SEASONSPEECH

Elvenking es una banda italiana cuya base es una música de raíces folk con un fondo de Power metal, aunque su música es difícil de encasillar por el marcado estilo personal que tiene la banda, que bebe musicalmente de estilos tan dispares como el folk, el hard rock, el metal progresivo, el power metal, e incluso el pop y la música clásica, aunque su estilo ha ido evolucionando a medida que sacaban discos (a peor en mi humilde opinión). Han editado hasta la fecha de esta reseña un total de 8 discos de estudio entre los años 2001 y 2014, presentando los componentes del grupo pseudónimos en lugar de sus propios nombres. El grupo se forma en 1997, por dos guitarristas, Aydan y Jarpen. Pronto se les unirá Sargon como bajista y ya en 1998 Damnagoras como cantante y el batería Zender. En 2000 graban su demo "To oak woods bestowed" que les abriría las puertas de "AFM Records" con quienes firman para editar su primer (y para mi gusto mejor) Larga Duración "Heathenreel" en 2001. Sargon había dejado la banda y para entonces Damnagoras se había hecho cargo del bajo además de la voz. Tras grabar el disco Gorlan, amigo de los dos guitarristas del grupo ingresa en la banda como bajista. La buena acogida del disco entre la crítica mundial desemboca en una gira con nada menos que con Blind Guardian, Gamma Ray, Edguy o Virgin Steele. Con tales comienzos se preveía un buen futuro al grupo, pero un primer bache llega a la banda cuando Damnagoras debe dejar el  grupo por motivos de salud en 2002, siendo sustituido brillantemente por Kleid, con un registro vocal similar a Damnagoras, y con quien el grupo graba su segundo LP "Wyrd" en una línea similar al "Heathenreel". En 2004 y ya recuperado de sus problemas Damnagoras vuelve al grupo grabando "The winter Wake" en 2006, pero habiendo en 2005 sufrido la perdida del unos de los guitarristas fundadores, Jarpen, quien decide dejar la banda viendo los derroteros musicales que comenzaba a tener Elvenking. Desde este disco, "The winter wake", (más que potable), en adelante, la banda fue tornandose en un grupo más anónimo aunque con un nombre bien hecho, pero la garra y el sello Elvenking se han ido diluyendo obra tras obra, y sin dejar de ser un buen grupo, no llegan en mi humilde opinión a los niveles de sus tres primeras obras y sobre todo de su debut "Heathenreel". Y es de este disco del que hoy quiero dejar otra canción en el blog, de las muchas que se pueden escoger de esa buena obra. Hoy quiero recomendar su "Seasonspeech", donde dejan bien claro el potencial que tenían en sus inicios y que seguramente en ellos sigue. Una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Amorphis - Tree Of Ages

TREE OF AGES

Amorphis es otra de esas bandas que no necesitan de mucha presentación. Difícil encasillarlos en un solo estilo, así pues su nombre "Amorphis", procedente y adaptado de la palabra griega "amorphous" (Sin Forma), adaptándola a su difícil etiquetado en cuanto a estilo, resulta muy apropiado. De origen finlandés, este grupo se ha ido moviendo musicalmente hablando desde un Death metal, doom, con elementos progresivos de sus inicios, a un heavy metal, más melódico, menos death y más cercano en ocasiones a un folk heavy - rock progresivo, como digo dificil encasillarlos. La banda se forma en 1990, cuando Jan Rechberger y Esa Holopainen, provenientes de un grupo Thrash en el que por entonces estaban metidos, llamado "Violent Solution", deciden enfocar sus esfuerzos musicales a un nuevo proyecto, más enfocado hacia el death metal, enrolándose entonces Tomi Koivusaari como cantante y Oppu Laine como bajista, editando en 1991 una demo "Disment of soul" a través de los "TTT Studios", nada menos que de Timo Tolkki. En 1991 editan su primer sencillo "Amorphis" que les da la ocasión de firmar con "Relapse records" quien se encargaría de editar sus dos primeros LP's. El primero de estos LP's fue "The Karelian Ishtmus" en 1992, seguido de un EP, "Privilege of evil" en 1993 y de su segundo Larga Duración " Tales from a thousand lakes" en 1994. A lo largo de su carrera musical han editado 12 LP's y 3 EP's, además de los muchos Singles como corresponde a una banda con tanto potencial de ventas como esta. La banda ha tenido bastante establilidad con los años en escena, Esa Holopainen y Tomi Koivusaari, son los dos unicos miembros que han estado presentes en cada una de las obras de Amorphis, aunque Jan Rechberger o Pasi Koskinen han ido y venido estando presentes en la mayoría de sus trabajos, así, en general varios músicos han ocupado los puestos de la banda pero yendo y viniendo siempre alrededor de esta gran banda. Tras la marcha definitiva de Pasi Koskinen en el puesto de vocalista,Tommi Joutsen entra en el grupo y eso cambió bastante el devenir del grupo, pues desde su entrada su popularidad y éxito fueron en aumento, fichaje por "Nuclear Blast" y sus últimas cinco obras, (con Tommi Joutsen), les han llevado a ser una de las bandas más reconocidas de Europa. Hoy quiero hablar de la última parte de su historia para referirme a su último disco hasta la fecha de esta reseña, el recién salido "under the red cloud", el sexto disco con Joutsen al frente, para hablar de una obra que promete (a pesar de decirlo aún con las precauciones de deberle aún varias escuchas atentas), pues promete dar que hablar, un giro quizá un poco más Folk, con incluso algunas reminiscencias a bandas como Amon Amarth, Eluveitie o Ensiferum como ocurre sobre todo en temas como este que hoy quiero dejar en el blog, "Tree of ages", una canción con un toque muy folk de la que dejo un enlace en esta ocasión a VBOX7, ya que de momento en youtube la maquinaria de una discografica +un superventas está impidiendo de momento que esté el video.

Canciones para una vida - Impellitteri - Warrior

WARRIOR

Impellitteri es una banda estadounidense centrada en la figura del virtuoso guitarrista Chris Impellitteri, y cuyo sonido se basa en un heavy metal con un aire un poco más speed, algo neoclásico y con un toque "Shred" casi omnipresente, lo que le da un innegable aire al sonido de Yngwie Malmsteen, solo que de corte menos europeo, como su origen dice, más americano. Sus primeros pasos en el negocio los da autoproduciéndose en 1986 un disco instrumental completamente. En 1987 decide rodearse de buenos músicos y comienza ahí realmente su historia como banda. En ese mismo 1987 edita su primer material de estudio titulado "Impelliteri", junto a Rob Rock en funciones de cantante, que será seña de identidad de la banda en el futuro casi al mismo nivel que la guitarra de Chris. En 1988 edita su primer LP, "Stand in line", (del que hablare en el blog), y para la ocasión el cantante escogido fue Graham Bonnet, uno de los músicos que formaron MSG y Rainbow, Phil Wolfe al teclado, el Ex Quiet Riot Chuck Wright al bajo y el batería Pat Torpey, ex de Ted Nugent. Con Tal formación solo edita este disco y tras ser acusado de plagiar un sonido muy "Rainbow" decide nuevos cambios en el grupo para el futuro. A pesar de ello, "Stand in Line" funciona muy bien siendo incluido su videoclip en la MTV, lo que le da una gran repercusión. Decide volver a la voz de Rob Rock que aparece en todos los trabajos de la banda desde 1992 hasta 2000, y desde 2008 en adelante. En total la banda ha editado 10 LP's y tres EP's. Hoy quiero dejar un tema de su segundo EP, "Victim of the system", de 1993, aunque no aparece habitualmente en las versiones "standard" del EP, siempre la encuentro asociada a esta obra, así que como perteneciente a ella la pongo en el blog, un tema con mucho gancho y como un buen ejemplo del sonido de esta banda que volverá al blog en futuras ocasiones, dejo un enlace a youtube de este "Warrior".

Canciones para una vida - Imperanon - Sold

SOLD

Imperanon fueron una banda finlandesa de breve duración en la escena metalica internacional, con una música basada en un death metal melódico, muchas veces comparada a Children Of Bodom, aunque, personalmente, a mi me parece que tienen un estilo un poco diferente. El grupo lo froman el batería Jaakko Nylund, (Force Majeure, Whispered o Finntroll (Live)), y el guitarrista Asko Sartanen en 1999. Poco después se les une Aleksi Sihvonen a la guitarra (Ex de Norther), y Eki Nurmikari al bajo. Con esa formación la banda graba su primera demo en 2002, año en que comienzan algunos cambios en el grupo, así el guitarrista Asko Sartanen deja el grupo y le sustituye Teemu Mäntysaari (Wintersun), y se incorpora el teclista Aleksi Virta, (Finntroll). En 2003 editan su segunda demo, tachada por la critica local como poco original, aunque eso sí, poseedora de una técnica envidiable para los amantes del death metal melódico. En 2004 y tras firmar por Nuclear Blast editan su primer y único LP, el magnífico "Stained", del que hoy quiero dejar un tema en el blog. La banda desaparecería definitivamente en 2007. El disco es una gran obra para los amantes del estilo, un death melódico con reminiscencias de Children of Bodom o Norther, aunque con un toque personal, y del que se pueden destacar temas de calidad como este "Sold" del que quiero dejar hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Forefather - Wudugast

WUDUGAST


Originarios de Inglaterra, es un grupo que se crea en 1997 por dos hermanos multi instrumentistas, Athelstan que se encarga de bajo, guitarra, teclado y partes vocales, y Wulfstan, que pone la voz principal, y además bajo y guitarra. Su música es un black viking metal con lírica anglosajona principalmente por lo que ellos han dado en llamar a su estilo anglo saxon metal. Alternan voces black con partes más limpias y tienen muchas partes instrumentales así como momentos con coros de voces limpias y temas cantados en total con voces claras. El resultado final es muy bueno y el grupo creo yo que debería tener una mayor aceptación viendo el impresionante potencial que atesoran, pues sus canciones son un continuo derroche de melodía con un gran sentido compositivo. En 1999 Forefather sacan su primer LP, al que seguirán otros 6, el último de los cuales es este "Curse of the cwelled" en el presente 2015. Además han sacado música bajo el nombre de Athelstan, un disco hace un par de años muy en la onda de forefather solo que instrumental. También podemos encontrar el sello de estos hermanos en algunas de las composiciones de la banda internacional Folkearth para la que han compuesto e interpretado alguna canción.La música de este grupo me parece espectacular, una propuesta con los elementos justos y necesarios de muchos ingredientes diferentes que le da ese sabor propio y de calidad, tan personal que es Forefather. Ya he acudido a su discografía en varias ocasiones para traer su música al blog, y más veces volveré a ellos, inevitablemente, atendiendo a su calidad. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un tema de su "Our is the kingdom", de 2004, cuarta obra de estudio de los ingleses, un álbum potente y lleno de buen material, con argumentos suficientes para gustar no solo al amante del folk metal, su base debe agradar a todo amante del buen heavy metal en general, de ello se encargan temas como el que hoy quiero dejar en el blog, "Wudugast", del que dejo un enlace a youtube, y es que no me cansaré de decirlo, una banda enormemente menospreciada si tenemos en cuenta su sonido y ya su amplia y de calidad discografía.

Canciones para una vida - Twilight Of The Gods - Fire On The Mountain

FIRE ON THE MOUNTAIN

Vamos ahora con un proyecto internacional que incluye a miembros de Suecia, Noruega, Irlanda e Inglaterra, son Twilight of the Gods, un grupo que nace en 2010 con la intención de ser una banda tributo de Bathory. Con tal intención firman con la discográfica "Season of Mist" para embarcarse en una gira presentando en directo el material de la banda de culto. En 2011, y tras ofrecerles regrabar material de Bathory y un DVD en vivo de sus actuaciones la banda se niega, y en su lugar, y viendo la buena química que había entre los cinco miembros de la banda deciden grabar su propio material, y deciden centrarse en un sonido heavy clásico, con alguna partes épicas. En 2013 ve la luz su primer y hasta la fecha de esta reseña, único LP, "Fire on the mountain", un disco al que podríamos acotar musicalmente hablando como una mezcla del estilo del Manilla Road, o Virgin Steele, con unas pinceladas Bathory o de los primeros Manowar, todo ellos embutido en un sonido técnicamente del siglo XXI, una obra que es aconsejable escuchar, y de la que hoy quiero dejar uno de sus temas, concretamente su "Fire on the mountain", que da nombre al album y de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Thin Lizzy - Renegade

ANGEL OF DEATH

Los Irlandeses Thin Lizzy son una de esas bandas clásicas y fundamentales para entender el desarrollo de parte del heavy y el hard rock. Fomados en 1969 el grupo fue impulsado al inicio por el batería Brian Downey y el guitarrista y cantante Phil Lynott quien fue corazón y alma del grupo mientras estuvo en activo, músico que murió en 1986 y con su pérdida la banda no editó material nuevo desde entonces. Así pues su periodo de actividad se extiende entre los años 1969 y 1984, aunque ha seguido editándose material de la banda en forma de recopilaciones de una forma casi anual, en forma directamente de recopilaciones, de directos o de singles y maxis hasta el mimo 2012, en que se edita, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, el enésimo y último de ellos en forma de "caja con una selección de sus clásicos". En su periodo de actividad, es decir con Lynott en la banda antes de su muerte, el grupo edita 12 LP's + 6 EP's, con temas clásicos y fundamentales del grupo como "Whiskey in the jar", "Jailbreak" o "The boys are back in town", considerados como clásicos de gran influencia en el desarrollo de nuestro sonido, con todo merecimiento, además por la magnitud de algunos de los músicos que pasaron por sus filas, nombre de la talla de, además del propio Phil Lynott, Gary Moore, John Sykes, o el teclista Darren Wharton que después crearía la banda hard-aor melódica "Dare". Hoy quiero echar un vistazo a la parte final de su carrera, (compositivamente hablando), para referirme a su penúltimo disco de estudio, Renegade, de 1981, un disco que llegaba tras el aclamado "Chinatown" de 1980. En "Renegade" se presenta como teclista a Darren Wharton, y el disco se ha criticado mucho como el declive de la carrera de la banda, con un Lynott "adicto a todo", algo que años más tarde desembocaría en su muerte prematura a los 36 años de edad. Sin embargo, el disco tiene un potencial enorme a pesar de no ser la mejor de sus obras en cuanto a entrega, y de ella se pueden extraer buenos temas, como por ejemplo este "Angel of death" que abre el disco, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Cans - Beyond The Gates

FIELDS OF YESTERDAY

Cans es un proyecto en solitario del cantante de Hammerfall Joacim Cans, un proyecto centrado en el power metal que hace su banda madre, con una linea compositiva similar si no clónica. El proyecto hasta la fecha de esta reseña ha visto editada tan solo una obra de estudio, este "Beyond the gates", de 2004, del que hoy traigo al blog una de sus canciones. Teóricamente había previsión para editar una segunda obra en 2008, algo que de momento no ha sucedido, en teoría por la apretada agenda que Cans debe afrontar con su banda madre Hammerfall que le debe quitar todo el tiempo musical para otros proyectos. En el proyecto Cans se ha sabido rodear de músicos de primerísima línea lo que ha dado como resultado un disco de excelente calidad técnica y de un nivel compositivo que hará las delicias de los seguidores de Hammerfall. Los músicos a que hago referencia son algunos militantes o Exmilitantes de Hammerfall, como Fredrik Larsson al bajo, Stefan Elmgren a la guitarra, además del propio Joacim Cans a la voz, además nombres importantes como Snowy Shaw a la batería, (Dream Evil, King Diamond, y un largo etc.) o Mat Sinner al bajo y acompañando a la voz, entre otros grandes nombres, lo que nos da una garantía de calidad en la obra. Se pueden destacar varios temas de la obra, algunos realmente enganchones como "The Key", "Red Light" o este "Fileds of Yesterday" que abre la obra y del que quiero dejar hoy un enlace a youtube.

Ya hemos hablado antes de Blind Guardian en este blog, y en general poco hay que decir que ya no se sepa de esta extraordinaria banda alemana, tan solo una breve referencia a su largo historial musical. Blind Guardian se formó en 1984 en Alemania, bajo el nombre de Lucifer's Heritage, con el que funcionaron hasta 1986, en que cambian a Blind Guardian. Los miembros fundadores fueron Hansi Kursch y Andre Olbrich, incorporándose al poco tiempo Thomen Stauch y Marcus Siepen. De ellos solo Thomen Stauch ha dejado la banda en 2005. Algunos otros músicos han pasado por el grupo y grandes colaboraciones como la de Kai Hansen, pero en general Blind Guardian han tenido mucha estabilidad en su formación. Influenciados por la literatura, (sobre todo Tolkien y Stephen King) y el cine, sus letras hacen referencia a esos temas y en ocasiones ayudan a la linea argumental de canciones de la banda o incluso de discos enteros. Tienen 10 discos de estudio, a cual mejor, lo que les ha creado un nombre entre los grupos internacionales más respetados dentro de nuestro mundillo. Quiero hoy hacer referencia a uno de sus mejores discos a mi entender, el Imaginations from the other side, de 1995, con unos Blind Guardian ya en su cenit, y en plena forma, un disco con temas memorables en esta su quinta obra de estudio, de la que pueden destacarse todos y cada uno de los temas, y en más ocasiones recurriremos a esta auténtica joya de los 90, de la banda y del heavy metal en general. Hoy quiero dejar el tema homónimo en el blog al titulo del disco, "Imaginations from the other side", un tema perfecto para engancharte y obligarte a quedarte durante toda la obra enganchado más que nunca al sonido de los bardos, un temazo del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Galderia - Land Of Galderia

LAND OF GALDERIA


Galderia es un grupo francés de power metal que se forma en 2006. En su periodo de existencia han editado dos EP's y un LP, hasta la fecha de esta reseña. El grupo lo crea Seb, guitarrista y cantante principal, como digo en 2006. Pronto se unen a él Tom a la guitarra, JC a la batería y Lionel al bajo. Su música podría definirse como un power metal de corte clásico en la tradición de los grupos de Kai Hansen por ejemplo, Gamma Ray o los Helloween de los Keeper, (dicho sea esto con todas las precauciones), pero el estilo es evidente que bebe de esa fuente, un power muy "Happy" también del estilo de Freedom Call a veces. Comienzan a editar material de estudio en 2008, con su EP "The Starlord". A este le sigue el EP "Rise, legions of free men", del que voy a dejar hoy un tema en el blog. Completa su obra hasta el momento su primer larga duración, "The Universality", de 2012. Como decía hoy quiero dejar una canción de su segundo EP,  "Rise, legions of free men", de 2010, donde la banda pone en práctica ese ejercicio melódico, de aire optimista y melodías enganchonas con coros igualmente "happy", muy "FreedomCallianos" como queda especialmente patente en la canción que dejo en el blog, "Land of Galderia", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Distoriam - Hymn To Mead

HYMN TO MEAD

Distoriam es un grupo canadiense que hace un folk metal que ellos mismos autodenomínan como "Epic Historical Folk Metal". Se forman en 2010 bajo el nombre de "Vinlanders" y desde 2011 adoptan el nombre de "Distoriam" con el que siguen desde entonces. En su breve historia como grupo hasta la fecha de esta reseña han editado un EP "Les Voyageurs", y un LP, "Chapter I : Vinlanders", ambos de 2015. Con un innegable aire europeo su música de debate entre un estilo directo y melódico con arreglos a partes iguales, voces limpias y ásperas se reparten el protagonismo y un cierto aire épico y vikingo revolotéa por su concepto musical. Sus letras están escritas en inglés y francés salvo la intro escrita en nórdico. La influencia black-death melódica esta también presente en su obra y cuenta con un elevado número de miembros que se reparten las labores musicales, con la inclusión de instrumentos tradicionales como, mandolina, flauta, zanfoña, pibgorn (instrumento de viento galés), Buzuki irlandés, (una especie de laud o bandurria), además de guitarra, bajo, batería, teclados, y voz gutural o áspera, o black (como se quiera), y limpia, chico y chica. La verdad es que teniendo en cuenta que es un disco debut de un grupo bastante joven y nuevo resulta ser un material para dedicarle una escucha y su propuesta me resulta suficientemente interesante para seguir un poco su carrera en el futuro, veremos por donde salen. Hay temas interesantes en esta obra por lo tanto, tales como "Us, Travelers," "Thúnn Kivavit Ankriss," "Vinlanders - Defend the Land", "Venturing Forth" con su videoclip o "Hymn to mead" de la que hoy quiero dejar un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Sword - Runaway

RUNAWAY

Sword fue una banda canadiense de Heavy metal - Hard "n" heavy, formada en 1980 con un periodo de actividad no demasiado largo en el tiempo pues apenas extendió su existencia a toda la década de los 80. Otro de esos grupos con gran calidad y con ese sonido "americano" tan de la época. Durante su existencia editaron dos LP's antes de su separación a finales de los 80. Todo comenzó cuando Rick y Dan Hughes (Vocalista y batería respectivamente) formaron "Sword" en 1980. A ellos se une Mike Plant a la guitarra y Mike LaRocke al bajo. Firman su primer contrato musical en 1984 con el sello independiente canadiense "Aquarius Records" con quienes graban sus dos únicos albumes de estudio, "Metalized", en 1986 y "Sweet Dreams" en 1988. Después de su segunda obra, y tras no lograr despuntar en el mar de grupos de este estilo que inundaban la escena musical internacional deciden separarse para teóricamente reunirse en 2011 aunque sin editar nada nuevo hasta la fecha de esta reseña. Tras su separación, el cantante Rick hughes formó "Saints and Sinners" banda con la que realizó su única obra de homónimo título. Volviendo a "Sword", quiero dejar en el blog un tema de su primera obra de estudio, el fantástic y absolutamente infravalorado "Metalized", como decía de 1986, de la que quiero hoy destacar otro de sus temas, "Runaway", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gamma Ray - Opportunity

OPPORTUNITY

Cuando kai Hansen salio de Helloween en 1989, formó este grupo, sin en principio grandes pretensiones, y tras haber pasado un tiempo haciendo colaboraciones con otras bandas como Blind Guardian. Es en ese mismo 1989 cuando decide formar Gamma Ray, junto a otros músicos como Ralf Scheepers, hasta entonces vocalista de Tyran Pace. En 1990 editan su primera obra de estudio que es inmediatamente un rotundo éxito, como no podía ser de otra manera pues estamos ante uno de los "reyes Midas" en esto del Heavy que parecen convertir en oro todo lo que tocan. Desde entonces y hasta la fecha de esta reseña 11 discos de estudio y 3 EP's hablan de un grupo consolidado en lo más alto de la cima metálica. Tras el "Land  of the free" de 1995, su cuarta obra de estudio, Kai Hansen se haría con las funciones de vocalista, al igual que lo hiciera ya antes en Helloween en sus inicios, tras la salida de Gamma Ray de Ralf Scheepers en 1994 por supuestas razones logísticas de la banda. Hoy quiero hablar de una secuela de aquel cuarto exitoso disco de Gamma Ray, que evidentemente titularon "Land of the free II", en 2007, y que también evidentemente no llegó a la extraordinaria calidad de la de 1995, aunque eso si, el buen diseño de marketing que hicieron unido a la calidad no ausente de la obra les hizo alcanzar por ejemplo en número 1 en las listas de ventas alemanas, entre otros motivos por la gira que realizaron junto a Helloween en el tour de presentación del disco en al que terminaban tocando ambas bandas juntas. En cuanto a las canciones, buenos temas componen este disco, aunque a mi entender el nombre de "Land of the Free II" le queda un poco grande, si bien canciones como "Opportunity", "Into the storm", "when the world" o "Real World" dejan clara la calidad de la obra. Quiero hoy dejar un enlace a youtube de su canción "Opportunity", un tema que engaña en su inicio con la promesa de ser una "power ballad" marca de la casa Gamma Ray, para en realidad tornarse con el paso de unos segundos en un tema más contundente, un par de pasos más adelante de lo que llamaríamos un medio tiempo, y en todo caso una canción que a mi personalmente me gusta mucho.

Canciones para una vida - Holocaust - Only As Young As You Feel

ONLY AS YOUNG AS YOU FEEL


 Holocaust son otra de esas bandas británicas, (escocesa en esta ocasión), que surgen a finales de los 70 y comienzos de los 80, asociadas al sonido de la llamada NWOBHM. Formados en 1977, habiendo editado bajo este nombre de Holocaust siete discos de estudio más cinco EP's. Originalmente lo forman los guitarristas John Mortimer y Ed Dudley, el vocalista Gary Lettice, el bajista Robin Begg y el batería Nick Brockie. Con esta formación sacan su primer EP, "Heavy metal mania" en 1980, con un heavy metal de corte clásico muy influido por Black Sabbath o Judas Priest, pero también por Led Zeppelin o Rush. Ante esta dualidad de estilos entre el heavy metal y el hard rock, Ed Dudley deja Holocaust en 1983 para formar "Hologram" más orientado al hard rock. Mientras, el resto de la banda sigue con Holocaust, que parece seguir en activo hasta el presente aunque su producción musical desde 2003 se limite tan solo a un EP, "expander", en 2013. He querido hoy acercarme a su primer EP, de 1980, del que quiero dejar otro de sus temas, en esta ocasión "Only as young as you feel", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gloryhammer - Universe On Fire

UNIVERSE ON FIRE

Gloryhammer es un proyecto del cantante, compositor y teclista de la banda escocesa Alestorm Christopher Bowes, un proyecto encaminado mas hacia el power metal saliéndose del sonido folk pirata de su banda madre y acercándose para mi gusto al sonido de discos como el primero en solitario de Luca Turilli. Ya hemos hablado en el blog de su disco debut del que dejamos hace meses un tema , y hoy quiero traer su segundo LP, "Space 1992: Rise of the chaos wizards", un disco al que aún debo alguna escucha más en profundidad pero que descaradamente sigue las lineas generales de su anterior "Tales from the kingdom of Fife", aunque con una temática diferente pasando del ambiente lírico medieval al futurista y espacial escenario de turno, un cambio un tanto osado en lo que a estética se refiere, que no tanto a su sonido. Como antes decía referente al sonido que me recuerda al primer material de Luca Turilli, incluso si nos ponemos a mirar la segunda obra del guitarrista italiano en solitario vemos que este también salto de un medievo fantástico propio de sus compañeros "Rhapsody" en su primera obra, a un escenario espacial en la segunda.... parece un espejo en el que se esté mirando el bueno de Christopher Bowes, siguiendo la estela dejada hace ya década y media por Turilli.... si así fuese esperemos que se ponga a mirar hacia otro lugar viendo la deriva que el trabajo del guitarrista transalpino ha tomado desde los últimos 6 o 7 años, y que tampoco ese camino le lleve, (como si que hizo Turilli con Rhapsody), a abandonar a su banda madre Alestorm, sinceramente no creo... y espero... En definitiva vemos una linea musical muy en sintonía con su anterior y bastante bien tratado por crítica y público "Tales from the kingdom of Fife". Hoy quiero dejar otro de los temas de esta obra, "Space 1992: Rise of the chaos wizards", de este 2015, concretamente "Universe on fire", tema del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube. Por cierto, el crecimiento de la banda se hace también, patente en la gira que van a hacer por Europa al lado de nada menos que Stratovarius, y que les ha traido por ejemplo a España la última semana del pasado Octubre.
