Vreid - From These Woods

FROM  THESE  WOODS 

Desde tierras noruegas nos llegan los ecos del que será ya el décimo LP de estudio de la banda Vreid, cuyo sonido se enmarca en un black melódico, oscuro, épico, muy de la escena de la que procede. Formados en 2004 de las cenizas de la banda Windir tras la muerte de su frontman Valfar. Un poco siguiendo la misma línea compositiva de la citada banda, el décimo trabajo de Vreid, "The skies turn black", verá su salida oficial a primeros de marzo y de momento nos dejan su adelanto "From these woods" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Defenders Of The Faith - Northern Stones

NORTHERN  STONES 

Nivel altísimo el propuesto por el proyecto sueco "Defenders of the Faith" compuesto por miembros de la banda Therion en su debut de este 2025 "Odes to the gods". Pinta tiene a juzgar por la propuesta, por la acogida y por la calidad de la propuesta de que el proyecto pueda y quizá deba perpetuarse como banda en sí en adelante, solo el tiempo dirá si es así o no. de momento las nueve canciones de la obra (con su par de alternativas) son suficiente motivo como para acercarse y disfrutar de ella, hoy, a través del blog, por ejemplo de su canción "Northern stones" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Amorphis - Crowned In Crimson

CROWNED  IN  CRIMSON 

2025 ha sido testigo no solo de la publicación del décimo sexto LP de estudio de la banda finlandesa Amorphis, sino también de la salida de un nuevo single "Crowned in Crimson" que será incluido en la película finlandesa "Son of revenge - The story of Kalevala" que se estrenará a inicios de 2026. Ajeno a todo, como un reloj suizo, el guitarrista alemán Axel Rudi Pell sigue adelante con su carrera publicando album nuevo cada dos años aproximadamente, y en este inminente 2026 toca ya su vigésimo tercer LP de estudio "Ghost town", que verá la luz de forma oficial el 20 de marzo, y del que en estos días nos deja su primer adelanto,"Ghost town" que dará nombre a la obra. L.O.V.E.  MACHINE

Clásico, en todos los sentidos, el primer LP de los estadounidenses W.A.S.P. llegó en su época (1984) para ser transgresor, para no pasar desapercibido, para marcar su carrera, la de otros, e inscribir en mayúsculas su nombre en el libro del heavy metal. Es la banda algo más que lo sonoro, es el dramatismo implícito a su imagen, y es solo el principio de su propia historia que les ha llevado a los puestos más altos entre las bandas a nivel internacional. No es en absoluto nada nuevo que una discográfica, (en este caso Napalm Records), utilice todos, sus muchos recursos, para arreglar colaboraciones entre bandas que hayan firmado con su sello, creando así además de un potencial grupo nuevo, una posibilidad de ingresos extras y beneficios. Lee Aaron - Lady Of The Darkest Night

 

LADY  OF  THE  DARKEST  NIGHT 

Pionera en una época más complicada que la actual para liderar una banda de heavy, Lee Aaron llegaba a comienzos de los ochenta desde Canada para mostrar al planeta que no era solo una imagen y que su propuesta era tan valida como la de cualquier otra banda independientemente del sexo de sus integrantes. "Metal Queen", de 1984 era el segundo album del grupo y aunque eclipsado por el tema que le daba nombre y al que siempre estuvo supeditada la figura de la cantante, el disco fue algo más, con temas más que interesantes como por ejemplo "Lady of the darkest night" del que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

TRIDENT 

Los suecos Templar son una banda de reciente formación (2022) pero que han decidido seguir la senda del sonido clásico dentro del heavy metal, lo que demuestra que ese tipo de sonido está más de moda que nunca, y claramente la banda ha tenido espejos de su propia escena en los que mirarse, así, uno no puede sino recordar el material clásico de Heavy Load al escuchar temas como este adelanto de su debut en formato LP "Conquering swords" cuya salida oficial se espera para el 27 de enero del ya inminente 2026. Que facil resulta escoger una canción de una obra como esta, de una banda como esta en una época como la de este disco (1984, quinto LP del grupo, creciendo, asentandose y conquistando un planeta entero). Y es que los ochenta y Iron Maiden son sinónimo de perfección, es el germen de un grupo que alcanzó el estatus de legendario por méritos propios, y la obra, perfecta, solo podía tener como secuela una obra en vivo que motraba la presentación en directo a nivel global de Powerslave en el mejor directo que he escuchado jamás, "Live after death" de 1985. Poco que añadir a un mito vivo, solo rescatar otro de los temas que hacen de la obra lo que es, en esta ocasión "The duellists" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

BLOW  YOUR  SPEAKERS 

Vuelta a la época dorada de los estadounidenses Manowar, donde siempre rodeados de las polémicas extramusicales sin embargo estaban más en sintonía de grabación de discos y presentaciones en vivo como cualquier otra banda, algo que hace mucho que no es así. Corría el año 1987 cuando editaban el reconocido "Fighting the world", obra corta pero super completa, poseedora de himnos dentro del grupo y del propio heavy metal, y del que se siguen nutriendo para sus presentaciones en vivo, y de esa obra dejo hoy en el blog este otro tema, "Blow your speakers" del que dejo un enlace a youtube, otro clásico.

Battle Bratt - Winds Of Change

WINDS  OF  CHANGE 

Los estadounidenses Battle Bratt son otro de los grupos, (que hubo muchos), que llegaron tarde cronologicamente hablando al sonido que pretendían realizar, es decir, el planteamiento heavy metal de corte clásico para finales de la década de los ochenta ya no se veía con tan buenos ojos por la cantidad de corrientes más nuevas que iban surgiendo a uno y otro lado de dicho sonido, y si bien Battle Bratt le dio a su debut "Battle Bratt" de 1988 un cierto baño de hard rock, en una suerte de hard 'n heavy, se quedó en una obra poco reconocida y poco seguida lo que les dejaría en un "stand by" hasta 2006 en que reactivan su carrera aunque cambiando de registro compositivo. CUTTHROAT  ISLAND 

Los suecos Blazon Stone están de vuelta en este 2025 para mostrarnos su capacidad emulativa del sonido corsario deudor sin duda del de los maestros Running Wild, en esta ocasión dando muestra de otra de sus virtudes, la de componer material de primerísimo nivel (sobre todo si eres amante del sonido de la vieja escuela), y además en gran cantidad, desde 2013 siete LP's de estudio y un octavo que prometen para inicios de 2026 del que han descartado algunos temas que ahora, a finales de este 2025 se permiten incluir en un EP con cuatro temas "Treasure Hunt", no todo el mundo está en disposición para descartar temas de este calibre lo que muestra a la perfección de la calidad de estos músicos. Helloween - Burning Sun

BURNING  SUN 

El décimo cuarto LP de estudio de los alemanes Helloween "Straigh out of hell", fue publicado en 2013, y en realidad tuvo una acogida algo fría acostumbrada la crítica a su extensa discografía que vio en esta obra un disco poco innovador y no demasiado completo desde un punto de vista de la obra en su conjunto. Considerado un disco con demasiados temas de relleno no por ello carece de gancho en momentos y así posee algún que otro single de esos que luego aparecen en los directos y en los recopilatorios como es el caso de "Burning sun", del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

Treat - Mad Honey

MAD  HONEY 

No es fácil reinventarse, en general, más imagino para una banda veterana, pero además hacerlo con un nivel de ilusión y éxito grande, como parece el caso de los suecos Treat tiene más mérito todavía. La verdad es que ya en su anterior trabajo de estudio dejaron clara su nueva dirección, que no es sino un lavado de cara, una modernización, una puesta al día de lo que en realidad han hecho toda su carrera, pero con el espejo sonoro de muchas bandas hard modernas de éxito, muchas de su propio país, ellos han decidido coger ese tren y en este 2025 lo dejan claro con su último trabajo "the wild card" y por ejemplo este "Mad Honey" del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube.

DEFENDER  OF  STEEL 

Definitivamente los griegos Steel Arctus se consolidan en este 2025 con su tercer LP de estudio "Dreamruler", un trabajo bien acogido por la crítica por su solidez y la perpetuación del sonido de la banda, de su identidad sin renunciar al crecimiento personal como banda. Los finlandeses Silver Bullet son otra banda de esas interesantes que de momento se está quedando un poco en un segundo plano pero que indudablemente ha escogido una vía de crecimiento que en cualquier momento les puede llevar a explotar a un nivel superior de reconocimiento. En activo desde 2008 hasta 2016 no graban su debut y desde esa fecha un total de tres son las obras de estudio que adornan su discografía. Su estilo power les coloca en la órbita sonora de los grandes de género europeo, comparándoseles con Orden Ogan, (para mi no particularmente), pero de lo que no hay duda en absoluto es del potencial y de la calidad ya demostrada. En 2023 editaron su, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, último LP de estudio, "Shadowfall" del que ya he dejado en el blog algún tema y del que hoy dejo esta otra canción, "Shadow of a curse" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Mentalist - A New World

 

A  NEW  WORLD 

Los proyectos en los que se involucran grandes músicos tienen muchas posibilidades de dar que hablar aunque igualmente deben superar ese periodo de prueba para pasar de ser un proyecto puntual o alternativo a poder considerarlo como una banda con todas las garantías. En el caso de la banda internacional Mentalist, el nombre propio debe ser el del batería Thomen Stauch de sobra conocido para los amantes de Blind Guardian, y tras siete años desde su formación claramente han ingresado en ese grupo de bandas como tal, algo refrendado aún más en su crecimiento continuado a lo largo de sus cuatro LP's de estudio que han culminado con "earthbreaker" de este 2025, que no es sino un resumen y escaparate de las muchas cualidades de esta banda. El disco es irreprochable, una obra que brilla a alto nivel general y del que hoy dejo en el blog otro de sus temas, en este caso el que cierra la obra, "A new world", instrumentalmente muy maideniano me atrevería a decir, un temazo del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Hammer King - The Last Kingdom

THE  LAST  KINGDOM 

 A base de oficio, persisitiendo en su idea, aumentando su oferta a base de obras no demasiado diferentes entre sí, ni diferentes de lo que se supone que debe ser el euro power, los germanos Hammer King editaban en este 2025 que ya está en las últimas su séptimo LP de estudio en una década de existencia, así, quizá supliendo la ausencia de originalidad en su propuesta con el citado tesón y la regularidad, ofrecen una experiencia sonora bien ejecutada y más que correcta en terminos power. Hoy dejo otro de los temas de este su sçeptimo LP "Make metal royal again" publicada el 15 de agosto, concretamente la canción que cierra la obra, "The last kingdom", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Battleaxe - Thor Thunder Angel

THOR  THUNDER  ANGEL 

Que enorme capacidad de crear bandas tuvo la escena británica en su hiper conocida NWOBHM que surge con la década de los ochenta, muchos de esos grupos quedaron solo en un destello de lo que pudieron haber llegado a ser sin la masificación de grupos haciendo el mismo sonido en el mismo sitio, aún así, en muchos de esos casos una revisión del material publicado por todos aquellos grupos nos deja un ejercicio de descubrimiento casi inabarcable, pero completamente entrañable y productivo. Hoy de nuevo traigo al blog a la banda británica "Battleaxe" con su debut en este caso en formato LP "Burn This Town" de 1983, heavy metal de manual de este grupo formado en 1979, que tuvo un primer periodo de actividad entre 1979 y 1987, en que parieron sus dos primeros albumes, y un segundo periodo de actividad desde 2010 en adelante que daría como fruto en 2013 su tercer LP. Tema clasicote para hoy, de una banda eterna y clásica igualmente, fundamental y a la que si ya no tenía suficiente misticismo para el metalhead prototípico, la aún reciente e impactante  muerte de Ozzy a terminado de elevarles al siguiente nivel. 1970, la segunda obra de estudio de la banda, su disco más vendido, uno de los más ensalzados, temas eternos y clásicos como este "War Pigs" del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.
