Fili Bibiano's Fortress - Night City

NIGHT  CITY 

Muchas son las bandas que han escogido el nombre de Fortress para desarrollar su carrera musical, hoy quiero referirme a una de las también varias bandas estadounidenses que lo han hecho, en concreto a la impulsada por el guitarrista Filiberto Bibiano, que puntualmente pasase por la más conocida banda Witherfall entre los años 2017 y 2018. En 2016 nace el grupo y en 2018 comienza a publicar material, en ese año en formato EP, luego, a fecha de esta reseña, dos LP's de estudio dan forma a su discografía, el segundo de ellos de este 2026, casi recién publicado este pasado 31 de enero. Heavy metal de cierto regusto clásico, un poquito recordando a ese hard'n heavy ochenterote, del que dejo hoy en el blog, de su segunda obra "Death is your master" la canción "Night city" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Wizard - Angel Of Death

ANGEL  OF  DEATH 

Vamos ahora con los veteranos alemanes Wizard, otra banda de las que quedan relegadas a un segundo plano a pesar de la ya extensa discografía que arrastran a sus espaldas y que está llena de momentos como mínimo resultones, quizá no sea una banda de discos completos que pueda llegar a hacerse un tanto monótonos, pero si encontramos canciones destacables en todas sus doce obras en formato LP que de momento, a fecha de esta reseña, constituyen su discografía. Ya llevan en silencio compositivo desde 2021, buen momento para repasar alguna de sus obras, por ejemplo la décima de ellas, "Trail of death" de 2013, y de la que dejo hoy en el blog su cancioón "Angel of death" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Legendaria - Brothers

 

BROTHERS 

Otra banda más que da sus primeros pasos con la promesa de grandes cosas solo a través de su único single a fecha de esta reseña, se trata de los noruegos Legendaria a traves de su canción "Brothers" publicada a finales del pasado mes de enero. Hablamos de power metal, de corte europeo, para nada oscuro, como la escena natal de la banda suele aconsejar, se trata de un europower muy de sus vecinos suecos por ejemplo, muy nórdico, muy eficaz por lo tanto, esperemos que sea solo el preludio de un disco en formato LP de proxima publicación que actualmente desconozco. Conorach - The Oaken Shield

THE  OAKEN  SHIELD 

Conorach fue una banda de power folk metal holandesa que estuvo en activo desde 2007 hasta 2021 en que se disolvieron. Solo dos LP's de estudio conforman su discografía, el primero de ellos en 2008 "Tales from the tavern" y el segundo de 2014 "Through the ages". Con un sonido que a muchos que desconaozcan a la banda les sorprenderá por lo afilado de su propuesta que sin duda hubiese merecido mayor premio en lo referente al reconocimiento general. Vandor - One With The Night

 

ONE  WITH  THE  NIGHT

Parece que los suecos Vandor siguen dando pasos adelante en su carrera iniciada hace poco más de una década (2015), y a través de su tercer LP de estudio "The ember eye part II, the portal of truth" continúan con su concepto lírico que les acompaña a lo largo de su carrera, afilando la parte musical cada vez más hacia ese tipo de europower enganchón, en este tercer disco con más filo que nunca. Korpiklaani - Midsummer Night

MIDSUMMER  NIGHT 

Los finlandeses Korpiklaani son otra de esas bandas de marcada personalidad compositiva, muy reconocibles en cada una de sus obras y pudiendoseles considerar ya como una banda veterana puesto que se formaron en 2003 y han publicado ya, a fecha de esta reseña, 12 LP's de estudio, el tercero de los cuales, "Tales along this road" lo publican en 2006, y de dicha obra quiero hoy dejar en el blog su canción "Midsummer Night" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Angus McSix - Dig Down

DIG  DOWN 

Completa sensación de crecimiento del proyecto "Angus McSix", tras su debut espectacular de 2023 que en este 2026 tendrá continuidad con "Angus McSix and the all seeing eye" que verá la luz de forma oficial en el mes de marzo. Desde luego contar en una banda con Seeb Levermann es ya de por si una garantía de calidad, y si salvamos el problema del "pluriempleo" compositivo del genial músico, el resultado solo puede ser bueno, veremos hasta donde llega este barco, de momento promete. U.D.O. - Decadent

 

DECADENT 

La carrera en solitario de Udo Dirkschneider es una demostración de fidelidad a un sonido, de que había para él vida musical después de su salida de Accept, algo que al principio muchos dudaron tras su primer periodo volando solo, no por la calidad indudable de sus trabajos iniciales entre 1987 y 1991 (nada menos que cuatro magnificos LP's) sino más bien por su segunda (y breve) etapa en Accept tras la que sin más dudas continuó su camino en solitario brillando durante largo tiempo más que su banda madre Accept. En 2015 el grupo editaba su décimo quinto LP de estudio, "Decadent", del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog su tema homónimo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

SANITY 

Segundo adelanto del incombustible Axel Rudi Pell, del que será ya vigésimo tercer LP de estudio, "Ghost Town" que verá la luz de forma oficial el 20 de marzo de este 2026. Poco que añadir siempre a una obra de este genial guitarrista, poca innovación, perpetuando una vez más su sonido, pero imagino que nadie quiere que el reconocible estilo de Axel cambie, se antoja casi imposible de hecho. Enthring - We Thrive On Chaos

WE  THRIVE  ON  CHAOS 

Los finlandeses han sido uno de los grandes creadores de death melódico desde la explosión de este sonido, si bien los orígenes del mismo y un grueso importante de bandas provengan de sus vecinos suecos, sin embargo muchos grupos de gran nivel en ese subgénero tienen nacionalidad finlandesa. Una de esas bandas, aunque no se haya prodigado excesivamente, es Enthring, formados en 2006 y que solo han publicado un LP además de tres EP's. Otra buena banda que retorna a la senda compositiva en este 2026 para publicar ya su tercer LP de estudio "Mournbraid" cuya salida oficial se espera para el 20 de marzo, se trata de los suecos Evermore, formados en 2016. Se trata de un power metal de corte europeo, de esos con una cuidada composición, de pulcra producción. Iced Earth - When The Night Falls

 

WHEN  THE  NIGHT  FALLS

A las grandes bandas ya se les ve venir desde sus comienzos, es algo que se tiene o no se tiene y es algo que se nota desde el principio, y desde luego que los estadounidenses Iced Earth lo tienen, (o tenían, veremos si terminan por reactivarse tras su parón en 2021). El caso es que su propuesta compositiva a medio camino de varias cosas les hace atractivos para mucho tipo de público y su sonido desde inicios de la década de los 90 es ya una de esas familiares cosas que uno echa de menos cuando ya no está. Bloodbound - As Empires Fall

 

AS  EMPIRES  FALL 

Ya más de dos décadas de existencia de esta banda, Bloodbound sueca que ha ido encontrando su camino hasta instalarse en su sonido actual, pulido, un tanto predecible, absolutamente limpio y muy vendible, un euro power muy de su escena natal que en este pasado 2025 vio como su undécimo LP de estudio cumplía todas estas premisas compositivas para alegría de sus seguidores. Tyrant - Get Ready

GET  READY 

Los alemanes Tyrant son una de esas interesantes bandas ochenteras, de las que se mantuvieron siempre en una segunda línea pero que demostraron desde el inicio de su carrera, 1981, y durante toda la década que fue su periodo de actividad, a lo largo de sus 4 LP's de estudio, su capacidad para fabricar un heavy metal contundente, con la magia del sonido de la Old School. Supuestamente la banda se reunió de nuevo en 2020, y es uno de esos grupos que tengo ganas de ver de que son capaces tantos años depués. Hoy, repasando de nuevo su discografía quiero dejar una de las canciones de su penúltimo LP, (a fecha de esta reseña), "Running Hot" de 1986, concretamente la canción "Get ready" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

MASKIROVKA 

 Vamos de nuevo con los suecos Ambush, una de esas primeras bandas que se apuntaron a la resurrección del sonido clásico del heavy metal de la vieja escuela, que se viene produciendo desde la primera mitad de la pasada década. Formados en 2013, a fecha de esta reseña han publicado cuatro LP's de estudio, el último de ellos del pasado 2025, "Evil in all dimensions", y del que quiero dejar en el blog hoy otra de sus canciones, hoy "Markirovka" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Mantas - Let It Rock

LET  IT  ROCK 

La escena general del heavy metal a finales de los ochenta cambiaba, sobre todo desde un punto de vista puro, de sonido heavy metal como tal, se hibridaba para adaptarse a las necesidades de los oyentes, y una de esas mezclas era el hard 'n heavy que por ejemplo esta banda británica Mantas, practicó en se debut de 1988. Como digo, 1988 era un año bastante conflictivo para hacer heavy metal crudo, se estilaba un sonido más orientado al hard rock, sobre todo si se quería asaltar el mercado estadounidense. Mantas, que para 1988 acababa de formarse, haría esta buena incursión en el hard 'n heavy "Winds of change", para después caer en un silencio de más de una década, resucitando como grupo en 2004 a través de un segundo disco más orientado al groove industrial, poco o nada que ver con lo hecho en el pasado. Kerrigan - Fighter

 

FIGHTER 

Con un sonido más del otro lado del charco al del lado al que pertenecen, los germanos Kerrigan dan continuidad a su carrera en este recién estrenado 2026 a través de su segundo LP de estudio "Wayfarer", que verá la luz de forma oficial para finales de marzo. Estamos ante la enésima demostración de que a nivel global el renacimiento desde una década para esta parte del heavy metal como sonido, a lo clásico, es toda una realidad. Excelsis - Bluetmond

 

BLUETMOND 

Los suizos Excelsis siempre han seguido su propio camino, desde todos los puntos de vista, desde la forma de diseñar sus composiciones hasta los tiempos y ritmos en la publicación de los mismos, y como resultado tenemos una banda con un marcado sello personal y al mismo tiempo una banda ya longeva (desde 1996) pero con una discografía no tan extensa como ese tiempo de actividad quizás debería indicar (9 LP's de estudio), pero si lo tuyo es el sonido de power con un lado oscuro, bastantes dosis épicas y folk estamos ante una banda fundamental. En 2020 publicaban el que a fecha de esta reseña es su último trabajo de estudio, "Bluetmond" del que dejo hoy en el blog el tema que le da nombre y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Vamos con los polacos Titanium, una de las varias bandas que lo han intentado bajo ese nombre, para, en este 2026, tratar de relanzar su carrera a través de un single tras una década completa de silencio. Hablamos de un heavy power melódico, para nada exento de velocidad, de hecho, podemos encontrar una similitud en el sonido de este grupo con dos bandas, Majestic con un plus de velocidad a lo Dragonforce. Burning Point - The Ignitor

THE  IGNITOR 

Los finlandeses Burning Point son ya una veterana banda nacida en el tramo final de la década de los noventa que han cultivado a lo largo de toda su carrera el power de corte europeo, con una nada despreciable ida y venida de músicos ex de muchas bandas conocidas y que de momento, a fecha de esta reseña, su carrera ha dado para la publicación de ocho LP's de estudio, quizá demasiado espaciados, lo que ha podido limitar su mayor consideración por parte del gran público, algo que atendiendo a su calidad como banda les debería haber bastado para alcanzar mayores cotas de popularidad. En 2012, la banda publicaba su quinto LP de estudio "The Ignitor" del que dejo hoy en el blog el tema que le dio nombre y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Steve Vai - For The Love Of God

FOR  THE  LOVE  OF  GOD 

El guitarrista estadounidense Steve Vai es otro de esos nombres que forman parte de la élite en lo suyo, en este caso en el Shred guitarrero bajo su nombre, así como formando parte de varias bandas y proyectos de primer nivel como también colaborando con infinidad de nombres. Nueve LP's de estudio forman su discografía en solitario, a fecha de esta reseña, el segundo de ellos, "Passion and Warfare" de 1990, es el que hoy traigo al blog, y de él, por supuesto, quiero dejar la inevitable "For the love of god", una pieza de esas que no necesita de más adornos, de más argumentos que el del guitarrista y su guitarra para resultar perfectos, un temazo del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Persian Risk - Hold The Line

HOLD  THE  LINE 

Otra banda más de las nacidas al calor de la NWOBHM, nacida con la década de los ochenta, y una vez más fue una banda de carrera demasiado corta sobre todo teniendo en cuenta los méritos por ejemplo de su debut. De igual manera fue otra banda de las que lo intentarían décadas después con una segunda parte de su carrera en los 10 de este siglo para publicar dos LP's más que no cambiaron su suerte inicial. Así pues, volviendo la vista a los comienzos de estos británicos, hasta 1986 con su debut "Rise Up", quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de la citada obra, concretamente la que la abre, "Hold the line", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
