THE  WOLF  YOU  FEED

La fantástica guitarrista estadounidense Nita Strauss es una de esas artístas que ha ido creciendo como tal a lo largo de los pasados años militando en los diferentes proyectos y bandas con nombres de toda la vida e importantes, antes de empezar a dar pasos en solitario bajo su propio nombre desde 2017 en adelante. Estamos ante una propuesta de heavy metal con aire progresivo y el inevitable toque Sherd que a los guitarristas virtuosos es casi imposible que no les termine pudiendo. Desde ese 2017 dos LP's de estudio y varios singles han ido dando forma a una carrera que aún está apenas comenzando, sobre todo a este nivel que no hace sino aumentar y ganar en repercusión, porque además de la evidente capacidad compositiva e interpretativa que queda patente enseguida, esta artista tiene el buen acierto de "arrimarse" a colaboraciones que le hacen sumar aún más, como en el caso de la canción que dejo hoy en el blog de su segundo LP, "The call of the void", de 2023, el tema "the wolf you feed" donde une fuerzas con la espectacular Alissa White Gluz en un derroche de energía y calidad, un tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial, magnífico para los oidos y también para la vista, por que no decirlo.

Vamos con otro de los temas del sexto y a fecha de esta reseña último LP de estudio de los argentinos Skiltron, un grupo al que le está realmente costando levantar cabeza desde su casi desmembramiento total en 2011 pero que con tesón y trabajo ya ha grabado su tercer album desde que se dio esa circunstancia. Canciones para una vida - Greyhawk - The Golden Candle

THE  GOLDEN  CANDLE 

Los estadounidenses Greyhawk confirman su trayectoria ascendente en este 2024 a través de su segundo LP de estudio "Thunderheart" una obra que como su predecesora "Keepers of the flame" de 2020 centra sus esfuerzos compositivos en un heavy power metal de corte épico y con influencias de ambos lados del charco, una banda que ha apostado por la calidad, también por la melodía y en este tema del nuevo album "The golden Candle" queda patente además de su capacidad para dominar el terreno del medio tiempo, un tema que pone el punto final al disco y del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Thin Lizzy - Jailbreak

JAILBREAK 

Nuevo ejemplo de banda influyente e importante en los primerísimos pasos del heavy metal antes incluso de definirse como tal, son los irlandeses Thin Lizzy, banda que desarrollo su carrera musical desde 1969 y que a pesar de mantener su estatus como banda en activo la realidad es que desde que editasen su duodécimo LP de estudio y último en 1983 "Thunder and lightning" tan solo han editado material recopilatorio en una cantidad casi infinita más discos en vivo, lo que viene a ser una banda con actividad finalizada, evidentemente también tras el fallecimiento de su alma mater Phil Lynott en 1986 por su abuso con las drogas. La magnitud de la banda se mide también por esa misma brevedad de su carrera en proporción al reconocimiento recibido históricamente y además la magnitud de los nombres que pasaron por sus filas. En 1976 editaban su sexto album de estudio "Jailbreak", uno de sus momentos álgidos por el recibimiento de la obra y el gran nivel general de la misma, obra de la que dejo hoy en el blog el tema que la da nombre, uno de esos temas eternos dentro del heavy metal y del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - TYR - Dragons Never Die

DRAGONS  NEVER  DIE

Definitivamente queda claro y patente que los feroeses TYR están de vuelta por todo lo alto, tras ese silencio de un lustro desde su anterior obra que no terminó de brillar a la altura que muchos esperabamos debemos estar contentos por la senda retomada por la banda para este 2024 que esperemos que recorran con mayor continuidad en adelante y sin salirse al menos de la dirección retomada. "Battle ballads" resulta ser una obra que retoma caminos más directos, mas asequible, más coreable y seguramente más vendible en su conjunto, con canciones de esas que se instalan en la cabeza y allí se quedan desde la primera escucha, como ocurre por ejemplo con este "Dragons never die" de la que dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Hammerfall - Hail To The King

HAIL  TO  THE  KING

Primeras pinceladas del que será el decimo tercer LP de estudio de los suecos Hammerfall, que llevará por título "Avenge the fallen" y que verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo 9 de agosto del presente 2024. El primero de los adelantos lleva por título "Hail to the king", con la esperada y esperable fórmula que la banda ha repetido a lo largo de su carrera, lo que una vez más alentará a sus seguidores y detractores en su argumentación. Con esta obra la banda regresa con Nuclear Blast con quienes han estado la mayor parte de su carrera y a nivel compositivo el grupo defiende que su manera general de componer obras está enfocada a cuando las presenten en vivo tratando de hacer discos consistentes en general, en su conjunto. Canciones para una vida - Uriah Heep - Easy Livin'

EASY  LIVIN'

Volviendo al repaso del primigenio y pre heavy metal otro importante nombre es Uriah Heep aludiendo al concepto hard rockero progresivo y épico fantástico en lo lírico que sin duda influyó, y contribuyó al posterior heavy metal que tanto amamos. Hablamos de una carrera larga la de estos británicos, iniciada en 1969 y que ha llegado hasta nuestros días, 25 LP's de estudio hablan de la magnitud de la banda que siempre desarrolló su sonido en los bordes de nuestro género. Los discos de los 70 fueron sin duda los que más posiblemente pudiesen tener contribución hacia el heavy metal, y uno de los que más reconocimiento recibió fue "Demons and wizards" de 1972, con temas como "The Wizard" versionado por varios grupos entre ellos Blind Guardian o el tema "Easy Livin'" del que hoy dejo en el blog un enlace a youtube, otro clásico histórico que ayuda en lo suyo a entender el concepto global de nuestro sonido.

Canciones para una vida - Cloven Hoof - Last Man Standing

LAST  MAN  STANDING

De las muchas bandas clásicas que han querido darse una segunda oportunidad, las hay que han hecho ese esfuerzo con mucha determinación y otras con no tanto, está claro que el convencimiento de los británicos Cloven Hoof era grande y eso se ha reflejado en una segunda parte de su carrera desde 2001 en adelante en la que han editado ya siete LP's de estudio contando "Heathen Cross" que verá la luz el último día de mayo. A esto hay que sumar su discografía ochentera, otros tres LP's de estudio más lo que pone al grupo con una nada desdeñable discografía de 10 LP's más dos EP's en una clave de heavy metal de corte clásico un poco powerizado en este tramo final de su carrera. Canciones para una vida - Rainbow - The Shed

THE  SHED

Toca repaso histórico, una vez más, y de hecho una vez más grandes nombres acuden a la cabeza, hoy Rainbow, con los Blackmore, Dio, Joe Lynn Turner, Rondinelli, y un largo etc de estrellas y músicos brillantes que han dado forma a la banda a lo largo de las décadas. Hoy, mirando a la parte inicial de su carrera, es decir a los 70 quiero recuperar una de las canciones de su tercer LP de estudio, "Long live rock 'n roll", de 1978, con Blackmore, Dio, Powel, Daisly y Stone, repoker de ases que nos dejaron una magnífica obra ese año, como atestigua por ejemplo la canción "The Shed" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

FEVER  OF  THE  GODS

El próximo 28 de junio verá la luz el ya noveno LP de estudio de los polacos Crystal Viper, con su concepto heavy power true metalero que en estos días no ha dejado el primero de los adelantos del citado disco. A juzgar por el mismo ningún cambio a la vista nos debería aguardar con la nueva obra que en el clip oficial del tema "fever of the gods" queda patente la actitud "ultra heavy" de la cantante y lider de la banda Marta Gabriel, un tema este del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Kingdom Come - Twilight Cruiser

TWILIGHT  CRUISER

Vamos hoy con una banda clásica, un grupo con un sonido siempre asociado al hard rock pero que en no pocas ocasiones ha sabido caminar por la delgada línea que separa el heavy metal del hard rock, ese concepto tan ochentero del hard ' n heavy. Formados en 1987, en Alemania la banda ha desarrollado una carrera fructifera y larga con grandes discos y temas que han alcanzado en gran medida el éxito internacional, sobre todo en la parte inicial de su carrera, siempre viene a la cabeza su LP "In your face" de 1989. Siempre les ha acompañado una cierta polémica por la comparación que se les hizo desde el inicio con la banda Led Zeppelin, algo que en algún momento ellos negaron y se transformó en una especie de bola de nieve que les acompañó toda su carrera. Han editado un total de trece LP's de estudio entre 1987 y 2013 y hoy quiero dejar una de esas canciones especiales de la banda, el tema que dio nombre a su quinta obra "Twilight Cruiser" de 1995 y del que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

WARRIOR'S  CRY

De nuevo la escena griega deja claro y patente su buen estado de forma con montones de bandas, algunas ya consolidadas y otras emergentes y prometedoras como el caso de estos Battle Symphony que hoy nos ocupan. Hablamos de un power metal con una cierta dosis sinfónica, pero en el buen sentido, complementando el sonido de su música, buenas melodías, buenas composiciones y poderosa voz, una mezcla que les puede dar motivos para soñar. Formados en los comienzos de esta década han editado ya un LP en 2022, "War on earth". En 2023 editaron un single nuevo que es el que hoy quiero dejar en el blog, la magnífica "Warrior's Cry" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube, otro grupo al que seguir la pista.

Canciones para una vida - Montrose - Rock The Nation

 

 ROCK  THE  NATION

El camino más lógico de la evolución del sonido heavy metal antes de su existencia como tal era endurecer el rock ya endurecido, así cambiando un poco la estructura del hard rock original se fue dando el caldo de cultivo para el nacimiento del heavy metal como sonido propiamente dicho, y en ese punto entramos en el conflicto de siempre, de quien fue el primero, que escuela, etc, el caso es que siempre creo que es mejor ver este particular desde un punto de vista general, progresivo, creo que es un error verlo acotado. Una banda que puso también su granito de arena fueron los estadounidenses Montrose, con un hard rock con un plus para la época, un poco en la onda de los británicos Led Zeppelin pero siendo la versión americana, y que contaba con, además del fenomenal guitarrista Ronnie Montrose, con el genial vocalista Sammy Hagar. Montrose edita un total de cinco LP's de estudio entre 1973 y 1987, y de su primer disco de 1973 de título "Montrose" quiero dejar una de sus canciones, concretamente "Rock The Nation" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube, Montrose, prehistoria metálica que siempre está bien conocer.

Canciones para una vida - Warlord - Conquerors

 

CONQUERORS

Cuarta intentona de esta veterana banda estadounidense para seguir adelante ya que su primer periodo de actividad se da entre 1980 y 1990, con un LP y un EP además de dos recopilatoriosun segundo periodo entre 2001 y 2002 con otro LP, la tercera época entre 2011 y con dos LP's y nada menos que tres recopilatorios, y la cuarta intentona que empieza este año, en que publicarán su quinto LP de estudio quedando solo en la banda como miembros fundadores el batería Mark Zonder. Es pues una banda absolutamente inconstante, llena de destellos brillantes desde el punto de vista compositivo, aunque no deja de resultar curioso que tengan el mismo número de recopilatorios que de LP's de estudio, siendo su bagaje discográfico un poco escaso atendiendo a su largo periodo de actividad, a pesar de los parones. Como digo este 2024 editarán su quinto LP de estudio, "Free spirit soar" concretamente el 10 de mayo y el tema "Conquerors" es su primer adelanto del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - The Rods - Power Lover

 

 POWER  LOVER

Vamos con otra banda clásica, los británicos The Rods, quienes comenzasen su carrera con el propio movimiento de la NWOBHM, y que como tantas otras bandas han hecho, resucitase como grupo en el nuevo siglo tras una carrera que se habría antojado demasiado breve si se hubiese ceñido a solo lo hecho en la década de los ochenta y debido a su calidad innegable. Como digo comienzan su andadura en 1979 y su primer periodo de actividad dura hasta 1987, una primera época en la que editan seis LP's de estudio más un EP y un disco en vivo, así como un recopilatorio que parecía poner fin a una carrera como digo demasiado breve. Es en 2010 cuando se reactivan y desde entonces otros cuatro LP's han dado mayor empaque a una discografía que ya es más que respetable. Hoy quiero mirar a sus comienzos, al citado EP que editaron a comienzos de los 80, (1981), titulado "Full Throttle", y del que dejo en el blog el tema "Power Lover" que incluirían en su segundo LP de ese mismo año titulado "The Rods", una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Outworld - Sindri The Blacksmith

SINDRI  THE  BLACKSMITH

La uruguaya tampoco es que sea la escena metálica con más tradición, sin embargo, atendiendo a la total y absoluta globalización de nuestro sonido a lo largo y ancho del planeta y a la mayor facilidad para intentar editar material incluso por medios propios, hoy es posible encontrar bandas que suenen bien en casi cualquier esquina del planeta. Outworld son un grupo formado en esta década, que han ido editando un montón de material sobre todo en el pasado 2023, de momento cinco LP's en 2023 y uno en este 2024, está claro que en este particular han decidido innovar, en lo compositivo estamos ante un power metal deudor del sonido europeo melódico, con el componente épico, temática incluida. La verdad es que resulta facil digerir este tipo de sonido y de momento están poniendo toda la carne en el asador, veremos hasta donde llegan, hoy dejo en el blog una de las canciones de su cuarto trabajo, "Warrior of the north" concretamente "Sindri the blacksmith", del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

BATTLEFIELDS

Heavy metal de sabor clásico aunque editado digamos con un poco de retraso para lo que se hacía en ese momento ya, hablamos de los alemanes "Salvage" y de los inicios de los 90 cuando editan su único LP, aunque ellos llevaban en activo desde 1985, y se nota lo que mamaron en esos años, la verdad es que el estilo es banstante tendente a un hard 'n heavy achentero pero americano. De cualquier manera dejaron como fruto de su carrera corta un único LP, de título igual al nombre de la banda, como digo de 1991 y del que dejo hoy en el blog una de sus canciones, "Battlefield" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Victorius - Total T. Rex Terror

 

TOTAL  T  REX  TERROR

Los germanos Victorius han sabido buscar su hilo conductor lírico de una manera muy personal, y aunque su sonido power europeo no sea algo tan original como sus letras, estas les hacen reconocibles con su lucha entre dinosaurios y criaturas prehumanas y los ninjas espaciales. Así tomado parece que no tenga demasiado sentido, sin embargo el fino sonido power de la banda justifica de sobra que utilicen el argumento que quieran para sus canciones. Justa antes de comenzar su gira europea con Warkings han editado un single nuevo este recién pasado 3 de abril, "Total T, Rex Terror", tema del que dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

Canciones para una vida - Medusa - Conquest Of The Skies

CONQUEST  OF  THE  SKIES

Casi nada lo de adentrarse en el absolutamente insondable universo de la NWOBHM ochentero, en lo que sin duda fue una auténtica explosión de bandas de heavy metal, la mayoría de ellas desconocidas para la inmensa mayoría de los metalheads. Hoy quiero rescatar a otra de aquellas bandas británicas, Medusa, que como ocurría tan a menudo en ese marco mencionado, se movieron por los terrenos underground del movimiento, editando tan solo un par de demos y un recopilatorio de las mismas muchos años después. Como banda están en activo entre el 78 y el 82, y destaca la voz de un joven Steve Grimmett que milita aquí antes de marcharse en 1983 primero a Chateaux y luego a Grim Reaper, y de esos momentos compositivos de Medusa quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones, "Conquest of the skies", sonido heavy metal de la época, por tratarse de material demo hay que ir más allá de la producción, y quedandonos en lo compuesto se puede adivinar el potencial para haber podido alcanzar mayores cotas de éxito también con mayor continuidad. Canciones para una vida - Axel Rudi Pell - Guardian Angel

GUARDIAN  ANGEL

Hecha una reseña de este magnifico guitarrista alemán, hechas todas, esto, que podría tomarse como algo malo para muchos, puede verse también desde el otro extremo, desde la perspectiva de la calidad, la constancia, y ese enorme gusto compositivo que lleva mostrando ya desde 1989 a través de sus 22 Lp's de estudio si contamos este "Risen Symbol" que verá la luz de forma oficial el 14 de junio. Como digo, poco más que añadir, otra de esas bandas que si no existiera habría que inventarla, con su nicho propio en la escena internacional, reconocida y reconocible. Canciones para una vida - Rotting Christ - Like Father Like Son

LIKE  FATHER  LIKE  SON

Vamos ahora con una banda de la escena griega, Rotting Christ, pero estos son de los que abrieron camino, pioneros que comenzasen su carrera en la década de los 80, a finales bajo el nombre Rotting Christ pero que provenían desde la parte inicial de esa misma década tocando bajo el nombre de Black Church. Siempre centraron su sonido en el black metal, y sus tintes anticristianos les otorgó siempre el cartel de metal extremo, sobre todo en los años iniciales de su carrera, poco a poco este tipo de actitudes se suele calmar con los años, algo quizá inherente al propio ser humano y el periodo de maduración personal que termina por poner el foco en cosas más tangibles. El caso es que la banda lleva a sus espaldas una larga trayectoria con 14 albumes en formato LP, incluyendo el último "Pro Xristou" que verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo 24 de mayo, a los que sumar 5 EP's, toda una discografía que explorar. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog un adelanto de su inminente nuevo trabajo, concretamente la épica "Like father like son" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
