FEAR  NO  EVIL

Con este "Fear no evil" completamos el repaso a la primera etapa de la banda británica "Grim Reaper", un grupo que comenzó a principios de los 80 dentro del movimiento de la NWOBHM, y que tras una década en actvo terminaría por separarse en principio para ya en este siglo tentar a la suerte con una segunda parte de su carrera en esta ocasión bajo el nombre de "Steve Gimmett's Grim Reaper", desde 2006 en adelante. Este disco "Fear No evil" es el central, el segundo de los tres que compusieron esa primera época, editado en 1985, uno de esos años mágicos dentro del sonido del heavy metal clásico, con ya muchas escenas diferentes dando a luz a bandas que llegando o no a ser famosas si que conicidian en todos los casos en ese concepto tan puro del sonido heavy metal sin adornos. Es por lo tanto, para los amantes del heavy metal en general echar un vistazo atrás y re descubrir bandas como Grim Reaper, más hoy en día con el repunte de este tipo de grupos en lo conceptual que se ha estado produciendo estos ultimos años. Canciones para una vida - Moonville - Strange Letters

STRANGE  LETTERS

Siempre sucede, y muchas veces parece casi imposible que así siga siendo, que uno descubre bandas como salidas de la nada, con un breve paso por la escena musical, grupos de un solo disco o de un par de ellos, pero que hacen que te plantees la eterna pregunta sin respuesta clara de por que no llegaron más lejos y tuvieron una discografía más extensa. Y en uno de esos casos estamos, ante este grupo sueco de power metal llamado "Moonville" que desarrolló su actividad a comienzos de siglo y que desapareció tras su único LP "Silver Screen" de 2005 tan misteriosamente como apenas aparecieron. Estamos ante una obra que puede sorprender a más de uno, un sonido al que se le pueden poner detalles de grandes nombres, con una escuela nórdica europea innegable. 10 temas componen el album, con una sensación completa, de un alto nivel general que deja un buen sabor de boca, como por ejemplo puede ilustrar la canción "Strange Letters" de la que dejo hoy un enlace a youtube.

INTO  THE  FIRE

Otra de las canciones que componen la nueva obra del guitarrista alemán Axel Rudi Pell, y una de las que más me han gustado del comjunto del disco es este "Into the fire", con muchos de los ingredientes atribuibles a la banda. Como siempre sucede, no por esperable el sonido de este grupo deja de ser algo bueno. En esta ocasión un poco en esa línea clasica del medio tiempo típico que no puede faltar en un disco con el sello "Axel Rudi Pell", una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

CHILDREN  OF  CAIN

Nueva canción que dejo en el blog de la tercera obra de estudio del proyecto colaborativo de las mentes tras dos bandas descomunales como son "Blind Guardian" y "Iced Earth". Es una de esas ocasiones en las que la voz de Hansi no eclipsa todo llevando a su terreno Blind guardianesco cada una de las cosas que toca, es decir, el equilibrio en este grupo "Demons and Wizards" es enorme y así, la capacidad compositiva de ambos músicos sale a relucir creando un auténtico híbrido pura sangre capaz de satisfacer a amantes de ambas bandas. Canciones para una vida - Kenziner - Tears Of Destiny

TEARS  OF  DESTINY

Tiempo hacía ya que la banda finlandesa "Kenziner" no nos dejaba material nuevo, algo que por otra parte ha resultado ser una constante en este proyecto propulsado por el empuje del músico poli instrumentista Jarno Keskinen, guitarrista, bajista y teclista. El grupo comenzó su andadura en 1994, teniendo un debut más que rerseñable, "Timescape" de 1998, que tuvo una pronta continuidad en su segundo intento "The Prophecies" al año siguiente para después desaparecer durante más de una década, (hasta 2012) en que retomaron su actividad, y editando un nuevo disco "The last horizon" en 2014. Después silencio hasta que este 2020 nos revela la cuarta entrega, "Phoenix", apropiado título si es que no es destello de una sola obra de nuevo, veremos. El único nexo común en todas las obras es el polifacético músico Jarno Keskinen, y por supuesto su enorme calidad como guitarrista y compositor que una vez más queda patente en el primer adelanto de la obra cuya salida oficial se espera para el 26 de junio. Canciones para una vida - Stormwarrior - Freeborn

FREEBORN

Con una "cabalgada guitarristica" comienza este tema, un tanto de la escuela "Running Wildesca", y por otro lado sello de la casa. Se trata de "Freeborn" otra de las canciones pertenecientes al sexto disco de estudio de los alemanes "Stormwarrior", banda que siempre se ha caracterizado por ese concepto contundente y veloz que ha sabido mantener desde sus primeros días, allá ya por el comienzo de siglo. Siempre ocurre lo mismo con este grupo, que a nivel internacional no termina de tener el reconocimiento que deberían pero que con cada obra nos dejan al menos un puñado de temas que van ganado puestos a medida que se les escucha. Este sexto disco de 2019 "Norsemen" no es una excepción, y este tema es prueba de ello, una canción de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Dynazty - Ascension

ASCENSION

De vuelta a los suecos "Dynazty" y su heavy hard power , según el momento de cada obra, siempre haciendo gala de la calidad como estandarte. Esta banda, si bien puede llegar a ser un tanto predecible en el sonido de los temas, por otra parte ha encontrado esa fórmula compositiva a partes iguales efectiva y enganchona, que te hace tararear sus temas pronto. Con algunos rasgos incluso progresivos estamos ante un grupo que ha ido alcanzando un cierto reconocimiento por méritos propios, y es que si miramos a su carrera nos damos cuenta de que van camino ya de los quince años tocando juntos, una carrera ya respetable adornada con siete discos de estudio. Hoy quiero recuperar de nuevo una de las canciones de su penúltimo disco "Firesign", de 2018, concretamente "Ascension", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

ALONG  CAME  THE  DEVIL

 "Metal Commando" será el decimo tercer disco de estudio de los alemanes "Primal Fear", y que saldrá a la venta de manera oficial el próximo 24 de julio del presente 2020. Poca sorpresa siempre con este grupo que lleva ya en activo 23 años, un paso más en su carrera perpetuando su sonido ya clásico en este nuevo episodio. En palabras del propio Matt Sinner "espera que la obra sea una de sus obras más contundentes" y recalca el gran papel de todos los músicos en la obra, haciendo notar que están en uno de esos momentos dulces como banda en los que todo el mundo tiene muy claro su papel dentro del grupo. Canciones para una vida - Gathering Of Kings - Starsleeper & Riders Of The Light

STARSLEEPER  &  RIDERS  OF  THE  LIGHT

Moviendonos un paso hacia el hard rock, vamos hoy con esta banda - proyecto sueca llamada "Gathering Of Kings". Aunque realmente es dificil encasillar el sonido de este grupo en un solo término, pues encontraremos destellos de heavy melódico, partes incluso con aire progresivo y ello cohesionado con un fondo electrónico a base de teclados creando esa atmósfera propia. Estamos sin duda ante un super proyecto cuyos primeros pasos se dieron desde el punto de vista de la edición musical el pasado 2019, y que cuenta con muchos y buenos músicos de primera línea de bandas importantes y de origen sueco, bandas de la talla de Eclipse, WET, In Flames, At Vance, Masterplan, Firewind, Therion, Treat, Pretty Maids, Within Temptation, y un largo etc, creando un sonido que podríamos acotar un poco como unos "Magnum" con un toque "Brother Firetribe" por ejemplo. Desde luego la variedad en las voces de un tema a otro en virtud de los muchos artistas colaboradores también ofrece ese punto de variedad tan atractivo. El disco que hoy traigo al blog, "Discovery" es el segundo de la banda, lo que parece confirmar la continuidad de lo que podría haberse considerado solo un proyecto puntual el pasado 2019 con su debut "First Mission", de la que hablaré un día en el blog. De este segundo esfuerzo hoy quiero dejar en el blog el tema que abre la obra más la intro, "Starsleeper & Riders of the light", de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Falconer - Desert Dreams

DESERT  DREAMS

Otra banda que se anima a sacar material de estudio en este 2020, los suecos Falconer, quienes además llevaban ya un largo silencio sin editar material nuevo y que han encontrado el momento de hacerlo en el presente año. El disco "From a dying ember" será ya el noveno del grupo y su salida oficial se espera para este próximo 26 de junio. Ya venía sucediendo en sus anteriores obras, un cierto giro en su sonido con una direscción más hacia el power sin el toque folk tan característico de sus inicios, con una aire más progresivo si se quiere. De todas maneras estamos ante músicos de primera línea y eso siempre se agradece y se nota, nombres relacionados con la banda "Mithotyn" por ejemplo, como ya he dicho alguna vez en el blog. Canciones para una vida - Nemedian Chronicles - The Thing In The Crypt

THE  THING  IN  THE  CRYPT

Primeros pasos en la carrera de esta banda francesa de reciente formación, (2017), quienes, hasta la fecha de esta reseña han editado tan solo este material de estudio en forma de EP, "Nemedian Chronicles", del presente 2020, y del que hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de sus canciones. Tanto la temática, la estructura compositiva como la parte de la producción me han recordado a esas bandas italianas o griegas practicantes de un heavy metal épico, un tanto crudillo pero al tiempo con ese tufillo "manowarero", un tanto "true". Eso debería alejar a algunos seguidores, seguramente a los más amantes del sonido técnico y limpio, pero acercar a otros, más centrados en ese sentimiento "epico" de peliculas de barbaros. El caso es que estamos ante alguno de los estereotipos del sonido metálico, procedentes en esta ocasión de una escena como la francesa, no demasiado acostumbrada a parir bandas de este estilo que incluso puede llegar a darnos un destello en lo vocal y en las partes acústicas a "Blind Guardian", salvando las distancias. Nueva confirmación hoy de lo ya dicho con anterioridad sobre esta banda sueca que tanta gracia me hace personalmente, un grupo que por el momento me ha entrado por el ojo derecho, veremos como va evolucionando su carrera, pero de momento ambos LP's publicados son absolutamente recomendables en su conjunto, y en esas estamos, dejando hoy otra de las canciones en el blog de su segundo LP, "Emblas Saga" de este 2020, una obra para disfrutar en su conjunto y de la que hoy dejo este "Powersnake", canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

LIONS  OF  THE  SEA

Tres de tres, los adelantos del nuevo disco de Grave Digger parecen prometer una obra que destacará entre los lanzamientos de este 2020, con ese guiño a los mejores momentos power de la historia de la banda, con la épica en los coros y en los acordes, en las letras históricas y en general en el ambiente que va envolviendo la obra que está por venir. Este tercer adelanto del "Fields Of Blood" que verá la luz de forma oficial el próximo 29 de mayo, se titula "Lions Of The Sea", tema muy en la onda épica de la banda, un tanto simple si se quiere pero igualmente efectivo, con muchos de los ingredientes típicos y esperables de Grave Digger, y de la que hoy dejo un enlace a youtube de su clip oficial.

TORTUGA

Dificil ya catalogar a una banda como "Alestorm", sobre todo teniendo en cuenta la progresiva dirección que va tomando la banda. Quiza sea motivo de la creación de la banda "Gloryhammer" por parte de Christopher Bowes (alma mater de Alestorm además de teclista y cantante) el hecho de dar salida a toda la vertiente más puramente Power, dejanto abierta de para en par la puerta a sonidos y estructuras más heterodoxas y gamberras, de fusiones casi imposibles que se dan hoy en día en Alestorm. Sea como sea ya está de nuevo aquí la banda escocesa corsaria con su ovtavo album de estudio "Curse of the crystal coconut" cuya salida oficial se espera para este 29 de mayo. Y de ella hoy dejo en el blog su segundo adelanto "Tortuga", buen ejemplo de lo anteriormente expuesto, un tema que he tenido que escuchar varias veces para decidir realmente en que lado de la balanza ponerlo, pero que finalmente, con su extraña capacidad de enganche he decidido traer al blog, canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Aether Realm - TMHC

TMHC

Recientemente salido a la venta este pasado 1 de mayo, el cuarto LP de los estadounidenses "Aether Realm" se titula "Redneck vikings from hell". Esta banda es una de esas a las que su sonido parece no acompañar exactamente con el origen y escuela a la que pertenecen, es decir, a pesar de su origen norteamericano su sonido parece más afin al norteeuropeo, en la parte inicial de su carrera con ese toque folk death melódico con un tufillo a Ensiferum, para progresivamente ir evolucionando hacia un sonido más death melódico técnico en plan Children Of Bodom si se quiere. No se puede negar tampoco el gusto por la experimentación haciendo guiños a sonidos más electrónicos, un tanto "Synthwave", pero siempre con ese buen gusto compositivo y de calidad como seña de identidad. Como digo, a medida que la carrera del grupo avanza, el ambiente Folk va desapareciendo y esta cuarta entrega es mucho más death técnico. Canciones para una vida - Ensiferum - Rum, Women, Victory

RUM,  WOMEN,  VICTORY

 Como siempre ocurre con bandas de este calibre, y, además, entrando en lo personal, Ensiferum es una de esas bandas que durante mucho tiempo ocupó el cenit absoluto de mi top de bandas, la simple salida de material nuevo suscita ilusión instantaneamente. En este caso, y teniendo en cuenta su último trabajo  "Two Paths" de 2017, casi en la misma medida que ilusión miedo, de ver que dirección decide tomar un grupo como este. He de decir, que ya desde la primera escucha de su primer adelanto, "Rum, women, victory" he notado esa sensación calida y conocida que me hace tener esperanza, pues el sonido es claramente Ensiferum, y mirando las canciones que componen la obra y viendo su duración se podría intuir que los experimentos se pueden haber dejado fuera, (dicho sea con todas las precauciones). Veremos. De momento he notado la incorporación nueva del cantante de voces limpias y teclista Pekka Montin, que le da un toque claramente más power a sus partes, curioso por inesperado, pero prometedor, nuevamente veremos. De momento dejo un enlace a youtube de este "Rum Women victory", perteneciente al que será octavo album de estudio del grupo, de título "Thalassic" y cuya salida oficial se espera para el próximo 10 de Julio.

Canciones para una vida - ATC - I'm Alive

I'M  ALIVE

 Recuperemos otra de las muchas bandas "monodisco" de esas que se dieron en la década de los ochenta y de esas que pasaron sin pena ni gloria por la escena internacional, una vez más sin tener nada que ver en ello la calidad y potencial. Rebuscando hoy en la escena sueca de la época encontramos a "ATC", un grupo en clave de heavy metal - Hard 'n heavy, con un sonido muy de la primera mitad de los 80. Se formaron en 1978, estando en activo hasta 1985, tiempo en el que editaron tan solo un LP, "Cut In Ice" de 1984. Destaca de estre sus miembros la figura del guitarrista Mats "Mappe" Bjorkman, quien tras su inicio en esta banda recalaría en "Candlemass" donde ha desarrollado la mayor parte de su carrera musical. Volviendo al sonido de "ATC", un heavy metal con un aire un tanto hardrockero como decía más arriba, un tanto sencillo pero que gustará a los amantes del sonido ochentero, como ilustra bien la canción "I'm Alive" de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Sonata Arctica - The Wolves Die Young

THE  WOLVES  DIE  YOUNG

Poco que decir de este grupo, para lo bueno y para lo malo, y poco que, a nivel personal, no haya dicho ya con anterioridad en el blog, tan solo repetir ese sentimiento de añoranza de tiempos pasados llenos de velocidad y contundencia dentro del power que hicieron suyo muy desde el inicio de su carrera. Siguiendo con esa idea, tiempo hace ya que su sonido se ralentizó demasiado, casi haciendo sentir a los fans de los comienzos de la banda una sensación casi de traición por la necesidad de seguir discfrutando más tiempo de ese concepto, e igualmente, siempre que se intuye que una canción en concreto va en esa línea, aunque sea minimamente se hace un esfuerzo más por ilusionarse con una posible vuelta a los "Ecliptica" y sucesores, algo que por desgracia nunca llega. Sea como fuere la calidad en la banda es innegable y suelen dejar pinceladas de su clase en cada obra, y de la "Pariah Child" de 2014 el single "The wolves die young" muestra esa clase, aún a un nivel más ralentizado, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Firewind - Welcome To The Empire

WELCOME  TO  THE  EMPIRE

 Esat es una de esas bandas en las que, echando la vista atrás te das cuenta de que ya llevan a sus espaldas una larga carrera que empezó hace un montón de años, (1998), y que sigue en la brecha en plena forma, continuando ese concepto que empezaron a medio camino entre el heavy y el power. Como he dicho ya en más ocasiones la figura fundamental de esta banda en el guitarrista griego Gus G., el único nexo común en todas la obras de la banda, (Nueve ya), y que recientemente ha cambiado de cantante, estrenando puesto para su noveno disco, "Firewind" a punto de salir en este 2020, (15 de mayo). Hoy quiero dejar en el blog el segundo single de esta obra, canción titulada "Welcomen to the empire", y de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Luca Turilli - To Magic Horizons & Black Dragon

TO  MAGIC  HORIZONS  &  BLACK  DRAGON

Retomemos el inicio de la carrera del guitarrista italiano Luca Turilli en solitario, alla por el final del pasado siglo, cuando el concepto esgrimido por el músico no distaba demasiado de lo hecho por su banda madre "Rhapsody". Debemos tener en cuenta que, a pesar de que la carrera de la banda citada, "Rhapsody" era aún más bien incipiente, Luca Turilli ya tenía la necesidad en ese año 1999 de mostrar su propia versión de la música, en ese momento clónica a la de Rhapsody, lo que auguraba lo que estaba por suceder años más tarde, y es que el ego de este artísta debe ser demasiado grande para que su nombre no figure por encima del de los demás, o al menos esa es la sensación que siempre he tenido. Eso quedará demostrado más adelante de este momento histórico de la banda, cuando empiece a hacer más consistente su prooyecto paralelo, y a medida que ocurre, ir perdiendose en un concepto tan personal que al menos yo soy incapaz de seguir. Luego las separaciones, conflictos, fichajes de ex compañeros, etc, vaya, el culebrón que todos conocemos. Pero centrándonos de nuevo en su inicio, esta obra resulta fundamental para los seguidores de aquellos primeros Rhapsody, y de ella hoy quiero dejar en el blog su intro y primer tema, "To magic horizons & black dragon", de las que dejo un enlace a youtube.

Canciones para una vida - Astralion - Mysterious & Victorious

MYSTERIOUS  &  VICTORIOUS

Astralion es una banda de Power metal finlandesa cuya carrera comenzó en 2011. Su sonido, dentro del power, es lo que uno esperaría que fuese teniendo en cuenta su origen, corte europeo y escuela nordica, buena producción, arreglos cuidados y una composición melódica, limpia y enganchona, coros incluidos. Han editado dos LP's de estudio, hasta la fecha de esta reseña, el primero de ellos "Astralion" de 2014 y el segundo "Outlaw" de 2016. No está formada por músicos de renombre ni procedentes de otras bandas, tratandose de un proyecto original. Como digo llevan desde 2016 sin editar nada de material de estudio pero sin embargo aparecen en activo, veremos que nos depara el futuro. Hoy quiero dejar en el blog una de las canciones de su debut "Astralion", en concreto la canción que abre la obra, toda una declaración de intenciones, una canción de la que dejo un enlace a youtube.
