado en el blog, del año 2012, el segundo, de título "Blodshymner", del pasado 2014, y del que quiero dejar en el blog hoy una de sus canciones, y el más nuevo y al que recientemente he hecho referencia en el blog,  "Frost Mot Eld", de este 2016. En la música de Grimner nos encontramos una cierta variedad en el sonido, alternando algunos temas más "agresivos" más centrados en el black y otros con un "alegre" baño folk, aunque en general abunda la inclusión de elementos tradicionales como flautas o mandolinas en sus composiciones. Como decía más arriba hoy quiero dejar en el blog uno de los temas de su segunda obra "Blodshymner", en concreto su "Mot Jotunheim", una de las canciones que más me gustan del disco y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Bloodbound - Satanic Panic

SATANIC  PANIC

 

Última obra hasta la fecha de esta reseña de la banda sueca BloodBound. Ya he hablado de ellos en este blog,y de esta obra incluso y como ya dije, Bloodbound se formó en 2004 y hace un power metal muy clásico y de buen nivel, eso sí, tienes que ser de los que les guste el sonido "Hammerfalliano". Tienen 6 discos de estudio editados desde el 2006 y en ese tiempo ha habido reestructuraciones en su formación habiendo ya pasado por la misma tres vocalistas diferentes. Si les escuchas, en un principio te das cuenta de que no han descubierto nada nuevo, sin embargo si escuchas su dicografía si que encontrarás buenos temas y una evolución a mejor, o a "más cuidado", aunque eso no siempre va de la mano de la calidad, de cualquier forma  la culminación es este disco que se han sacado de la chistera en 2014 de título "Stormborn". Parece que la estabilidad va llegando a la banda así como un asentamiento en su estilo y eso se nota mucho en esta última obra que promete hacer que mucha gente engrose las filas de sus seguidores. Temas a destacar, muchos, pues se trata de un disco de un nivel alto, que hará las delicias de sus seguidores de Hammerfall y compañía, y de todo el que le guste el Power metal de calidad. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otro de los temas de este álbum, en concreto este "Satanic Panic", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.
