BEYOND

De nuevo los suecos "Torch" dan señales de continuidad de una carrera larga, que hunde sus raices en los inicios de la década de los ochenta cuando comenzaron su andadura como banda, y que se vio durante mucho tiempo, como a otras muchas bandas les sucedió, en un paréntesis desde 1986, hasta que retoman su actividad en 2003. Ya en 2009 parece que arrancan desde el punto de vista compositivo esta segunda etapa que tendría que esperar de nuevo más de una década para ver publicado un nuevo LP en 2020. Este 2022 es testigo de un paso más en su carrera azarosa cuanto menos, a traves de un LP en vivo. Es una gran escusa para repasar algo más de su material pasado, en este caso centrándome en una de las canciones de su debut en forma de EP, "Fire Raiser!!" de 1982, donde mostraban el potencial de heavy metal de la old school, en ese instante muy acorde a lo que se hacía, y de dicho debut dejo hoy el tema "Beyond" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Brymir - Herald Of Aegir

 

HERALD  OF  AEGIR

Brymir es para mí sin duda una de las mejores bandas en su sonido, una de las más finas desarrollando ese death melódico, y han ido llegando de forma progresiva a este punto actual de incontestable calidad. Desde su formación en 2006 han ido conformando esa personalidad propia que en este 2022 ve como fruto su cuarto LP de estudio "Voices in the sky" que verá la luz de forma oficial en este inminente mes de agosto, y de la que en estos días deajn su segundo adelanto, "Herald of Aegir" que no hace sino aumentar las ganas de escuchar el nuevo LP en su conjunto, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Rebellion - Thankless Child

 

THANKLESS  CHILD

Durante mucho tiempo, desde su formación tras la escisión de parte de la banda Grave Digger a comienzos de los 2000, hasta el final de la trilogía vikinga, los alemanes han formado parte de esas bandas a las que incondicionalmente les otorgaba mi confianza casi a ciegas, lo que por aquel entonces hacían me resultaba perfecto obra tras obra. Desde ese momento en adelante, la verdad es que me ha costado mucho más, siempre con esa sensación de que potencialmente me deberían llenar sus obras, pero siempre echando algo de menos que no termino de saber que es, y lo peor para mí es que esa sensación parece agudizarse a medida que avanza su carrera, quizá seré yo, no se. El caso es que llevaba mucho tiempo queriendo traer al blog una de las canciones de su octavo LP de estudio que no es sino una segunda visita al universo de Shakespeare que ya centro el hilo argumental lírico de su magnifico debut de 2002. Este octavo album, "A tragedy in steel part II Shakespeare's King Lear", de 2018, como digo se me hace un tanto extraño, que no malo, la banda ha demostrado mucho ya su calidad y seriedad, pero a mi, repito, me cuesta mucho su último sonido editado, demasiado espeso quizá, y hoy quiero dejar en el blog de este disco citado una de las canciones que más me han logrado llegar de la obra, "Thankless child" un tanto extraña también, con una dinámica pesada, lenta pero al tiempo es de las que permanecen ahí tras su escucha, una canción de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Grailknights - Crimson Shades Of Glory

 

CRIMSON  SHADES  OF  GLORY

De las ya muchas bandas que han decidido tomar un camino escénico y compositivo más digamos desenfadado, sin duda alguna los alemanes "Grailknights" son uno de mis favoritos como todo lector asiduo de este blog ya habrá deducido. La calidad de la banda se me antoja indiscutible, y la trayectoria del grupo, con más de dos décadas de actividad y seis LP's a los que acompañan otros dos EP's resulta un aval más que suficiente como para que más parte del gran publico les premiase con un reconocimiento bien merecido. La riqueza compositiva, que va desde el death melódico sobre todo de sus iniicos hasta el toque más power del la parte más nueva de su discografía es igualmente innegable, así que creo que sus virtudes deberían dar cobijo a un nutrido grupo de metalheads. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog otra de sus canciones, en este caso una perteneciente a su segundo EP publicado "Dead or alive" de 2016, concretamente "Crimson shades of glory" en la que se rodean con la banda "Van Canto", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Holy Blood - By Fire And Sword

Vamos hoy con un poquito de death melódico de corte folk y de la escuela nordica, en este caso de origen ucraniano, por lo que la parte folk tiene un claro sonido ruso digamos, un tanto al estilo Arkona. La banda se llama "Holy Blood" y llevan en activo ya más de dos décadas, desde 1999, aunque su repercusión inicial dificilmente podría haber alcanzado cotas internacionales ya que sus primeros 5 albumes están cantados en su lengua materna, algo dificil de vender al gran público. Es desde 2017 desde el año en que deciden intentar la conquista del mercado internacional cambiando la lengua de su música al ingles, editando ese mismo año su primer material, "Glory to the heroes" en este caso en formato EP, al que seguiría en 2019 un nuevo LP, "Voice of blood". En general lo dicho, death melódico, con tintes a lo Arkona, y un toque folk muy ruso, con coros contundentes buscando una épica un tanto tosca pero efectiva. De su primer material en inglés, el citado EP "Glory to the heroes" de 2017, quiero hoy dejar en el blog una de sus canciones, "By fire and sword", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Nordic Union - This Means War

 

THIS  MEANS  WAR

El segundo single de la tercera obra de Nordic Union ya está aquí, "This Means War", un ejemplo casi perfecto de lo que cabe esperar de esta dupla nórdica de músicos, el danés Ronnie Atkins a la voz, (Pretty Maids), y el sueco Erik Martensson, (de Eclipse), multiinstrumentista incluyendo la voz, en un hard heavy metal melódico, que como digo no se aleja en absoluto de los que ambos músicos están acostumbrados a hacer por separado y de lo que ya han hecho juntos con anterioridad. En agosto está prevista la salida de la obra y si lo tuyo es este tipo de sonido estás de enhorabuena por lo que se puede escuchar de momento de la obra. Canciones para una vida - Spellblast - Gobling's Song

 

GOBLING'S  SONG

La escuela italiana es también una de esas canteras en las que muchas bandas permanecen siempre en un segundo plano, como en una segunda división, llegando a tener una cirta repercusión pero al tiempo dandose por hecho que no saltarán nunca a la primera línea de grupos de la escena internacional, sin embargo, no en pocas ocasiones ese tipo de bandas ofrecen una calidad mucho más que aceptable y su propuesta resulta ser muy interesante, concretamente con los italianos y hablando de la primera década de los 2000, ese power, con tintes épico folk un tanto herederos de los inevitables Rhapsody. En semejante marco encontramos a "Spellblast", quienes en 1999 comnzaron su andadura que continúa hasta la actualidad, con una producción discográfica de cuatro LP's en estos años, lo cual se antoja un tanto escaso, y creo que últimamente, en su último LP han seguido buscando un hueco en la escena internacional, aunque su giro, sobre todo conceptual no se si ha sido un acierto, pero esa será otra historia. El caso es que su debut, "Horns of silence"  en 2007,descubrió a una ilusionada banda, en ese concepto épico fantástico folkie que considero más natural en ellos, con temas tan interesantes como este "Goblins song" de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Sons Of Crom - Master Of Shadows

 

MASTER  OF  SHADOWS

La banda internacional nórdica (sueco finlandesa) "Sons Of Crom" compuesta tan solo por dos miembros multiinstrumentistas, que basan su sonido en un atmósferico heavy doom, sin caer en el death en lo vocal pero con un innegable y oscuro influjo de Bathory, sobre todo en sus inicios, que hablando de una discografía de tan solo dos LP's es como decir de gran parte de su carrera que comenzó allá por 2014 y ha visto un primer LP en ese mismo año seguido por un segundo en 2017. Volviendo la vabeza de nuevo a su debut quiero hoy dejar en el blog otra de las composiciones que lo integran, "Master of shadows", uno de esos guiños a Bathory a los que me refería, con todos los ingredientes, atmósféricos, esa sensación de pesada melancolía, con tintes épicos y de medio tiempo, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Gillan - What's The Matter

 

WHAT'S  THE  MATTER

Cuando echamos la vista bien atrás en esto del heavy metal, surgen siempre nombres importantes, figuras, ingredientes que se han victo mezclados en las salsas más importantes y que se antojan fundamentales para el desarrollo del sonido en las sucesivas décadas, así músicos, bandas, influjos estilísticos, hacen una amalgama que resulta ser el caldo de cultivo de otras cosas en una retroalimentación continua. Otro nombre importante es el del músico británico Ian Gillan, nombre unido a otros del calibre de Black Sabbath o Deep purple por ejemplo, hablamos pues de historia metálica de altura, de los mimbres mismos del género, y aunque descontextualizado el sonido pueda parecer incluso arcaico, enmarcado en su momento y circunstancias es casi una tarea obligada conocer a este tipo de figuras para entender el conjunto, incluido el impecablemente diseñado sonido actual. El bueno de Gillan, desde finales de los 70, hasta mitad de los 80, trata de sacar adelante su banda "Gillan", a medio camino sonoro entre un hard rock del momento y el aún incipiente sonido de la NWOBHM. Hay muchas cosas en sus composiciones, tambien ese heavy metal original, casi en bruto, tan británico, tan auténtico. Al final, en 1983, tras publicar su sexto LP de estudio "Magic" en 1982, y del que hoy dejaré uno de sus temas en el blog, disolvería la banda alegando cuestiones económicas, (vamos que no le salían las cuentas), así como problemas físicos, (en sus cuerdas vocales, mal asunto para un cantante...). En cuanto a la obra que cierra su carrera, muy en la línea de lo propuesto en su discografía en general, hard 'n heavy en onda NWOBHM, con Janick Gers a la guitarra, otro nombre clásico, y de dicha obra dejo hoy el ejemplo en el blog, "What's the matter", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - ADX - Sacrifice In The Ice

 

SACRIFICE  IN  THE  ICE

Vamos allá con una de esas escenas a priori, y teniendo en cuenta la época, digamos que menos propicia que otras para rebuscar bandas de interés, pero que una vez más demuestra que la globalización del sonido metálico no es algo tan moderno como muchos podrían pensar, ya en la década de los ochenta, década a la que una vez más me encomiendo, podíamos descubrir heavy metal de calidad en casi cualquier esquina, otra cosa erá la repercusión de la mano del éxito, la capacidad económica a través del nulo apoyo y otra serie de cuestiones. Hoy la escena a la que me refiero era la francesa, la banda ADX, y el estilo el heavy acelerado, en eterno camino hacie un thrash realmente nunca alcanzado como tal, en una banda con una enorme trayectoria desde 1982 hasta nuestros días en tres periodos, el último de ellos desde 2006 en adelante. Hablamos también de una banda a la que por fuerza el tema de cantar en su propio idioma en la mayoría de sus obras ha tenido que pasarles factura, como también le ha sucedido por ejemplo a muchas bandas de nuestra casa. El caso es que potencial les sobraba, la propuesta sin pretensiones de innovar, de abrir caminos nuevos, pero construido a través de ideas claras a las que han sido fieles desde sus inicios. Hoy dejo en el blog su intento más internacional, su obra cantada en inglés, "Weird Visions" de 1990, el que hacía ya su cuarto LP de estudio, y del que dejo hoy en el blog uno de sus temas, concretamente "Sacrifice in the ice", del que dejo un enlace a oyutube.

Canciones para una vida - Hammer King - Invisible King

 

INVISIBLE  KING

Los efectivos alemanes "Hammer King" siguen desgranando temas de adelanto del que será su próximo LP de estudio, el quinto ya de su carrera, "Kingdemonium" que saldrá a la venta de forma oficial a mediados del próximo mes de agosto de este 2022. Todo parece indicar la continuidad estilística de la banda que sin destacar en absoluto como virtuosos de nada, si que hacen muy bien lo que hacen y alcanzan con creces sus objetivos, volviendo a mi cabeza una vez tras otra la idea con la que abro esta reseña, "efectividad", que les define a mi entender prefectamente. Canciones para una vida - D'Artagnan - Westwind

 

WESTWIND

El quinto LP de estudio de la banda germana "D'artagnan" ya va mostrando dos adelantos en estas últimas semanas, mostrando de nuevo ese sonido tan característico de la banda así como de la escena alemana del folk medieval con tintes metálicos, movimiento nutrido con muchas bandas de calidad entre las que se encuentran estos. Un poquito en la línea de Feuerschanw aunque menos metálicos, sobre todo si observamos las últimas obras de aquellos y su giro hacia el heavy, pero igualmente llenos de melodía, calidad y fuerza. El segundo de los adelantos se titula "Westwind" y de él dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube.

THE  MOONFLOWER  SOCIETY

Nuevo adelanto del noveno LP de estudio del proyecto germano de Tobias Sammet Avantasia, que verá la luz este 2022 a finales de verano bajo el largo título de"A paranormal evening with the moonflower society", según las palabras de su creador su obra más personal que ha compuesto a lo largo de esta extraña época de aislamiento que ha supuesto el ya aburridísimo coronavirus. Sin duda alguna todas las características compositivas de la banda se reunen de nuevo en la obra y el proyecto está más vivo que nunca en detrimento ya de forma casi irremediable de su banda madre "Edguy" que en no pocas ocasiones al menos yo echo de menos. El caso es que en este nuevo adelanto de título "The moonflower society" se rodea vocalmente con la figura de Bob Catley, uno de esos cantantes que para mi gusto debería tener un mayor reconocimiento general, que siempre cumple con creces en aquello en lo que se involucra. Canciones para una vida - Amon Amarth - The Great Heathen Army

 

THE  GREAT  HEATHEN  ARMY

El segundo adelanto del nuevo disco de los suecos "Amon Amarth" parece confirmar esa sensación de vuelta de la banda hacia un sonido más clasico, más centrado en el death melódico respecto a la propuesta un poco más power de los últimos albumes que han despertado la crítica de los seguidores de la banda de siempre, y es que poco tiene que ver la propuesta de la banda respecto a los tiempos de "Once sent from the golden hall" en los comienzos de la banda allá por el 98. De todas maneras se trata de un leve retorno, es evidente que hoy en día Amon Amarth es un grupo mucho más para todos los publicos digamos, han aumentado enormemente su legión de seguidores, y seguramente una vuelta al 100% a su sonido original parecería una sentencia a la perdida de buena parte de los seguidores más nuevos del grupo, y eso repercute en las ventas, claro está, al final esto es también un negocio. El segundo adelanto de lo nuevo de los finlandeses Stratovarius se titula "World on fire" y nos muestra una cara sonora mucho más al estilo clásico de los singles de la banda décadas atrás, si bien quizá no sea un tema tan rápido a la hora de meterse en tu cabeza, con un poco de menos gancho, en seguida el estribillo rondará tu cerebro y se traducirá en el inevitable tararéo. se tratará del décimo séptimo LP de estudio de la banda y su salida oficial no se hará efectiva hasta finales de septiembre. HAUNTED  SEA

Seventh Storm es una nueva banda protuguesa nacida por la inquietud compositiva del músico Mike Gaspar, batería durante tres décadas en Moonspell, y que tras su salida de la banda decide dar salida a su capacidad compositiva en el proyecto "Seventh Storm" que en estos días está mostrando los primeros detalles de su debut "Maledictus" que verá la luz de forma oficial en este verano. Según el propio músico su sonido será una mezcla de heavy metal y toques tradicionales portugueses, reconociendo influencias desde Bathory a Motley Crue pasando por Cradle Of Filth. Canciones para una vida - Keldian - Thunderstorm Of The Century

 

THUNDERSTORM  OF  THE  CENTURY

El quinto LP de los noruegos Keldian es una de esas obras que ha dado un cierto giro al sonido de la banda, si bien es cierto que estos chicos se caracterizan por hacer caso solamente a su idea compositiva, y que además desde el inicio han tenido nula relación con las discográficas, evitando así cualquier tipo de presión a la hora de tomar uno u otro camino compositivo, el giro mencionado en este LP, "The bloodwater rebellion" es bastante notorio, siempre hay momentos innegablemente Keldian, pero el influjo casi de rock clásico, de un sonido ajeno al metal propiamente dicho, es perceptible, y seguramente dejará a más de uno de sus segudores más "Power" un tanto frios. Como digo, los temas por ejemplo "We are rebellion" o este "Thunderstorm of the century" que hoy dejo en el blog, presentan una mayor cercanía al sonido previo de la banda, aunque siempre hay que darle a la obra las escuchas necesarias para hacerse un juicio con garantías de justicia. Veremos hacia donde dirigen sus pasos futuros, por el momento dejo hoy un enlace a youtube de este "Thunderstorm of the century".

BATTERY

Nueva visita a una de las bandas obligadas, por los méritos, por la trayectoria, por el mito y la influencia, por lo que fueron, y lo que han vuelto a ser, pero sobre todo por lo que fueron, y de esa época inicial, con la que muchos nos enganchamos a esto del heavy metal, hay obras que no necesitan de presentación, aunque en algunos casos se les de demasiada trascendencia algo que desde la composición estricta o desde la calidad purista no debería haber llegado a tal punto, pero Metallica es mucho más, es uno de esos grupos que son un plus, que sus siglas trascienden a la propia música, una aparato bien engrasado de generar pasta, y buena música, por supuesto, pero sobre todo pasta, llenar estadios, vender discos, pues la inrecia de esas siglas hace que muchos ni se lo planteen, lleva el logo Metallica, hay que comprar. En 1986 editaban su tercer LP, tras el descomunal "Ride the lightning" de 1984 y el absolutamente demoledor "Kill 'em all" del año anterior, este disco daba a la banda ese estatus de mito por las ventas, el nombre crecía y la banda se catapultaba a la cima del thrash y del metal en general. Temas como el que abre la obra, "Battery" ayudaron a ello, por supuesto, y de dicha canción dejo hoy en el blog un enlace a youtube, clasicote, "Battery" de otro clásico Metallica.

Canciones para una vida - Victorius - Victorious Dinogods

 

VICTORIOUS  DINOGODS

 En estos tiempos que corren donde en todos los ambitos de la vida parece que todo está ya inventado, y la música no parece una excepción, el individuo y en este caso cada banda parece tratar de buscar su propio espacio, para así resultar lo más original posible imagino, y destacar en ese campo menos trillado, donde los ojos del gran público se puedan posar con mayor facilidad que el algo más genérico habiendo tal saturación de bandas a nivel planetario. Y en estas están también "Victorius" los power metaleros germanos que han ido modelando su propio sonido dotándolo poco a poco de personalidad propia. En este caso concreto creo que hay que diferenciar entre dos puntos, uno es el estrictamente compositivo, donde no destaca la banda por un sonido original, sino que se centran en un power de corte europeo, un poco de la escuela sueca pero también de la propia, la alemana, sonando un poco hibirdado entre por ejemplo elementos de Freedom Call con otros de bandas como Dragonforce por ejemplo. La originalidad se les puede atribuir en la temática lírica, pues han decidido centrarse en una suerte de rollete futurista pero al tiempo prehistórico, como una especie de mezcla entre Jurassic Park y Transformers, la verdad un poco pillado por los pelos, pero parece ser su inspiración, así que no seré yo el que diga nada negativo al respecto. Su tres o cuatro primeros discos se centraban en temas más tradicionales del power metal, batallas, historia, fantasía, paro sus dos últimas obras sobre todo han dado ese giro temático mencionado. El sexto LP de la banda,"Dinosaur Warfare Pt. 2 - The Great Ninja War" de este 2022 da continuidad al nuevo camino, y de él dejo hoy en el blog el tema "Victorious Dinogods", del que dejo un enlace a Youtube

Canciones para una vida - Victory - Sneaking Out

 

SNEAKING  OUT

Ya me he referido en varias ocasiones a este album en el blog, y es que me parece de justicia hacerlo pues es para mí una de esas bandas algo menospreciadas y concretamente este album, "Don't get mad get even" de 1986 es uno de sus máximos exponentes como grupo, un ejemplo como pocos de lo que se dio en llamar hard 'n heavy, tan presente en la década de los ochenta, y además este grupo en ese momento concreto era una reunión de grandisimos músicos, una especie de reunión en el que se daba salida a material creado que no cabía en otras percepciones compositivas y aquí encontro salida, nombres como Hermann Frank, Tommy Newton, Charlie Hunh deberían poner sobre aviso a cualquier metalhead versado en las figuras y los músicos. También, evidentemente en lo personal es una de esas obras que acompañó mis primeros pasos en esto del heavy metal y claro, eso siempre da ese plus que quizá de otra manera no tendría tanto. El caso es que sin duda es una obra recomandable, de inicio a fin, en una línea que te recordará muchas cosas, Accept, pero menos potentes, Scorpions pero más cañeros, o Bonfire pero más heavy, a medio caminos de muchas cosas para encontrar una senda propia, y de este gran disco dejo hoy otro de sus temas, "Sneaking Out" una suerte de medio tiempo que deja el poso de calidad de la banda, el disco y la época, todos elementos irrepetibles, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Alestorm - Seventh Rum Of A Seventh Rum

 

SEVENTH  RUM  OF  A  SEVENTH  RUM

Parece evidente que el nivel de crecimiento de esta banda les ha colocado, (y ya desde hace mucho tiempo) al frente de esa corriente bucanera que ha llegado ya a influir a otras muchas bandas con esa mezcla de muchas cosas, que bebe de fuentes clasicas y al mismo tiempo muestra esa personalidad tan propia tratando de quitarle "hierro" al serio mundo del heavy metal a través de ese jocoso planteamiento en el que todo gira alrededor de una fiesta eterna y alcohol a raudales, nada nuevo en si mismo, pero muy bien explotado por los escoceses, que en este séptimo LP de estudio dan un paso más en lo expuesto anteriormente. El caso es que esta obra desde su título hasta su ejecución conjunta muestra esa irreverente propuesta que deja siempre un poso en el oyente, y hoy dejo otro de los temas que lo componen para ilustrar mis palabras, en concreto hoy el tema que da nombre a la obra, "Seventh rum of a seventh rum" del que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Tungsten - Heart Of Rust

 

HEART  OF  RUST

El hecho de la escucha detallada y completa de la tercera obra de estudio de los suecos Tungsten, o lo que sería igual que decir la banda de la familia Johansson, deja clara la idea de que el espacio a la vertiente power melódica de la banda ha ganado de nuevo importancia respecto a los destellos industriales, algo en mi opinión que es una gran noticia, y se ve como el grupo va consolidandose poco a poco en la escena, con mayor reconocimiento, algo que parecía que les estaba costando demasiado, sobre todo mirando al debut, y también al segundo de sus LP's. El caso es que de nuevo estamos ante un LP con gancho, de esos que también despertarán las críticas por parte de los más puristas, en gran parte imagino que por el apoyo en las melodías de teclado, con ese aire "fácil", tienen una gran capacidad de crear melodías que se meten en la cabeza para permanecer ahí mucho mucho tiempo. Grave Digger ve como se va acercando la fecha de publicación oficial de su nuevo album, "Symbol of eternity", su vigésimo primer LP de estudio para agosto de este 2022 y va desvelando alguno más de los temas que formarán parte de la obra como el tema que dejo hoy en el blog, "King of the kings". Canciones para una vida - Lynx - Nightwalker

 

NIGHTWALKER

Los suecos Lynx, fueron una banda que tuvo su periodo de actividad entre los años 1984 y 1986 bajo ese nombre de Lynx, ya que anteriormente existian como "Pegasus" entre 1976 y 1984 en dos periodos diferente y breves entre ambas fechas. Hablamos una vez más de una banda desconocida en general, que tenía un abanico estilístico amplio, ya que en su único LP de estudio como "Lynx", "Caught in the trap" de 1985, podemos encontrarnos desde guiños NWOBHM, heavy metla de la vieja escuela, hard 'n heavy ochentero e incluso algunos ambientes melódicos sintetizados cuya fórmula encontramos en bandas de hard rock y aor de esa época. De essta manera queda patente la versatilidad que el grupo demostró en esta única obra, una vez más se antoja demasiado poco en función del potencial de esa banda que demostraron en "Caught in the trap". Un buen ejemplo es "Nightwalker" con ese aire de heavy de la vieja escuela, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
